[Q] Stupid Question: ICS Layout vs non-ICS Layout - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
previously I used MIRACLEV4 rom and during install I directly flashed also the ICS Layout for this ROM (following the install instructions with flashing->undo->reflashing).
Now I switched to APOCALYPSE and did not flash the corresponding ICS layout.
From 'layout point of view' both look similar to me. What exactly will change if I now apply the ICS layout for the APOCALYPSE ROM? Are there any screenshots for normal and ICS Layout ?

Its in the notifications. When you have layouts, notifications has boxes in the left side with ther icons on the middle of the box. For example when you have installed an app from the market. I prefer ICS layouts cause its much more uniform.

Layouts will also change the volume bar if you're pressing the volume keys
They will change to ics like if you apply layout patch

I just reinstalled the Apocalypse Rom (had the 1st version still) and the corresponding ICS theme. Got to say I like what I see and the default apps selection is much improved (quickpic, file explorer).

The USB mass storage window layout is also changed.
Clock layout changed, and it will turn blue if you long press on it.
Clear notification button changed to "X" button and placed on top.
Carrier label in notification is placed to bottom.
and some other that i didn't noticed.

The new clock layout is very nice indeed, had not noticed it yet. All in all some simple and subtle improvements that really make Apocalypse shine!

(Request) Galaxy Tab 10.1 Status Bar

Hi all,
I'm really not a fan of the stock Tron-Like status bar and am thinking about changing it. I have looked into it and can prob figure out how to do everything bar the clock. Would it be possible for someone to walk me through this, or even better provide a CWM flashable zip to change from Stock Xoom to Stock Galaxy Tab?
I'm currently running stock UK 3.1 as i haven't seen a need to Root up until now. I would prefer to stay on the UK 3.1 also, as although i have tried Hammerhead and Morray, i dislike the soundset for the lock-screen and keyboard. (mainly the KB is far too quiet!)
Many Thanks in Advance!
Dex
it wouldn't be hard to change but it would require a rom that has the images you want and we could only change images.
I'm searching for the images now! Its weird, all the images on the Web show the Galaxy 10.1 as having different icons, but every rom i download has Stock HC ones...

For some odd reason everyone likes the stock ones. I don't on my build of mantaray i have the icons and clock font changed. You'll probably have to find a stock rom to get images.
I'll keep looking, in the mean time, i have worked out how to change the font of the clock - do you have any clue on how to change the colour?
Thanks
Just outta curiosity how did u change the font for the clock? I have font changer but I just want to change the clock font

So keunhuvac has ported a touch wiz theme to the xoom but it's for tiamat 2.1 it works with 2.2 but you lose all the new moray features but the images are there anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16312414

In \System\Fonts you change AndroidClock_Solid.ttf for the font you want! (Obv renamed to AndroidClock_Solid.ttf)
Awsome thanks much appreciated

Hi Everyone,
I've been modding my install of Moray for the last couple days - changing images and backgrounds, trying to remove as much of the blue blur as I can. I've used some images from a tab 10.1 rom I downloaded. I've been pretty successful at this so far.
I've also changed the stock clock, but once I replace the font files, the clock on the lockscreen has a lot of extra space between it and the date, as well a very little bit of the left side is cut off. Any suggestions as to how this can be solved?
Snapshots are below of before & after.

I noticed the font not quite fitting on the lock screen too, so for now i've gone back to stock font for that.
I've used the Galaxy Tab icons and given them the same colour as the Wifi and Battery icons, then used the DroidSans font for the clock and used the same colour there too.
Here is a screen, its simple but far preferable.

How did you change the status bar font, and leave the lockscreen font as stock? Which of the three stock files did you modify?
Also, how did you change the colour of the clock in the status bar? I assumed this was possible with xml files, buti haven't adventured into this area yet.

The status bar clock colour can be changed in SystemUI.apk/res/layout-xlarge/status-bar-notification-area.xml, under the entry "holoclock"
I changed only the AndroidClock-Solid.ttf for the font, the other 2 fonts combine to make the lock screen and notification pop-up font.
All is explained really well on the XML editing here on method 2 in post 3.
Hope This Helps
I would like to change the status bar too!
Here are the pngs for
Wifi
Battery
And toggles (bottom left)
You can edit them how you like and place the in the right apks
(systemui or framework.res)
inside the zip tells you where i got them from
Hope it helps!

[Q] How to display the bottom status bar in ICS tablet mode ?

