Can any kind soul guide me as how to flash CF Root Kernel and CWM using Mobile Odin? Can't seem to find any instructions on it...
Btw the way i'm from Singapore & i'm on stock ICS rooted ROM XLP9. Any benefits from flashing the CF Root Kernel and CWM? Sorry i'm a nood...
& i find that rooted ICS on stock ROM on our Note not very stable. Now sms on driving node not working. It doesn't read out the sender's name or number anymore, but on others like calls & alarm it works. & a lot of apps after restoring using Titanium Backup, they dun work anymore. When u click to open the apps or games, it will hang for a while on a black screen followed by an error message after a while saying "Unfortunately the "name of app or game" has stopped. Then i have to click "ok" to continue... Any one experience all these after update to ICS???
A lot of t imes when i click on an icon to open the apps, it doesn't respond till i waited a while try again then the icon can be clicked to open it... Seems like everyday having new problem with the ICS ROM...
you say that your device is still rooted, so first of all you must buy mobile odin on the play store, then you can download the kernel here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 and flash it with mobile odin

You can flash CF Root with Odin on your pc but that will increase the flash counter and show a yellow triangle when booting. Or as Vampireblood above already stated buy Mobile Odin Pro from the playstore and flash it with that app.

Place the downloaded cf root kernel on you external sd card. Go to MobileOdin and select Open file, select cf root. Tick: EverRoot, Inject superuser, Inject Mobile Odin.
Then flash firmware, select wipe cache.
Done
How do i know i have install CF Root? I follow chainfire's instructions using already rooted.bat to install CF root fpr my LP9 Kernel. But after everything done, i go Setting, About Phone, my Kernel is still the old 1!
Worse is now i wann open CWM, after clicking on it, it opens & hang on a black screen... Mobile Odin Pro when open on screen keeps showing Loading... Checking SuperUser support, & it stays on that screen... Dunno what happen man...
Can i boot my phone into recovery mode & install CWM & SuperSU again?

k. am downgrading Firmware to KL3 , and i need procedure. but mainly it should not effect binary counter.
It's not possible to root LA4 directly at the moment, so you'll need to downgrade your device first:
- Download a firmware that's rootable from here.
- Download Odin from the link provided above
- Enter "Download Mode" on your device by shutting your Note completely off, then press and hold Volume Down + Home button + Power button
- Start Odin
- Unzip the firmware (the zip file you just downloaded), and you'll end up with a md5-file
- Go to Odin and click "PDA" and choose the md5-file
- Press "Start"
- Wait
- Done
Now you can root the device and get CWM, so go to this thread and do the "I Want ROOT + CWM" at the end of the first post.
- After you're rooted download LA4 again from the first link in this post
- Transfer it to your Note
- Open CWM on your Note
- Flash it
Done. You now have a rooted LA4.

No it won't.
Just make 1 thing clear. binary count raise only, If you flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC Odin.
Follow LordManhattan's advise and still once refer Installation guide in detail in post #2 n 3 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Just to add, Downgrade Firmware shud be direct rootable. (before KL7), N if particularly i specify, I can say Downgrade first to indian ROM KL1, I have flashed this ROM in at least 5 Notes.
That means Flashing Custom ROM using CWM doesn't effect Binary Count rite??
if you flash using CWM or mobile odin it wont if you do using oding from PC it will still not sure about official firmware

Yep, this is what I did after going through Dr. Ketans post. I now have rooted LA4 , but my CWM app and recovery is only partial. I do not have option to do backup/restore on CWM on LA4. Is it a universal problem? Any ideas?

Hey,
Dr.Ketan, can you tell me please if there is a chance to root the original LA4 (never changed rom) if I don't have access to a Windows and only to a Mac?
I only want to root it for the basic tweaks and apps. Don't need a custom rom at the moment. I want to root it and use it as is while I wait for the official ICS.
Thanks.
There is no Queston of window or Mac,LA4 is non rootable, to get root, first u need to downgrade older rom.

Thanks. I got ahead of the events. I didn't meant that. I meant if I can do the procedure of downgrading and everything I might need to do in order to root or to install a custom rom or another stock using ONLY my Samsung Note and a Mac.
Q1: I can downgrade using a exclusively a Mac with Lion on it?
Q2: If the answer to Q1 is affirmative, can I root it after downgrade also using only Lion on Mac?
Thanks again!
I have never heard mac pc odin. Plz google for it. So without pc odin you cant downgrade.
Yes there was review i read, got root with mac. You just read my thread how to root...(u may find from my signature), i remember i have post a link somwhere, how to root using mac.

