I'm sure we're all well aware of the problem of missing apps that are installed on the "media area" which is the internal SD card. The problem is most likely that it doesn't mount in time on boot up.
My question is, is there any way to tell Market to install apps to internal phone storage? Right now, every time I install an app from the market, I have to go into the app management and Move to Phone on every single app. Very annoying.
I'm pretty sure that any custom rom supports this. I'm running eclipse and have the option to just install to internal memory. I highly recommend eclipse I've tried all the roms and this seems to be the best so far.

Including stock I have all 5 ROM slots full in SS.
Rom Slot Stock is OTA ICS 2.4.6 rooted of course
Rom Slot 1 = Eclipse 1.2.1 (pretty much the leader in the clubhouse at this point for me)
Rom Slot 2 = SkyL1n3 1.2 (not bad at all, Many nice features ICS 4.0.4)
Rom Slot 3 = Evolved 2.1 (Check it out RAZR boot up screen JB 4.1.2)
Rom Slot 4 = Synergy 1.0 (ICS 2.4.7 Potential for a daily use ROM here. Stock Camera working, etc.)
The biggest thing I need in a ROM is WIFI tethering & stable access to 4G. Camera is a "nice to have" but not 100% necessary. A couple of these ROMS are OC'd to 1.3 GHz. no issues with battery consumption or heat.
As you can tell, I'm loving the ability to flash & test. Thanks to all the developers who keep us testers jones'ing for more crack (ROMS)
1.5 years later & the Bionic is still one of the baddest phones on the planet.
Anyone else running all 5 Rom Slots full on their Bionic?
I am barely running one ROM. I hate that we are limited to just internal memory with ss.
If you are limited to internal memory you are doing something wrong. You should be able to move everything to your external HD.
I am running 3 roms plus stock
1. Icarus HD my DD
2. Evolved CNA
3. Redtide Redemption
Sent from my Icarus Bionic
1. Stock .246
2. Eclipse ICS 1.2.1
3. Wizzed Bean CN2 (added since I posted this originally)

What size slots are you using? All I'm able to run is the stock slot and one custom (3gb slot) ROM which is eclipse. So fill me in! Lol

I use 2 1gb and 1 2gb slots, the blur based roms complain if they don't have at least 1gb of free space. The Jb roms don't care because the push everything to the external SD.
So I would do the following steps
1. Back up data
2. Delete 3gb partition
3. Create 2gb partition restore eclispe data to this partition
4. Create 2 more 1gb partion install custom roms of choice. The CM10 builds and CNA builds are best. Be aware bluetooth and stock camera issues are common in all JB roms.

I thought SS's default location to store ROM's was on the internal memory & you could not move the ROM slots to the SD-card since SS wouldn't read/load them properly. Was my way-less-technical-guessing incorrect and it's cool to move the SS ROMs over to the SD-ext location?

I've been using 1GB slots and can't get any more than 3 (unsafe/stock & 2 ROM slots - Whizzed & Eclipse) due to insufficient memory.

The default location is the internal memory. But all of your pics, apps games , back ups etc. Can be moved to your external SD also any data files from above mentioned things can be moved too. Also delete the file "lost.dir" it doesn't serve a useful purpose but will take valuable space and the android OS will create an empty version on your next boot.
You can move the SS roms, I wouldn't.

Move all the apps you can to ext SD, move any back ups and data to ext SD and delete "lost dir" folder and you should be good. I have 200+ apps on my phone and use a 2gb partition.

I'll look into doing this tonight prolly thanks for the info.
I backed everything up from internal memory then wiped the Bionic and installed 905 via RSD Lite, took the OTA 2.4.6 ICS, then rooted, Installed SS 3.05 & TitBU, then setup the ROM slots. I'm only using 1GB on each slot as I haven't found a need for a larger partition for any ROM (not yet anyway).
I just wiped a couple slots to try some more ROMS.
If you like blur, (I know some don't) I'm trying Blurry 1.4. stock camera & tether work. Haven't tested bluetooth. Excellent features that I use everyday right at your fingertips plus it's smooth & fast. Bionic is OC'd to 1.25 GHz.
I also installed a 32GB Ext SD Card ($17 from amazon). I have everything backed up, SS backups & TitBU backups, Numerous ROM's ready to install, Pictures, Videos, etc. Currently have about 14 GB available still
With all 5 ROM slots used, I do receive the "Low Storage Warning" & have about 250-300MB of space left on internal.
I don't see myself getting another phone for at least a year. We'll see what comes out.

EXCELLENT suggestion folks, thanks! :good:
That just 'opened up' one of the other two ROM slots I couldn't create/access due to insufficient memory!
is this through Safestrap [TWRP] that you are installing all of these ROMs side by side? I just got back on the ROM train, been off it since like June or July, and I just installed SafeStrap to see the new TWRP interface instead of the old one that I was used to.
Yes!

Correct. You have your stock ROM slot, (Where SS is installed) then the ability to test up to 4 other ROMs at the same time provided each slot is formatted with 1GB (2GB total for each slot).
I wish we could upgrade the internal memory from 8GB to 16GB. Would make things so much easier.
Amen!

