Here goes.
Your T849 is like mine, exactly. And it is a P1000 with slightly (better) different modem that support T-Mobile 3G frequency, but also can be flashed with different modem firmware to support some other GSM network.
$50!!! wow, I wish I have a friend like yours

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
Yeah I'll look into that thanks.
And yeah he cleans out houses that are going on the market and found it with no cord and it didn't turn on so on that I just 50 just joking but he said yeah so

Lol ... as long as people keep asking, you'll inevitably stay in a "blushed" state.
Keep 'em comin ... and maybe one day you can pass the baton to a n00b-turned-experienced-user who can pass along the good deed you currently provide to those in need. No shame in sharing knowledge.

I searched around the internet but so far haven't found a tutorial and everything I've found on xda so far is either outdated or dead. Can you point me to any up to date resources? Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I have the Samsung Galaxy s Captivate and I want to upgrade it from 2.1 to froyo 2.2. I understand that ATT has not release it. However, I found this thread and froyo is leaked for everyone.
Here is the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
I was wondering if I need to be rooted in order to do this. If so, what is the most easy and most efficient way of doing it? I also want to get rid of all the ATT bloatware, I hear there is a great rom that gets rid of it.
Thanks for listening I can’t wait for your replies.
Michael.
Hello Michael,
The answer to all of your questions and more are in the thread you linked, including difficulties other people have had and sometimes their resolutions.
Good luck!
You found the thread you need to read. Go through it, even if it does take you about an hour to do. You need to read that way you know where information is on how to fix your phone if anything goes wrong. Everything you do on your phone is at your own risk.
Basically just flash using the one click ODIN for the JI6 build.
One important note is to remove the USB as soon as it reboots because otherwise you can face issues with it becoming stuck in airplane mode. I don't know why exactly but it happened to me and to others.
If you haven't flashed using Odin yet, search for the Odin3 thread. That will give you the steps to use the one click Odin.

Hi there if anyone could help me out im trying to locate the stock galaxy s telstra rom i done a back up of mine before i started playing around and some how managed to get a virus on my pc and lost everything including my backup i would really appreciate any support you all have to offer as for my wife wants the standard software back on her handset thanks for your time.
Stock telstra right?
The best place to find australian firmwares, telstra in particular, is whirlpool. XDA seems to ignore us
Go to the whirlpool thread "Stock I9000T Telstra Rom". There are links there from me as well as links to Doc Dan's hosted JH3. I would give a link but... my post count >.>
I highly recommend you use Doc Dan's files! I posted some, asked for feedback and never received it :/ Thats after 50+ downloads too
This is the stock 2.1. Havent seen DVJP8 yet. Coincidentally, does anyone know how to get/create these flashable ROM's? im sure people would like JP8 available for reflash instead of JH3, and samfirmwares doesn't have OUR JP8. Or OUR JH3 even. (samfirmwares.com: ignoring the telstra galaxy S even moreso than XDA developers )
Telstra is 2.2.1 now
Modem it comes with is DVJP9
Recommend it over 2.1 anyday
I recommend following my guide on how to upgrade to a custom rom
Stock is a waste of time

Network roms are only available if a user saves them and uploads them or at least shares .Most users do not bother so XDA never gets them .
Likewise unless the firmware is available from a user that has downloaded it Samfirmware cannot get a copy .
Both XDA and Samfirmware rely on you the user to supply the base roms they have no secret source of roms .

Thats fairly understandable
May i ask how this is done? all ive seen is system dumps, which i understand are useless for anything 'cept custom rom development
Either backing up rom through one of the apps available or saving a downloaded rom via Kies .Dont know if the spoof Kies method below still works .

Gday thanks for all your replys I have found a few links at whirlpool forum unfortunately there all no go anymore and I have tried the spoof method with no such luck either the reason I need the original telstra firmware is my touch screen is playing up and I was going to reload the original firmware and see if I can get it fixed under warranty as for its only about 4 months old I have tried other firmware and still have the same problem with the touch screen

Search for the thread "Stock I9000T Telstra Rom" on whirlpool. It should have posts that are both good. JH3 in zip folder is unpassworded, the .rar has asgardxda as the password as stated in the aussie firmwares thread (it is where i got a copy from). Also im pretty sure doc dans also works, there is a link at the bottom of that thread. I would LOVE to post direct links for you but my post count angers the xda
I certainly know mine (listed under "Orenthi", old screen name i would like to phase out / kill with fire) are still up and running. Over 50 downloads and not one bit of feedback XD. If it is bricking or failing to work i would love to know...
Anyways, i saved a kies downloaded ROM today, telstra JP8. Thanks JJEgan for the assistance in that . Seems right, slighly larger than telstra JH3, has all the files as seen in JH3 and no dbdata so like JH3 it isnt a full ROM (was expected). How would one make this odin flashable by the way? is it as simple as making it .tar.md5 and what application is recommended by xda for this?
edit: scratch that, have uploaded jp8. Tested it on my phone too!
Link can be found on whirlpool thread Samsung GT-I9000 series Aussie Firmwares, p10, 13th post hope it works for everyone else
Oh and apparently xda likes to know bootloader status. it takes the phone from 2e recovery to 3e recovery so ill go out on a limb and say does include bootloaders

I just got a Galaxy Tab WiFi myself, but I did my research *before* I bought it. No Gingerbread is available, that I know of. There are not many alternative ROMs for the WiFi only model.
What did you use in your rooting attempt? The only two ways I know are with a Windows app or with z4root, an Android app. I haven't tried either one, here is a link to z4root on this forum.

