Hey guys, i am currently using my stock ROM. I would like to give CM9 a try, but for what i heard, some featires still dont work on CM9, like camera for example. I wonder if there is a way to have BOTH roms installed, and choose between them on the Boot? Is that possible? How?
Yes. Install safestrap. Turn on safesystem, this will make a 'backup' of your current rom. Now install CM9. When you turn off safesystem, you will go back to your stock rom.
FWIW, it's not the same as dualbooting on a computer, where you can select the OS on start up. When you switch over, it takes a minute or 3.

Rocking with my M3 and XDA app
Has anyone tried the app multiboot or something in the google play store?
Sent from my XT860 using XDA
i saw this app you mentioned on the Play Store. It doen't list Droid 3 as a suported device, but lists Droid X and Droid 2. Has anyone tryed? the UI seem a little confusing, i am still hesitating to try, since my knowledge is small.

I'm on the fence as to if I should root my Droid. I'm getting the message to install the 2.2 ota and part of me wants to take it but I've been wanting to root for a while now.
How much benefit would I get using cm vs stock android?
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
since i'm getting all these views and no replies, perhaps I should clarify. As far as I can tell, the only thing that really interests me about rooting is the ability to run custom themes and change my boot animation and all that. I've heard that CM is faster than stock android so that's appealing as well, but not as much as the ability to use themes and stuff.
What say you?
if i were you i would update to 2.2 and use easyroot or universalandroot to overclock then wait for a better root to come out where you can load custom roms etc.
Download Universal Androot. Press Root. Then after the process is done, reboot your phone. You are now rooted. After doing so, download ROM Manager (Free version) and flash CWMod Recovery and then install CyanogenMod. Then, buy the Premium Version from the market and while that is downloading, use the App menu in settings to back up your apps to your SD Card after the Premium is done downloading. Go back into ROM Manager and download and install one of jdLfg's kernels. You now have a ludicrously fast phone with a ridiculous amount of themes for your ROM. And all of this will take about 15, maybe twenty minutes at most.
(No, you don't need to wipe to install CyanogenMod)

Wow, thanks. I had no idea I could do it all from the phone like that.
What's the advantage to the paid rom manager vs the free one? Does the paid have access to more stuff?
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Pay the few cents and support the dev. This such a useful you won't regret it. Makes and restore of of your ROMsnso much easier.
Sent from my Moto Droid using XDA App
I don't have a problem supporting the dev, I was just curious if there were additional features in the paid version. You know, to make it worth our while to pay.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I believe you have to have the paid version to download ROMs through the app.

@ L or anyone else who can help
I followed your instructions and the ROM manager wont work... should i not have already had 2.2 before doing this?
Universal Androot should have installed Superuser Permissions which should allow RM to install ROMs. If you are "stuck at M" flash SP then flash CWMod Recovery again and try to reinstall the ROM that you want.
And no, it does not matter which update you were running before you rooted. If the RM installs aren't working, then download which ROM you want from the internet and flash that.

Thank you that worked.
This is my current Nexus one:
Mod: Cyanogenmod 6.1.0-N1.
kernel: 2.6.35.9
My question is whether or not the camera upgrade was included in this mod? I can see that there is a difference, but I havent been able to see if I got the 720p camera or not. Anyone who knows?
I would say yes, you have 720 recording. To confirm, go to the video camera, select the top settings icon and scroll through the menu. 720 should be listed in the settings, under picture quality...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Im running 6.1.1
It has 720 option...but everytime i try to use the vid came...my phone crashes and reboots.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, it has 720p support.
If your phone crashes trying to use the video camera, make sure you are running a compatible kernel and radio firmware.
I flashed from Rom Manager
Kernal - 2.6.35.9
Everything else works perfect.

I'm assuming that's the kernel that came bundled with the ROM?
What radio firmware are you running?
The stock kernel is pretty good actually. Alternatively, you may try one of the latest Wildmonks kernel if you are having issues with the stock one.

You can identify your radio version by going to Settings --> About phone. It will be listed under "Baseband".
Kernels are flashed as .zips from recovery, just like a ROM. They won't wipe out any settings.
Thank you codesplice! You rock! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Alright so recently, the build of AOKP I've been using has been getting exponentially worse and worse. I decided to do something about it, so I downloaded the newest version of Safestrap and AOKP, installed the new Safestrap, and then did all that other fun stuff. I boot into recovery only to find that the menus don't show up no matter what I do. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Safestrap and also rebooting the phone multiple times. Anybody know how to fix this?
Sent from my XT894 using xda app-developers app
There are different versions of safestrap. One for running with stock GB and one for ICS. You should update your stock system to ICS first then use safestrap 2.0.
Forgot to add that I'm on ICS already, sorry about that.

If your on custom rom dont use appzorter they are in conflict with each other. To organize your apps in custom rom use its own setting, you dont need appzorter. Appzorter is an app for stock rom.
Just took appzorter off rebooted phone and now I'm missing apps.....it is strange!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Check if the apps were hidden by the launcher
Yep no hidden apps...when I use the stock launcher to organise the apps some disappear put when I use appzorter the missing apps appear again...weird...

Hey guys, I know that not every rom is made for xt860 so Im just wondering, when I Installed minimoto it wouldn't connect to bell, It found it but then said my similar isn't compatible with the connection. I used to be on mav rom but out of nowhere it stopped working kept force closing my texting apps. I don't remember if installed a patch to get my connection working or something. Lol thanks if anyone helps me out with this. I've been out if the scene for awhile. Also can anyone confirm if YouTube, Facebook and guitar pro tabs work on ics? I also read ics has glitches with calling and mms. I don't have time to read through forums ATM so it'd be cool if someone could help me out with getting g this stuff installed. If I absolutely need to edit the build.prop to get it working then ill do that. If you can call, text and use Facebook and the ultimate guitar app then I want to switch to ics. Thanks
Tl;Dr: I don't get a connection on custom roms anymore and used to be able to

Which patch? AFAIK data isn't working for xt860 on jb. I haven't tried myself, as I prefer stability and battery life.
