Hey guys,
I hope you can help me. I am aware of the ICS Kernel Bricking bug, and the faulty chip with the faulty firmware, as described on the xda portal, and I read all the stickies. Nevertheless I want to ask you for your opinion on this matter, to prevent turning my note into a brick
So thats what happend last night:
I was on LPY for about 1 month (since released) with root, stock kernel. Before I was on GB DarkyRom 3.3. Everything went normal until I made 2 changes the last hours:
1. I modified the build.prop with this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687156
2. I installed Super Video (like popup player on the galaxy s3) and had several freezes when I started to watch 2 videos. So I took out the battery like 4 times.
Phone booted normally. So I locked the screen, and went to a party.
Then I realized that within 2 Hours the battery got from 50% to 15%. I was too busy to look at betterbatterystats, so I just rebooted the phone with the stock Power Menu.
Now my phone won't boot anymore. It stucks on "Samsung Galaxy Note N-7000" Screen.
As I said, I have not wiped, or do anything with cwm or 3e recovery. However, I can get into DL mode and 3e recovery.
What can I do now? Flash LPF? Reflash LPY?
I read somewhere by someone, that it could be, that even without wiping, the phone can get brick at anytime... Did that happend to me?
I haven't tried to flash anything else, because I wanted to share this with you and get your opinion.
Thanks in advance
k!DDa
So now donot try anything.I suppose you were in darkyrom 3.3 re.If so,you should have known about the counter. So flash it and you will be fine.I again say it will increase counter if you use 3.3 re.
If you don't want the counter, flash a stock gb rom/stock-rooted gb rom.I prefer 3.3 re because it is a wipe rom
Hi vijai2011,
thanks for your answer but I was on darkyrom BEFORE I switched to LPY (that was just a side note^^)

thats not a problem.you can try.
wow you're fast^^
okay but isn't it possible to revive my note? e.g. just flashing a non wipe ICS version via PC ODIN (I do not care about the counter or triangle)
like criskelos ICS No wipe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609252
the inability to boot you describe sounds like something a corrupted build.prop might cause so it's probably nothing to worry about. you'll need to restore your build.prop somehow, probably by flashing something in Odin
ok thanks, I will try. but one good and one bad thing:
I saved the original build.prop before
But on the internal SD card and not my external ^^
If you want to be absolute sure Flash a stock ICS (a full wipe version) rom from pc odin. If all goes well there is no brickissue for you. Then you root using Dr Ketans method.

No problem. As I said already its better to go for a wipe rom because of the repartition thing...
one last qustion,
I decided to reflash LPY. But it has only an tar.md5 file. I cannot use MobileOdin. Can I just put it in PDA at PC Odin? (Rename it before to .tar?)
The last 20 firmwares I flashed hadn't that extension.

yes that will work fine, but don't rename it. it works as .tar.md5
yes put the md5 in the pda section and flash with pc odin as normal
Thanks guys my phone is booting again
hi , I had installed the ICS Stock Germany, and this morning I went to install the Rocket Rom ICS v3 but my note is not restarted more, then i flash the ICS Stock whith Odin Pc, since then my note is not restarted more, gets stuck on the screen of samsung , I have done several downgrades and upgrade ins roms Stock and Custom,it comes in so Download mode and Recovery, but when I go to a Full Wipe it crashes and restarts, please help me
Have you tried downgrading to a stock GB ROM with Odin and doing a wipe in recovery while on GB rom ?
Dont do data wipr on stock rooted roms
Hey , did you do full wipe on ICS stock LPY ( German release ) Rom ?????? Hope you have not . Haven't you read that most of the stock ICS roms have emmc cap bug ?? it will super brick your phone ! . Download stock Gingerbread KL3 firmware and flash it using PC Odin . But before that, flash the pit file based on whether your phone is 32 GB or 16 GB , and then flash KL3 . You might be doing good after this . If not and if you have done data wipe on LPY then the only way to fix this ( till now !) is to edit data partitions of your phone using adb tools found with android sdk , or get your motherboard replaced or whatever the Samsung Service Centre asks you to do . Good luck with the first step ! Hope that you ll be successful at first step
If you need any help feel free to ask , will help as much as possible.
I have included 16GB pit file , flash it through PDA slot in PC odin
I tried

