[Q] Steps needed to flash another stock ICS!! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There ,
I would like to welcome myself to the xda-developers , i have been exploring this forum for a while, honestly i am so impressed, this is the best forum ever
I think i wil learn looots of things from you guys ...i hope i can help out one day as a pay back ...love you..
My question :
1. i have flashed a stock ICS ROM and rooted it successfully ...
now i need to flash another stock ICS ROM..saudi arabia one to get arabic language ...how can i do that short and safe ?!!
Thanks in advance for your help , and please do make it short as i am not that technical :-(

First things first,
there's currently no 'short and safe' way to get stock ICS due to the Hardbrick bug.Read it carefully-when a dev/mod writes warning in big red letters, you pay attention to it.Although you may get a replacement from Samsung as all you did was flash a stock rom and as long as your binary counter is zero i.e. no 'yellow triangle' is displayed when you start up your phone.
For getting the Saudi Arabia ROM-use this

thanks
well..i have installed stock ics rom from a stock GB rom ...now i am confused should i downgrade to GB first or just use pc odin right away to flash this one as well?...
and thanks for the link ...but searching confuses me even more ...so many ways to flash.i need some that have succesfully done the same thing to guide me..

Newer the better !!
ICS is safe with a safe kernel(i.e. a kernel which is devoid of any wipe data bug Eg. All CM9 kernels, speedmod kernel, franco's kernel). If you wanna stay stock in ICS flash any stock firmware through ODIN and replace the stock kernel with a safe one. If you wanna custom ROM, there are many to choose from. Here also the same procedure applies. Any ROM with a safe kernel. so cheerios and Welcome to the ICS bandwagon. You can flash it over the same with a safe kernel also(I have done safe many a time) but it doesn't get hurt to flash into GB and to be back on ICS. A 33k Note is of more value than a time of ten minutes. LOL.
you can also read this thread to get more information on staying safe in ICS.

Thank you

Read, read, read. That's what sticky posts are for in android development.
There's a sticky in the development section that will tell you all you need to know. Just flash a safe gb or ics kernel before changing roms.

Hey, I also Will be getting my Note in the morning (just came from the HTC One S forums)
This hard brick issue worries me too. Is ICS official for the Note now ? And what are my chances of receiving it with ICS not GB ?
Is it as simple as you say ? Flash a safe Kernel then away I go ? I know how to use ODIN, Used it a million times for the SGS1, I just have this uncontrollable urge to use a custom ROM the moment i get my new phones lol, I'm not a big fan of stock to be honest.
Thanks guys ! Looking forward to being a part of this community
Only one way to brick your phone: Full wipe through CWM on ICS official and affected kernels, read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
Use Abyss kernel 3.9 - 4.2 for wipe.

[Q] What do I flash first, kernel or rom?

The question is really in the title, what do I flash first when upgrading from darky froyo to ICS, the kernel or the rom?
Thanks!

Follow instructions for the particular ROM you want to flash
They usually don't mention the kernel, only the rom :/

The kernel is pretty much always included in the.zip, if you want to change from the ROM kernel to another, then usually just a case of using a cleaning script, or manually clearing cache/dalvik and a couple of others (init.d & Ns tools usually) and flash away
upgrade 2.2 to ics
You have to burn GB stock-rom 2.3 with odin first !!!
after you finish you need gb kernel like semaphore 1.8 also burn with odin (give the stock root).
and finnely flash the ics rom you wont (with the dev Specific rom Guidelines)

Afaik you don't need gb bootloader to flash to ics, (see slim website) however it is a good idea to in case you want to revert to gb, but in that case it is easier just to flash the boot loader....see nitr8s ezboot thread
Hi, I know it's been a really long time of the thread but what I know ALWAYS FLASH THE ROM FIRST AND THEN THE KERNEL

[Q] How to safely update my phone?

Hello guys,
I wanted to ask how can i safely update my stock 2.3.6 galaxy note (rooted) to official ics rom? And keeping root?
I have mobile Odin but i don't know if it will keep root after flashing a stock rom with it and if i have to reset or anything.
Reason why i wanna update is cuz on the current version my ram is always between 400-500 which makes my phone lagg during games and even freeze.
You guys think updating to ics will help it? Or a custom rom?
Sincerely thanks!
Hi there,
The easiest way is thru mobile Odin. You need to download the official STOCK ICS (of your region, 4.0.3 or 4.0.4, depends on your region's availability on the latest firmware), second.. if it goes back to not rooted.. (if and if only), then try to root it back again.
Now once your in stock ICS already (4.0.3 or 4.0.4) and ROOTED. for your lag issue when playing games, you can go to chasmodo's thread (credits to the guy) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397 and download either the latest Notecore kernel from hardcore or Franco's R5 kernel.
Don't forget you can overclock your phone as well and after installing Franco's R5 kernel( Credits to GabrielMobileTech) on the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAieCsmVj2Q&feature=g-all-u
Hope that helps
Thanks for ur answer, But i read some post where they say Notecore takes alot of battery drain.
EDIT: And if i install a custum kernell it will bring up the triangle right? Can i remove it with the apk or need the usb jig for it?

Hi there,
NoteCore is optimize for gaming and for performance. I'm not sure though if it takes a lot of battery drain. You can try reading comments and posts from other users on the NoteCore's thread to confirm from them if indeed the kernel takes a lot of battery juices or not.
Regarding custom kernel and the triangle mark.. No it will not bring up the triangle mark at all. And yes, you can remove it by simply downloading and running ChainFire's TriangleAway app (you need root) to clear it out.
Don't forget to hit me a 'Thank' button if I've helped you one way or the other.
Cheers!

