Hello!
So, I wanted to know, if it is possible to receive original updates through Kies, if I rolled back from custom rom, to original GB 2.3.6.? Cause, I don't see any ics update for my GNote and I am from Latvia (seb), bought it here. And what is all mess about some kind ics glitch or brick, something?
Thanks!
As long as you roll back to the Original 2.3.6 ROM from your phones original region then Kies will allow you to update.
I know this because I flashed back to gingerbread from the ICS LPY ROM when the all the brick issues happened. Kies would not recognize the firmware on my phone till I flashed the MTL (Bulgarian) gingerbread ROM that came with my phone.

Anybody know where I can find this firmware?
I9000XFJM5/I9000OXFJM2/I9000XXJM1/I9000XFJM5
I'm planning to Kies upgrade to the UK version of 2.2 Froyo. But I want to have a localized backup for when a official update hits JM5 So I can reflash it with odin.
Also if I upgrade with kies is there any method to revert back to the XFJM5?

i checked samfirmware, couldn't find it
Hi,
Firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered. I tried using the search facility but didn't find the answer I needed.
I purchased my SGS from Malaysia. It came loaded with JG4 and the Singtel (Singapore) branding. I decided to flash the firmware to JP3 in order to get rid of the Singtel apps and the splash screen.
I have a few questions:
1. Will Kies still allow me to update to official Froyo even though I manually flashed to JP3? I'm aware that the official firmware isn't available yet for most of Asia, but want to make sure that when it does become available, Kies will let me update.
2. If I flash an unofficial European firmware onto my device, will I then be able to upgrade via Kies to the official European firmware? How does Kies determine which update is ideal for your phone? Is it based on the current firmware? Or do they check your serial number or something to determine where the phone was sold and only recommend that regions firmware? Do I need to downgrade to 2.1 in order for the Kies update to recognise that I need an update?
I know that if I really wanted to I could update things manually via Odin, but I would now prefer to stick to the official method of updating.
Thanks.
Similar difficulties
Hey,
I am having similar problems. I got my galaxy s from tmobile in uk but I upgraded my galaxy s to froyo 2.2 using Odin3. Problem is at that time I didn't have enough knowledge. The phone got upgraded to 2.2 properly but now a lot of functions like Swype don't work on it and also the Internet crashes quite oftenly also it is a little slow. I came to xda developers also in hopes to find out how to re flash galaxy s to 2.1 or fix my problems.
My advice for you is however, don't rush into anything like I did.
Regarding Swype, mine was disabled after I flashed the firmware too. Try holding down the button in the bottom left of the messaging screen to turn it back on.
Bump.
Can anybody shed some light on either question?
Is the official 2.2 update available yet via Kies?
I updated out of the box (got phone yesterday - unlocked but has some Vodafone branding in ROM) but still no 2.2 update.
Thanks
Phil

Well that's sorta the problem for me... I don't even know whether Kies will give me the option for updating to the official 2.2 firmware if it already sees that I have an unofficial 2.2 firmware installed already.
Having done some research (thanks google) I know Kies does not provide Froyo for Vodafone branded phones yet. However it appears to be due very soon.
The easiest way to get Froyo I think is to install ROM manager, then download a custom Froyo, stick it on your internal SD and flash it from recovery mode. Doc Froyo comes highly recommended
Probably not. I remember reading somewhere that kies will give you a message saying firmware not recognised.
Hi guys, i'm looking for the official rom for Samsung galaxy S I9000, my carriere is Bell Canada, I don't really care what version it is I'm gonna update it to the latest version using Kies.
You can download from samfirmware
I have been looking for a rom and a tutorial for 4 hour, tried 2 but kies keep telling me that my phone can`t b upgraded by kies. If anyone has a working tutorial For SGS I9000 (Bell CA) please tell me

Before any rom upgrade (out of kies) you must be operator free... Well, that's what I understood when I first flashed my SGS1.
You shouldn't stick with stock roms (my opinion), custom roms, in my experience ( which it's not much ahah) are always better because it's made by costumers that want their phone with their full power without restritions. Well, at first I was like you, a bit apreensive, now I have Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3) and I dont want to go back! Its awsome. But you should read a bit more about everything.
Try reinstall kies, maybe there is a new version or your phone is in the latest firmware...

I think better you try to use Odin rather than using Kies to flash the rom.it more user friendly and straight forward.
The only official gingerbread version for Bell Canada is UGKG3 (2.3.3) that came out in the summer of 2011.
If Kies says your phone can't be updated, you must have quite an old version of Android installed.
Well i am with ICS 4.0.3 but i really wanted to go back with official roms to get update via kies to try something with Bell TV, but that just optional, i tried some roms, but kies was not detecting em. so i went back to ICS (but it's really unstable imo)

Since you've already gone to ICS, you may as well just download the UGKG3 ROM and flash that with Odin and forget about Kies.
If you want Kies to get you to a Bell ROM, you'd have to go back to Bell's Froyo release (again using Odin) and then let Kies update that to UGKG3.
Dear folks
When Samsung released their ICS update I was so exited but it wouldn't update mine since mine has csc lux so I had to wait till they released it for my country.
So the German version came online and I used PC Odin to get my phone to ICS with the German release. (So I flashed it? New to this)
Now I'm assuming that ICS is out for my country OTA or with Kies. So I want to use one of both to upgrade my phone so I have the stock and don't risk anything.
So you've probably seen the question coming, how do I get back to stock GB so I can update it afterwards with Kies or OTA.
Please take note that I'm a complete newb in this.
Thanks in advance!
You will have to use PC Odin to go back to stock Gingerbread.
Go here to find your stock rom for your country and download it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
You probably had to Odin to the ICS version you are on now, so if you remember how you did that, it's the same thing in Odin.
After you have that stock Gingerbread you should be able to check for updates and get your official OTA or Kies ICS.

So country is what my csc says right? Cause I bought it in Belgium (where I live) but my csc says lux
You *must* flash a safe kernel first, reboot the phone again into download mode then you can flash your old GB ROM.
If you don't do that, you can trigger the emmc bug in your current ICS kernel and fry the internal memory, unless you're using a CM9-based kernel then you're safe.

Can i Just flash s stock GB?

Hi Guys
Sorry if this question has been answered before, but i did try and look for an answer but had no luck. Unfortunely I do have abit of a strange situation.
I updated to an offical Australian vodafone (my provider) ICS rom (GT-N7000B version) through mobile odin a while back from a XSA (AUS) GT-N7000 GB rom. Since i used mobile odin i was able to pass root through to the new rom which was great.
Since the release of JB has come out I am wondering since I know about the brickbug etc, how will I update my phone to JB since i am on a stock ICS kernel? As it was to my understanding I cannot flash anything on a stock ICS kernel due to the flash bug?
Can i actually use pc odin on a stock ICS kernel and flash over the top to JB or will I have to re-flash GB or ICS GT-N7000 model rom and then use a safe kernel to flash to get clockwork mod and then go over that to get to JB?
Any advice?
If you want just stock, i.e. no root or anything, just go back to gb and flash official JB through PC Odin.
Alternatively, you could also straightaway flash official JB through PC Odin.(Not recommended)