Check Rocket Rom or Dr Ketan threads - best to flashback to Abyss 3.9 or 4.2 then reboot into recovery and factory reset before flashing RR3 or later. I've done this twice and it worked both times.
damn now im chickening out guys i need to know something...im on cm9 so i assume its safe to flash ics stock directly since its a safe kernel?now how do i go on about it?enter cwm mode wipe everything, download latest ICS flash with pc odin then root it?
also how do i recover my backed up data with TB?since i dont have an external SD yet
I am not sure what do u mean by samsung screen...is it the boot animation or the samsung galaxy note screen GT N7000 screen??? I flashed the criskelo's rom and I got stuck in boot animation....I was able to go to cwm recovery and download mode..but I was not able to flash anything via cwm...not even abyss kernel....I never used download mode on note yet...so I was trying to fix it without using pc....gladly I had an old version of franco kernel....which I was able to flash and then I rebooted into recovery and flashed abyss kernel...and back to checkrom...and now on aokp....

Hi everyone, I was running stock ICS 4.0.3.
I rooted device using CWM.zip and installed SuperSU file.
I then downloaded crickelo custom rom and tried to install using cwm. It would just hang on installing bit so i did factory wipe/reset. Then my phone rebooted to samsung boot logo and went into a loop. can anyone help me as i can only get into download mode, and when i try flash a rom it gets stuck on factoryfs part like near the end. Do i need to wait for odin to do its bit and roughly how long does it take to copy a rom to the galaxy note using odin?
Im a noob so all help will be appreciated
PC-Odin takes max 6-7 minutes to flash a ROM.
Hi im trying to pc odin but it looks like rom is stuck at 95%. how long shall i wait?
before you do somthing else with the phone please read this link first to make sure you on right track:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659768
If odin gives a fail at factoryfs write, you probably got your eMMC busted. Happens on stock ICS kernels when you wipe via cwm. Go through the 12th post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661590
If your note is under warranty and your.custom rom shows no and binary count is zero, take it to samsung service center and tell them that the phone doesnt start after the upgrade. Tell them that you were on GB and upgraded to ICS. Dont tell them of custom roms and kernels.
Samsung ICS has this eMMC brick bug, so they would replace the mother board under warranty if.your binary count shows zero.
If ur binary count is up, you can flash angelom kernel, boot into its recovery and then boot into the download mode to check the count. Else boot into recovery and then download mode again.
Angelom resets the binary count. But dont stay on it, it can potentially hard brick your phone.
If the count is zero, you can boot your region's stock kernel and then take it for warranty.
Ive flashed angelom kernel and its reset my binary count. All i get now is samsung logo? can i do anything else? ive booked in a repair with samsung. Shall i send it in?
If your able to get into Download mode and the phone still powers up (even though it doesnt complete booting) Then i doubt its hardbricked as it would show no signs of life at all.
Have you tried flashing back to a full GB firmware with ODIN ? GB is the best firmware to revert to when you get serious issues.
can you send me link to gb rom to install? and any additional files etc. Ive tried flashing but it gets stuck on factoryfs, like 95% is complete and the last bit dont appear to move? how long does it roughly take to flash rom? im a noob so if anyone can guide me through step by step il appreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download it, Load it into ODIN, Put phone in DL Mode, Hit start
Job done
which rom do i download? 2.3.6 gingerbread
Because it stops at the factoryfs write, your phone has the eMMC bug. Your eMMC memory has been corrupted by the wipe that you performed in recovery.
Just download a stock kernel for your region and flash it via pc odin. Do not flash the full ROM, GB or ICS, it will freeze at factoryfs write.
Flash a stock kernel and give it to Samsung.
Download stock kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371007

i doubt it would help.
if you have flash counter, you cannot claim warranty. the only way for you to claim warranty is to purposely brick your phone.

