Guys, i know u can help. I want to flash my N1 to cyanogenmod 7, i know u can help.
I got stock 2.3.4 n1.
I can't unlock bootloader cause i have a broken powerbutton. After i typed "flashboot oem unlock" i need to confirm that by pressing powerbutton, but its broken so i think its not necessary.
So i rooted it with SuperOneClick
I installed ROM manager, backup my stock ROM, than flasing clockwork recovery After reboot i open ROM manager, tapped to install ROM from SD card, choose ROM from SD and rebooted. And now i see only a pic with android it center and yellow exclamation mark. Google says that i have a wrong recovery or wrong installation of clockwork recovery. I waited for couple hours and then get battery off. Now phone boots fine, works fine but i want to flash cyanogenmod. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Before flashing the custom rom, it is recommended to first flash a custom brain. This one seems broken .
You need to have a unlocked bootloader. You cannot do without.
First of all i searched a lot, read a lot here, and i have brains.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Nexus_One/Guides_%26_Tutorials#Flashing_custom_ROM
Here i see:
All i need to flash any ROM is root access, so I can root my phone with unlocking bootloader or use something else
i chose this:
PHP:
Root without unlocking the bootloader.
XDA developers found ways to root the phone without unlocking the bootloader, i.e. without voiding the warranty.
Easy 1-click solution - SuperOneClick
I root my device, install ROM manager, flash custom recovery, reboot.
I want to flash cyanogen mod following instrucions, but its stucks.
Asking again WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Apparently you don't have any brains at all. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. NO FLASHING WITHOUT UNLOCKING. Root does not matter at all! NUFF SAID
Ok, i see.
How can i unlock bootloader without power button?
As i used search i read that its impossible to unlock bootloader, but its possible to flash cyanogen without unlocking it, just root need.
Sorry if i wrong.

You pretty much out of luck if the power button is broken
you dont have to unlock bootloader for flashing roms. just rooting is enuf. i recommend to use 4Ext recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419813
install the app and then install recovery.
backup current rom
place new rom in sd.
boot into recovery.
wipe all partitions except sd x3 times
install zip(rom) from sd
reboot n njoy ur new rom

Ok, it says my phone has root access.
Can u tell me step by step what i need to do to flash cyanogenmod now?
I installed Clockwork Recovery by Rom manager, but it wont install properly as i think cause if i want to reboot to recovery i se only a yellow exclamation mark in triangle and green android in center.
How to fix this now?
i would recommend you to try 4EXT touch recovery. currently its the best. i have provided the link for that in my previous post. or you can get it from www.4ext.net
also i have mentioned the steps in my previous post. if u still got doubts, feel free to ask buddy

Download the cm7.2 stable ROM from CyanogenMod. Check the md5 to ensure it downloaded correctly.http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=passion
Copy it to the root of your SD card. Boot into recovery (recommend 4ext). Wipe all except SD card. Flash the ROM. Reboot.

Forget to mention. If you have loads of apps then you might want to format your SD card and partition with a ext4 partition around 512MB/1GB . Do this using 4ext recovery before you install the ROM.
Of course you need to backup your SD card first if you want to restore media like photos and music. Use titanium backup to backup apps which you can restore later. Install s2e from market to utilise your ext partition once you have the ROM installed

I need to use 4EXT Recovery Updater or 4EXT Recovery Control?
Nevermind it, already installed 4ext recovery control and following instructions installed 4ext recovery touch rc5.
Now i'm going to start flashing. I'll tell u my results.
upd: nothing new. got triangle with yellow "!" inside when trying to boot to recovery, may be i need to flash though 4ext recovery control?

I chose "Online update" in menu, then chose 4ext_recovery_touch rc5. It downloaded successfully, then install something.
After that i got a message:
"New version Recovery successfully installed. Archive with recovery.img saved on SD card: download/4ext_recovery_touch_v1.0.0.5_RC5.zip"
May be i realy have no brains, and i need to install recovery from this .img?
so it seems 4ext recovery is installed successfully. but buddy u cant just fastboot recovery.img file cos ur bootloader is locked.
hw are you trying to enter into recovery? from the options in 4ext recovery updater?