Just have Icarus and Stock -- wish we could use the full internal SD!!
1. Stock OTA ICS 2.4.6
2. IcarusHD 1.5
3. Eclipse ICS 1.2
Stock-rooted .246 (haven't switched back to it since it was confirmed OTA)

I just can't get over how you guys are able to run all these ROMs. I wish I could. I think my problem is all my apps
3 plus the stock
Hello,
I've been patiently following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804665 for the past several months. Thanks to the selfless, hard work of Hashcode, dhacker, and also sylentprofet and jarveson (and apologies to anyone I haven't credited), the recent builds seem to have arrived at a level of functionality and stability that I'm thinking of trying to install my first custom ROM (I've already had SafeStrap 3.0.x installed for months).
My question is the following: I understand from the above thread and from Hashcode's blog that now the external SD card will be used as the default storage location. I was wondering what happens when an app is "installed to SD". From my previous experience on an original Motorola Droid, I know that "installing to SD" would move some files to a special directory on the SD card. I was wondering if this would cause collisions if the same app was installed under multiple ROM slots using SafeStrap.
Thank you for entertaining this newbie's question.
Actually the way I understand it is there is still the internal storage and external SD which are the same, but the internal storage gets partitioned separate from the rest of the storage so if you install an app to the SD card, I think it just goes in a regular folder. The system thinks the /system partition is in the regular storage for it but it actually is tricked to the internal storage.
I hope that makes sense.

Thank you very much for your response.
Is this regular folder on the external SD card? If so, does it mean that this regular folder will be shared by the ROMs in multiple slots if I have the same app installed under the ROM in multiple slots?
Thank you again.

If it's on the external SD then yes it is.
I had the same doubt when I recently started using ROMs on my Droid3. This thread helped me a lot.
I have lots of apps in my stock ROM that I've installed before rooting it. Do I have to install it all again on external SD? If yes, do I have to use a new flashed ROM or the stock ROM?

On minimoto I noticed it was using the exact same sd configuration as stock, perhaps because its stock based. On CM10 the external SD card is the default /sd card but you can still access the internal sd.
Regardless of how the sd card is configured you'd still have to reinstall apps when going to another ROM. I recommend using Titanium Backup then its quite simple to restore apps on another ROM. For SD data you could just manually copy and paste the folders from the internal to external SD.

Thanks! So, a separate partition on SD Card would be a waste of "space", since the ROM's doesn't share acess to this partition. I've only tried with CM10, I'm going to try with MavROM and Minimoto, but i'm almost sure that I'll end backing all up with Titanium.

Sort of kind of. Basically this would be useful if you want to share apps and their settings between the custom and Stock ROMs installed on your phone [may be odd on an app by app basis depending on a few things but a good number *should* work [I dont use external SD as it eats the battery and is MUCH slower than using the /data partition so haven't tested this], so following should be close if not 100% correct
You would in stock ROM set your apps2SD app up [I DO NOT advise you to use the sdcard function found in manage apps>app area instead you should be using an app like Link2SD that actually creates a partition on your external SD and formats it to EXT3 or EXT4 [suggest using EXT4]. This way things like widgets still work whereas they don't when using the built-in android function [this happens as android uses a folder on the SDCard [which is FAT32 by default] and file permissions needed to run Widgets and some code can't be copied as needed on to a FAT32 partition so by using an app that partitions [or the recovery can do this but you would still need an app to manage which apps are in this partion] the SDCard app instead actually formats part of the card to the EXT 3 or 4 File system so it is the same as the /data partion so Android can copy EVERYTHING and nothing is affected and broken.
So you open your SDCard app manager in Stock ROM and format the External SD [THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING RUN APPROPRIATE BACKUPS BEFORE PARTIONING [move them to a computer and back if you dont have enough internal storage to absorb your data]]
When that completes open the app again [usually needs a restart first to mount the new partition before continuing].
Once you get that done open the Manager app and select the apps to move to this new partition.
CUSTOM ROM: Now once that is done boot in to safestrap and either setup a Custom ROM or change to it's boot slot. Next boot in to Custom ROM and install the same SD Card App Manager you used in Stock.
Next, once you open it it should say it found a partition and ask if you want to use it if it doesn't and just lists the app view the settings in the Manager app and HAVE IT SETUP AN EXISTING PARTITION. DONT PARTITION YOUR SDCard AGAIN [or all your newly moved data will bite it].
Now restart and allow it to boot back in to the Custom ROM again. Once this happens all the apps you moved to the SDCard partition should magically appear and be usable.
SO LONG AS YOUR STOCK AND CUSTOM ROMs ARE THE SAME VERSIONS DONT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE ICS ON THE SAFE SIDE AND JELLYBEAN AS A CUSTOM ROM IT WILL MOST LIKELY CAUSE ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS
I've been installing the CM11 nightlies and really like them. I haven't had any serious issues with them and I am excited about a stable version coming out. While having both a stock ROM and CM11 installed I have not figured out how to get the apps installed for both ROMs. They seem to tell me that it is already installed, or they will try to open but close immediately. I was wondering if there was some way to have them installed and working for both ROMs, or if I will need to replace my stock ROM with CM11, and how exactly would I go about doing that?
My guess I that the apps you are have trouble with are installed on SD card? Internal or external SD card
Try moving them the phone (user data)

I would agree with sd_shadow, I bet the apps in question are stored on the SD Card and so it's causing issues between the ROMs. Move the apps to the phone and you should be able to then install them on both ROMs. You should be able to do this from the Applications menu in Settings.
If you're on the latest version of the stock ROM and have trouble accessing your external SD card, try this mod based on information provided by @daorderdillon in one of the other threads around here... It just gives all apps with permissions WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and ACCESS_ALL_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (which has been changed to actually mean internal storage) full access to the external storage as well.
Only tested on stock 4.4.2 ROM, installed using TWRP.
http://amerhippus.x64.me/~johnny64/901S/extsd_permissions_fix-4.4.2.zip
Confirmed working on stock rooted rom 901s
Thanks
Just a quick note that this mod applies to the 4.10.708.1 version of stock as well.