Any idea what your original stock kernel version was and which kernel are you on? Did you flash anything after angelom kernel?
---------- Post added at 11:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 PM ----------
This is the link to xxlc1 GB kernel. It is the Open european kernel.
Flash it before you send the phone to samsung. Do not tell them anything about custom kernels or roms. Just tell them that your phone booted while upgrading and it didnt start after that. I am stressing it again... Just make sure your binary count is zero and rom shows stock. They will repair under warranty.
Hi ive flashed the stock kernel lc1. My binary download is zero and current binary reads samsung official. that should be ok yes? i was on stock ics 4.0.3 lpt version i think. Shall i flash a rom and then pull battery out as ive told samsung my phone reads firmware upgrade encountered an issue etc.
At the minute after flashing the lc1 kernel, i see the samsung boot screen only. will that make a difference? anyone know how long will they take to repair my phone? and will they replace motherboard hence give me a new imei number?
can anyone tell me how to re partition the galaxy note so i can maybe load a rom on it..? at moment it will copy 95% on odin factoryfs.. and thats it.
any help appreciated x
hello,
i bought a fresh n7000 with stock ics firmware on it. i wanted to go to paranoid android.
1. i rooted the stock ics
2. found out that i need gingerbread to flash custom firmware
3. installed sdk, driver on ubuntu
4. installed heimdall, as its the odin for linux
5. downloaded N7000XXKJ4 from samfirmware.com
6. extracted it to have the single images to flash with heimdall 1.3.1
7. booted in download mode, attached the phone to usb and hitted detect device in heimdall
8. device was found
9. started flashing, first without repartition
boot.img as BOOT
param.lfs as PARAM
factoryfs.img as FACTORYFS
cache.img as CACHE
zImage as KERNEL
Sbl.bin as SBL1
hidden.img as HIDDEN
modem.bin as MODEM
10. flashing went all thru, the phones screen showed the progress also
11. phone did a reboot, after all flashing was done
12. stuck at bootscreen
13. found in the web that its normal and i should do a factory reset in the recovery (its not cwm)
14. stuck at bootscreen
15. repeated step 9. with pit file and repartition
16. same bootscreen
i know the phone is not dead, just not booting, but i have absolutely no chance to find out what to flash exactly and how to do it.
hm could i now just flash the abyss kernel and cwm recovery.bin or so and install a custom rom?
if you are now on GB then flash a kernel, either in CWM or odin and do a full factory reset along with all caches and dalvik cache.
i wouldnt recommend flashing a custom ROM until the stock rom is booting, you dont want to be covering up any underlying errors.
Also, Why did you re-partition ? Did you re-partition using a 3 file firmware (PDA, CSC, Phone) or just a single firmware - PDA ??
hm i dont know on what i am, because it doesnt boot.
i thought i eventually had to repartition because i changed from 4.0 to 2.3.5 ... i used the n7000 16gb pit file.
Well what did ODIN say ? Did it complete or did it get stuck and fail ?
You can flash a kernel in ODIN which should allow you to enter CWM and do a wipe, However you might get issues if you flash a GB kernel over ICS Firmware and vice versa
heimdall ran complete through, said its all fine and the phone rebooted at the end of flashing as it should be. seems all perfect.
the issues i get can not be worse?! if i would now flash a gb kernel, even if there is ics under the hood, the phone would also just not boot?!
I dont know really, Ive never tried, nor do i intend to lol.
But i imagine GB is now on your phone considering it all passed without fail So i guess you should try to flash a kernel and then do a full wipe and see if it boots then
chances are there are some ICS files left on the system preventing it from booting.
and following the guides on xda im not allowed to flash the other kernel with heimdall/odin.
i should use the cf-kernel for my firmware and flash it with the bat-script, is this correct?
Just flash this in ODIN and you will be fine
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/GingerBread-speedmod-kernel-n7000-k2-12-Odin.tar
boot into recovery, do a factory reset, then clear cache partition, then go to advanced and clear dalvik cache, then reboot
then report back
ok. now i have the yellow triangle. i wanted to avoid this.
BUT it looks very promising. clockword mod is starting. did the wipes. and when i reboot it boots directly in cwm. i think this is good atm.
i have to leave at work now. tomorrow morning i can flash a rom with cwm right? and if i flash an ics rom, then i have to flash a ics kernel, too?!
Dont worry about the triangle, Use this app to remove it https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/eu.chainfire.triangleaway-47fe5bbd55070e4eddce741c0ef13110.apk
Like i said above, Make sure the phone boots before flashing any other ROMs. If you want to upgrade to ICS you will need to flash ICS in ODIN, Unless you want to use a CM9 / AOSP based ROM like Paranoid Android, In this case you will stay on GB, Just full wipe and flash ROM in CWM
EDIT: I mis read your post, Your phone is not booting, But only booting into CWM, In this case, try a custom ROM, Nothing to extreme just a simple GB ROM and see if it boots properly then
thanks so much!
flashed checkrom notehd via cwm. boots clean and nicely up.
i flashed/rooted some phones before htc hero, hd2, zte blade. but none of them, even the hd2 with its windows conversion was as unclear as the n7000. i think because in former times the developers wherent as many as actual, and there were much less guides/tuts/howtos which made an user less unsecure.
nevertheless, your support is gorgeous: friendly, fast and ultracompetent.
edit: can i change the title in solved anyhow?