Yes, I saw there was one root with mac solution, but works only if the Note is rootable. LA4 is not. So I must downgrade first. )))))
Nevermind, I'll try to do it with Windows, somehow. Thanks!
I am also new to this, and this thread is very clear. The bit I do not understand is what Kernal I should be running. Custom roms available can have a variety of kernals e.g LA3, LA4 etc. Do i have to choose a rom that has a kernal compatible with my phone? is there some rational to running one kernal vs another? I notice that it may be possible to flash a rom and keep a previous kernal e.g a CF kernal. is this advisable? your advice would be very welcome.
You don't need to flash a new kernel. Most of the custom ROMs includes a custom kernel that's good enough, but if you're interested in testing a few of them then you can do it without any problems.

Now is when I am lost. I did all the above (thanks, by the way) and I run KKA now. I had LA4 (Germany) when bought it, then downgraded to root.
Now I am rooted but when I try to update firmware with CWM, nothing happens. I have to put the ZIP in the Note or the MD5? I tried with the MD5 two times.
Is there something I do wrong? Is any other method apart from CWM? I mention that when I downgraded and first booted, CWM said something about "not being compatible and some functions were disabled".
Any ideas?
EDIT:
I couldn't work it out as expected and I went back to my original LA4 (Germany).

You always loose root after flashing stock firmware! Should have flashed it with MobileOdinPro.
If you want root again, downgrade to a directly rootable rom (all versions till KL7) and reroot it with CFRootIntitialFlasher by Chainfire, thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784

If I reflash KK2 would it keep all my stuff (contacts, apps, settings) or it will be as format?
Is there any other easier methods to root the LA1 or wait for it?
Iam new with Samsung and Odin, and read somewhere that mobile Odin will intact the 0 flashing (or something means that)
And also read that all flashing can be done via windows Odin (easier for me to deal via pc than mobile screen size)

No LA1 cannot be rooted directly unless you don`t care about raising the binary flash counter. I think KK2 is a wipe rom so yes you will losse everything on your internal disk, so copy the entire disk with windows task manager and put it back after you flashed KK2.
Odin can only be used with stock firmware, kernels or csc files, not custom files.
And try to read up about rooting, flashing and such things. There are threads enough around here.
Good luck

according to what I understood from you so far:
1 - I will reflash the Original stock rom KK2 by PC Odin
you said that KK2 will wipe my mobile and I should make a backup for my internal disk, So, Sorry to ask: what is this (windows task manager) and how to use it?
2 - I will root the KK2 same way I did last time
3 - I will flash the new update LA1 via Mobile Odin and it will keep my root and CWM
Does Mobile odin come in free or paid?

1. yes reflash KK2 using PC odin, I dont know wether KK2 is wipe version, if it is wipe, even you won't lose data on internal SD card, no meaning to take backup with window. If you want to backup your installed app + data, you must have Root.
alternatively you can choose non wipe version to reflash (e.g. KL3 india) it won't delete anything.
2. You have to Root Your relashed ROM (you can find how to Root guide on my signature)
3.Mobile Odin Pro is paid. Dont want to pay for mobile Odin Pro/ unable to purchase it, you can get Root + CWM, then update LA4 using CWM ( you may get installation guide link from my signature)
I will recommend to read all 4 links(first 2-3 post) on my signature, you will find answer of most of your questions
what if i tried to root my new ROM (LA1) using doomlord rooting kit, failed, and then downgrade it to KL3?
can i still use the doomlord easy rooting kit?
i tried this few times yesterday, but it still won't get rooted.
Ok, I reflashed by PC Odin my original stock rom KK2, and it was not wipe, I found everything is intact
But when I tried to root + recovery like before, did not work although I get on the screen (all done) but after reboot no root or CWM
I reinstalled Kies but still alot of errors when trying to do the rppt only or root+CWM
What should I do?
is there any way that I can wipe my phone and start as fresh as I can? what I did is :
boot to recovery and chooses wipe cache partition and Factory reset, it is all or there is something else can be done?
Edit : The wipe did it, and I have root and CWM now

If you can paste a file into the system folder then you have root. You need a root file manager like es explorer available free in the Market. You need to go into the setting of this program, enable root and allow write on the system folder.
I checked and my phone is rooted, when im trying to flash the kernel from cwm app it says zlmage not found.
Whar should i do?
Install a kernel using the odin?
Can u just extract zimage and flash it using mobile odin... pc odin wud increase the flash counter and even bring triangle with exclamation on boot screen...
OK, that's what i did,
i downloaded the r3 kernel zip, turned it into a tar file using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644240
flashed via odin and that's it. everything is back to normal, i can enter the recovery
By the way, that yellow triangle, i got it since my first custom rom, what that means? and the counter to?
Thanks for the help guys.
that means, your warranty has been voided if you show up to a service center with that yellow triangle. there are ways to remove, but that includeds re-flashing kernels and/or roms, removing the triangle notice (and flash counter) and doing everything from scratch.
search the forum.
I tried each and every thing to get full root but everytime I end up with that fu** partial root. Is there anybody who can guide me. I had tried following things till now :
1. Installed Factory kJ1 via pc odin.
2. Got full root access in KJ1 GB rom (tested by pasting a file in system folder)
3. Rebooted in recovery.
4. Installed Red pill Abyss kernel.
5. Did all the three wipes in red pill mode.
6. Installed Kingdroid Rom and s3 mod patch via red pill abyss.
7. Booted up in Rom and noticed a partial root.
8. Then flashed Chainfire 5.6 kernel via pc odin.
9. Used remove triangle apk ( succeded in removing triangle)
10. But still that partial root.
11. Then tried to flash cwm.zip via "update from sdcard" mode in CWM but failed to do so. It says no update file available.
12. Then installed the same file via "Select zip from sd card".
13. Did succeded in installing by this method then tried to install SU installer but CWM hangs at "unmounting system".
14. And guess what that fu**ing partial root.
I have tried many times the same methods but still no benefit.
I upgraded using Mobile Odin and I have full root.
When MO loads files, replace kernel with CF-Root 5.6 or any other safe kernel.
Hope it helps.

