How did you update? Did you re cover apps throught a certain tool?
Bad thing about updates are the mess old stuff leaves, or create when recovering. Stock as well as custom. That's why clean install is best.
So sad its needed
Be carefull with factory reset because of ics bug, but that together with. Wiping cache or dalvik cache have been reported to work. Again be carefull cause of ICS bug, a wipe or factory reset can destroy your phone. Enought threads on that.

i updated from the indian rom yesterday to the official lq2 and find it much smoother and snappier i dont have permanent cwm i do have root if its that bad either reflash the rom to see if it was a bad flash or do a factory reset
thanks for the replies!
whats dalvik cache??
i think ill have to reinstall :-(
I updated to the German rom last month and had to do a factory reset afterwards to clear up a few issues.
There have been reports of phones bricking while factory resetting (though very very few reports tbh) but so long as you updated officially (ie your phone told you an update was ready, or you did it over kies air) then you should be safe enough, even if your phone does die you'll be fully covered by your warranty as factory resets are a perfectly normal function of the phone.

Try flashing the speedmod kernel using Odin pro. It will definitely improve your experience.

Make a complete wipe/factory reset and reflash the firmware.

Do you have any Lagfix enabled? Got start-up issues too after I enabled DATA_LOOP and BIND_DATA options. Just flash a Titanium Backup or disable this and make a factory reset after that.

i removed lagfix too on a previous time this all happened so i guess it hasnothing to do with that either
Make a clean phone format everything including internal sd and system .
Install Eclair and wait to see if problem solved .
Do not upgrade to 2.2.1
If the phone fails on Eclair then its hardware .

I had a similar problem when i was with 2.2.1 JPX (without any lagfixs) + root, sometimes when the I restared the phone everything started to crash, and I had to do a factory reset to fix those FC..
I've done a complete format (internal SD..) and flashed 2.2 with speedmod kernel (no lagfix) + root, and so far so good, i've made a lot of restarts, and no problem..
Hi guys,
My phone has been working great until today. for some reason now when I install a new app, if it is forced close or if I reboot the phone, I lose all the setting for the apps. It only happens to new apps, the one installed before today are (so far) keeping the settings.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help. I know some of you might suggest a factory reset, but unless somebody had this problem and reset helped with it, I will hold off on that because if it ends up not working I will be left with all my apps losing their settings all the time.
I am on I9000T on stock Froyo 2.2.1 if that can help.
Anyone? Please I really need help on this one. This has to have happened to somebody here?
Problem with the firmware.!!
I think that there must be a problem with the Firmware .. Try updating your phone via kies or Flashing Gingerbread using ODIN..

Before this, you could try and do a factory reset and see if the problem persists! If it does, then reflash with Odin! Good Luck!
Thanks for replying guys. I have a question: if it is a file system problem, will a firmware update or factory reset help?
Also, I have had this firmware for almost a year now, why would have I a problem with it now, I am not rooted and I have attempted (yet) anything with flashing.
If ur phone has a file-system error Reflashing or factory resetting ur phone will help 4 sure as the files will be cleaned up and installed again..u phone may have dis problem due to any virus... u need to root ur phone 1st then flash gb

I have also had this problem come up on my phone. The phone just crashed on a Sat night and on reboot the software looked like I had taken it out the box brand new. Lucky I had Titanium Backup and restored everything.
Only thing then is that the vast majority of apps don't remember settings and on a start of the app it's in 'first time' mode.
Did a ROM flash using ODIN and default ROM (search this forum for instructions and software if you need it) and this fixed it properly - 12 hours in and no issues.
Credits to Titanium Backup here - like insurance you only know if it's any good when you actually need it.
Hi
I am from India and I connected my phone to kies and its saying that new firmware version is available.
Before upgrading I have few questions in mind. Is ICS is working fine on Note. I Heard may people saying that its freezing and consuming more battery and Wi Fi not working.
Have anybody upgraded Note to ICS in India..Hows the reviews..Any problem with phone you guys are facing.
Thanks in Advance
Ankush
Well some people have problems, ICS aint exactly bug free. But you can avoid most problems if you do a factory reset before upgrading. Then you will have a clean system but you will also loose all apps etc.
I am using stock ICS in India.
In my opinion Its better than GB, Better battery life, Better performance.
I updated via OTA.
Before updating i recommend you to perform a full wipe/factory reset.
After Update I rooted my phone using Dr. Ketans Method. Uninstalled all the Samsung crap-ware. Flashed Hardcore speedmod Kernel. Wiped Two three times. Some Recharge discharge cycle.
Now my note is running Butter smooth & leg free.
Good luck! Enjoy your note.
Thanks for help

