HTC Vivid Bricked? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hi,
I have a 1 month old HTC Vivid. It was running it on ICS 4.0.3 and it was rooted. Today, while I was working on it, it suddenly powered off and now it won't do anything. Like it doesn't display anything on the screen, doesn't get powered up and when I connect the charger, I can't even see the orange light. ITS TOTALLY F**KED UP!!!
Please Help!! Thanks!!

Can you boot into H-Boot?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA

I got the same problem. The phone did not work at all. It only flashed for a few seconds when I pressed the power button. I searched all the websites, but nothing worked. My solution is to send the phone to HTC to have it fix. They have a very good customer service.

With the charger plugged in, does the phone vibrate when the HOME, MENU, BACK, or SEARCH buttons are pressed?

Had a similar problem, for me HTC was the only solution, just say that it happened suddenly and dont mention anything about boot loader or roms.

Have you guys tried project UNBRICK yet? Search that on the forum here, as I can't post links yet.

This. AT&T replaced my no-power Vivid under the One Year Warranty.

Yes but it is a pain and takes several tries. I had this problem a few days ago and this was the only way I could get around it.
I HOPE YOU HAVE DATA BACKED UP! That's your responsibility and not mine. If this ruins your phone then tough. I will not be held responsible for a bricked phone...
First off, assuming the bootloader is UNLOCKED, install the ALL IN ONE tool on your computer (it actually runs from a folder and doesn't really install which is good)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003
Open it, then...
Remove any bought protective case (it may mess with the buttons).
Unplug charger.
Remove battery.
Wait 5 minutes.
Reinstall battery.
Plug in USB cable from the computer.
Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and then the POWER button.
It should boot into the bootloader. On the ALL IN ONE tool, flash recovery to CWM. Once complete, click on "Boot into Recovery".
If the phone does not boot into Recovery, flash recovery to WCX.
If the phone reboots into Recovery, you will want to do a factory reset, wipe cache, go to mounts and format them all. Then mount it as USB and copy/paste a ROM over and flash to that ROM. I like Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.2.1.
Good luck.

Worked perfect - had to pull the kernel out of the ROM I used and flash it with the tool but it worked perfectly...

Im betting your screen might be toast, happened to my wife's vivid, completely just up and died one day for no reason. I haven't rooted yet and this sort of stuff makes me leary to do it.

EDIT: I have stopped looking for these threads. The more I look, the more I find. If the above threads don't convince you that there is a serious issue with the vivid, then adding more of the same problem will no longer help.
I have added this thread to a growing list of similar threads. Please read the other threads and see if your issues seem familiar.
From what I understand... Don't let your battery run out on this phone. Some Vivids kill batteries.
Solution? None yet.
1. Buy a new battery once a couple of months-ish, until someone figures out why some Vivids are eating batteries. YMMV
*OR*
2. You might invest in a external charger and see if that can bring the "Vivid munched" battery back to life. YMMV
I vote to thread merge the above threads if this proves to be the issue.

[Q] Green Screen Of Death

Anyone Experience this?
Phone was on stock firmware from AT&T (never been rooted)
Plugged Phone Into the computer & opened Odin3Excution v1.00 & booted the phone into Download Mode and clicked Start on Odin. looked back at the phone minutes later and the phone had a full green screen. waited & waited and neither the phone or Odin were making progress. pulled the phone off the USB pulled the battery. restarted the computer and tried again. Now the phone will not boot at all not even the at&t smart phone screen and it wont boot into recovery or download mode.
The phone is being processed through warranty, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this or knows what happened. Thanks!
BTW the phone was charged 100% and the sim & sd card werent in the device.

You can try not waiting at all at first. Just pull it out, put it it and follow what I said earlier.
i had a green screen in the middle of a flash back to stock with ODIN one click (every usb device stopped working on my machine at once)
fired it back up in download mode and odin'd it...no problem
Yep.. Mine too, two times, except that the screens was Light Blue and Yellow..
Moved to Q&A.
Lol funniest thing that I read this thread and then thought, wow must be one of the lucky one's cause that never happened. Advice, if you don't wanna risk it, find a win machine and use odin one click downloader
Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but it was either this or start a new thread for the same problem.
I was flashing back to stock from Mosaic and this happened. Green screen and nothing else. Now it won't turn on or go back into download mode. Think a jig will help this?.
Edit: Waited about 10 mins and tried again. IT LIVES!!!!
it is worth a try of jig if key combo does not work.
the same thing just happened to me. i was using odin3excution v1.00 to flash back to stock before taking the phone in to AT&T to get the warranty replacement. i got the teal/green/blue screen at factortrfs, it just sat there and killed everything usb on my computer. i pulled the battery and tried to reboot into download/turn it on/plug it in, no response whatsoever. i have the battery pulled and im waiting to try again, but if that does nothing, what can i do? i could take it in and tell them it did this in the middle of the kies update, but is that even believable? any help is appreciated, i don't have a jig and making one is last resort. thanks brothersss

Screwed the pooch totally this time..