Hi,
Does anyone know how to display the ICS bottom status bar on an ICS ROM, configured with DPI = 213 to switch in tablet mode ?
In this mode, the top status bar is totally removed from the screen, but the bottom status bar is not added.
So no battery or network status is displayed, nor notifications.
Thanks,
Philippe
Need cyanogenmod for that. No work on Samsung ROM.

edit build.prop and change ro.sf.lcd_density=320 to 200
Already done to 213 as stated in OP (using Rom Toolbox).
But do you mean that changing from 213 to 200 will make appear the bottom status bar ?

OK, but it is strange because at 213 DPI, ICS (Romow) seems really in tablet mode :
- no top status bar
- settings, Gmail, Market, .... are displayed with tablet layout
- Menus are displayed in the top right of the screen
- and so on ...
There is just the bottom status bar missing

Need to elaborate a little more to the people asking questions.
Changing density with cm9 to 213 or lower will access tablet mode. Need nova launcher also.
Changing density with Samsung ics leak will lead to fc. System UI and other things force close.

Using Rom Toolbox works well with Samsung leak changing to 213, but still haven't found a way to get the status bar.
autobrightness seems to change fast which causes annoyance

[Q] Is there a way to have recently used apps show in the notification area?

I know that i can click and hold the home button to show recently used/running apps but I would prefer to just drag down the statusbar and see 8 icons of recently used apps.
I have tried different apps from market but most of them show a button that mimics holding down the home button instead of showing icons directly in the notifications area.
Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tried both but like I said in the original post. I'd like it to show icons of recently used apps horizontally. The second one is a full status barcreplacement and I don't want that. Appreciate your help
Use an HTC device? I'm not sure, but check out UOT Kitchen and see if they have that option. Basically you build your own status bar from scratch. I haven't heard any methods of using recently used apps in the Notification bar except for HTC.

About HTC, can't we have that implementation as an app? I would love something similar. thank you for the contribution!

[Q] A couple of questions regarding GingerDX

Just started using it and it works great!
Just have two questions:
1) Where can I configure the statusbar pulldown appearance? I want it to looklike this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814890
2) Is there anyway to change the keyboard layout to include the "ñ" key? I have it set to spanish, but the layout stays the same, I still have to keep the "n" key pressed to get the "ñ"
thanks a lot!

If I understood your question , then
1) Change your theme to some other CM7 theme. That changes the pulldown appearance.
2) Change your keyboard. Use some third party app. Try Swiftkey. I think it has this letter.
I guess for the 1st question you could either: Change theme to a CM7 theme in the theme chooser and market, or you could try flashing it, but i dont think it will work with our phone, so IMO get a CM7 theme
use go keyboard(free) install spanish
Hey, I also yesterday installed GDX and it works gr8 inspite of some sound issues with songs(i had crappy sound tell me if u also encounter them)
Now, for
1. Get couple of CyanogenMod themes by searching them. They change the look of ur phone and including status bar.
Get themes on
h t t p : //forum.cyanogen m o d . c o m/topic/17567-list-cm7-theme-chooser-themes/
[Remove those spaces in the link as i m not allowed to post links as a newbie]
and for
2. Use a third party keyboard app. Try using GO keyboard, Swiftkey or SlideIT

Thanks a lot everyone!
For 1: I looked into the theme department, but was a little overwhelmed with all the alternatives... what are some of your favourites?
For 2: I tried Go Keyboard but it doe3sn't have the Ñ, I'll take a look at swiftkey.
thanks!
Also, if I don't change the theme, can I at least add more buttons to the pulldown menu? the APN switch is what I need.
thanks!
You can found the available widget in
System >> Cyanogenmod setting >> Interface >> Notification Power Widget >> Widget Buttons then check the widget you want
Yes, use some other cm7 theme, about keyboard i would recommend xperia`s keyboard... It should have all languages i think..

Yeah, i would recommend sony keyboard, but if you want that certain letter, try swiftkey. Slide it would also be an alternative.

[Theme][CM10x]Kronic'sBlueMod v7.4 Neon Blue Black Circle Percentage /w charge anim.

