[Q] Proper stock rom and Kies - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I would need your help to understand how to fix the following issue:
My girlfriend downloaded and installed a gingerbread version 2.3.4 (build xxjvp) using odin more than one year ago.
Since then Kies does not recognize the device anymore.
The phone has been bought in Italy but it starts with Hungarian language as a default (it also has Italian and English for sure).
We would like to know what is the most updated stock rom available for that phone and we would like to download the appropriate one (so that Kies recognise the phone).
Possibly the link to the firmware would help as well.

You might be able to find what you need here.

Why does Kies keep saying that ge does not recognise the siftware?

Look up ICS333 flashing guide. There is a GB flash kit with all the files you need. Backup with titanium backup, flash the stock from the ICS333 installation instruction thing and restore with titanium. Why not upgrade to ICS? I recommend ICS333. Best ICS rom ever!

Does everything work on ics and i9000s?

My idea was to bring the phone back to its original state. Does anybidy know why there is a problem with kies?

Yeah. ICS works exactly like it should. It also depends on the rom. Eg. On CM9 formatting the external SD doesn't work. On ICS333 everything works.

Flash the stock rom on the ICS333 installation instructions page. That will being the phone to its original stage. Why do you want to use kies? I don't use it. Not many people do. Custom ROMs brake kies. You have to be on stock to use kies. Why not Google sync or something.

It's not working because Kies sucks just flash whatever firmware you like in Odin with the link I provided you. Easy just follow instructions in link. Flashing your phone with Odin is the quickest and easiest way to get it back to original stock setup.

Checking it out now!
If you want to go to the stock, go to the thread by ramad mentionned above and flash UGKG3, it's the latest and greatest stock bell firmware, as well as being rooted and deodexed. I'm running it now, works great.

Ok ill take a look at that too. How long have you been running that on your phone? Will I be able to update my phone in the future via kies if I wanted to?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You can update using kies, it's detected and read by the kies client. I've been running it for a few weeks, never a single problem. It has busybox 1.19 installed in the bin folder, but you can just install an older one to sbin or xbin if you really need to. I really recommend it, I had a lot of trouble trying to root the stock 2.2.3 on my own.

[Q]Bootloaders

Is there any way to check what bootloaders I am running? I did have the GB bootloaders installed when I ran Fusion, Fasty & J3 leak but I have Odin'd back to stock with the no bootloader version & Kies Mini upgraded me to Froyo. Does Kies flash the froyo bootloaders? Is there a way I can check using root explorer?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
If you flash a TB rom and it doesn't work. The only way to check.

A side from trial and error of kernels and button cimbos you can't. Tho there might be some info in a UART readout. But getting it to even post UART is more then what most of us are willing to do.

If I have an I9000 Gingerbread ROM installed, do I need to flash new bootloaders if I want to flash a Captivate ROM?

No. I've stayed on i9000 GB bootloaders and flashed Captivate ROMs; they work fine.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Normally no, gb bootloaders are compatible with each other, only the stock music player is known to misbehave. Some devs will advise you to use specific bootloaders, but in the end it's ur call. I'd say pick ur poison and stick with it, avoid flashing bootloader as much as u can, as it's THE part in the flashing process where your phone can be hard bricked.
Just flashed a GB stock rom w/ no BL's & it works. Looks like Mini Kies leaves the BLs alone when being upgraded from Eclair.

Are you on Rogers? if so then Kies did update the BL's, if it didnt and you try running a true GB ROM then you wouldnt be able to boot, it would have a bunch of weird colors on your screen when you tried to boot up...
I am on AT&T. Read my first post. I ran custom roms then I went back to stock then upgraded to Froyo thru Mini Kies. My question was to find a way to see what BLs I had after a Kies update. It seems not to touch them on AT&T until GB is official because I just tested another GB rom & it works.

GB stock ROM.

I find here this emmc bug is killing everyone.
I bought this GN just 2 weeks ago.at begining it came with GB installed.i recieved ota update in the same day for ics.so i did it.
After updating i did factory reset the device without knowing that there is a danger to damage the device.
Then i tried to root and installed some other kernels with cwr, which was another mistake.and finally flash it again with stock rom.but this time no wipe!
So the phone is not in clean state.
I read that one way to avoide damaging the device is to flash it with GB rom and then wipe then flash it again with ics one.all by pc odin.
But my problem is i cant find the original GB Rom to do it.
Is it important to flash with original or i can do it with any stock GB rom?
And is there any kernel based on stock kernel which has no mod no tweak and stuff but safe to wipe?i mean with mmc earase disabled.

