[Q] usb storage missing after the updation of Icecream sandwich - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

usb storage missing after the updation of Icecream sandwich, but wen connect to usb in system it wil visible in computer? how can i find my usb storage folder in my phone?

Look in settings>storage to see if your usb storage is unmounted. If thats the case mount it.
This happened to me when I upgraded to ICS on my sgs2.

Hi , I've got the same problem. I updated to ICS this morning. Everything on the phone is stock. I too have noticed that the usbStorage folder is missing when I try to search for it using My files icon....but I can see it if I open up Polaris Office to search for the usbStorage folder (although it appears to be empty)
I then went into settings - storage and USB storage appears here as well but the only option it gives me is to "format USB storage" which I don't want to do. Could you explain how I "mount" the USB storage.
It appears the usbStorage folder is still there but just no way of accessing the files/data in it
I'm quite new to Android so any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Its further down in that settings pane. Under SD-card. Atleast on my roms

Ah ......I think we may have been talking about two different things. On my stock galaxy Note i have 3 separate storage areas.
1 The internal storage which holds approx 2 gb
2 USB Storage which holds approx 11 gb
3 micro Sd card which in my case holds aprox 8 gb
It is 2 internal USB storage folder that has dissappeared. I used to be able to use file explorer to drag items from my desk top into this folder but after the update everything in this folder has dissappeared. I have a back up form a month ago so haven't lost that much but still it's a pain .

Any solution?
I am facing same problem after upgrade to stock ICS. Been asking and searching around but nobody else seems to have this problem.
My external sdcard can be detected in PC and on stock GB but not on ICS. Now I can't root because recovery is also not seeing my sdcard.

Earlier I had the same question and I posted in one of the threads.

you may be looking in the wrong folder,
on my device, both with GB-LB1 on ICS-LPY,
- the internal storage is connected as /mnt/sdcard, inside it there are:
- external_sd for external SD-Card
- usbStorage for USB OTG (empty until USG flash drive is connected)

I can see the mount point external_Sd but it is empty.
I have files on the external sdcard which I can see on PC/GB.

I have the same problem since updating to ICS. Stock unrooted.

HELP
On my Diamond the Internal storage has gone a bit wrong, it all started when i pluged it in my pc to charge it up, after i took it out them later on i went to do sumthing on it and the internal storage folder has changed it name to "Internal Storage 2" but the original "internal storage" folder is still there and i am confused about it
please help
I suppose you connected your Diamond to the PC as an external harddrive and not via ActiveSync. By doing so, the internal storage is no longer visible to the OS as long as it´s conncted to the PC.
I would imagine that during that connection some program running on your Diamond (e.g. Messaging etc.) was trying to access the internal storage, couldn´t find it and created a new folder Internal Storage 2.
Just check what kind of files you have in your Internal Storage2 - might shed some light on the mystery.....

in the internal storage folder there is only theprogram files folder and in that there is RSS Hub folder, in the Internal storage2 folder there is My documents, you tube and a MP3 folder also the internal storage2 folder has the picture of a mem card on the icon like the orignal storage folder used to be like.
And there seems to be the culprit: RSS Hub was doing an update while connected to the PC in harddrive mode > wants to store the update data on "Internal Storage", doesn´t find it so recreates it. After disconnecting from your PC the original "Internal Storage" becomes visible again, but is renamed in "Internal Storage 2" to avoid dublicates......had this happen a few times on previous devices, where the SD card could temporarily not be recognized.
Try to delete "Internal Storage", then rename "Internal Storage 2" back to "Internal Storage" and you should be back in business with all you program links etc. working again!

I had the same thing happen with "Internal Storage2" showing up. It was caused, in my case, by the phone being connected to the computer in Disk Drive mode and then the phone received something that it wanted to automatically store in the Internal Storage area which was unavailable (in my case it was picture mail). Since there wasn't an Internal Storage area available it created one called "Internal Storage". When the Disk Drive mode phone was released and disconnected it couldn't use "Internal Storage" any more and thus it renamed it to "Internal Storage2"
I didn't think of going into Disk Drive mode again until after I had already tried a soft reset. I removed the Internal Storage folder that had been placed in main memory and then did a soft reset. The Internal Storage without the "2" has come back and is the 4gb storage area.
I can't remove the internal storage folder because it has the internet explorer files, and they are in use. I fix it renaming the internal storage folder to another one (in mi cause almacenamiento interno2 to almacenamiento internozzz because my diamond is in spanish) and after a soft reset the internal storage was again in his correct name.

Your external sd are mounted in the internal...
So it should be /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD
So just check in folder _ExternalSD on your sdcard

on the phone this is corect
but if i connect to pc , then i turn on usb storage @ phone
first the phone says " sd card safe to remove"
then notting happens , I turn on usb storage again and then I see only the internal @ the phone , tryed many thing , always I only see the internal , because the phone always seems to safly remote the sdcard first ....
puth the wired thing is wen i conect the phone on pc I can see two cardreaders
first one , the internal memory of the phone
second most be the sd card , but because the phone "safe remove" it first , I cant access it ....
really wierd
I have the same issue here, davjan.
I hope LG will fix this in a next firmware update.
(that they'll find a way to treat both SD-cards in the same manner).
It is the normal behavior to safely unmount the external SD. It does that to provide the computer with 2 different mass storage devices.
Do you happen to have a linux computer nearby?
You could view in dmesg how the SDcards are viewed.
Anyone found a solution to this problem? Why some people are able to see both cards and some others not?