No offense but if you're going to criticize you might as well not even comment to avoid any frustrations or arguments as a result. Thank you for the link, I was able to find z4 and lag fix yesterday.... applied both but i might roll back on the lag fix since I have no haptic feedback now unless anyone knows of a fix? I wasn't able to find anything on Google... wifi only tab and p1010 aren't too popular searches.

****ty Samsung , is it so hard to just make an official Gb for this little tab considering the workforce they have at their disposal.
At one point I had heard that the Sprint stock GB (2.3.4) update worked on the Wifi only tabs, but I don't have a wifi only to test with.
I haven't heard of any alternative roms for the wifi only version.

Check with Kies, see if you have a firmware update. I only have a P1000, but maybe it's similar.

EDIT: from other answers here the Sprint GB 2.3.4 ROM stock or rooted sounds the way to go, so it looks like this should work for you as it did for me on my Verizon CDMA tab.
It's hard to say for sure, experimentation is part of the fun, but killing the tab isn't. I didn't find any definitive answers on flashing a Sprint CDMA ROM on to a Verizon CDMA Galaxy Tab (for example), so I decided to try for myself:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255339
I suspect doing a FULL ROM flash would be a *very* bad idea (it seems doing that with a GSM ROM on other (non-GSM) tabs KILLS it). However, the technique I used was only to apply the kernel and filesystems, so I would *think* if you had a backup from before (always best to have a backup anyway, right?) you could always revert. You may want to look around and check to see if stock WIFI images are out there (I don't know for sure) but the Voodoo or CwM (ClockworkMod) recovery backups should be fine either way.
Then if you apply the filesystem and kernel files from 2.3.4 and they don't work you should be able to revert (I would assume, I can certainly flash back and forth on mine). I would *think* the kernel supports vanilla hardware + CDMA additionally (i.e. you don't need it, but it doesn't hurt), but may be fine.
But again, unless you're prepared to take the risk, I cannot say for sure, you can wait and see if anyone else chimes in, but that's my take.

I have the P1010 also and from what I've heard, the two models (P1010 and P1000) have different hardware which makes the latter model possible for the ginger update while ours likely will never get it.

No offence but you are the one who was rude by bumping your topic after 2 hours and also accusing people who didnt answer as not courteous, so obviously you are going to get criticism.
Your problem is that you cant be bothered to go read or search and expect people to jump on your topic and bring all the info to you. This is XDA-developers, not tech support, try and at least help yourself first before demanding answers.

You can save a flashable ROM in the sdcard. Then if the tab got bricked, you can insert the sdcard in and reflash again. But i don't recommend doing this because me myself never flashed my tab, only my nexus one.
Hi,
I am new here and have just purchase Samsung Galaxy S i9000. I want to install ClockworkMod Recovery for flash ROMs. Please guide me with procedure. sorry for bad english. Thnanks.
Oh dear.
Don't post in the development sub-forum!
First piece of advice, read. read around, different posts, different messages, different google results, not only will you gain advice and information that can help you/save your ass in the future, you won't do rookie things like post in the dev forum.
And google anything you don't understand first. You're question is 99.9% of the time not original and already out there with several productive answers
But i'll cut you some slack.
Firstly, we need to know your current firmware. Go to Settings, and then about phone. look for your android version. and you're firmware. if you're unsure, take a picture of the about phone section and upload it here and we'll help you.
And could a dev shift this to the right place please

If youve got Gingerbread, then look for a custom kernel WHICH IS GINGERBREAD BASED NOT ICS OR JELLYBEAN BASED. Then using download a program called Odin. And put the Kernel in the PDA section of the program, if you dont know how to do this then there should be videos telling you how to do so on Youtube. Its the same flashing procedure for all the Galaxy S series of phones, if you type in "Galaxy s3 flash kernel" or something similar it should give you a general idea of how to do it. And remember to just read everthing they tell you to do for each kernel. Go through step by step and it should be easy. If something happens though cant be held responsible. gota be said, lol. I posted this question back in early october and no correct answers were given and thread was deleted. so here it goes again. I updated from stock hc to official stock ics through kies i guess? whichever is through the settings - check for updates on the tab. i then asked how to root to jb and people tried telling me one way and then others said no dont do it that way since im running stock official ics. i dont know what odin is, i dont know what flashing is and i dont know what kernels are. i would please like simple simple step by step instructions on how to root to the latest AOKP jb from official ics. i am sorry for the edginess but im just so frustrated i bought this tab and paid 330 for it in sept and I wish I would have waited. this tab is just to slow and id like the extra speed and features from jb as well as an option to oc the processor. $70 more and two months of waiting i could have got the nexus 10 .. oh and i have the wifi only 7310. PLEASE HELP!!

Debating on selling this thing if i cant get jb. what do you think a 32 gb 7310 only two months old aind in mint condition with a nice moto $40 leather case could fetch? lol again sorry for soundimg like an ass im just frustrated
I have a tab i957. It wasn't the easiest to get jb on. Which tab do you have?
The first thing you need is Odin. Google Odin 3 ver 1.85.
Then you'll need to flash a recovery, either twrp or clock work mod, make sure it's specific to the tab you have. you flash it with Odin
Then you'll need to down load a jb Rom on to your device, again make sure it's for your device. Then you flash it through the recovery.
The stickies will have more specific info. There are no simple steps. You have to learn by reading and trying.
