Whats currently the best 'stock' firmware? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been out of the loop on the Galaxy S for so long and I would like to ask what is the best current stock firmware for the Galaxy S ?

imo
XXJW4 stock firmware with xxjw4 modem is pretty stable
for daily use.
the latest one out is the XWJW6 with xwjw1, but of
course you can flash the modem of your choice.

I think JW4..it's really smooth and stable for me

[Q] The best ROM for my SGS

Hi all.
My SGS is very old but I don't have enough money to buy another smartphone so I must use it with the best ROM and settings. My problem is the battery!
I use my SGS to send same SMS, to call and to view FB and other web site (in generale internet)
What is the best ROM with the best battery and what is the best settings of that ROM?
Thanks
Try 2.3.6 xxjw6 official rom it's very stable and very good for the battery
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
XXJW6 doesn't exist Try XWJW6 with CSC and modem from XXJW4. Just download Odin 1.85 from XDA and firmware files (JW6 PDA, JW4 CSC, JW4 modem) from samfirmware.com
Good luck!
Re:
Hi,
I'd recommend an ICS ROM as they are more resource-friendly and don't use the CSC anymore.
Most of these ROM's have customizable governors that take "care" of your battery.
Hope this helps
I suggest you ICS 4.0.4 with xperia s style, very stable and good battery life. you can find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738492
remics is the rom you are searching for especially v1.3

Personally I think that AOKP (build 40) is the best ROM for the SGS at the moment. That's valid until there's a Jelly Bean release, I there'll soon be a version with working WiFi and stuff
aokp.co/index.php/releases/_/build-40-r26
I must recommend DarkyROM v11, a CM9 based ICS 4.0.4 ROM. it its stable, slick, very fast and smooth and has Semaphore kernel!
You will never switch roms anymore.....

[Q] What's the best kernel for S9000

Hi,
Iv'e installed Pure Galaxy ROM, and since then phone crashed all the time and 3G never works, and more issues.
Right now I have:
Android V.: 4.0.4
Baseband: I9000XXJVT
kernel: 3.0.8-g4577fdf
Build number: IMM76I
I'm not very into ROMs and kernels, I just need some directions on what's the best kernel for this phone right now. Something simple and that works
Thank you
If ur ready to change roms.. i would recommend SlimICS+ Semaphore 1.3.0, 100% stable, havnt had a single problem after install( a couple of months ago)

ok, just installed this to revert back, and now works as originally. To install semaphore, I place Semaphore_2.7.4.tar in the root of the sdcard, rebooted in recovery mode and used install from sdcard / update.zip and it says it can't find nothing...
Can I use odin or ezodin to do it?

.tar files are flashed with Odin, it seems you are trying to flash a gingerbread kernel on a ICS ROM, so go here and select the ICS kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795

tried with any of the semaphore .tar, the 1.2.6 and 1.3.0 (s or not) and always the same, once it reboots it stays forever with samsung logo, bbut wont go further.
Now I have:
Firmware V.: 2.2.1
Baseband: I9000XXJVE
kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build number: EZbase v2.00
how do I know if I must use gingerbread or other kernels?
thanks

It seems you have downgraded to GB 2.2, so just update it to GB 2.3.6 by flashing a JVU + Root from My Android Collections, link below, after which you can upgrade it to CM 9 ( follow directions of chosen ROM) and Finally to CM 10 ( follow directions of chosen ROM)
Remember to save your EFS folder before flashing any custom ROM

Why use non stock kernel?
What is your reason for installing a non stock kernel?
Special features or performance?
Or ...??

nice question...
I'm not very into this stuff, don't know what's stock or non-stock either just wanted to install something that works.
Since I've unlocked it, have been playing with ROMs and kernels but all of them have problems, either with the 3G, either with the Wifi
Right now it looks very similar to original samsung with the following:
firmware: 2.3.6 // Baseband: XXJVU // Kernel: 2.6.35.7 // Gingerbread
and everytime I try to connect to any wifi, it seems to be connected, but no access, no nothing (and the wifi router is working fine...)
any opinions out there?
(what's stock kernel, by the way)

If you want a pure stock ics, try a XXLRT. The german version, ,you can download it from sammobile.com . And flash it through PC-odin. For me it is the most smooth and stable stock ics rom. I have used it for about 3months without any problems or FC.

Although i flashed yesterday a 4.0.4 RocketRom v12 i advice you to try it its XXLRK very smooth very fast and tell me if you try it which is faster
Rocketrom or XXLRT
Thnx again mate

You have to know, that the battery save mode slows your phone. I try it o my stock XXLRK, and the result is that the phone is very laggy and slow.
Some people us it for longer battery life, but the price is a slow phone.

The base of RocketRom v12 is XXLRT, not XXLRK. RocketRom v12 is a great custom rom, with a lot of nice features. So it is a better choice than a stock rom if you want all nice features out of the box.
But I thought you wanted a pure stock ics rom
If you ask me which is faster My favorites 3 is:
3. Stock XXLRT - good stock rom, if you want it pure stock (used it for a long time)
2. Alliance Final XXLRT - great custom rom, if you prefer ICS, try it with HC 4.3b kernel, rock solid, and very smooth (used it since realeased, until the JB leaks become usable for daily use)
1. Alliance XXLSC beta1.1 - best custom JB rom, if you like JB. Working without any problems since it is realesed, with all fancy suff available from JB, and it is buttery smooth. (i liked it, because it has a option to flash it pure lite, without any samsung app, after flashing you can choose which one you want it back. It feels like you have your own custom rom. And it is just perfect)

The ics installed is LR8
this is the middle eastern and pakistan release. Its so much better, it beats most of the customs. Its the last releases so mostly fixed.
