Just put framework-res apk from original rom into /system/framework/ and reboot and it will appear again. If you say what rom you are using,I would be more accurate in your answer
im on a stock ics rom and partially rooted. btw, can i use es explorer to access contents of system directory?

By partial root,do you mean root access but no cwm???I dont think you can use esexplorer because it doesnt have root access to access root files. You need file manger app with root access like rootexplorer
yes, i followed deathst guide for rooting a stock ics but i didn't implemented the full root instructions for partially rooted gnote
is the framework res apk available in the forum?

In this thread you will get the Flashable zip file of system ui.... In revert back link.

Ok so I modified the framework-res.apk file to have a custom notification bar. My question is how to make it so I can flash just the notification bar onto my phone? I know Metamorph is real easy but I want to be able to flash it in Clockworkmod Recovery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
easiest way to do it is adb pushing it back to /system/framework/framework-res.apk
Well that's what I have been doing, but I want to make it be able to be flashed in recovery.
You need to make an update.zip

How do I go about doing that?
Go to circle.glx.nl and choose flashable theme. Upload your framework-res.apk and voila !

Tried it and it seems great, but for some reason its causing everything to crash and force close on my phone.
Ok, so I think I narrowed it down to the fact that I need the correct update-script. I made one, flashed it and it went fine, but then I rebooted and didnt see a difference. So I tried to reflash it and then it gave me a syntax error. I know what a syntax error is, but my question is if anybody could give me the info of what I should put in the update-script so that it'll work correctly. Thanks!
i have a question too...
my phone has touchwiz 3.0
which in the notification bar there is a toggle buttons like; wifi, silent, bluetooth... etc.
i know it's important and useful, but why have to put it in notification bar... wasting some space, especially when in landscape mode.
is there any way to remove that toggle button?
I have that toggle widget too on my P500.
My .apk is located in /system/framework/lge-res.apk .
Backup it and then delete the .apk and see if it goes. If it doesn't work you will need a custom ROM with the toggle widget stripped out.
I want touchwiz on my phone.

Just rooted my new Note using Dr.Ketan's guide. All went perfectly well and quick. Big thanks to him.
Reinstalled same stock ROM( Austria). Strange thing: The Samsung application Torch has disappeared. Not a big deal, I know there are tons of them in Plays store.
I liked that one because it had 3 levels of brightness. Just curious: did it happen to anyone?
i have same problem.
i think you downgraded to older ROM (maybe base on 2.3.5) which not included torch app
I downgrated to older rom to get it rooted, but after I flashed exactly same rom, that i had before rooting.
Look if you still have the app in /system/app..
What kernel do you have? Some said that app does not work with kernels other than CF-Root and IIRC latest franco..
I have pda N7000XXLC1, PHONE N7000XXLB2, CSC N7000XXLB3,
It is exactly as before rooting.
kernel 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701
I can't find system folder. Don't see the torch in Titanium backup
Go to Settings > About Phone and see what's under kernel..
Use a file manager with root privileges (ES File Explorer, Root Explorer etc) and navigate to /system/app and look there
If you don't find it, open your backup zip with 7zip (or any ROM zip that you know it has that app) and copy the apk from there to your /system/app folder using one of the file managers mentioned above and set permissions like the other apks and reboot..
I know, that my rom had it and doesn't have it now..
it is not in /system/app. Sorry for the dumb question, but where my backup zip. suppose to be? thanks
Ohh..I assumed you made a backup before flashing..
I just check an old LB1 ROM I have and there is an apk named torchwidget.apk I think it's what you're looking for, check if you already have it but if you don't I'll upload it for you..
no, I didn't do backup because there is the same rom in Doctors list, so i flashed it after rooting. I checked in my apps, i don't have it. If you upload it, it would be great. thanks
I appologize, I do have it in system/apps, but it doesn't run for some reason
Here is the file:
Download HERE
- Move that file to your sd card
- Use any file manager with root privileges
- Copy and paste that file to /system/app
- Long press on it and choose "Permissions" from the menu
- Set the permissions so it will be like the other apks in that folder "rw-r--r--"
- Reboot your phone and test the widget

That's weird..
Even when you try to add the widget to your home screen?
the permissions are same as for other apps. To move it to home screen i need to see it in applications, right? but i don't have it there. Am i missing something?i see it only in file manager
It might be only a widget without actual app..
Go to Settings > Applications > All, do you see it there?
If so then it's only a widget and not a full app, long press on your home screen and see if it appears under the widgets list..

