i was trying to test all the 2.3.4 roms nd now my phone wont go past the white htc screen even when i restore 2.3.3 help?
If it turns on it's not bricked
Re-download a rom zip, boot to recovery, wipe everything, then flash the rom
(assuming you can still get to recovery [HOME+POWER] since it wasn't mentioned)

i can get to recovery but when it says that i sucessfully flashed the rom then i go to reboot system it just stays at the white HTC screen idk wat to do my nandroid wont even work now its doing the same thing i have no clue what i did wrong?
are you using firerat's?
wiping before restoring nandroids/flashing a new Rom?
what recovery are you using?
what rom is your nandroid?
have you tried to re-download the rom you are flashing? (the one that stays on the HTC screen)
How long is it staying on the HTC screen?
do you have adb installed?

just FYI, next time you ask for help you should post some of the answers to kyouko's questions without anyone having to ask. we can't help you as well if we don't know these things.
I put 5$ on the ROM he was flashing uses an uncapped kernel...
3 letter word; RUU.
Start from scratch and be careful what you flash before you flash it
Happy flashing buddy. Be careful!

Maybe you just need to let it sit on the HTC screen for a while longer to see if it finally starts booting up. Sometimes it can take a couple of minutes. Try not to watch it, if you can.

So this is just a question as I was browsing through the rom manager program I noticed the HTC Holiday is now listed in their devices.
As I have been researching this phone I believe the phone was referred to as the HTC Holiday
Basically my question is, Is this the device to select or is it referring to an OEM or pre release handset or is it the same as the AT&T Vivid.
I hope that made sense, if not please let me know and I will do my best to make my question more clear.

It is the same phone but I don't know that anyone has used ROM Manager with it. I never used it on any of my other phones because I found it too buggy.
This is the first I have heard of it being listed on there.

I believe it is added as of today, I personally have loved rom manager though I understand your reasons for not liking it. I just want to confirm it is comparable with the AT&T device before putting it on and flashing what ever version of clockwork recovery it has to offer.... (I bought my phone at an early upgrade price so $350 makes me quite a bit cautious with it....)
I just loaded the recovery labeled holiday and you get stuck at the HTC boot screen. Going back to the recovery from the sticky. A later update might fix it.

Its probably obvious but your best bet would be to either get a friends phone to charge your battery or buy an external battery charger....
It's working for me
I have the Vivid and downloaded Rom Manager on a whim. Saw the Holiday, selected it. Tried to backup the Att rom, failed - needed cwm installed. Chose option to let RM flash CWM. The version it put on caused RM to puke when attempting to backup. Flashed CWM v5.0.2.7 from PC. Rebooted and mysteriously lost root. Had to pull the battery a few times during all this.
Rerooted using HTCSupertool, and RM has worked just fine since.
So some flakes, but when ironed out seems OK.
I did a nand backup and a restore just to be sure I could get back and both operations completed without error.
Waiting to get full charge on the phone then will flash first custom rom.

So, to avoid bricking my device I relocked the bootloader, used the stock RUU file and upgraded to ICS.
Worked as a charm.
Installed a custom ROM, worked fine.
Installed another one, was great.
And then I changed to Dark Raider (link) and after installation completes my device goes black entirely. I can access CWM Recovery and everything but not the bootloader menu or anything else.
No matter what other ROM I try to flash, it doesnt work, and I can't get RUU going because I can't access flashboot.
Any ideas?
Which kernel did you flash? Did you do any other steps before or after installing the last ROM like factory reset, etc. Just trying to brainstorm some ideas.

I flashed the boot.img as usual that comes with the ROM, then did all the wiping they say we should on the main thread, then flashed the ROM.
What is really weird is that this is something I've done countless times before and never had any trouble. Even on ICS.
Oh and the device is still recognised by the computer, although not by the RUU file itself.
CWM Recovery works just fine but nothing else.
How are you getting to cwm? Normally you only access it through hboot. Are you doing the button combo?

When I plug it in via USB, it automatically turns the phone on into CWM.
It's just like when they had that bug on CWM Recovery that wouldn't let us charge our phones when they were off without automatically going into Recovery.
I just want a way to make the RUU file recognise the phone so I can go back to stock. Anyone?

