Kernel question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello !
I have JW4 and today downloaded and installed Voodoo kernel but don't like it cause it does not support Voodoo sound or even Nstools. If I via Odin install Semaphore kernel would I need to install JW4 again or just go to PDA and install the kernel from there ? Thanking you !

No you just have to flash Semaphore via Odin without reinstall all rom (put file in PDA).

You need to flash the kernel only

Flash a speedmod kernel with odin instead, it will give cwm and the ability to flash custom roms like darky's

[Q] how to flash a kernel using cwm?

i have generally flashed galaxian and semaphore kernel using sgs kernel flasher but when i used the same method for talon it failed so now i want to flash it using cwm but how can i do it? should i directly install update that is the . zip file in cwm?
Down load kernel to sd card
Boot into recovery/flash zip, browse to zip, select, confirm, let it fully reboot, may take a while, job done

Are you sure the kernel is compatible with your rom?

if you are using cwm 2e/3e,you should first flash one custom kernel by odin, for example galaxian semaphone, then you can get cwm3.0.0.x
Try to flash using odin. or try sgs kernel flasher. Check my sig for the guide.

It work!
Thank you very much!
For others 'n00b' that want to install only a custom kernel...
Use Odin, flash kernel (a .tar file with inside "zImage") use PDA.
After reboot, wait a long.

Installing cwm running 2.3.6

Hi all, Bit of a noob regarding the note...Struggling to find an easy way to install clockwork mod on a gingerbread note...have already managed it on ics but lost wifi and decided to revert back to gb....tried searching on the forums and even tried dr ketan's method flashing the cf kernel and thought i'd bricked it(squeaky bum time!!!) but managed to get it back using pc odin(phew)
I am rooted on baseband xxla4 with kernel xxla6. your help would be greatly appreciated.
I'd recommend you flash throught mobile odin the k2 speedmod kernel. You can use the tar file for that. Its good kernel on gb, very battery efficient and has cwm in it.
You can also flash cf kernel, just unzip it first with mobile odin.
You can also use ktool to flash tar files
note: in cwm on speedmod I think internal and external sd could be switched. Other then that its awesome

Great stuff, used to have a desire, great phone for flashing. Since getting this note I'm walking on eggshells trying not to brick it. Again cheers

Find link on my signature for 'pre rooted' ROM
And flash that rom with odin, at end you will have gb rom + root +cwm
Later you can update any gb rom using cwm

Help me to flash kingdroid v.3.0

Im on ROOTED GB 2.3.6
Can i just flash straight to the fransco kernel included inside the kindroid v3.0 package
Or i have to flash the abyss first
This part is so confusing
There's no need for Abyss Kernel if you are still on Gingerbread. Abyss is very often used because it's an Gingerbread Kernel with a very easy detectable recovery in red.
You can use Mobile Odin PRO with Full Wipe to flash stock ICS (LRG) with CF Root Kernel. After that you can install Kingdroid.

So what u mean is that
I just can use the CWM recovery to flash the v3 kingdroid directly onto my N7000 right?
The safer way is the one I described above but you can try to install right away, but don't forget Fullwipe when you are still on Gingerbread.