You need to be rooted, at least to be able to use AntTek and Root Uninstaller, and no, you won't loose it in case of FW update, unless the upgrade is for the camera too... but the process is fast. 5 minutes and its done

Thanks Dude, but did download the ICS Camera, to take pictures without shutter sound.
Ruedas, a rooted phone doesnt receive OTA updates, right?
strange thing that i downloaded the apk, tried to install it but wouldnt work even after changing permissions. Had no camera forawhile. Downloaded the stock apk, just copy and pasted it in the folder and all of a sudden i have my camera back with no shutter sound...no idea why but thanks
I'm trying my best to fix (IOW; mute) the shutter sound on my GF's O4X. While I believe I understand how this is done, I'm not able to actually get it done.
I've managed to get the phone rooted (thanks to alexp999's simple to follow guide). If I've understood things correctly; I now need to replace the original camera.apk with the modified one found in this thread.
Problem is that, in the /system/app folder, both renaming files (the old camera.apk) and copying files (the new camera.apk) to the folder fails.
Anyone able to see what I'm missing / doing wrong? Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!..

Thanks for the reply and suggestion RuedasLocas!
Titanium Backup seems to have the option to uninstall system apps, I'll give that a go. Would however like to figure out how to copy files to the system/app folder before I do that (given that this is required to re-install/enable the camera). Have tried with both ES File Manager and Total Commander; both have been given SU-privelages, both are able to browse to the folder, neither is able to copy files to or rename files in the folder...

Tried AnTek Explorer; What an interesting file manager! Will have to test this for a longer period of time, could possibly become my new goto file manager. Thanks for the tip!..
Though I couldn't get the new/modified camera.apk to the system/app directory. Though this time it failed with an error messge; "Error Don't have enough permission to do this action" (see attached screenshot). Have double-checked that "Native mode" is enabled within AnTek and that its (permanently) enabled in SuperSU. Not sure how I can give an app even more permissions...

Just reboot the phone and it should be enough.
Some apps need a reboot to work properly.

Thanks for all the help! Rebooting allowed me to rename files. Then I finally figured out why copying files to the system folder failed (or at least partly); For reasons unknown to me, I weren't allowed to copy/move files directly from the external_sd card to the system/app directory, Had to first move the to an internal location, then I could move then to the desired location!
End result; The annoying shutter sound is gone! :victory:
Again; Thanks for all the help!

3.- Press the button Mount R/W at the top.
4.- Place the downloaded attachments there.
5.- Press Remount as R/O

Hi Folks,
I have installed the Pure Vanila V5 ROM from here. And immediately flashed the CoCore-E-6.8-CWM Kernel using UKF. The combination looks pretty good to me except a few things mentioned below.
1. The font colour in some of the settings menu has turned white. The solution to solve it as per the link above is to update the framework with a seperate framework.apk, i tried that, but i am getting an error message that 'Aplication not installed'. does anyone know a workaround for this.
2. Secondly i like to install the Stock Samsung Music Player. I found the apk file in the above link and also from many other links in XDA, but when i try to install the apk, the error message 'Aplication not installed' pops up.
3. I also tried to install the TouchWiz Launcher using the apk downloaded from the above link, but the same error.
Are these errors a result of Pure Vanila with CoCore-E-6.8-CWM combination? Why i am not able to install these apps. however there is no problem in installing apps from play store.
Please Help

framework-res.apk
Thanks for the prompt reply.
On the 1st point i am refering to 'framework-res.apk' which the developer of the Pure Vanila ROM has included as a seperate package. Can i put this file also on the system/app folder. As per the developer, the purpose if this tweak is to resolve an issue with the font colours in some of the settings option.
And on second and third point, I have copied the apks in the system/app folder. Now i guess the next step is to wipe the dalvik cache; so that, after a reboot i can see the app in my app drawer. Am i correct?
regards,
fred

No, framework-res.apk goes into system/framework folder. Rename the old one and push the new one. Then delete the old one and restart. You need to do nandroid backup first is anything goes wrong.

Please note that the fixed framework has a new bug - it gives you split settings window as if in tablet mode.
If you like it, then good, but if you don't you need to push back the old framework.
