I tried using miui android 2.3.3 - it worked.
The only other rom that works is the AOKP milestone 5.
So far:
BCM doesn't get past the X on boot.
Runny rom does get past the X but gets stuck at boot animation.
MIUI 4.0 goes into bootloop.
CM 7.1 does boot, but also has it's problems: when the screen turns off, if i try to wake the nexus using either the power button or the trackball wake, it remains black.
*** I'm using blackrose and always partition the hboot correctly for the specific rom.
I tried to format sd card, clear data, clear ext partition, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, always do a clean install, but everytime, theses roms fail me.
Now, I'm mostly curious about the booting issues. What could I do to fix them?

ok now im having a bit of an issue i am on CM .9999 and teds hero theme, now i all of the suden get a black screen reboot 2 times nothing, wipe and reflash shows g1 screen then CM screen then goes black. ????i just wipe and reflash wat else can i do
I got the same issue like you when I flash without wipe the ext2. Solution is wipe your ext2 before you flash the ROM. It should be worked.
well i wipe 2 times reflash wipe 2 more times and its working this time, thankz anyways i am sure others are having same problem
Wipe EXT and wipe phone.
now i cant get passed G1 screen but i CAN still go into recovery and wipe and install updates but it dosent pass G1 screen
Every place i have searched says to get into recovery hold volume down + power. Why does it not work for me? I installed clockwork and i can get into the recovery via the app but when i power down all it does is reflash the stock rom and im back to square one. ive tried multiple searches but it seems like im the only one and its really bugging me. whats worse is that i tried installing cyanogen for the first time and i didnt know i had to clear data cache and now im stuck at the logo and everytime i try getting into recovery it just once again flashes back to stock which is unfortunately the cyanogen rom that wont let me boot. fantastic
You have a G2X, so you need that forum.
You have to NVFlash recovery if you want to boot straight into it.
Hello!
Can you still see the CWM?
Don't forget - don't press too long, release when the logo changes otherwise the phone will continue to boot and you might be stuck again.
Then as always... format /system, format /data (you find it in mounts and storage)
Wipe dalvik (found in advance)...
Install zip from SD-card (CM7), install gapps - then you should be good to go.
UPDATE: SOLVED
the thread directly above mine solved my problem. waddya know.

I went from aocp to slim ics. before I flashed, in cwm recovery i performed factory reset, formatted /system, /boot, and /data. the data part was an accident. its now not booting past the att screen. did formatting data end up being a very bad idea? ive flashed slim before with no problems. last time i flashed it i didnt format /data.
edit: i can get into download mode but not recovery and not past att screen on normal boot. all options from here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351224 ) have been tried. I cant attempt the steps involving starting from a battery charging state because instead of battery charging it hangs on the black screen with the spike wheel. i did try from there however with zero results.
UPDATE: I was able to get into download mode using this and only this ( http://teamkomin.com/Captivate/i897-Speedmod-K13E-GBbootloaders-One-Click.jar ). i had to do the whole process every time and after flashing bootloaders it would reboot into recovery. I proceeded to flash a couple roms ( cm7, mosaic IX, slim ics) and they all would present problems while installing. the latest from mosaic is saying unknown volume for path /data, /cache, cache/recovery/command, /cache/recovery/last_log,etc. flashing mosaic DID howerver change my cwm recovery from 2 to 3 and i can now get into cwm recovery 3.0.0.5 from a phone off state using 3 button combo. its just that now theres nothing on the phone to load it seems.
I have flashed CM 11.0 M7 on phone #1. It worked for a few days (except clock which always got the "sorry clock has crashed" popup) then I suspect it discharged and now it's a brick. If I put it on the charger then the Motorola dual core screen comes up, if i press vol dn + power, it goes black for a few seconds then this logo comes back. I can't find another interaction which does anything at all.
Good think I have a spare Droid 4.
Phone #2 I tried to flash with Slim, Paranoid, CM -- all of them got stuck in a bootloader loop. All. I did a factory reset, wiped caches, wiped /system everything between them, of course. CM 10.2 stable is working without a hitch. Previously this phone had Eclipse on it, I think JB 4.1 based.
safestrap version?
verifying md5 check sum for rom and gapps?
using kitkat gapps?
rom slot 1, 2, or stock?

My LeEco S3 X522 has not been able to get past the just a sec screen. At first it was after unlocking the phone it would just stay on the loading android screen but i was able to get into the settings by using the notification bar at that time i was using pixel experience but not the latest (one before the latest) so i updated and still would not work so i just formatted everything completely then re installed the latest pixel experience. Now i am stuck on the just a sec screen when starting up the phone. The phone goes dim then the screen goes off yet i am still able to use the hardware nav buttons ( they dont do anything but light up and vibrate). Screen will come back on after a few mins but it just repeats it self.
Also, prior to this happening my phone was dropped and the screen cracked. It took a week or two until i fixed the screen.

Try flashing 8 august nano gapps.
Do you have a nandroid backup of Pixel experience, if yes, then you can restore it and remove all sorts of screenlocks via twrp (Google how to) . Then flash latest gapps and os zip. Clear dalvik and cache. It should work.
It did not work. Still on just a second, even with the august 10th GAPPS. I formatted everything completely. No OS etc. Then i tried to install the stock ROM by using the chinese twrp (YDDS or something like that). It has worked before but now it did not even boot into the recovery screen unless its US twrp. I flashed RR OS (Oreo) and it would just boot loop. I can't seem to find any solution. I do not see why even after formatting all data, neither ROM will load. (Have noticed on twrp it says it could not find internal storage, yet it installs the ROMS and GAPPS. Not sure what that is about but could not find anytning online.)

Try the 6 July gapps here https://github.com/opengapps/arm64/releases/tag/20190706
I think it shouldn't give rise to your issue.
Remember to flash the nano version.
It's possible your data partition is corrupt.
First wipe system, cache , dalvik cache and data.
Then repair data, format to ext2 and them reformat to ext4. Then reboot to recovery and repair data again and finally wipe it. Reboot to recovery again. Flash stock ROM first. Then flash your preferred ROM.

Sadly it still didn't work. Possible the memory chip itself is damaged? Idk
