[Q] MMS on ICS, does it work for ANYONE? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT FIXED: Really silly but all I had to do was delete the extra APNs. I had about 6 saved settings there called Rogers, Rogers1, Rogers2 etc. I'm guessing my SIM made all of those since the flashing and all of new rom was completely clean and I didn't write up any APN. As soon as I deleted those my MMS worked!I never had to change any APN settings as these were always correct, just deleted the ones my phone wasn't using, weird
Just upgraded to 4.0.4 - heres the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625619
I've searched and searched and searched some more but it's evident that irrespective of what ROM you use MMS doesn't seem to work on ICS.
Anyone have any idead.
My APN settings are perfect, everyhitng else is working beautifully, I've even tried disabling data and sending MMS over Wifi only, multiple restarts etc. but NOTHING works.
Does MMS sending/receiving work for ANYONE on ICS 4.0.4?
Ps. I have a Rogers i896 - quite obviously rooted so it thinks it's an i897

[Q] Gingerbread MMS Not Working?

Since the first day I got my N1, I have configured 2 APNs, one for mobile data and the other one for sending/ receiving MMS
so I can safely disable the entire mobile data connection without hindering my phone from sending & receiving MMS
This method was working fine on vanilla Froyo ROM as well as CM6
But no matter how I try, I cannot get this method working on CM7.
I thought it was CM7 issue, so I flashed vanilla GB ROM, only to find that the method is not working either.
Do i miss anything? Now i have to manually enable my APN everytime i want to send/receive a MMS, that's really stupid...
Today I flash CM6.1.1, the dual APN method is working fine.
Does this have anything to do with Gingerbread? A bug or something?

Thanks for the reply.
A full wipe using teamsek's nuke-everything format file solves that problem
i guess some bits and odds are left when i use RA built-in full wipe, causing some problem
now it's working fine again

[Q] ICS and Captivate

Hey
For the past month or so I have been playing around with a few builds of ICS for captivate. I started to notice that whichever build I used whether it was teamhacksung or miui I didn't have 3g. I changed my APN multiple times, tried different radios and it go to the point when my signal in my basement (where I get crap for signal) showed full bars and 3g except the speed was terrible. Is this a common issue? Anyone able to give me a hand?
I just recently went back to my old backup of CM7 and my 3g works flawless.

Since it's not fully developed yet, there can be random bugs like that. Try a factory reset and a full reinstall. If that doesn't work, you may have to try going from stock

Stock as in flashing back to froyo or eclair, and then however you want to get to ICS
i'm having some what the same problem but with H20 setting not working right. i get talk and text but no internet or mms, and even the setting disappear after i save then

MMS issues on every CM7 ROM.

This has been happening on every android device afaik, tried on GT-P1000, on GT-S5660 and now on GT-S5830 (that's galaxy tab 7", galaxy Gio and galaxy ace).
On CM7 it's impossible to receive or send MMS unless you have an active internet connection which can't be wi-fi btw only data works. This is a major issue, data plans in Portugal are a pain in the ass and expensive but MMS service is free. Now, the MMS works IF you delete the data for internet however as soon as you reboot it stops working. Setting mms profile to * or default, mms also does the trick however 50% of the time also fails to work. On stock Rom it works just fine and this seems to be an issue with data profiles on the cm7 Rom itself.
Now for my question, anyone knows a way to fix this? I've googled for ages with no luck.
My carrier is Vodafone Portugal and the APN are configured using the APN Portugal app on the play store which works just fine on CM9 and Stock.
Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read this and answering if at all.

did you already try GoSMS?
or this workaround?

did you try the workaround from my first post?
I went the stock route as well lol I just like CM better than Stock. That workaround is for receiving MMS via wi-fi only isn't it? Or did I read that wrong?

[Q] Issues with XXBLL5 (camera and 4G/mobile data)

Hello everyone,
First of all I've searched the all the 9305 forums and I cannot find a post regarding this topic, so I thought I'll post my question here.
As this is my first post - so Hello!
I've got a S3 I9305 on EE in the UK and all the ROMs that are based on XXELKC work fine, however whenever I apply a ROM which is based off XXBLL5 I always have these two issues:-
No mobile data, but WIFI works fine
The camera stops working, I get an error explaing that the "Camera has stopped"
Each time I apply the XXBLL5 ROMs I clear the various caches and wipe all of the user data.
Has anyone got any ideas or any alternative approaches I can take?
PS. Can someone explain to me what the do the various XXELKC, XXBLL5 markings mean? I assume it's the build of the OS, but is it from a driver/hardware firmware point of view?
Thanks!

How did you first install a BLL5 rom? Was it a complete Odin package or just a custom rom based on it?
I have a very similar problem, I used various XXBLL5 roms (stock and custom) and every time, I have issues sending email with my exchange account. However, when using WiFi access, sending mails works without problems. It only occurs when I'm connected on Mobile Data (3G), sending doesn't work and mails keep getting stuck in the outbox. At the same time, I'm able to use the internet and other online apps. So there's definitely an internet connection active on my device. I've already tried installing modem fw XXBLL3 but problem remains. This really frustrates the hell out of me, I'm an IT professional and use my mail constantly, not having this is truly a disaster. I own this phone one week now. First thing I did out of the box was getting root access and installing a bloatware free rom... better haven't done that
Really haven't a clue why it's only the sending of mails in the exchange app that isn't working. And so far, I haven't seen any other issues. My camera works fine btw.
Has anyone seen this behavior? Or any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

Perhaps your carrier has the port you are using blocked? Have you tried installing a stock rom? You will probably find one at http://www.sammobile.com/
I'm using my exchange account which connects on port 80 (not using ssl). But I have tried something different now. I installed the free app of Touchdown witch Exchange ActiveSync, and heyhey... what do you know. This app has no problems sending mails on either WiFi or 3G. So conclusion, it has to be an issue with the standard exchange/email app in JB.
I'm guessing there is a bug in the stock app for exchange, does anyone else has this issue?