I rooted my Motorola Milestone with Super One Click, then installed ROM Manager. I did flash CockworkMod recoveries but I could not do the backup or installation of new Custom ROM. The phone always was back to the screen with the yellow exclamation inside the white triangle. If I use VOlume + Up button, it will appear the recoeveries with four options: reboot system, wipe data/factory reset, apply update.zip and wipre card partition with the info: E:cannot open cach/recoveries/command. I did try to apply updated.zip but it failed and say that it cannot verify the signature and installation aborted.
Could you please help? Thanks

Dude, ROM Manager does NOT work on Milestone. You need to flash a Vulnerable Recovery using RSD Lite, install Androidiani Open Recovery, go from there:

Thanks, dude. In the list of ClcokwordMOd, i find out there is a row for Milestone. Click on it, I also am able to download a file of Recoveries which is specific for milestone. But it does not work.
One thing I would like to raise here is that after i cannot use update.zip any more. Cuold you please explain why? It also says "cannot verify signature"
Thanks
Because your phone does not have the vulnerable recovery installed. Look at the link I posted. It has everything you need to get up and running. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

The Milestone mentioned in ROM Manager / clockworkmod is probably the Alltel Milestone, which in reality is a droid 1.
Now that you have installed cwm, you have to remove it from your phone and then install Androidiani openrecovery. Before that you need to install vulnerable recovery from here using rsdlite.
Note that it may take more than one try to get cwm out of the system.

What did you end up doing after it hung for an hour? Because if you haven't flashed a custom ROM, you should still be able to boot (rooted) and you can try the Nandroid backup again.

I take the batterry out of the phone and restart it again. It works normally but the backup is not done because i do not find out the backup under Openrecoveries folder. I did try the second time but it happed again and i had to take the battery out of the phone and restart.
please help
I actually had the same mistake as you before (using ROM Manager on our Milestone).
I recommend this:
1. Backup your SD card content
2. Reformat your SD (slow format)
3. Place the AOR 3.3 (Androidiani Open Recovery) files back in (use a fresh download if possible)
4. Perform Nandroid backup again
Note that there will be no "backup" content in your OR folder. Instead, you will see a new "nandroid" folder in your sd root.
Thanks dude. I find out the solution. I wipe all data + cache, then I download a fresh recoveries and then i did the backup again. It works well.

You should not use ROM Manager to do the backup or flash for Milestone. please use Open Recovery 3.3. Download it and please delete CWM folder also. Please wipe data/facotry reset for doing backup or flash. (IMPORTANT). It will work.

Are you s off? If you are not s off then you can't flash kernels through recovery...you will have to fastboot flash them.
When you flash a kernel with oc abilities it will be set to a default speed by the dev that made the kernel...so no you font gave to set your CPU speed...but you can...
Before you flash anything you will have to wipe data cache and Slavic cache from with in your recovery
Before flashing a Rom it is wise to flash its kernel before hand through fastboot...unless your s off...if your s off then wipe and flash
As long as your on ics then your on the newest hboot

So witch files in the kernel and Rom do I move to the root of Sd ?
And let me see if I have this right ,
Go into h boot , wipe the 2 catch you mentioned , then do the recovery , then install the files from the kernel then the Rom files before booting ? Is that correct ? And I guess cwm will kinda walk me thru it ?
I also downloaded flash image GUI if needed , Im not sure if I can do it all with cwm or if I needed both .

Alright...you just need the zip, do not extract it, leave everything in the zip
Don't wipe anything from hboot, just boot into recovery and you will see the options to wipe
Once wipe is done instal zip...it can be on external sd or internal...if you put on exterrnal ad then choose install zip from sd card/external sd if its in internal then choose install zip from internal storage
All you need is cwm since your s-off

When you install it from sd, it will run a program similar to windows install wizard I guess...it gives you options on what you want, you just choose yes or no.
Don't worry about the questions, your new...better to ask a lot of questions and get it right the first time then to not ask enough questions and get it wrong...
So,
1)get the DarkRaider_1.5.5.zip on your phone
2)Boot into recovery
3)From within recovery wipe data, cache and dalvic cache
4)Install zip from internal storage/or sd card
5)Locate and choose dark raider
6)From there it will open the installer (aroma)
7)then just keep going through aroma until it let's you install
8)reboot and enjoy

Hmm...its strange you lost cwm after dark raider...yeah I would download and reflash it...
And as for the WiFi not working, thats a common symptom of a bad kernel flash...here's what you do, with some sort of zip/archive program browse the dark raider zip and extract the boot.IMG (you can use the app "es file explorer" from play store...its free
Once you have boot.IMG extracted flash it with flash image GUI or vivid toolkit...
If WiFi still doesn't work then reflash the Rom
Or you can just download a kernel of choice and flash it in recovery (I have kozmikkernel on my vivid)