Icon mods might not work on phones that don't run off xhdpi (if you dont know what this is just try the mod and if icons are still default color in system bar you're out of luck unless you wanna resize all the icons in /res/xhdpi in every apk for the size your phone uses and copy them to the correct folder your phone uses.
This is the theme from my upcoming rom for the p930(NitroHD) built on CM 10.1.3. I decided to release the theme seperately since then it can be used on other phones unlike the rom.
to reverse the install of the theme just reflash CM installer.
if you only want part of the theme open the archive with 7-zip and replace the files you don't want themed on your phone with the original files from the cm10x installer flashable.
- note that most apps will need the updated framework to get the full benefit of the theme (almost every app on your phone borrows icons and drawables from framework-res.apk)
---Installation.
- flash zip from recovery and reboot
- (optional/recommended) wipe cache and dalvik (this step can fix a few minor lag and ui glitches if not performed and experience problems you can reboot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik at any time)
- use the icon battery option in -settings-->system-->statusbar to get the moded circle with percentage indicator, if someone wants me to mod another battery icon just let me know but i probly won't bother with the built in circle batteries since i've already done one and its easier to mod the icon based indicator.
themed apps include
-Mms
-Phone
-Contacts
-Settings
-SystemUI
-keyboard (7.2+)
-email2 (7.2+)
-framework-res
- bonus is a custom battery animation that i pulled from someone who shared it that i can't remember the name of (was years ago) but if you are the owner just link me the original thread and i'll give you credit for it. (i couldn't find oringinal thread)
- custom spinner added
- neon blue keyboard gestures
- inclusive switches, radio buttons, check boxes (most not all)
- landscape keyboard screen moded
- toast frame moded
- power menu moded
- taking suggestions on improvements i can make
I'm aware of a few small bugs and inconsistencies
- the power menu is fully blacked out but the reboot menu is a lighter shade of black, looking for a fix.
- the odd grey writing usually in text boxes that haven't been activated yet
- still need to blackout the odd textfield
Please report if i missed icons or features that i may not use so didn't realize i missed them or if you have any improvement suggestions.
v7.0 link removed obsolete

v7.2 link removed obsolete
beta
v7.3 link removed obsolete
(optimized apks for performance and zipaligned them for performance)
this will be the final update unless i find a fix for any of the minor issues or someone requests other icons or something
v7.4 link removed obsolete
(fixed reboot menu blackout and a few of the textfields, possibility of more textfields coming, hopefully i can find the one for the keyboard in landscape mode.)
(versions following 7.3 are all 0 compression and zipaligned (optimized for performance))
v7.6 link removed obsolete
blackout quicksettings tiles and notification background, along with fix for keyboard in landscape mode blackout. a few other minor fixes.
there are still some next boxes that i've found that don't have changed text color yet, working on it.
beta versions ^^
v7.7 (RC1) https://www.dropbox.com/s/svadw68thfmnw8m/Kronics-BlueMod-V7_7.zip?dl=0
fixed the toast notifcations (superuser/killapp/etc) notifications at bottom center, along with some other minor tweaks and more text color updates
fixed landscape keyboard and black text boxes showing up in apps that should have white text boxes. added screenshot of new landscape keyboard (gesture glow is also neon blue)
v7.8 (RC2) https://www.dropbox.com/s/5jxqc41fksosf9b/Kronics-BlueMod-V7_8RC2.zip?dl=0
added some updates to lockscreens
looking into gmail app (i dont use it so never noticed)
p.s. I disable the lights in the capacative keys because they drive me crazy and i dont need them to know where the buttons are. if you'd like to do this also push the file 80turnoffled to /system/etc/init.d/ or put it there using es file explorer. (unzip it first the file should have no extension when you put it into init.d) by the way this mod is for the p93x lg nitro hd, it might work on other phones not sure. should be safe to try on other phones just delete the file if it doesn't work
^^ that will save a small amount of battery life too, not sure how much power those lights use probably not much but everything helps.
standard disclaimer i'm not responsible if your phone blows up or something
reserve
releasing update later today that will include a neon blue spinner and if all goes well the email app, if goes really well keyboard too
uploading v7.2 right now and will provide the link when it's done, keyboard is done and email is done, spinner included, only problem is couldn't edit much of the body of email, just the bars and background and widget. The body might not be possible without enabling some sort of inverted setting because the body is contained in the email
also have not figured out how to edit the text background when the keyboard is in landscape mode, but i assume that this is possible, i'll hotfix when its ready.
added ss of keyboard
possible final version released
yay v7.6 fixed landscape keyboard and notification/qs bg
bump for rc1 release thx for the pm bug reports

i meant which stock lockscreen (ie pattern/pin/password/swipe/etc) I can't modify apps that go through playstore anyways since there is verification.
the two updates i still have in mind is a few of the lockscreens and the playstore icons and part of the playstore. (the playstore one will only work until there is a playstore update) i'll probly work on this tonight after work.
