[Q] No boot after edit build.prop to fix anims - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before reading that post, I want to apology for my creepy english ^^'
Hello all, so i've deleted buld.prop and when I rebooted my Ace, he wasn't booting, help ??
No just kidding...
Well, have some of Xda devs saw that there is a bug with all animations pop up on Gingerbread ? Or even the animation when you press the the Clock apk ?
This lag is on all stock Gingerbread firmwares for Ace, it wasn't on Froyo.
But as many of bugs, it can be fixed, for that you must be rooted.
Then go to /system/build.prop, choose edit it, and scroll until the middle of the build.prop txt.
Then somewhere you could see debug.sf.hw (I think it's about render UI with GPU, but not sure AT ALL)
If you add a "#" just before it, then all animations like pops up, or when you go in the multitasking will be fixed.
If you are not sure of it, then go on home screen, then longpress where there are no icons, then choose widget, see the huge lag ? And the lag of scrolling in the list ?
After editing build.prop with that, it will works normally
Just add "#" before it
#debug.sf.hw, save and reboot
The only problem is if you havn't installed CF-Root (it changes your bootanim) you will have a white screen on boot, but it boots normally...
But I have a fucin' problem...
It worked normally with all stock roms I had, but with XWKTM (recent stock rom) first, when I want to install Cf-Root b84, it's okay, but when I want to reboot, I have a bootloop... Black screen, when I press home, the screen gets a little lighter but thats all, he gets darker just after...
So reflash KTM...
And I found another way to root the phone, with a flashable.zip which weights 900ko
Boot is okay, reboot too...
So, go edit build.prop as always I want to say , but after saving, when I want to reboot, the same black screen, and still not booting after 2 minutes...
So I went back to KPO 2.3.3 stock, which I deodexed with flashable.zip and a CF - Root B84...
So I just wanted to share this fix, and then wanted to ask if someone knew how to fix the animations lag differently ?
Thanks...

Yes disabling rendering ui by gpu results in black bootscreen. For that you should use bootanimation.zip.Look for mdpi bootanimation here in xda, move it to data/local,set the permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot.

Yes, but it's not only a problem of black bootscreen, because on older roms it was booting, even if the screen was white...
But with that KTM, it isn't booting at all...

Guess u dint set permissions for build.prop

My eyes just exploded .
I like blue , but it seems a little too much x.x
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

shreyasvb, I did the exacly the same thing that I've done on all other stock roms...
Ventus, I always write in blue when I'm on PC, as always, on all forums I'm on

So, I can't use any themes?

It seems as that everytime I install a theme, it boots up, goes to the theme splash screen, and then the screen goes black ( as in, it's backlight, but theres nothing on the screen )
I let it sit in this state for quite some time ( well over 15mins ) and to no avail. I made positive to wipe/restore ext/etc. when I flash over a new theme, but I get the same problems. When I nandroid back though, I have no problems what-so-ever.
Any ideas? Thanks!
which version of cyans rom are you running
4.2.3.1, the same version the themes were made for. I tried themes that said 4.3.2.1, but I was pretty sure they meant the other way around, or not, either way, I tried like 4, 3 with 4.2.3.1, and 1 with 4.3.2.1, they all did the same thing.
Thanks for the response

Do not flash a theme over Stericsons Lock screen, flash it after.
If you flash CM then a compatible theme right after that, it should always work.
I'm not using a theme that has stericsons lockscreen in it. I don't know why it's not working, I don't have anything extra installed on the rom. Thanks for the help!
Stericsons LS is the cause of a lot of problems. Flash cyans ROM again... run it, them download and flash a theme that does NOT have this LS. I think all of your issues will be okay then. M_blend is a great theme without the LS.
Stericson and Cyanogen I think are working to get the LS perfect, but right now... it's not.
^ what theme, or themes, have you tried flashing since installing the ROM?
Trying to reflash everything as I'm writing, I'll edit it with the results.
I've tried; M-blend ( that looked really awesome, ) Freaky blur, Femio, and lucky's turn.
All the newest versions.
Edit: I reflashed cyan, wiped, cleared ext, everything. Flashed M-blend, black screen still.
FML. v.v
Lol, thanks for the help those guys!
When you flashed cyans rom, did you reboot and run it, power down and then flash the theme?
if not, that could be your problem. You do need to run the ROM before flashing a theme.
Two things I know:
1 - nothing is wrong with the rom
2 - nothing is wrong with the theme.
Are you downloading these over wi-fi or 3G so you know you are getting good d/loads?
Of course, I know all about 'stirring the pot' so to speak
I tried it again, and now it's working like a dream... *Insert Flaming for horrid pun* Lol xD
Thanks for the help guys!