To reset your phone go to settings - backup & restore - reset.
Or
Switch off the phone, after 1 min press and hold vol up+home+power key until you see recovery screen. Choose factory reset/data wipe...
DO IT BEFORE UPDATING TO ICS....
Hello!
I got this phone with a ginerbread rom , i think ... but there was that messege that was annoying it asked me to update because the files are already downloaded i was like oh ok no problem and boom it got updated to 4.0.4 , and my bro's downloaded games through play store gave me some annoying ad's and they were popping like every min so i wiped my phone (Through settings) and the phone booted normally , even though i read alot about how the wiping is affecting the emmc chip and triggers a bug named the emmc brick bug , it also says that if u wiped through settings your phone is gonna brick and i didn't brick! Im currently thinking that if i flashed a firmware now , my phone's dead. and no , the phone is working fine with no lags i watched HD movies and played GTA VC and battery life is kinda good (stays 1day with some texting on wifi) ...
I got another question : Did samsung update the kernel only on 4.0.4 because my update was like 2-3 weeks ago
Sorry if this has been asked before :/ because i already searched the n7000 forums
Don't know... But you shouldn't wipe in ICS (4.0.4). Your phone might end up in a Hard Brick (Brick = dead). How to get more safer? Flash a PhilZ kernel. Google that.
I dont really get flash kernels , flashing them are safe ? like you dont face any common brick or error ?
Ill give it a go
Wiping isn't a problem if you are not rooted. At least that's what I read. And judging from what you wrote your phone wasn't. And regarding flashing new kernel, most of the kernel now a days have disabled the bug casting emmc brick. But always a good idea to read through the forum first.

It's totally wrong
Wiping and bricking has nothing to do with root.
Wiping cause brick if you have stock kernel, irrespective of your device is rooted or not.
Though every wiping doesn't end in brick. It may varies from 1 in 1 to 1in hundred. So once you escape from bricking while wiping doesn't mean it never, you never know on which wipe you will get brick, so just stay away from wiping if your kernel is not emmc erase cap disabled.

maybe your phone has a different chipset.. like qualcomm snapdragon..
exynos chipset are more prone in bricking together with stock ICS kernel IMO..
I have a question hopefully someone can answer this. ok i want to update my phone since the new Verizon ota came out there is just one problem it doesn't let me it just keeps failing. i tried to unroot that didn't make a difference at all. i don't want to wipe my phone if i have to. can some one help me out .
Since you're rooted if you deleted any apps you'll have to FXZ to get back to stock. All the bloatware apps need to be there for the update to work.
oh ok isn't there an file floating around that you can get rid of and bring back the bloat because clearly i need to use that file because i really dont want to have to totally wipe everything and i forgot FXZ whast's that?
Your best bet is to go HERE and get the latest HoB (House of Bionic). Use it to upgrade to JB. Just make sure all your pics, music, anything you want saved are on your SD card or saved too your pc. Going to JB you'll wipe the phone and that's best anyhow.
I realize Im probably in the minority, but JB made my phone total garbage. We so laggy and unresponsive it was nearly unusable, so I wouldnt recommend updating to JB. Finally after I had enough I rooted and went to liquidsmooth and its running very nicely now.

Voodoo did you try doing a FDR (factory data reset)? It has helped many people who had laggy phones after update.

I did everything everyone said to try, didnt help. Doesnt matter now, on liquidsmooth, way more customizable and runs super smooth. Or is is that liquidsmooth?
