Everything you will need is in the the t-mobile G2X thread. Check the development section.
First you will need the proper CWM recovery for your P999 and you will also find the stock wind kdz as well, in case if you wanna stick with stock firmware/ROM.

No problem!
Start over from scratch, make sure you have the proper CWM for the G2X, then full wipe (factory reset, caches, format emmc, SD card), finally proceed with ROMs.

Once again, don't format your sd card or emmc.
Emmc is your internal sd card.
Stop telling people to do this without telling them what the emmc is.

Look, I'm trying help a fellow wind mobile user. You are right I should have warned him about formatting, however in my understanding that was the least of his (her) problem.
I know you have extended knowledge based on your posts/projects, so would you mind being constructive and chime in with alternative solution to the issue?

Has anyone ever flashed another rom directly over serendipity 6.4?

Looking for data about flashing rom over other roms and their status of being stable. Feel free to tell whatever. Thank you.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes. Try the serendipity q&a thread.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
Thanks but I was hoping I could get serial flasher who flashes over this rom only to help me with this experiment. This experiment is only for froyo and not gingerbread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I did, I flashed over serendipity and went to continuum. Serendipity works with ginger bread boot loaders.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Are you serious? Ginger bread bootloader? That is a first I heard. how you do it without getting bricked
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Sigh...don't worry about gingerbread bootloaders unless you going to gingerbread. He was just saying the new bootloaders are backward compatible, why he brought that up idk.
Otherwise in cwm wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache, go into advanced wipe dalvik. Flash whatever froyo rom you want.
Thanks! Very much appreciated.
but I'm still looking for flasher who actually done it to list what type of rom they flash over serendipity and if it work properly.
I know some people who flashes and got good results and some with poor result.

I gave you that suggestion because that's what I do I have been to stock like 6 times. Total. Flashed every rom over every rom.
If you have any problems after you flash over it, just flash back to stock like you normally do.

I don't really know what you are expecting to hear. A rom will wipe system/data/cache/dalvik so technically it IS a fresh rom. Flashing over an old rom doesn't affect ANYTHING in regards to the actual rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z
That is what I'm researching because others claim flashing over roms causes the new rom to not work properly while others have no problems at all. Then there are others who flashes back and forth to the same rom before and notice it doesn't work like it's suppose to when they had it the first time around.
Let me ask you...could it be titanium backup or bad flash. Could never really understand what a bad flash is technically.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
lets put this into perspective, and think of it like your home computer.
on your phone, you have a few partitions. lets think of these combined, representing your C drive
/system /data /cache /datadata (these are the main ones to focus on)
when you format to load a new OS, there is NOTHING remaining of the OLD OS that could possibly cause conflicts. because essentially the drive is clean after the format and you load the new OS, and never see any traces of the old OS on the drive.
if you look at the update-script located in every single CWM flashable zip file, you will see a few things.
Code:
format SYSTEM:
format CACHE:
format DATA:
format DATADATA:
then after that you should see:
Code:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
copy_dir PACKAGE:updates TMP:/updates
this creates the new partitions, essentially for the system and data
as you can see, the rom flash will wipe the OLD system and data off and put a new one on. what is left from the old rom???
That about covers it lol
Thank you very much! So if some thing goes wrong then it's pretty much the file which results in a bad flash.

the only reason to go back to stock with ODIN prior to flashing is if you wanted to repartition and reset the file system. i did it many times while working on the Andromeda builds, because I wanted to make sure that coming from stock people would get the appropriate filesystem configuration and setup
Is there any problems you would encounter if you didn't have your partitions and file systems reset?

very unlikely with the 2.2/2.2.1 roms. the kernel devs are pretty much all on the same page with using similar lagfixes that offer compatibility across the board. think of using ODIN and going back to stock as a last resort. 'when all else fails' type of thing
You said very unlikely. Its that part that I'm more interested in. The part that causes us to odin back to stock. When all else fail
Is there something that we do or is it the results from flashing too much that causes our partitions and file systems to go out.
Doesn't flashing reset our files systems and partitions?
Just letting you know that I am very grateful for your time and input. Your elaboration and explanation. You are helping way more than you know.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
It's not caused by flashing too much, as far as your phone is concerned each fish is its first because it wipes first thing.
sometimes something just doesn't write correctly in cwm, for any number of reasons. thats whats known as a "bad flash." but that can be solved by a reflash. you would need odin if say the battery were to die during a flash and all you get is the "phone....!.....pc" screen