What exactly is that developer menu?
Because I've been everywhere in Recovery and can't seem to find Reboot into Bootloader. I find Reboot Recovery alright, into the Advanced options, and several ++GO BACK++s that leads me to nowhere. I keep pressing it while on the main screen of Recovery and it just blinks the screen and that's all.

By plugging in my phone into the computer via USB. It automatically goes into CWM Recovery.
I always try to follow the most up-to-date topics but rooting HTC Vivid on ICS was a bit weird and I used a tool I randomly came across with and had never used before, some SuperToolv3 or whatever it's called.
I was trying to flash the stoc AT&T ROM via .zip but apparently I can't access my external sd card via CWM due to the sweet fact that apparently iGo created a ext_sd folder by itself, and when I try to access the external sd card it goes into iGo's useless folder.

Unplug it from the USB. Pull your battery out put it back in. Then with it still unplugged from USB press and hold the volume down button while simultaneously holding down the power button. Keep holding them both down for a couple seconds then hboot should load up.

Yes, I do know how to get into hboot.
I press both buttons and nothing happens.
The RUU file was the 1st thing i tried, but it doesn't recognise the phone since it's not on the mode it should be for using the RUU.
Grrrr. And I'm not even in a country where this phone is sold so I really can't see how I'll get this fixed.
Well, I'm not THAT noob. I know how to do most things. I've played around with this phone for a few months now and never had a problem with it.
I flashed the kernel properly and then I flashed the Dark Raider ROM the way I always do. Do you think is there any possibility that this was caused by Dark Raider?
I couldn't've done anything wrong. I never did. I wouldn't wait months of practice to finally screw anything up now.

And it's funny 'cause a guy in the other topic (I kinda think it's the ROM's fault so I posted there as well, maybe the dev has any clue) told me I should plug the phone in and try to get into hboot.
Well, I tried just for the hell of it and obviously didn't work.
Every time I plug the phone in either to a charger or a computer I'm taken straight to CWM Recovery. Like that old bug it had that we couldn't charge the phone off without going into Recovery.
I left it in Recovery but I'm not sure if it's charging, the battery wasn't that low but after all this time it probably is now, so it doesn't hurt to leave it there.
But, like, if this was a complete brick I wouldn't even be getting into Recovery, right? And the computer wouldn't be recognising it.
Isn't there a way to access the internal memory of the phone through the computer? I'd like to try one last thing but iGo created a ext_sd folder inside the phone and now when I try to access the REAL external SD i'm taken to the iGo folder.
And I only saw that now.
Or maybe a way to make the phone recognisable by the RUU .exe file?
Apparently a series of unfortunate things led me to this.
A friend of mine tried to root their Vivid using Z4 Root and it appears they were not successful.
The phone is now stuck on a black screen with a green down arrow with a circular green arrow formation around it. http://s13.postimage.org/82qs23ezr/photo_1.jpg
Can someone please give me some guidance in fixing this phone.
Thanks
Relock your bootloader first!
Download the official ics ruu for the HTC vivid. Pull the battery , place it back in and go into bootloader mode ( power and vol down ).
Plug up the vivid to your computer and fire up fastboot
On your terminal type :
fastboot rebootRUU
Start up the official ics RUU for the vivid, follow all instructions, return to stock.
Don't use z4 root on the vivid, its useless. Read the pinned topic that hasoon2000 put up on the all in one toolkit

