Hi Guys,
I have been enjoying a reduced size swipe keyboard ever since I got my Galaxy Note till I updated to Ice cream sandwich. Now with the update, the keyboard's width is being stretched to the maximum on both left and right sides. I really need it to be on a reduced size as its easier to swipe with one hand. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

And how did you 'reduce' your keyboard size?

I really don't know as Im new to Android. I meddled with it and somehow got a reduced size, the keypad was positioned in the centre, almost 2cm spacing from the left and right of the screen.

How did you "meddle" exactly? Did you edit a specific file or setting? I'm sure you changed the resolution somewhere.
I'd also like to reduce the swype width. I downloaded the file "swype qhd by keaton" (google it) and it takes a centimeter off each side of swype on my galaxy nexus. It throws a resolution error in landscape mode though, and doesn't stretch.

I did not change any file or sort of that. I was stock. Might be some setting. And yes it does look like way u have with the blue glowy things at the background. Though mine was 2 cm from left and right as well as a proportionately reduced height.

Ok, I see. I'll post if I can find a solution, but I'm not very skilled at this. This needs to be an option for swyping on bigger phones.
hi guys ...
i have troubles with swype ... hated the version that came with ics (the suggestion bar on top of the keyboard was useful but quite annoying) ... i've installed the beta version, but its size was ridiculously small
i've found in beta apk some files "display#_SwypeScreen.ini" ...
and i've found that if you put them in system/data/data/com.swype.../swypedata
it will resize the keyboard nicely ... but only to a reboot when you have to do this again
any idea how to fix this?
Edit: this is a fix to the reboot issue ... quite a move
"option one - rotate the screen into landscape/portrait and then revert back - its sort of working. "

It will only go crop to a max size of about 1/3 of the picture making the end result blurry. How can I turn this off or be able to select the wallpaper without cropping it? Sorry if this gets asked often but, i've been searching for a while now with no solution.... Thanks in advace!

Size them appropriately and use a png format before putting them on the phone.
All of them are in WVGA res. Most are also png.

Your home screen is WVGA resolution "per screenful". Given that you have 5 screens side by side, it actually needs a wallpaper that is wider than a single screen. Google it and you will find a lot of wallpapers for the N1 that are 960x800 so it looks like you need a wallpaper that is sized to be twice as wide as the portrait WVGA size...
I think I had a similar issue, and I couldn't find any mention of it.
It might be you are having the same problem.
That box you see when selecting a wallpaper is resizable. I had no idea at first, I only moved it around. It should be documented somewhere, but it isn't.
Press and drag near one of the borders of the box. Then you can expand it to the whole image.
If you already know of this, then just ignore me. But I was shocked to find out

Yes this is my issue, but.... the picture cropper will only go the entire width of the photo but not the entire height. Hence, 1/3 of the picture.I do understand it's resizeable.

That's to maintain the proper aspect ratio (800 high by 960 wide, I believe) to allow the background to scroll.
You might be able to find a third-party gallery app that would allow you to set a "portrait" sized wallpaper, but I don't believe that is a feature of the current Gallery.
Alright, well I do have some pictures that are 1200x1600 somewhere on my SD card. Just no where near as much as my other grahics. I have roughly 2,400 pictures total and about 2,350 of them are in WVGA res.... So this is a MAJOR inconvience.

Ok, I see. Then like mentioned before, your images are not the correct size. Since the Android scrolls the wallapper as you slide from screen to screen it needs to be much wider.
The Nexus is 480x800. But the wallpaper needs to be 960x800.
Yes, but you see.... I'm using LauncherPro, and it gives me the option to stop the wallpapers from moving sideways when scrolling screens. Therefore, I only need them in WVGA resolution. It's not like the picture is going to be strectched because it will always stay in place. If only this option was able to be turned off.....
Hi, I'm running into the issue that the screen is being rendered larger than the physical size of the screen so status boxes sometimes partially off screen and app icons get half hidden in the corners.
I plaid around with build.prop, but it didn't really help any. Is there a way to modify the home screen without changing the resolution? Also, if anyone knows of a way to change icon sizes short of installing a different launcher, that would be a huge plus.
TIA!
I've read that there are limitations in place for the preview image that kind of create this problem. If I understand the problem correctly it may be a case of changing pixel density but the preview image doesn't let you go beyond a certain density so even then the problem still exists. It's probably just something we have to deal with until Honeycomb becomes publically available for development.
This makes sense. The only reason I care about this is that when I use Aldiko, I can't see the top line of text because it pushes the words above the actual screen.
Does anyone have a recommendation for an E-Reader that they use successfully on HC???

You changed the LCD density in build.prop and the screen didn't change???
What is your lcd _density set at?
Sent from my NookColor using XDA App
I haven't really looked into this but I do know there are ports of honeycomb for various phones such a the evo, maybe try pulling the build.prop from one of those and see howe they altered screen density.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i've tried changing the number but havent had much success through the buid.prop. Any ideas on a good number and which number to change? Looks like there are 3 density numbers
For Honeycomb, I found that 120 is the best lcd density, it shows all the options when you expand the settings from the clock, it also displays the correct number of running apps in the quick change button (or whatever you call it) Also, Lcddensity is a good app for trying out diffrent settings. For Aldiko, I recommend increasing the margin size to see the top line of text, not a perfect solution, but it works.
Now that everyone has had time to find their favorite LCD Density, what do you guys have yours set at?
For me its 190
180 for me.
200 for me
ilsolito, when i have mine at 200 I feel like the notification bar is actually more blurry than at 190. I dont know if this is just something im making up in my mind as I dont have 2 tabs to compare side by side. Anyone else notice this?

