If you are rooted with cwm, flash some froyo based roms (recommendation to topogigi`s one). If not or you want all stock, use smartflash to flash froyo firmware on. Google for v10 firmware download links in smartflash format. Is there some particular reason for downgrading?
Yes i am unable to unlock my phone nothing seems to work and i have been told to try to unlock it on 2.2

Hey guys,
Rooted, installed ClocksWorkMod Recovery and changed the kernel to Voodoo. My GPS never worked before and after these changes and have tried every software hack/trick/tweak I have found on the net so I am forced to send it off to Samsung for repairs. Now I need to put everything back to official standards so my warranty won't be voided. My questions are as followed...
1. If I use the 1 click odin to install stock 2.2 Froyo will my kernel also go back to the official kernel? Will the recovery go back to normal? If not then...
2. Can someone provide a link to where I can obtain the official I897 kernel so I can re-flash it myself as well as some suggestions as to how I can put the official recovery back onto the phone?
Thanks!
Odin flashes you to stock. Stock, stock, Stock. everything stock
Why would you want to go.backward to stock when there are so many awesome roms out there. Your time would be better spent rooting and using Continuim, Paragon, Firefly, or any other 2.2 rom? Odin willbget you back to 2.1. From there you can do what you want after you root and install cwm.

Helllo there,
i recently installe Stock 2.3.4 XXJVQ having only used odin for the first time, however i like the idea of having a new ROM on my phone whenever i like, firstly...
My galaxy s has no custom rom, cm7, custom kernel or anything like that, it is completely stock, what is the safest and quickest way to root 2.3.4 jvq and start installing custom ROMS.
Also i know that if i (somehow) manage to brick my phone i can just install XXJVQ stock again, but ive seen various threads which say they have just installed a new rom and bricked their device and now they cant get into recovery or download mode, how does this happen and is this common?
Thanks.....

read all the FAQ`s, and forum rules for a start point, this will give you the confidence to proceed, if you follow instructions from whatever thread you chose to use then generally you wont have any problems, the sgs is very hard to kill, but it is a learning process so do the learning and start simple with maybe just a kernel flash and all should be good, it takes time to learn so dont rush anything
Thanks, also what are GB bootloaders? And If I'm currently on jvq can I flash cm7 recovery onto my phone without changing any of the kernels? I'm on gingerbread so will I still have froyo bootloaders?

If you flash a kernel then you will gain root and recovery, keep reading, I'm trying to save you from a sticky situation! It is worth the endeavor

So i've done a little flashing in my time but I don't want to screw this up. KieS doesn't seem to recognize my phone with the leaked Gingerbread rom, so I figured on either flashing back to stock 2.2 then using KieS, or just flashing straight out of Heimdall or Odin. If I just go with the Odin/Heimdall flash, will I need new bootloaders or will the leaked ones work with a comparable ginger ROM (my instincts tell me this will not be an issue)? What about the leaked modem vs. the Rogers modem? Any thoughts on the best way to approach this?

Just use Odin/heimdall. No need for new boots.
Hi,
I have an AT&T captivate android galaxy S smart phone. I was running 2.2 root. Today I am trying to put gingerbread 2.3.3 on and ran into problems, don't think I have the right files!
I now have 2.1 on the phone.
Model number
I897
Firmware
2.1-update 1
Baseband version
I897UCKF6
Kernel
2.6.29
Build
ECLAIR
build number under phone
10.06
Can you tell me how to get gingerbread 2.3.3 on my phone with instructions?
I do have Odin Oneclick Flasher, and Odin Oneclick Downloader.
The reason I don't use Kies mini and get the AT&T updated gingerbread 2.3.5 is because I did that with my husbands phone (same phone as mine) and we were NOT able to root it. I have read most everything around here and it seems that there are no possibilities to root GB 2.3.5 but I find things that say we can root GB 2.3.3.
Using SuperOneClick didn't work for GB 2.3.5 it was hanging on waiting for device I followed instructions I found on here about that and it didn't work.
Please can you give me a link to a GB 2.3.3 file that I can put into Odin Oneclick?
Thanks
gramme
You didn't read almost everything...rooting 2.3.5 is the same as any gingerbread...
You'll have to use the fugu kernel swap method.
Flash fugu kennel with Odin, that will boot loop.
Use button combos to boot back into download mode and flash a compatible kernel (kk4 most likely) once that's booted you'll be rooted.
Is there a way to update a Samsung captivate to 2.3 without a USB connection because my USB port on my phone doesn't work. Please help me and I charge my phone using a battery charger.

Nope...you need to flash bootloaders which can only be done in download mode, using a usb. sorry.
I think mobiletechvideos.com has replacement Ports

So?
everything still applies
Wow, that sounds great to me except I just did a search of this forum for fugu kernel and only got this post! Is there another forum I should look for that on or do you have a link for me to download that kernel?
Thanks again appreciate your time

fugu kernel
Hello
My Captivate is rooted running 2.2.1 Serendipity and I finally decided it is time to upgrade to ICS. I was wondering if I can go directly to ICS, or if I need to have Gingerbread first? Thanks.
I'm on ICS now! I just booted into recovery, wiped data and cache, and installed the zip, as simple as that.
That's odd. ICS requires Gingerbread bootloaders. are you sure your not running a Froyo rom themed as ICS?
No ICS does not require GB bootloaders...
Wow thanks for trying this. Someday I'll make the move from Froyo to something else and just assumed I had to update the bootloader. No need changing something that could brick my phone

Some ICS builds might require GB bootloaders but teamhacksung's ICS does not.
With that said though, you should probably go ahead and update anyway. There is an Odin one click that isn't any more risky than any other Odin flash. Flash the bootloaders, revert to stock if need be and then you are an the latest bootloaders and don't have to worry about it anymore.