Frustrations with MMS on T-Mobile (ATT model, black)

An hour ago this was going to be a totally different post.
I'm using an ATT branded, black HTC One. My SIM is for T-Mobile. Like many others, I'm experience issues with sending/receiving MMS. I had been using Android Revolution HD 71.1 and would be unable to send MMS. Strangely, though - my ability to send them seemed locations specific. At work it was no problem, at home it would fail every time.
Unless I disabled WiFi. With WiFi disabled, they seemed to send no problem, but with WiFi and Mobile Data simultaneously enabled it would return errors. Disabling WiFi while at home was an inelegant solution, so I tried downgrading to Android Revolution HD 30.6, which is Android 4.3 rather than 4.4.2. This seemed to have done the job. Until it no longer worked.
Same issue. Wifi disabled - fine. Wifi enabled - unable to send MMS. Everything else works fine, phone calls, mobile internet, etc.
This was meant to be a post advising others how to fix this problem. Instead I'm right back where I started.
This is very frustrating. Especially since I thought I had found a solution only for it to fail once again.

When I was running the T-Mobile 4.4.2 with Sense 5.5 I had issues receiving MMS when connected to WiFi. They would always fail, I would have to disconnect from WiFi and then the MMS would automatically receive. But, since the update to the T-Mobile 4.4.2 Sense 6.0 OTA rom, all the MMS now work as normal whether I'm connected to WiFi or not.
I do know that the SMS app called ChompSMS has a specific T-Mobile setting that will temporarily switch from WiFi to cellular to send/receive MMS and back again. Maybe you can try that if you don't want to run the stock ROM.
@Miguel_Lancaster
Try upgrading to the latest tmous firmware. 5.14.531.1 ,might help. I will include the latest tmous radio and radio config. I have an att phone/sim, but i'm running gpe firmware and rom. I hope this helps.
It had seemed when I first got the device up and running that everything was fine with MMS (that was using 4.4.2, Sense 6.0), but either after a certain number of messages, or while in certain areas I would have to turn off WiFi to be able to send MMS.
That's why I tried downgrading to 4.3 with the alternate version of Android Revolution HD (essentially a tweaked version of the stock HTC ROM). What I find odd about the two version of that ROM (30.6 vs. 71.1) is that the installer for one includes an model selection screen and the other treats them all alike. 30.6 allows me to choose between International, ATT/Developer, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.
Initially I chose ATT/Dev as that's the hardware model of my HTC One and wasn't keen to deal with a soft-brick. As stated in my first post, this seemed promising initially but shortly after ran into the same bug. I flashed one more time and tried using the 'T-Mobile' model selection during install. This has proven the most reliable method for me thus far. I suppose it would have to do with the radio being flashed between versions? It's curious to me that a similar option is not included in the other ROM version -- something I wanted to address in that ROM's development thread, but am prohibited from doing currently due to my post count.
Anyhow, 4.3 with Sense 5.5 seems to finally be working for now. Android 4.4.2 and Sense 6.0 did have some some aesthetic differences that I preferred, in addition to seeming marginally faster. I'll deal with an older version of the OS though if it means my phone functions properly.
Thank you both for your replies.
One thing that may be worth mentioning is that I've yet to enable Group MMS in my messenger settings this go-around. I suspect that its coincidental, but I'm reluctant to see what happens if I do enable it.
Maybe I'll try again with 4.4.2 in the future, but all this flashing, re-flashing, and settings tweaking becomes pretty tedious. In relation to that point: Does anyone have any experience with the built in HTC/Google app backup/sync. For some reason I've never really trusted any all-in-one solutions to be reliable, especially between ROMs or Android versions. Perhaps I should trust them more?
P.S.
CID Getter app lists my CID as CWS_001 --
don't know why I never bothered checking that until now. Could changing it to TMO_001 be helpful at all or does it not matter?
I broke MMS again, but this time I figured out how!
AdBlock Plus seems to be the culrpit.
As soon as I installed it MMS stopped working again. Unless WiFi gets turned off. Or ABP. If ABP is disabled everything works fine.
I did some research and it seems to be that ABP filters traffic on port 80, the same port that MMS send/receive.
I tried changing my APN settings for T-Mobile to operate through port 8080 as a workaround, but that didn't help. For now though, seems that AdBlock Plus is the perpetrator. I'm gonna try one more time with 4.4.2 and see if I can duplicate the same results.

Hi Miguel, I can confirm that AdBlock Plus will prevent you to send and receive MMS. Looks like the app block traffic on the port used by MMS. I have personally experienced this issue, and disabling AdBlock Plus solved it. There is also a few thread here that discuss that issue (irc, I posted in those). This issue was also reported hundred of times on AdBlock Plus forum, not sure if there is any solution (except for disabling it): https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11755#p66133

Yup, it's a shame that such a well documented bug has gone unfixed.
Good to finally have figured out my problem, only took a few days of tinkering to finally narrow it down to ABP and be able to make a relevant search to back up my hunch.