Not sure how I did it, but I am stuck at the Red LG logo with the white LG letters and my phone will go no further. It will not shut down without a battery pull. I have tried to do the hold down volume and factory reset the phone, same screen pops back up. Plugged in does nothing either. It is like it lost the ability to boot.
I ask here for maybe some guidance from a dev. If wrong place, please move it.
I can not get into the recovery, regular boot, computer to recognize it.. Nothing at all... Is there an actual boot image to put on the sd card to boot to?
Any suggestions??

You can get into emergency mode to flash the tot file in lgnspt.
1 Pull Battery
2 Press and hold volume up + power
3 Plug phone into computer (while still holding buttons)
4 Put battery back in (while still holding buttons)
5 You should now enter emergency mode
Can u enter CWM? By holding down pwer and vol down. Then confirm data wipe (it won't) then reboot into cwm? If u can try to install a rom

Hi,
Congratz for being the first person I ever read on o2x thread whom actually 'succesfully' bricked his phone. I've been here since o2x thread was born..alot of ppl use the term 'bricked' loosely but hasn't actually really bricked their phones.
If you lost ADB, Fastboot, unable to Nvflash/Smartflash... your phone is, sad to say, gone.
Anyway, I really hope you can share what you did to eventually get into this state, atleast you can help others to prevent bricking their o2x.
Thanks.
Well congratz, now move to something that is properly supported

Ouh...usd16.. pretty useful for spare parts.
If you bought it for 16 dollars then I would advise you to sell the phone for spare parts. Even the glass costs 20 or more dollars.

hmmmm, dudes, idk if im right buuuuuuuuuut... happened to me, i thought it was completelt dead, when after all i found out that my pc didnt recognise my lg o2x as an apx platform so it would always fail, sooooo, i did it on my sisters pc which never had lg drivers and i resurected my phone id advise to try it...

ohhh, long story short and translated, if you have ever installed lg drivers on your pc, forget about it being recognised as an apx platform, even if you uninstall all lg software
1.From PC,manually place Stock LG Rom(V20Q.zip or [?]) on Your SD card then reinsert in phone.
2.Don't connect phone to PC or power (AC)
3.pull the battery out and reinsert it( now connect power (AC)
Hold the Volume Down button (keep pressed!!) then press and hold the Power button until the device turns on and you see the recovery menu
4.then proceed as you normally would meaning install .zip from SD card
Hope it helps

Yes,I read that, But neither would mine after using ext3 converter without backup!
So after eating a big bowl of "BOOTLOOPS" I utilized the phones hard reset mode thinking It would lead to a factory reset but instead got the CWM recovery menu
after which I flashed and Voila 0_0
Also "DUDE" at least I'm trying to offer help instead of joking about such a serious concern...I guess... well only maybe when it's your phone and you have no answers<---this looks better

You should really read again OP, it can't load bootloader.. So it can't boot to anything as bootloader is the essential part of the phone that loads after either recovery partition, or /boot Android one.

[GUIDE] How to revive HTC Salsa from a bricking

Credits to-
BigBearEvo- For making important modifications.
kashttl- For informing about errors with ROM Toolbox.
Introduction-
In simple language, bricking is just making your phone unusable. But as we go deeper in this world of rooting, we find ourselves reading posts with terms like “soft-brick” and “hard-brick”. So what is the difference?
Hard-brick
Hard-brick is when you mess up with your boot image while updating, or when you snatch your phone's USB cable while an update is going on through PC. Or even worse, you flash a ROM @ 0% battery.
Soft-brick
Soft-brick is when you fail to clear your Dalvik, forget to format/wipe data, which leads to your phone going into a bootloop i.e- keeps playing bootanimation for a long time (15 mins or more). This generally happens when there is some mismatch of Android Virtual Machine with installed apps. Or for us, the phone is stuck in White HTC logo screen.
So how to get your phone back to life in case of-
Hard-brick
Sorry boss but your phone is dead. Reviving it will be more expensive than buying a new one. Also this task is done only by a few specialists.
Hard brick can be solved in case of improper flashing of RUU or updates on Stock Phones. you require USB drivers to be installed along with HTC Sync.
You Need the proper RUU designed for your area model.
Load phone into Bootloader screen. Run RUU from PC. you may have to do this several times and follow instructions carefully. You will eventually you load the RUU and have a working phone.
This isn't for the Noob to do. Recommendation is see a service engineer, or seek good help from users that have done this. each Hard brick can be different, dependent on what they did in the first place
Soft-brick
Hmmmm.. Something can be done-
A> First pull out your battery.
B> Put it back.
C> Press Power and Volume Down simultaneously till you enter fastboot screen.
D> Get into recovery mode.
Now you have 2 options-
i> Restore to one of your previous backups.
ii> Flash stock ROM or some other stable ROM.
Precautions while flashing-
A>Firstly DO NOT flash using ROM Toolbox or apps with similar functionality. (Credits- kashttl). People from HTC Desire forum faced a lot of hassle in doing so.
B> Don't just snatch your USB Cable while transferring ZIP file from PC to SD card. It will lead to CWM recovery Errors.
C> Have at least 50% battery charge in your phone before flashing any ROM, minimal level is 20% as 5% battery is used when flashing.
D> Always do a Triple wipe before flashing ROM. (Data/Cache/Dalvik)
E> Always do a Nandroid backup of current ROM before changing into a custom one. (Recovery or Rom manager)
F> Follow any other special instructions (If any) while flashing.
G> If you end up with any problems with a certain ROM, please post in the ROM thread ASAP.