[Q]Removing ATT Bloatware, and icons from apps menu

Hi all. I know titanium backup has the option to delete att bloatwares but how do I also remove the icons that is associated with it via the applications menu? Also I flashed my roms to the Perception 8 version, and my phone did not random shutdown but as soon as I load a live wallpaper, within 30 minutes it shut down on me. Does anyone know if this is a bug or not?
Is there a way to flash to the next roms of my choice without having to revert back to stock everytime? Using ODIN and flashing to stock eclair takes too long....

If you delete it, it won't be in the app drawer.

Your own rom over p8? Not sure what you're saying. No lwp bug in any rom I know of. Plus most, if not all, custom roms, have no bloat. Idk what you're asking.

Yes, cwm. But is always best to start from stock.

oh hehe no no no... what I mean is I flashed back to stock rom then to perception 8, had no problem charging it to 100% at night, but as soon as I load a live wallpaper from the market, it turn off after 30 min or so. It's the fish wallpaper where you can feed the fish ... lol ... or maybe the wallpaper sucks?!?!

[Q] 'Back' key hanging/lagging after custom rom flash [SOLVED]

Hi there.
First off, please forgive my posting this thread into the general, but I'm still restricted to posting replies in the dev subsection where the Darky thread is at.
I'm a Bell vibrant user, and I'm having big issues with Darky's 9.0.2; my first custom ROM.
I updated from ugjl2, so I have the sbl.bin that [hopefully] avoids the corrupt SD issue.
I downloaded darky and speedmod kernel to get a CWM. I flashed the speedmod with ODIN fine. I then added the ROM to my internal SD and used CWM to apply it. All went well. I used the full wipe ROM.
Now that I'm running Darky's though, it's wonderfully smooth and responsive except that every once in a while, when I press the BACK button, it just hangs.... for like, 45-120 seconds or more. I get impatient and hit HOME and it snaps a screenshot; as if I were pressing both buttons simultaneously. Locking the screen with the power button then unlocking seems to help most, but not all of the time.
Is this because I'm using the VooDoo kernel (default option) without applying the VooDoo lagfixes? Darky states that this ROM automatically uses the ext4 filesystem, which should negate the need for the voodoo lagfix. Would I be better off to just apply the default lagfixes in CWM or reflash with the speedmod kernel selected in darky's configurator?
What are other culprits that could cause he otherwise fast system to hang on pressing back.... there doesn't seem to any pattern to when it happens that I can find... but it does happen quite a bit.
I searched the forums for this, but found no hits, any help is appreciated and TYIA.
You can grab the "android Terminal emulater " from market .. Type in "mount " and See your partitions and filesystems.. i dont think the default is ext4, its rfs..
Sent from my Galaxy S using XDA App
You're absolutely right.
All of my partitions seem to be RFS.
Odd though because in the features section of darky's thread it says explicitly that it converts all partitions to ext4. Oh well.
What's the recommendation then? Shouldn't RFS also not require lagfixing? I thought it was the samsung ext2 partitions that caused the lag.
In any case, this doesn't feel like regular lags, the system straight up hangs on pressing the back button sometimes.
ieatrocks,
I would check that the lagfix is installed.
I upgraded to Darky's v8.1 on Sunday just before v9.0 came out. v8.1. did not have lagfix installed by default so I manually ran through CWM which is there is an option to run. This made things smoother.
I then flashed to v9.02 this morning and it feels faster and smoother. My understanding is that you do not need to uninstall lagfixes and not that it is automatically installed but please check in CWM. I think the only option to convert is ext4. RFS is the laggy one which is why it converts to ext4. I also enabled all of the recommended tweaks.
Hopefully, this will give you what you expect as the experience is great for me.
Ok, trying both voodoo default options now. Will report back in a few. Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Not 100% gone but a *whole* lot better.
Thanks
I noticed the very odd stutter but not as bad as you mentioned. Have you checked the recommended tweaks? Other option is a wipe if possible. For me, this is a whole lot better than I've ever had
I'm surprised, running Darky's new rom and don't have any lags. I'm not running any lagfixes since android 2.2.1 therefore still on the RFS.
I'm using speedmod kernel though, I had some reboot problem with voodoo on Darky 8.0 . Maybe you should try to fully wipe it clean and reinstall after backing up your data, that's what i usually do, it's better to start fresh!