Can't wipe my SGS

Hi Folks,
I am not new to this forum and i successfully flashed and tested out several custom ROMs. And yes, I know, I am still a Noob
But I have a weird problem now...
It doesn't matter which ROM I flash, my device won't get wiped. Well yes, I messed up my Nandroid backups, but:
I tried several kernels, ROMs and bootloaders. Even with the ones from samfirmware.com.
I tried it via Recovery and via the Android settings. And I've got all these old folders and files which don't get deleted when you uninstall an app. I'd really like to have a clean phone.
I know, it's a luxury problem, but it is very annoying.
So, could anyone please point me to some direction?
Thanks in Advance!
Cheers, berkley

Exact!!!
Well wipe does not wipe everything. I think to do what you are asking you need to format the internal SD card right after or maybe before a flash. That won't do the system stuff (I believe) but just the user area. The apks should recreate what they need afterwards.
But I haven't done it for a long time so don't trust me 100%. But that should do it and if you are flashing after it should clean it all up even if something useful got lost.

Use sd card maid to find legacy folders and for general clean up, amazing app

All data will be wiped if you flash with Odin with PIT-file and 'Re-partition' ticked.
Sent from hell to take your soul
could also try using the format internal SD card from the phones menu.
Does that mean that even a full reset doesn't wipe everything?
Full reset as done via punching in *2767*3855# on the dialer.
Hi Guys,
thanks for your nice words and help. I really don't know what was wrong. And I really don't know, what has fixed it!!! But now everything is working again. Thanks a ton!!!

So that's a workaround that will repartition your chip, means you will lose some space on internal SD.
Can you let us know how much space you lost? Its usually around 3 to 4gb, but have seen as high as 5.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
It is possible to try and regain some of that lost space, but its very time consuming, There is also a way you can swap the memory around, So your external SD will become internal and vice versa, Pretty neat if you have a 16gb+ external sd.
Although with the brickbug bug, Id much rather keep all my precious stuff on my external sd just incase.
See this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28057775
i lost about 3-4gb...not a deal breaker since it has external sd...im happy...she is running...again..

Avoid using poor quality SD and avoid using exFAT and stuff over 32GB (which is only recognized by very, very few recovery versions). Under-32GB FAT32 on a good quality card should be just fine.
Hi xclub but im not using extSD. Just the internal only.

OOPS, my apologies - if the problem is on internal memory things are probably more complex - you might need to repartition with Odin in download mode (and using the right partition file for you type of device)
If that fails too it is probably a hardware failure
Thanks imma try that first and see how it goes

[Q] HELP: SD Slot won't mount any SD CARD

Hi, so for the last two weeks i found this issue that's been killing me.
I run a P970 (Optimus Black) running always the latest NIGHTLY from CM10.1.
Two weeks ago I was updating the phone to the version "10.1-20130121-NIGHTLY" and everything went smoothly but after the reboot the phone wouldn't mount my SD card anymore. Mind you that I use a good SD CARD (Amazon Basics 16gb) and tried going into storage and mounting it from there. After several atempts such as removing battery, inserting SD and booting again I decided to check if my SD was corrupted.
IT WAS NOT! TAM DAM DAM!!!
I could access all of my files just fine from my computer.
Just to clear my mind I decided to format the SD card with SD FORMATER but it did bloody nothing.
After that, still holding on to my good manners I tried 3 other SD CARDS that I had laying around.
Nothing....
Now. It was personal.
I spent these last weeks and many aeons searching XDA and the rest of the internet for a case similar to mine and the closest I got, is a thread about a EVO 4G. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Unfortunatly, my Optimus Black refuses to play nice and still hasn't shape shifted to a EVO 4G so we could all move along.
Does anyone has come to a problem like this one? Know how to fix it?
I have already prayed to the Elder Gods and all that it brought me were these horrible, horrible nightmares.
Please, help!

Thanks
Download the latest nightly in your PC
Put your SD in your PC
Copy the file to your SD
Put your SD in your phone
Turn on your phone
When is on long press your power button
Select reboot, select reboot recovery
From there you must know the rest.