Best JB rom + how do you get there from stock ICS?

Hi,
I'm currently on stock ICS (4.0.4).
My phone has recently started occasionally/randomly restarting itself.
I've read that doing a factory reset or data wipe will result in a brick so was thinking of switching to a custom rom.
What's the best Jelly Bean rom? or isn't there a good stable one?
If not then what's the best stable/usable ICS rom and how do I get there from stock?
I know I need to flash GB via pc odin, but what after that?
There are warnings that say "FLASHING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK!"
I just wanna be as clear as possible. Would hate to have a brick.
Thanks.

JB roms are still in development and not so stable for daily use yet. For flashing custom ICS you do not have to flash GB rom, just flash safe custom ICS kernel and flash custom rom through cwm recovery.
You can also wipe your current rom after flashing safe custom kernel. No need to flash custom rom just because you cannot wipe on stock kernel
For my personal of view, liquid smooth jb v2.0 beta is the best at the moment.
If you on rooted ics. You can flash jb rom thru safe kernel such as cm9 kernel, gb kernel or notecore kernel.
But please read carefully and understand what noted at op and follow the installation method.
Good luck.

Have you guys got a link to an easy tutorial?
Thanks

Never Never Wipe on ICS as stated in op.
Now everybody knows JB is still under development and in preview. So I think you should have to wait for a stable version to enjoy the juice
For ICS you can try Cleanote v5,Kingdroid or RR for better performance and battery life
Here are the links :-
Cleanote v5 ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716088
Rocket Rom ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838
Kingdroid ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652831
Hope it Helps

Here is the best thread for rooting and flashing custom kernel on Note- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Once you are rooted and on safe custom kernel you can follow the instructions on your chosen custom rom OP.
In terms of safer installation method. It have too many of opinions around note forum. Some will say flash any rom or nandroid by using abssy 4.2 kernel, some will say not neccesary to use abssy 4.2 kernel with the secure and safe kernel exists such as notecore and speedmod kernel.
Some will advice you must go back gb before flash cm base rom and some will tell you totally bull**** and not neccesary to go back gb before flash cm base rom with secure tw kernel around.
Confuse? For me, all of them have the right opinion and nothing wrong with them. Thats your own smartphone which cost about usd 500. If you scare of something, just follow the long installation method. If you feel lazy to take do such of long intallation step, you can always use the secure kernel to swap in between gb, tw and cm base rom.
But anyway, is your own asset, your own choice. You are the one who will take full responsibility for doing any modification, rooting and flashing. Not anyone else here.
You can always refer dr.ketan advice.

I will follow all your advice when I'm ready flash the rom. Most likely tomorrow.
I would click the thanks button for you all but I am "limited to 8 thanks per day"

Simpler if you are on warranty and you can make use of it and off you don't want to flash or to scared to do a flash then wipe if the phone bricks you can send it on ssc for repair on warranty.

[Q] This is getting annoying!

Dear all,
I am running CriskeloROM Note ICS v10 on N7000XXLRB and am fed up with it.. :crying:
Tryed to flash it with chrack XXLRQ rom, Cyanogen and RocketRom v11 but no matter what i do it just wont flash?
It barely starts to flash, and then it restarts as if nothing had happened?
I tryed to flash a new kernel: AbyssNote kernel because that the author of chrack advices me to do so in his original post... And when i try to flash Abyss kernel, it stars flashing, and just hangs on "installing..."
Any ideas? ::crying:

try full wipe in cwmr if you are on latest safe kernels or flash pre-rooted GB rom (link in my sig) using pc odin and then start all over again.

First, be kind enough in appreciating the developers for the ROMs they provide.
Nobody asks you to install any of the ROMs they provide. Its you who use them. You get to use it for free but you neither be courteous nor thankful for the ROMs they provide you.
I never find any of the ROMs giving problems and all works charm. Use ODIN and downgrade to GB rom then use appropriate ROMs you wish CWM. Try to see Dr. Ketan's post on how to install a stock rom and later install Custom ROM of your choice.

Why do you attack the op? He hasn't done anything wrong. He is fed up because nothing works and he asks for help. What's wrong with that? Back to topic: I would try to flash a full wipe GB rom using pc odin. If it does not work flash a safe kernel and do a full wipe in cwm recovery. Then you can try again to flash your desired rom.

First step, don't desperate.
When u do desperate, u will do as what u write. Looks like blaming on the dev.
I agree with xda rocks, that all roms here is provided in a way free to use, with a lil bit donation or thanks only.
But the dev has tried their best to puke their rom in any means before releasing out. And the instruction of the flashing is based on testing experienced also.
I m sorry if u never mean to attack or disrespect the dev, but u make evryone think so with how u write in ur post.
Starting from saying u fed up with criskelorom, then blame on chrack for advising u to install abyss which end up not working for ur device.
I have no idea what tweaks and change have u done to ur phone, but always advisable to do a full wiping when u want to cross over rom, either by going back to GB first, or use a safe kernel on ICS. You may refer to dr. Ketan method.
I came from criskelo, change to stock rom, then change to chrack, then classic, now on chrash.
All rom is just fine.
Thanks to all the devs.

To antique_sonic & xda rocks: You guys got i all wrong. I am not blaming the developers for anything? And i am the first to say thank you for their hard work. What i ment was that i was fed up with the problem that I was having? there is / should be a huge difference...?
Anyways, thank you guys for defending the developers...

Good.
Glad to hear that. Coz i only feel the blame on ur first post.
But since u clear it up, lets just forget it.
And good luck.
Any probs just post back.
Remember to full wipe if u change rom.
I always do that, and come with no probs at all.