does any know how to change the color of text from green to default , in the messaging app?
i think your back button gets stuck, because you have mentioned that if you press the home key, it takes a screenshot.
i think somebody else had this problem too. he solved it by some way but i cant remember where it was right now.
just use the search option for 'back button stuck'.
hope it helps.
edit: i think he updated his touchkey firmware by a secret code but i am not sure.
mate....
your post should be deleted...
The Rom doesn't apply by him self any lag fixer.
Use the configurator with option WIPE, reapply Darky Rom and them post issues...
There is a reason why you are not allowed in developer section...

I used the search function. Do you have any idea how many false hits about generic lags I got? I spent a couple of hours looking before posting my detailed situation here.
Darky's by default uses the full wipe option if you're on any rom other than a previous version of Darky's; so my install was a full WIPE. I stated that pretty obviously in my first post. Why you would fly off the handle and start cursing out new users without having the common courtesy or sense to actually read what they wrote before presenting yourself as some sort of rageaholic on a forum is just bizarre.
Thanks to the guy who suggested I look into the firmware update; I can run with that.

Found that thread and everything is fixed now!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869492
Updated my firmware in Darky's and lost both buttons, Turned off the lagfixes, flashed back to ugjl2, updated the touchkey firmware, reflashed speedmod for CWM, and finally re-applied Darky's with a full wipe.
Perfect!
No lagfixes applied on this fresh install yet and everything is working great.
Gave you thanks on the post for the tip.

Hahahaha oh man, I wasn't trying to cast gloom on your awesome ROM Darkyy.
The touchkey firmware hang/lag and fix weren't related to your ROM at all. It looks like it would have happened anyways no matter which ROM I used, I just happened to pick yours.
...which I am enjoying a lot btw. Thanks for all the hard work
EDIT: I found out how to change my thread title, so no more false bad advertising for Darkyy.

Dude... chill out.. what you getting so upset about.. he's asking a question so he's in the right place, we all started off newbies needing some guidance, Its not the end of the world no body forced u to read / reply to this thread.. jeeez.. go take yourself for a long walk.. of a short pier...
soo... :-" has any of you guys come up with an ideea to change the green text from the messaging app back to normal ? pls?
fllipper that should be handled by the theme. AFAIK any deodexed rom can be updated with themes that alter the look including the color and text schemes of the default apps that you normally can't change.
The right place to ask this is in the themes and apps subforum. I may be completely wrong with the theme advice, but I'm reasonably sure there is an entire subforum dedicated to questions like yours.

[Q] Issues with Legend 5 ICS + Corn Kernel 7.06

Just installed these earlier(Odin method) on my 100% OEM gingerbread captivate and I ran in to some issues.
-I'm noticing some sluggishness in various actions, i.e. unlocking the phone, using the connect-the-dots lock screen, etc. Didn't do this before.
-Seems like the battery is draining a little faster than normal.
-Seems like I have less free memory than normal.
-I can not figure out how to fit a wallpaper to a single screen since I don't keep icons on the other screens and even deleted/disabled them in the launcher desktop settings. When I go to wallpapers > gallery > my wallpapers folder > my wallpaper I always choose the rectangle option and click/drag and set that. Now I can only see a small portion of that rectangle as it seems to be zoomed in like 50x. Does it with every custom wallpaper I try.