When the SHTF, try the recovery project. Z4root is only good for select 2.1 and 2.2 devices. The HTC Vivid comes stock with 2.3+ or ICS.
If you're looking to root if you do decide to go replacement if all else fails, upgrade to ICS when you get the new vivid and follow hasoon2000's guides.
Or try the method below
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
If you want to give this a shot to restore your vivid, try this out. This is how I recovered a vivid in a similar situation regarding a stalled RUU refresh.
Try to get into hboot using ADB when you see the triangle screen.
adb reboot bootloader, if this fails then type
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Hopefully you got the fastboot hboot screen by now.
If you see the hboot screen then try unlocking your device, if you can without issue then proceed. If it is unlocked continue
Install the ICS CWM for vivid from fastboot ( check the pinned guides on these forums )
Enable USB mode from CWM
Take this time out to retrieve any data such as pictures, videos or files you need to get from the internal sd.
Go to wipe, wipe boot, wipe data then format the internal sd.
Select back when complete, turn off the vivid. Get back into bootloader mode by pressing power and down on the volume button.
Get into fastboot relock the bootloader only if you want a stock ics from the RUU.
If so, then get into fastboot USB mode, open up your terminal/command prompt, navigate to where you keep your fastboot executable, then type :
fastboot rebootRUU
Start up the ICS RUU only!.
I didn't want to risk flashing a custom Rom over the problem I experienced through cwm, but I would have to say that might work also, but mantra is, when all else fails, back to stock.
When finished complete a somersault ninja flip lol.
Huge problems do occur when you try to downgrade back to GB from ICS. Partition changes, etc...
Keep us posted.

Try re flashing the recovery. Find the file somewhere and in fast boot usb in the bootloader flash it with a command prompt. You can find more precise instructions around the forums, but if you can get into recovery you can flash another ROM and should be okay from there. I had a bunch of problems with holics too.
Edit: you might be semi-screwed though. If you can't get it usable through re flashing the recovery you might have to re-lock the bootloader and run an RUU.

Try flashing wcx's recovery. CWM gave me nothing but problems.
The RUU is the factory image that the phone shops with. Just google "xda forums vivid RUU" and you should be able to find it from there. Just follow he instructions in the post and that'll return you to stock. Then you can re unlock and re root from there.

Especially since the thermal daemon doesn't seem to work on these phones, or at least with some of the custom ROMs, so it's possible that if you overclock and overheat, the phone won't protect itself. Just something to consider.
I think if you remove the underclock (these phone come stock running at 1.2GHZ, but it's a 1.5GHZ processor! You can safely run at 1.5 all day long no sweat. I've been running it at 1.5 since day one. Things are plenty snappy at 1.5 in my opinion. YMMV.

Especially since the thermal daemon doesn't seem to work on these phones, or at least with some of the custom ROMs, so it's possible that if you overclock and overheat, the phone won't protect itself. Just something to consider.

It's mostly the handful of sensation ports floating around that have that issue IIRC. The ones based off of the holiday framework are usually okay.
Is there something specific you've gotta do to remove the underclock or is it just setting the kernel to what you want it in the setup?
And yeah, at 1.5 this phone is an absolute beast.

I am pretty sure there are changes in the kernal code that need to be made to allow you to set the CPU speed. I believe the min-max limits are established in the kernel code, and then the running freq is determined by config file(s).
That's why with some kernels you are stuck with one freq, while others are variable between different ranges. I think the kangbang kernel is 2.0GHZ, while some others are 1.8 or 1.7.
It would make sense for the thermald problem to only be happens on Sensation ports, as the thermald.conf still has a note in it about being from the sensation (and modded by good ol' mike1986 himself). I think the problem must extend past the conf file though, because the only difference is in thermal thresholds (mike's version allows the phone to run a bit hotter).
I gotta remember one of these days to replace the thermald exe with the one from the stock rom and see if it will then work...
When it's not working, it constantly polls and poops junk out to the log, and eats up battery like it's going out of style.
what ROM did you flash

At that point, no i couldnt. I just Googles the RUU and Started fresh. Unlocked the bootloader, rooted, flashed rom and now im thinking of overclocking a bit. So, case closed i guess! Thank you!

Hi, I have the same problems now as you had a few posts ago. I am using Hassoon's AIO toolkit but I am unable to boot into recovery, it starts looping and glances at recovery screen then loops. How exactly did you get to flashing your new ROM and what one did you use?
I am badly wanting to have wifi hotspot.
Thanks in advance

use the RUU and install stock ICS and go from there to install a ROM with unlocked hotspot

Fastboot erase cache command should fix your problem. After that you should be able to boot into recovery after flashing a new recovery.