Then I have user the 1B option on XDA: PS : If you can't see superSU after flashing above file(sometimes happen if there is too low space like in LQ3 ROM, then use this Root_superSU, followed by same above Root_busybox file.
I have put the Root_superSU into the root and have reboot into recovery but after reboot there was some warning about change of something (have fortotten what was written:silly I have confirmed it and now (allready over 40 minutes) on the screen is standing:
ODIN MODE
Product name: GT-N7000

Current binary: Samsung official
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
What should I do now?

if not then remove the battery wait for 10 secs and reinsert. boot again
Go to original android subforum, get Philz stock kernel and flash that via recovery (read the instructions)
If you cannot go to recovery and is stuck at download mode, get a stock GB rom from Dr. Ketan's thread and flash via pc odin.
Hope you did not get bricked using that temp cwm and su files.

Good morning!
I have done it (the power off), and it has booted.
But many of the application icons are gray/black!?
What now?
Which is the next step? How to become again the colored icons and how to root?

EDIT: the gray/black icons are now in color, it seems that I have looked them before the Note has total booted.
The SuperSU app error: We have a problem! There is no binary SU instaled and SuperSU can not install it!
Which is the next step?
I will only to Root my Note without changing of official ICS/ROM/kernel, at this moment.
At least until I have more experience with Android. I'm using Android device for the first time.
go to this thread

download a kernel that matches ur ROM, reboot into recovery, install zip from SD, choose the downloaded file and install. Thats it really,
u will get root, CWM and safe kernel.
I don't see your version XXLPT / LQ3 under Philz kernel.
Try to update your stock rom first to those available under Philz Kernel.
Then you can flash Philz Kernel and get rooted immediately after flashing his kernel.
Good Luck!

Hi,
So you suggest that I should do the dr. Ketan's "1A.Root + safe kernel + advance recovery"?
Can I make it reverse - go back to the stock ROM/kernel if the Note must go to service, I do not want to loose guarantee.
How?
Where I can find stock ROM/kernel?
I have seen that there is noo XXLPT/LQ3 kernel.
Now I am confused what should I do. Which kernel from the list is suitable?
Step by step explanation/tutorial for a noob please!
then use Dr ketans rooting method.

Yeah. Philz kernel starts from 4.0.4 I think.
If you want the easiest way, and at the same time to get the latest firmware, go to the link given by nokiamodeln91.
Download either one of this :
N7000XXLRT---4.0.4/12.09.07-N7000DBTLRT---Download---Germany
N7000DDLR9---4.0.4/12.09.12-N7000ODDLR3---Download--India
That's the last 2 firmware from Samsung.
Download it, and flash it from ODIN PC (On the same thread by dr. Ketan, you can find also on how to install it by ODIN PC).
Once you are done, you may go back to Philz kernel thread, and choose the kernel.
If you flash the XXLRT, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-XXLRT-DBT-v2.7
If you flash the DDLR9, you can download : PhilZ-cwm6-DDLR9-INU-v2.7
and put it under your phone (external sd).
You may flash Philz kernel with your stock recovery. Just go to recovery, and apply update from zip file.
That's it. You will get root + safe kernel (safe from brick) + CWM v6.
By doing this, you won't get triangle. And you will get root, and also you will be on the safe state free of eMMC brick bug.
To go back to stock (if you intend to send for service), you can just flash back the original firmware. Everything will be back to normal (no root, stock kernel, stock firmware).
Please note :
DO NOT DO any wipe data until you get into PHilz Kernel.
OR :
if you don't want to go the hassle of upgrading firmware, and still want to stick to what you have now, you may refer to Philz kernel thread, and read post #6 (by dr. Ketan).
You can request your firmware installed on your device, and just wait for Philz to modified and put on the OP.
(but this takes time, you can't force him to modified for you on the spot)
Good luck!