Really? I'm currently running same as yours Legend 5 ICS with Corn 7.06 and my results are far more different than yours. I have experiencing any of issues or what so ever and I have more free memory than the past Legend 4. I'll suggest that you FLASH back to STOCK KK4 using One click Odin in the development section so it will be a fresh and clean reflash. Then root your phone using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680048 and get CWM. Then FLASH the LEGEND 5 ICS FULL WIPE ROM in CWM. Wait and poof! All is good.
Did you upgrade from another ROM? A previous version of Legend? Go back and flash the full wipe version of Legend. I think you'll see your problems go away.
@ red and takeoutt thanks for the posts @ op hopefully the issues will be taken care of with the one click takeoutt recommended if not feel free to to bring up any other issues you have on the Legend Q&A thread..

What are the steps for reinstalling the Legend 5 ROM? With Corn 7.06 Kernal I booted the phone in recovery mode and used that new kernal menu to install the ROM.zip from internalSD, I'm assuming the process will be about the same?
Do I need to reinstall GB bootloaders or will those always be on my phone due to previously having GB?
Anything else in particular I need to know before doing this?

Pretty sure that's what I went with before, "Legend_v5_KK4_ICS_FW.zip," but maybe it was that 7.06 kernel giving me issues.
Do you know if this wipe/reinstall will give m back my ability to fit backgrounds to my screen again? That's a HUGE annoyance mainly because I only use a single screen, I removed the other blank screens via the holo launcher, and it still stretches my backgrounds for some reason. I'm wondering if I just need to crop my images to single-screen size for them to work properly.
ETA: OdinOneClick got me set back to OEM KK4 without issue. That custom batch file got me rooted and set to Corn 7.0a Kernel without issue. Now rebooting in to recovery mode once more so I can reinstall Legend 5 ICS FW.
Just finished reinstalling Legend 5 and all my apps.
Seems to be running a bit smoother than before., memory free is about the same, but wallpapers are still showing as zoomed in when I choose them(uploaded to externalSD or Zedge wallpapers). Any idea on how to fix this?
I use Go Launcher so I can't say for sure...
Give me a few minutes and I'll switch launchers and see.....
It does this across Go Launcher and Holo Launcher. Touchwiz seems to keep it the normal size.
Now I have to go restore my Go Launcher from backup because I hit the wrong button.....grrrr
What do these launchers do exactly, and what would some pros/cons be if I switched from holo to something like touchwiz?

The launcher is what lists your programs and shows you the home screen. Some add new features, some use less memory, some are just plain faster. You just need to try them and see what you like best. You might want to download a program called desk migrate to help move your layout between the different launchers.
Thanks. I'll see whats out there and give them a try.
Can't really seem to figure out what launcher my phone has(OEM) and where I can find other launchers.
What launchers and themes are compatible with Legend 5 ICS? I guess it would help to know what's been tested before I just go throwing whatever on this phone.
ETA: robm1911's "Stainless" theme for the Captivate is awesome looking. Not sure on compatibility, though.
I find the holo luncher very responsive and snappy. Got no problems at all really.

Hololauncher worked great for me, but it kept zooming in on my wallpapers which was a deal breaker for me.
Touchwhiz 4.0(in second post of L5 thread and listed as TW4) not only fixed that resolution problem, but it also offers more customizations and seems just as snappy as HL did. Definitely worth trying out, just use homeswitcher from the market to switch back and forth between launchers if you don't want to make a full commitment to just one.
The app that either you or rob recommended that backs up your settings and moves them between launchers did not work for me. It downloaded and installed but wouldn't do anything when I tried to run it. No biggie as I only run 2 screens, homescreen for apps and second screen for games. Not too much to set up.
Has anyone tested TW4.5 with L5? I guess it's just a re-work of 4.0 with some extra options thrown in.
have you tried go launcher ex?
i think it has the option whether to zoom in your image or letting it display normally on the wallpaper

Thanks for the reply if you dont mind can you tell me step by step exactly what you did to make it work? I too did the color modifications manually for the ICS look but my notificacions are still very dark and barely readable. I love this rom and dont want to have to swap it out for gingerbread again just because of a minor setback.
i dont recall the exact but something like settings>cm>interface>statusbar>choose color on options like clock and such, then you need to go another setting and change some more. not running a cm rom at the moment so i cant check. just dig all over the settings and youll find it im sure
