Rooting a hd 7 - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I go about rooting my t-mobile hd 7 for I can put a Rom on it.

Any help I just bought the phone new.

It a pretty easy process, just follow shadows tutorial here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
You just have to downgrade your spl, then flash rspl or hspl and then you can flash one of the custom roms available for the hd7!
Enter you hd7 into bootloader mode, power off, hold down the volume down button, power the device back on while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into bootloader mode a tri colored screen and it will tell you your device MID and your spl version. You can post your info from the bootloader screen back here and I can try and help you through the process or tell you the best route to go!
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!

By chance do you know of any stable, fast sense or nonsense roms that I could start out with?

Im running the Deepshining rom V7.6 and its a great, fast and reliable rom! I've had absolutely zero issues with it. Intrinsic rom and Nextgen rom are also great roms. I would check all three of them out and decide which one you want to use. If you flash hspl to your device you can re flash a different rom. very easily!

because if the numbers are the right ones, maybe you can install custom roms without the y-cable...

With a 5.xxx bootloader version on your T-Mobile HD7 you will have to use the Y cable/goldcard method to downgrade.
Unless you have a Pre-Mango Zune restore point saved on your PC.

what is about RSPL / HSPL?
I think that the links you posted are for the ones who have NoDo or below but I already have the mango final
easiest way to 'jailbreak' your WP7 device is with a Custom ROM.
check out the tutorial in my signature.
i already tried it but when I get to the step where I have to use task 00 I get an error..
but an another question is whether it is possible to flash original nodo over original Mango and if yes how do I do that?
I had Official Mango too. Used the same signature links last week and everything works. Win7 x64, HTC HD7

yes, it is possible to flash a pre-Mango Shipped ROM specific to your device, but only if your OSPL isn't 5.x

Well thank you for your reply!
I am absolutely confused!
I just want to upgrade to your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition.
So... following the instructions under your signature, first i am trying to downgrade to a different radio with HD7_RUUWrapper_00 (Ex. 1.20.531.01 or 1.54.531.02 or 3.01.531.02) but the bar on my phone stucks at 0.00% and then i have the error 262. tried different pcs and different radios.
Is it necessary to change the radio before doing that upgrade?
And is it possible to make that update via zune? (i mean to copy your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition files at some specific zune's folder and complete then the procedure some-how?
Thank you once again!

if you have Bootloader 1.54, you don't need to downgrade OSPL first with SPL_Signed.nbh
though, you'll need to XSPL before you can flash a Custom ROM or Unsigned Radios.
i do not believe it is possible to do that via Zune.
You bring up the configuration of your phone

I am HTC HD7 version 7.10.7740.16

Now I wanted to know...
A. How to firstly unlock the phone KEEPING the same ROM. (I don't want to flash any ROM)
B. What are the possibilities once I unlock it? What are the things I can do with this phone...
Primary reason to unlock is games...I want to play lots of games...
(In fact, am almost on the verge of selling it for it being so locked down.)
Any help...

you have the Asia WWE HD7.
ansar's SLSPL won't be able to be used, unfortunately.
only way for you to downgrade SPL, aka Bootloader, is to Zune pre-Mango (i.e. NoDo) restore, here or this here.
i don't know how to explain further, sorry.

as far as i know, (have been out of the game for a bit) with OSPL (aka Original Bootloader) 5.xx can't be downgraded while retaining the current OS. but it can be returned to a stock Shipped ROM, instead of a Custom ROM.

ok...random as this is...but if you really wish to go back...then here goes.
you require the htc drivers installed from htc sync.
the ruu you require is whatever u want...its advisable to reinstall the original from your area though...but your choice.
this wipes everything.....recovery, root everything....
ok have the ruu on your pc.
connect pc to phone
have phone in bootloader (possible fastboot usb)
phone may reboot itself into which ever mode it wants but its random as ive seen....i had it ready in bootloader and it worked
double click on ruu and follow instructions.
now it will or should install in around 10-15mins. if by chance you get installation error, follow the recovery part and redo the ruu again straight away....after a few attempts it will install.
what effect this will have on your updates to bootloader or hboot etc is unknown...as i haven't reverted to stock since unlocking bootloader...
Can i use this on the Salsa?? I think i got it from the galaxy nexus section..but will it work properly?

HTC Vivid Stock Rom 2.3.4?

I just bought a HTC Vivid, and before I start rooting and doing all that stuff, I'd like to know if anyone has a 2.3.4 stock rom. I want this because if I brick it then I will be able to flash it back, and I can't seem to find one. I've been searching all over, so if anyone has a stock rom it would be very helpful!
Thank you
I hope this is the right category, just registered
Just use this...if your bricked you won't be able to use recovery to flash a Rom...here is a ruu...its not gingerbread but it will bring you to official ics stock...http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe

Which also means that it'll flash the stock kernel, ROM, and wipe your entire phone. Remember to relock the bootloader before running the RUU if it's unlocked.