I was trying to install Ultimate_N7000_LSC_JB_4.1.2_v5.1 on non-rooted device.
After booting into Recovery and installing CWM, i tried Data wipe/Factory reset.
(Battery was 100%)
The screen switched of suddenly and now i am stuck.
Here are somethings i have tried:
1) Tried flashing N7000DDLRB_N7000ODDLR4_N7000DDLR1_HOME.tar.md5 using ODIN. Never goes beyond NAND flashing (Tried in Admin mode, with ODIN Mode)
2) Tried flashing cm-9.1.0-n7000 and had status 0 and status 7 error many times.
Most of the flashing methods mention : "wipe data/Factory reset". Whenever i do that, i get stuck in "Wiping Data... .Formatting /data"
I have tried "Fix permissions", it wont work.
I didnt take a ROM backup and now i really regret it.
Currently when i navigate using CWM i can see all my internal as well as external memory files. So, i guess my OS is gone and files are still there.
The Custom Rom Counter says: Yes (Count 4) in ODIN mode.
Can someone help ? Please i am desperate.
What rom you on before flashing?..GB or ICS?

ICS 4.0.4
I had not done any Modifications, rooting to my N7000 before yesterday.
Would like to go back to Any ROM.
Unrooted ROM (ICS 4.0.4), Leaked JB Rom, CM9, CM10. Any ROM. Just want to get my phone up and running
What error do you get when flashing with Odin?
Does it stop at "factoryfs.img"?
How did you install CSM on your stock Rom ICS 4.0.4?
Your "soft bricked" sounds more like "super bricked" to me.. Did you use CWM.zip to wipe?
Tapatalking on my n7000
Yes. I used CWM.zip.
But now that my phone is not working, how do know what is the firmware version?

PHONE: MODEM_N7000xxxxx_REV_05_CL1067428.tar.md5

What does xxxx stand for? I have the Serial No. of my phone. And have done normal OTA updates only.
Brought from flipkart in August (if it helps narrow down the xxxx)
Superbricked or soft, please help.
Just downloaded some CWM file (Sorry i searched a lot, i couldnt remember the source)
Here are the steps:
Flash it with Odin 1.85, (Click PDA, choose the file and press Start)
After this you will have Root on your phone.
Now you can go into CWM and flash the Rom.
1) Download Ultimate XXLSC Jelly Bean 4.1.2 custom ROM for Galaxy Note to the PC
2) Connect the device to PC using USB cable and transfer the downloaded ROM zip file to the phone's SD card
3) Unplug the USB cable from the phone and then turn it off
4) Enter into Recovery mode by switching on the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together
5) In CWM Recovery, perform a full data wipe
Here is where it suddenly stopped and the screen went blank. (I am double sure battery was 100%)
Thanks for the prompt replies

If you have warranty then claim it.. Super brick means that the emmc chip it's burned.. There's some methods to get it to partially work but you lose around 3Gb of memory and generally you can not use TW roms.. Or at least stock TW.. Not to mention the random reboots and freezes..
So most likely if you don't have warranty then use the pit file method or pay for a motherboard replacement..

Thanks for the suggestion.
I managed to flash 4.0.3 ROM and stock Kernel and it somehow worked. (did too many things)
Here's the current status: Running 4.1.2 (XXSLO, ZSLM5). Unrooted and stock ROM. (Updated from 4.0.3 to 4.1.2 in kies)
Everything is back. The phone runs good. But when i try installing any software, it will freeze. The apk/app installs eventually but after 2-3 reboots.
Can you tell me the issue?
I read it somewhere that the "Cache" partition is damaged.
Can someone please tell me any way to avoid freezes.