No, you're right, it is quite blurry... But I like it that way!
200 for me. For some reason anything less causes my native camera app to force close >.<
180 for mine is perfect never really expirimented with any other.

180 here, and I just use Camera Advance for taking piccies, original camera doesn't FC at 180 for me, but the UI is all out of line and doesn't work right.
I actually prefer 160, but the notification bar goes a bit funky at 160.
I use 171. Lowest possible without the notification bar going weird.
Won't the preview at the bottom right not scale when using the camera? The dialer won't scale too right?

How to set LCD Density? I went in settings/display and found Black color density/white color density and i did not saw any numbers like yours e.g. 180, 200 etc...
Edit: never mind guys got the app.
Default, don't know how you can stand the blurry notification bar at anything less tbh. And launcher pro lets you add extra columns and types to fit more things on if needed..

Camera works down to 182

i no longer use it because once i set it at 200 and reboot i no longer can make phone calls and tab does not respond so then i have to force the phone to shut off and restart at the regular density
185. I wish the dialer and contacts didn't go wake tho

I notice no blur in my notification bar. Of course, that could be due to the huge mess of cracks sitting in the upper corner of my screen. Or lower if I were to use it in portrait mode..
Hi,
i got a couple of app's "games" that are abit dodgy. one the whole right panel is "off" and the other the bottom and top are "off"
firstly deal or no deal game.
on the left side you see the "prizes" but on the right of the screen it is too small to show you the rest of the games "prizes"
you get a list of $0.1 to $750 and on the otherside your ment to be able to see $1000 upto 1mil. but screen too small
and the other's sheep launcher plus
on the bottom you cant select characters and on the top you cant "tap" the sheep also the calibrations abit off as you have to touch around 1.5cm under the actual launch icon to launch it .
All of this boil's down to one question really.
Is there a way of resizing "app's" for the X8
Thanks
Yes... in a kind of way but it is not work will all roms. It resize all your phone's screen.
It is called designity changer... our default is set to 160.
You can change it to 140 or 120
At 100 most launcher crash and all apps crash.
You will have problem typing on 120 as buttons are too small.
Best rom from my opinion for this is mini cm.
Some apps will not be resize and you may have layout problems, only on the look.
P.S root need, app is paid, can be found on market.
Just edit build.prop
ro.sf.lcd_density=160 <-- our default
you can change to
ro.sf.lcd_density=140 or ro.sf.lcd_density=120
Note: some rom have two build.prop
one in System/build.prop
two in System/Bin/build.prop
Warning:this will resize all app
Hey everyone,
due to the high resolution and comparably large screen estate I would like to use a lower screen density of around 410dpi, instead of the stock 480. :fingers-crossed:
One example:
On my Galaxy Nexus I was used to having a 24dpi high navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.
It was small but still I was able to hit the buttons accurately.
Same goes for the small keys of my keyboard of choice, Swiftkey.
Since I am on the HTC One and I flashed a Custom ROM, which I am running on 410dpi and wanted that stock android navigation bar at the bottom even at 48dpi (which is like 1.7x the height of the one I was using on my Galaxy Nexus) I have trouble hitting the buttons.
This is very disappointing.
It feels like the Touch layer of the HTC One is not that accurate
Is it just me or is this a known problem?
(Couldn't find anything via search, though)
Any ideas what to do about it?
All the best and thanks in advance :good:
I don't see this at 360dpi which is what I have mine at, but I do see it at 240, but everything then is silly in size.
Have you enabled the show touches in dev options and checked where its actually pressing?
Always keep forgetting about that! Thanks!
That is pretty weird...the touch inputs seem to be quite accurate, though. (Debugging Tool)
But it doesn't recognize them in something like "the upper half of the navigation bar" :/
I quickly shot a Video (sorry not the best focus point )
One can clearly see that I am hitting the home button several times, but the input doesn't get recognized.
That is really really weird and unsatisfactory :/
I gave it a shot for you... It seems to work fine on 36dp and above. 30 and 24 exhibit the same behavior as your video.
FYI: I'm running SlimROM at 361dpi. That was the default for me when I went from ARHD 10.2 to Slim b6 and it has stuck with me since then. I tried to get the same look in RootBox but it didn't work the same, so I went back to SlimROM b6.8, and am now on SlimROM b7.
Thanks :good:
I am starting to believe that this is might be caused by the Logo-Button-Hack.
If you peek closely from the side under the tip of your finger touching the button and starting from the very bottom of the glass area there is just no response at all on the logo. It's like the first pixel of the screen are allocated to the logo-button and not the area below the screen.
Maybe an area of lets say 10-15 pixels height is used for that and therefore not any longer available for the nav bar.
Which doesn't really matter if you are hitting the comparably huge app-icons in the drawer otherwise