Getting your phone flashed to the ICS RUU will help you later when flashing custom roms (as I believe all of them are ICS-based)
The Superguide sticky thread in development can help you with the Bootloader Unlock procedure and many other things like rooting and prepping your phone for the S-OFF procedure (if you want to S-OFF your phone). Link below.
Unlocking the bootloader gives you permission to flash to partitions like your recovery partition (so you can flash custom recovery like clockworkmod etc.)
Once your bootloader is unlocked, RUU's will refuse to flash to your phone until you re-lock the bootloader. To relock your bootloader, power up the phone into HBOOT/Bootloader mode, choose Fastboot, then in a command prompt, run the command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
To confirm it worked, next time you power up the phone into HBOOT/Bootloader mode, you should see at the top of the screen **RELOCKED**
Then you will be able to flash an RUU via your computer (while having your phone in fastboot mode)
When you get to the S-OFF portion of the superguide:
If you DO want to S-OFF your phone, follow that section of the superguide EXACTLY. It has important steps for prepping your phone for the S-OFF procedure.
If you do NOT want to S-OFF your phone, note that whenever you flash custom ROMS, the kernel partition must be flashed manually via fastboot (either before or after flashing the rom - I don't think it matters if it is before or after - anyone know this for sure?). I think every ROM includes the kernel (boot.img) file inside the zip so you can copy it to the same folder that has your fastboot.exe so you can run:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Here is the superguide link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
Or use the toolkit...its easy and walks you through the steps of unlocking bootloader and rooting...it also has a relock bootloader option so you can relock it in a click of a button...
If your gonna use the ruu...use it before you even root/unlock.the bootloader...that way you won't have to relock it
Here's the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003

I am running 2.3.4 on my phone and looking to update next week when I get my new battery. Did you have any issues with your update? Are you running ICS now? Any advice?
Follow the user guides. It's not hard or long just make sure you read the guides so you can update the bootloader properly.
its impossible to get ahold of the RUU's for the vivid, i need the stock Bell one, seeing that i have a Virgin Mobile SIM, I'm still on GB and i want to update to ICS. already going through the process of returning to S-ON

There are some T-Mobile RUU's. Check the T-Mobile forum. Specifically this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496074
Me personally I would check to see what HBOOT version is on there and if it's lower than 1.57, go S-OFF before doing anything else. Then just use TWRP to flash a stock or stock-ish 4.4 ROM and never mind OTA's.

Thank you guys im looking further into it. Does the phone need to be rooted to flash a rom or just have the bootloader unlocked?
For kit Kat it needs to be s-OFF. Let's get that out of the way first.
And some s-OFF methods require a rooted ROM to work as I recall. So it's already getting complicated.
But a typical custom Rom doesn't *need* root, in fact after flashing you will discover it *gives* you root.
Going that route requires work and some reading. Then again, getting an RUU to run successfully does too.
Basically the situation you''re in is not horrible, but to go all the way forward (S-OFF Kit Kat with ability to do anything you want in the future) or all the way back (totally locked down stock system capable only of accepting OTA's ) will require work either way.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
So basicaly it may be simpler if I...
1 s-off
2 download rom
2.5 put on phone memory
3 go to team win recovery
4 Click install and choose said rom?
is that the basics of it?
if I want the least amount of trouble?
Also I guess what makes this most confusing for me is the non stock recovery
and to use fire water for the s-off I need to remove htc sync from the phone?
I feel im doing more work and stressing than i should be?
Yes Im quite Noobish..
Pretty much yes.
There could be adventures along the way, but I think this outcome would position you well for the future.
The biggest question is how old is your HBOOT.
There is no S-OFF for 1.57 and existing exploits for 1.56 don't always work.
If you can get S-OFF, you can do anything, including a) destroying your phone by mistake; b) changing your mind later and going back to S-ON; and, my personal favorite, c) destroying your phone in the act of trying to go back to S-ON (due to modified/ damaged HBOOT partition).
If you can't get S-ON, well, see if you can get back to stock.
Occasionally you are truly stuck and can neither go forward nor backward.
Which in your case is not so bad. 4.3 works great. Honestly plenty of people here are trying to go *back* to 4.3 after trying 4.4.
With S-OFF you can always do that. S-ON, not so much..
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Yeah.. now i have a pretty blue screen that once every 10 minutes or so will flash the google logo so yup bricked...
That would qualify as an "adventure". Still, it sounds like something less than "bricked".
See if you can enter HBOOT (hold down volume-down and power buttons for a few seconds or if you're in a boot loop , just hold down volume-down as phone is booting up).
If so, you can select fastboot and you should have the option to power down. That should give the battery a rest and give you time to think.
At some point you need to have the android tools fastboot and adb set up on your computer.
When you do, enter HBOOT, select fastboot (with phone plugged into computer via USB) and run the command fastboot getvar all.
Post the results here.
The first post of this thread doesn't really contain enough detail for others to help you otherwise.
