This has been happening on every android device afaik, tried on GT-P1000, on GT-S5660 and now on GT-S5830 (that's galaxy tab 7", galaxy Gio and galaxy ace).
On CM7 it's impossible to receive or send MMS unless you have an active internet connection which can't be wi-fi btw only data works. This is a major issue, data plans in Portugal are a pain in the ass and expensive but MMS service is free. Now, the MMS works IF you delete the data for internet however as soon as you reboot it stops working. Setting mms profile to * or default, mms also does the trick however 50% of the time also fails to work. On stock Rom it works just fine and this seems to be an issue with data profiles on the cm7 Rom itself.
Now for my question, anyone knows a way to fix this? I've googled for ages with no luck.
My carrier is Vodafone Portugal and the APN are configured using the APN Portugal app on the play store which works just fine on CM9 and Stock.
Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read this and answering if at all.

i also recognized this problem in cm7..
did you already try GoSMS?
or this workaround?

(sorry, not allowed to post extern links)
I did try GoSMS without luck, did you change any of the settings to make it work?

i didnt make it work, i just used stock rom again..
did you try the workaround from my first post?
I went the stock route as well lol I just like CM better than Stock. That workaround is for receiving MMS via wi-fi only isn't it? Or did I read that wrong?

Yes i think.
Related
This is about all the data connection through the MOBILE provider, so not WIFI.
It is after x time when the phone is on. Maybe it is GPS related.
But bottomnline: the icon with the H or the E(dge) is there and it is even flashing for data, however every app stats there is no connection to the network.
After a reboot all is fine.
Other persons are also experiencing this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675786&highlight=huuub
I am using cyanogens latest with one of pershoots latest, but other kernels show the same behaviour.
My guess is that everyone has this problem? Is this a bug somewhere?
This happensto mine as well. I just switch in and out of flight mode to fix it.

So why make a new thread if you've already found one that fits your problem?

This is a carrier issue. Not the Rom. trust me.
I have not that impression. Why do you?

Oh, ok, I should trust you. If you hadn't told me to trust you, I wouldn't have, but now that you did tell me, I do.
I think it's a software issue, as do many other people. Never had this problem with tmobile on any other phone.
Oh, I almost forgot: trust me.
Does anyone here notice it seems to get lost after leaving a wifi connection? Like this bug?

I have the same problem, im using modaco CM mod 5.0.6
I don't remember to have this problem with modaco desire/nexus Rom

really a bug ?
ok guys, I am completely in a stock 2.1 rom .. no mods whatsoever and not rooted as well .. to get this problem, use wi-fi for a while(5mins example) and then disable it .. then use ur gprs/edge and see if it works.. the small E logo will show and the upstream arrow will glow white but downstream arrow will stay dark gray.. both should glow white when accessing the net but it doesn't after using wi fi .. this is really pissing me off having to restart my phone everytime this happens and I use both wi fi and gprs for everyday use .. can someone check to see if this problem is persistent ? thanks ..
Juicedefender is the cause
Ok, I figured out what was causing these problems. And I found out that after uninstaling Juicedefender my Cell connection returns. Anyway Juicedefender didn't seem to do so much for me anyway. (on the contrary I believe)
Can anybody confirm?
Hello
I've a PPTP VPN account it works perfect on my MAC but if I try to use it on my TAB it connects fine but after 10 sec it stops working it just blocks all data, what could be causing it and how to fix it
Cheers

I have a similar issue with my PPTP VPN on my Tab. It connects fine but won't pull data down. Same thing happens on my Desire. I think it's is either Android or my mobile provider that is causing the issue. I don't think it is Tab specific.
Anybody found any fix for it? as it don't feel comportable using my TAB at public hotspots
Here's the same for me! Please advice if anyone could find a solution!
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem with my SGS2 v2.3.4 XXKG6. The server VPN it's a Linksys WRT350N with DD-WRT v14896 Mega.
Is there any solution for this huge problem??
Thanks in advance
It looks like it is somehow related to MTU settings

The problem only happens when you connect via 3G. How I can check my SGS2 and the router MTU settings?.
All internet is full of this issue!
Thanks for the help
Don't worry, it's normal. From 1.6 to 3.2 I still have to see VPN working on Android.

I use a 'Hidemyass' PPTP VPN on both my Galaxy Tab and HTC Desire, never had a problem. Both are running stock Gingerbread firmware.

Just to clarify, it's a service (paid one) and not an app. Still, if it works it's a find, a VPN that works on Android!

Try the solution from @codington half way down this page: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205990&page=42
It's using openvpn, but I got it working last night. In addition to the instructions, you'll need to create the directories /system/xbin/bb (as mentioned in the next page by @xda890). I also had to put my openvpn folder (with settings files) into /etc as well before I could sign in.
But it works a treat!
Yeah openvpn works fine after rooting, we are talking about pptp vpn

Since the first day I got my N1, I have configured 2 APNs, one for mobile data and the other one for sending/ receiving MMS
so I can safely disable the entire mobile data connection without hindering my phone from sending & receiving MMS
This method was working fine on vanilla Froyo ROM as well as CM6
But no matter how I try, I cannot get this method working on CM7.
I thought it was CM7 issue, so I flashed vanilla GB ROM, only to find that the method is not working either.
Do i miss anything? Now i have to manually enable my APN everytime i want to send/receive a MMS, that's really stupid...
Today I flash CM6.1.1, the dual APN method is working fine.
Does this have anything to do with Gingerbread? A bug or something?

I don't think so, I heared from people on forum that it works well

Thanks for the reply.
A full wipe using teamsek's nuke-everything format file solves that problem
i guess some bits and odds are left when i use RA built-in full wipe, causing some problem
now it's working fine again
EDIT FIXED: Really silly but all I had to do was delete the extra APNs. I had about 6 saved settings there called Rogers, Rogers1, Rogers2 etc. I'm guessing my SIM made all of those since the flashing and all of new rom was completely clean and I didn't write up any APN. As soon as I deleted those my MMS worked!I never had to change any APN settings as these were always correct, just deleted the ones my phone wasn't using, weird
Just upgraded to 4.0.4 - heres the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625619
I've searched and searched and searched some more but it's evident that irrespective of what ROM you use MMS doesn't seem to work on ICS.
Anyone have any idead.
My APN settings are perfect, everyhitng else is working beautifully, I've even tried disabling data and sending MMS over Wifi only, multiple restarts etc. but NOTHING works.
Does MMS sending/receiving work for ANYONE on ICS 4.0.4?
Ps. I have a Rogers i896 - quite obviously rooted so it thinks it's an i897

hi there, i just bought my galaxy note 1 month ago, and there is a problem with the packet da ta, sometimes i cant connect to the internet and the packet data symbol just suddenly dissapear, i have try to on off my packet data from settings but nothing happens, still cant connect, so i need to restart my phone by turning it off and turning it on so the packet data or internet connection can run smoothly again, please can someone help me with this probelem, is this the provider error or my note?
not sure if it'll help you in any way, as your problem may be completely different, but check your APN settings - few stock ROMs ago, my Note used to change APN name by itself (don't remember now, but sth like "_android" was added to the name from time to time), and I had to manually correct it each time. Then after one of the upgrades the problem disappeared, still don't know what was the reason...