Hello
I finally got bored with my phone and decided to try some custom roms. Im not new to flashing roms but this was my first attempt with the vivid.
I unlocked my bootloader and s-off my phone using the Juopunutbear trick. I updated the hboot and perm-rooted the device. I did this all following the superguide instructions.
This is where I think I messed up. I tried to use the rom manager to back up my phone and install cwm which im thinking i shouldnt have. I installed the app and hit flash clockworkmod recovery. I got confused on what to do after that.
I can boot into the phone fine with no issues but I can not hboot into recovery it just hangs on the htc white screen.
I dont know where to go from here. can i salvage this process or step back in someway? Also did I install cwm or not complete the process or was it already installed as part of the superguide perm root instructions? Im a little confused on the whole recovery part.
Thanks for the help
Either flashimagegui from the themes and apps thread...
Or manually fastboot flash recovery *image name*
I recommend twrp...
Easy way to get it..
Download goomanager from the market... Open... Grant root...
Hit the menu capacitive button... Choose install openrecovery script...
Download it... Trying to flash it with goomanager is broken... Use either method mentioned above

Thanks for the reply. I ended up re-rooting the phone(Step 4 superguide) and that gave me access to the recovery menu again.
Yeah, don't use rom manager it's old and outdated
I rooted my phone yesterday and tryed to install cyanogen 10.1 for android 4.2.2, however instead of putting the zip file in the sd card i had put the extracted files, which was a big mistake, as i had wiped out data and then booted as i couldn't find the rom (i am practically a noob since i was doing all this following a guide but i had mistaken zip files for extracted files). Now when i install rom manager it is hard for me to flash anything as it gets stuck in the screen that says "reboot from sd card" or something like that and when i press ok, it gets stuck in that screen, can someone tell me how to install the rom, im thinking of installing probam
can u also tell how to go into recovery manually, i have clockworkmod recovery (5.x.x i think)

You really don't have to be this rude. We all know that it's annoying to see these threads every two days but that's not an excuse for breaking the rules.
For OP: Search the Forums for Root, Bootloader Unlock and Custom Roms. You should read everything before trying something to prevent damage or you'll probably create a "I bricked my phone! Help!"-thread in two days
The key combo for recovery is vol down + power and release power when LG logo appears or it will reboot (a one minute search for "manually access cwm", just saying)

OK in order to flash custom rom you are required more than rooting.
those are the stages you must fulfill in order to flash :
1- Root :as u say u already rootd " u can check if u rooted properly or not by root checker.apk at play store"
2-Unlock bootloader :you can choose between any ways i prefer two ways 1- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263627
b- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224020
"you can check if bootloader unlocked properly by hiting 3845#*880# then bootloader then checkbootloader the unlock " u should see this "
3- flash custom recovery : i prefer CWM through that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298420
4- Flash to custom ROM : a- choose ur ROM ,download it as zip file - download Gapps if u like b-put them in to sd card and boot in recovery " power + vol-" choose to install zip file - install first the ROM then GAPPS " optional " - DON"T FORGET TO WIPE DATA AND CASH " after installation to be stable
if he wipes his cash , please call me get some because im low these days

After that I copied stable cm 10.1 gapps on my sd card then I tried to install the zips, everything seemed ok..I restarted the phone and it went straight to recovery mode. I did the same thing with the android 4.4.2 MoKee and happend the same thing. What should i do?

I had stock JB and I had this program in menu "Software update" and it was an 19-25 mb update..I downloaded and I installed the update then the phone rebooted and it went in cwm recovery. If I install a custom rom everything seems ok, after reboot it enter straight to recovery and I don't know why.

If you set up working stock JB follow this:
*prepare custom ROM, kernel and Gapps then copy to SD
*if you want CWM download this: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-p880.img, then copy *.img file to a folder where adb is installed and rename it to recovery.img
*boot to fastboot mode (adb reboot oem-unlock)
*install recovery in fastboot mode (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
*power off, then boot to recovery
*flash ROM, Gapps and kernel

I recommend you not to use this kernel, it is deprecated. Try without flashing different kernel first. Which CWM did you download? From link I gave?
EDIT: Have you done formats of /system, /data, /cache ?
You bugged out your device. OTA doesnt work properly with custom recovery installed. Reflash kdz to fix the issue, but try grabbing everything you need from via adb from recovery first as you may have to do hard reset from stock recovery which will format your internal sd (in case you dont know how to flash custom recovery via fastboot)

You can reflash or put phone to stock state with using lgmobile support tool. Just put phone in S/W mode (volume down and USB cable plug in) and in dropdown menu select update recovery

yes, you can. the bug you encountered only happens when you use OTA with modified stock firmware.
good luck :good:

Ok, I got it. Thank you! One more thing, I swear it! When I try to root my phone (I follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502 ), the SystemBackupTest doesn't work, I googled the problem and I found nothing.