Remove battery and get to hboot menu. Hold volume down key then then power on while holding down.
If u have recovery, boot into it and wipe everything. If not, factory reset on hboot and try to reboot. Seems what ever u did has buggered it and u have to start over.

Depends on the stage you got to. did you try to flash an RUU for your area? if you did it would have wiped your recovery program off. if your didnt and still have cwm installed, please go to another rom that takes your fancy and follow flashing guides from there. more info would be helpful though.

If the USB wasn't detectable it means your pc/laptop does not have the correct programs installed to find it. IE adb etc & java sdk/jdk installed.
try the other methods first though as it should work out easier

that shows only when you booting into recovery. the only way is to flash stock recovery
Oh, well, it's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue.
However, why should I flash stock recovery? I mean, there are no further issues, the phone still charges while in this state, and I can reboot it with my PC. There is one thing I'm worried about;
What if I turn off USB debugging? If I would end up in the "stuck recovery" after I have done so, would I be unable to get out?
And also, I think there is a possible fix.. Wouldn't it be possible to reboot the phone by just pulling out the battery and turning the phone back on? Yes I know, "battery is not removable" but I'm pretty sure it is, it always is. It's not going to be easy tho.

And also, I think there is a possible fix.. Wouldn't it be possible to reboot the phone by just pulling out the battery and turning the phone back on? Yes I know, "battery is not removable" but I'm pretty sure it is, it always is. It's not going to be easy tho.

i don't see why you have to switch off your phone. theres a lot of options in stock rom like "do not disturb", "airplane mode" etc so you don't have to switch off.
It seems this problem happens when you reboot your phone while charging ( i never had problems) try to avoid that.
ps - i never switch off my phone and only reboot it if needed or maybe once a month. But thats me.

I never turn my phone off, but sometimes I can't charge my phone in time and the battery runs dry. See? I can't reboot at 0%, so I have to charge it a little. Now you could tell me that it still isn't a problem, since the phone still charges in recovery and I can use commands to reboot system.. sure, but I'm working on a way to prevent anyone from entering recovery or using adb-debugging or hard resetting my phone (from a distance, if phone is stolen). This would turn off adb-debugging, causing the phone to be stuck in recovery for ever, if it were to charge in off mode. I guess I'm the only one having a problem with the bug

oh, and are you saying that you never had this problem, as in, you tried charging it in off-mode and it worked just fine?

Hi: guess im one of the lucky ones who never had to deal with this.
You can remote reset your phone using Google device manager. You can ring, lock or erase phone and check last location.

I'm using avast since there are more options for rooted devices I'm well aware of the google device manager, but thank you anyway!
I'm using the Honor 7 with TWRP 3.0.2.0by paulobrien and Unofficial CM13 by papsi177 and having the same issue.
When charging while the device is turned off, it automatically boots into twrp. Does anyone have a solution? Are there other recoveries (except the stock recovery) which doesn't have this problem? Is it somehow possible to modify e.g. a file to have a nice charging animation instead?
It isn't that big issue, but it would be nice to solve this anyway...

I found that users phones and recovery gets different reactions.
When i tried cm12 i had that same "issue" but with cm13 i had the battery animation. Same thing with getting phone freeze when battery run out.
The best chance is to try different recovery versions and hope for the best.
That said, i only switch off phone when battery died on me.
im currently still with TWRP 2.7.1.0-20140802

I'll try to downgrade and see if my charging animation gets back ?
Try the new TWRP 3.0.2-0 from nightcore500. The freeze in charging only mode is fixed on his recovery