I have the same problem as well. When I turn on the USB storage the pc is "seeing" only the internal sd card. The pc (under my computer) shows 2 different hard drives. When I turn on the USB storage only one of them "turns on" with 5.5GB. There is a file within the internal sd card called External sd card but not sure if this is the "way" to add stuff into the external sd card... anyone?
sd card
you must format sd card in your phone before use. settings-->sd card-->format external sd card. Its solved my problem too.

[Q] CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120127 Usb problem

Hi guys
Been using CM9 for a few weeks now...on the latest build (CM9-SGT7-TE4M-20120127) whenever i connect the tablet to the computer and press 'turn on USB storage' it goes into the loading icon and gets stuck there. Neither the internal storage or the external sd card show up on the pc, and the loading icon gets stuck in a loop.
on disconnecting the tab from the pc and going into settings i find that both internal storage and sd card become unmounted, and need to be remounted manually.
While the mounts were reversed on the last build i did not have this problem. I have tried a full data wipe, reflashed the stock gingerbread, updated to overcome then flashed the new cm9 rom and appropriate kernel.
I'm using a galaxy tab p1000. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
theres an app on your drawer called usb mass storage toggle, open it, choose the green android and the internal sd will pop up on the pc for u to use, blue andriod to eject, ext sd cannot cannot be detected, they are still working on it. wait for an update.

[Q] Confused About Storage - Can you help?

I may be a bit thick but am a little confused about how the storage is shown on the NOTE
If I look in setting storage it says .......
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
(where is this phone or card?)
Then.....
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
(I have nothing in the USB port as far as I know - just a 16G SD card in)
Then.....
System Storage 1.59 GB
(assume this is on the phone itself?)
Also when I link the phone to the computer it only shows .... a phone .... a SD Card and that is all?
While I am on this linking to the computer cant find an option to "Unmount" the phone either on the computer or the phone - feel a bit worried just pulling the plug out? memory sticks like you to unmount them or you may lose data????? Dont want to wipe the phone?
If anyone, more expert than me, can help explain some of there things I would be grateful
Hope there is someone out there that understands storage on the NOTE
Thanks
Pete

USB storage is the internal storage space AKA 16gb but 2gb for system storage and 1for OS so you have 11gb. your micro sd should be the 14gb davon 10gb are free. on connect with a PC you should see a N7000 under devices (C:/, D:/) in it should have Card(micro SD) and Phone(internal storage).
just unplug the cable. If something happens then blame Zeus and the Olymp God's. ;-)

Connection to a pc is manual on Note. Unplug usb cable. Menu -> settings -> wireless -> usb. Tap connect with pc (or whatever the only choice is) then plug in usb cable. Next touch connect @ green android and then ok (if it pops up). Disconnect by tapping disconnect under orange android.

So let me get this staight
USB is not Universal Serial Bus -- but internal memory?
Then from the USB comes the 2G for the system and 1G for android?
So where has the 16G Micro-SD memory card on this list (paid good money for that!!! ) - can see it if I link the phone to computer but not on this list?
Is that what it calls total storage or does it TOTAL everything?
Thought android was easier than Microsoft's rubbish operating systems ??

Yes USB is your internal flash storage that comes with the Note, 2GB from them assigned to apps only, some for system files and the rest is for you..
The SD card I believe is what is showing as 14GB under total storage, and total here refers to total external sd card only not every storage you have
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
This is the external microSD card you put in. If you use Myfiles you see this in external_SD folder.
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your internal sd card. If you use a program like ES explore you see it in sdcard folder.
System Storage 1.59 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your download apk is in this storage unless you move it to the internal SD using Manage Applications program come with the Notes. Not all program can be move to internal sd card.

SD phone memory is not shown when connected to PC via USB (as mass storage device)

Hi,
I'm having this issue where the SD phone memory is not shown on the computer when I connect my S1 to the computer.
When I check my phone's file manager, I see it has 3 folders:
1. SD card: 13.43GB -> this one is not shown, I want to see this as it has all my pics
2. EMMC: 1.81GB -> this one is seen on the computer
3. Internal storage
My computer shows the EMMC drive and an empty drive letter.
I have latest stable CM and I have a 16GB SGS 1.
Please advise...
Thx

Boot into recovery mode look for mounts and mount your sd card then plug your phone into the computer - it should come up then. If it does not mount then unmount the sd card (IMPORTANT) then mount the external card (remember to unmount the external card before unpluging from computer or rebooting your device. Hope this helps.

if you are in recovery try to mount the external sd card and see if your pictures are there they will be under a file called DCIM. Double click on DCIM and you should have your pictures. Remember to unmount before disconnecting from computer
Are you using fast charge?