Here's the link where you can find stock GB (Courtesy of doc Ketan) ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 Find your Stock ROM (based on your region)
Let me clear out some wrong notions spreading before.... you can safely WIPE your phone even on ICS as long as you have installed a safe kernel on to your device. You don't necessarily need to go to STOCK GB and do the wipe from there. It is already safe WIPING your phone on ICS just as long as you have the safe kernel installed on your phone.
Safe kernels to mentioned are SpeedMod, HardCore (that is if your in ICS), AbyssNote (if your still on stock GB)
Again no stock GB rom from my country.funny i went to samfirmware before and nothing there also.but for other region there are many!
Current ROM is N7000XXLRI
Which is the only FW from my region.

If you can't find any stock GB from your region then don't fret , Download a direct rootable ROM closest to your region and flash it from there. Remember, your goal is not to say long in GB right? so after you've downloaded a direct rootable GB ROM.. Download back your stock ICS ROM thru PC Odin, ROOT it thru Doc Ketan's thread still and then do a FACTORY wipe after.
P.S. Don't worry about the triangle mark on your boot up screen. You can safely remove that thru ChainFire's TriangleAway app (when your rooted already)
I'll try this.
After all, what do you suggest as a daily driver rom or kernel on GN which is safe and stable to flashing wiping and stuff?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I'm using stock LRQ (for now), but I've cooked it and made some big modifications to the ROM itself and now everything's working and my phone ''flies'
For the kernel.. SpeedMod is my truly one option... Stability and battery performance... It never fails on me still.... Any cooked ROMs I'm making or flashing one from our good ROM cookers here on this forum.. This kernel is still my best bet... but hey... this just me okay... if you want other safe kernels out there, feel free to try them out... it's your choice anyway...

Hydracore can be used on all ICS and JB roms (TW, CM and AOKP) another is Speedmod for TW ICS roms, these two are safe and can be used as per your rom. Most of the roms are stable now, it totally depends on you, which one suits your requirements
Edit- letters_to_cleo your invisible status always confuse me, lol.
Thanks everyone for replys and help.

Reverting back to standard ICS.

Hi folks. I have decided to return back to ICS to get the official JB update when it hits in the UK. I was on various Custom JB roms but mainly CM10.1 and now want to try back out the standard JB. Anyways being the sensible chap that I thought I was I done a back up of ICS and that has reinstalled perfect. However not being such a clever chap I forgot I done that back up after updating to 4.0.4 (XXLRK) via Odin when I had my pc and now Kies wont let me update via it. Second problem I have is I no longer have a pc (in my house) because I bought an iMac.
So my question is. Is there a way to get a the standard ICS firmware that should be on an O2 Carphonewarehouse N7000 in the form of a ROM rather than the Odin files somewhere? I still have CWM recovery and Philz 3.99 installed and working.
Thanks in advance.
You can download the firmware you want from samfirmware.com and place it on phone memory. Then use mobile odin to flash the rom.
Do not wipe on stock ics kernels.

Ok I shall look to that idea. Just as another quick question if I do install the firmware via mobile Odin will it change the Kernel or will it keep me on Philz and thus still be safe?
While selecting the rom in mobile odin, it will fill up the partitions. At that time change the kernel manually to philz ics kernel tar.md5 file. That way you will be safe.
Just a thought but i wonder would kies pick up on the kernel and not allow update because of that?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No kies does not pick up kernel. Just PDA, phone and csc. But OTA won't work on other kernels and recoveries.
Had a look on Samfireware but no sign on 4.0.4 for United Kingdom. Am i just being blind?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
There is a cpw 4.0.4 in there which is xxlrk. I think that's what you already have.
Just looked one website via iMac and can see it. Not sure but here is a screen shot of my settings and i notice that the firmware seems to be the one listed.
Any other idea why kies not liking this?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
This is what my kies says.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Could be because the baseband is incorrect. Open the rom file you downloaded and there will be a modem.bin file. Flash it using mobile odin. Use the modem tab.
Aha i knew it would be someething daft that i was missing. Thanks man.
Can you flash modem via cwm?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I don't know what modem it comes with that's why I asked you to extract from the rom file. If you know then check in this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202
Thats brilliant. I will look at that tonight after work. Thank you very muxh for all your help.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Downloaded and flashed the LRK modem and seems like all is well and Kies likes it all again. Very big big thanks for the help.
No problem.. Take care.

[Q] [Question] How to Flash Stock ROM without ODIN

Hi,
I have the following problem:
I have a S5830L which I've downloaded the Samsung Unbranded Stock ROM GB 2.3.6 for this phone.
The problem is that when I put it on Download mode ODIN detects it BUT when I click on start it stops on "SetupConnection" and after 10 min it shows fail.
The phone is running fine, but It has the carriers ROM and with version 2.3.4, with CWM
How can I flash it via ODIN or another method?
I cannot figure out...
Thanks!
There's a thing called mobile Odin. Not sure if it works for your device but you can use the search option here to find out more...
