Hi,
Does anybody else have a problem with microphone when loudspeaker is on during a call? Ive had quite a few people complaining that they cant hear me when Ive got the speaker on. As soon as I switch off the speaker, they can hear me fine. Does not matter if I place the mic close to me or move it further away, they still say they have trouble hearing me with speaker on.
Any ideas if I can resolve this? Have tried AGC setting with no success.
Thanks
I have the same problem for a while. Can't use speaker phone. It was working fine before so I am thinking some of the software that I installed render the speaker useless. I will try to backup everything and then do a hard reset to see if the problem still exists.
My Friend; I have the Same Case in my Kaiser and I post yesterday this issue but with no luck . we have to find a solution for this bugs, I tried something it might improve it a little ; during the call reduce the Speaker volume to be 2 degree only and it might help. But we have to know if it is a common in all devices or not
I tried the Hard reset but it is smae and no luck yet
I just tried the method proposed in abother thread here and it fixed the problem! I disabled the Microphone AGC in the phone setting and it works fine now. Save me some hassle.
are you sure of disable AGC as I tried but it is the same result
i have the same problem, and i don't have the auto mic gain enabled. i haven't hard reset yet, but it stopped working properly after i installed resco voice recorder and/or vito voice...
Looking at another thread, it may be that the speaker is half duplex. I.e you both cant be speaking at the same time. Wonder if this can be resolved?
My Kaiser comes by default Microphone AGC disabled, and the problem persists. Any suggestion???? thanks.

Precisely you are right. I do not think by enabling/disabling the Microphone AGC does help. This is apparently a design fault. I have got my set replaced from the service center but still having the exact problem.
I wonder if HTC can fix this problem! I read from one of the threads somewhere that one of the users found the MDA Vario III works perfect...though they are also of the kaiser family....

Same problem, and i haven't modded mine at all. Using the default ATT ROM and tried speakerphone, couldn't be heard...
I had the same problem when using my TyTn and attempting to use the speaker phone. I was hoping this would be resolved in the TyTn II but it's the same problem where the person you speaking to complains they can't hear you properly.
I think its a common problem in this model as my device is brand new and same problem
Strange. I was making some tests last night, talking to another person using the speakerphone.
It worked just fine most of the time. Her voice was a little distorted due to the bad quality (maybe just bad equalization) of the speaker, but she told me she could hear me well. She told that even though I was speaking far from the mic and not that loud, the sound came just clear to her. The only thing she noticed was that I sounded like an answering machine .I also tested running some programs while speaking to her.. and then, coincidence or not, she heard some static for a second or two.
I also tested speaking while she was also speaking, and we both heard each other. It worked as a full-duplex.
I must say that it was late at night, so it was all silent. Except when my dog started barking, he was far away at the yard, and she heard him too.
I used it some days ago while driving, and she couldn't hear me. I had the radio on, and there was traffic sound and stuff. I had to turn the speaker off because I was driving and I was in a hurry, so I couldn't test any further.
Later on, I tested it with my girlfriend when we both were in my car and I was driving. She said she could hear me, but then it started echoing due to the loudness of my speaker, and that was all we could test.
I had Microphone AGC disabled in all tests.
I have the same problem... the other person cannot hear me when i am on speaker
i have the same problem!!!
This is a serious problem it appears most of us are having with the speaker phone microphone.
Has anyone logged this problem with HTC?
It looks like a s/w update will be required to fix?
I am using with an MDA Vario III UK and it seems to be working fine, I have not had any problems even after installing software or by having AVG on or off.
There is a problem if both parties speak at the same time where either person may not hear the other, I think that is to do with a duplex problem mentioned earlier in the thread.
It appears a number of people have the problem and a number do not. It may be software version related.
I am using the following software on an AT&T Tilt:
ROM version: 1.57.502.2
Radio version: 22.45.88.07H
We need to find a pattern with the problem, Can others share what software they are running and if they have the microphone problem?
Speaker problem is software
I can confirm that it is a software problem. When I recieved my MDA Vario III didn't had the speaker problem but as soon as I flashed my device with either the kaiser or tytn II rom the problem occured. Don't know how to solve it...
What is the silver button on the original handsfree kit meant to do? when i have an incoming call it wont pick up so, so is there meant to be another function to it or something? thanks
i second that also
this key doesn't answer the incoming call
is there someone else has this problem ?
anyone actally used the handsfree kit?
The wired one? I use mine all the time, answers calls here, and a double press makes it dial last number..
hi, i'am also having the same issues.
the silver button does not pick up calls.
has anyone found a solution for this?
I have the same problem
I live at HK
I have been to the Service Center,
But denied it is the handfree fault but the rom bug..
I argued with them, then changed to a new handfree,
but the problem still there....
Hi everybody,
I'm new here and very grateful for all the brilliant solutions you guys come up with to all sorts of issues with x1.
I have the same problem with my hands-free: the button doesn't work and neither does the microphone. Until now, I've thought of it as a simple matter of replacing the hands-free kit, but now I see the suggestion that this is a Rom bug! Will anyone be able to elaborate a bit on this?
thanks and best regards,
Sune
Really not sure it is real or not that is a rom or software bug,
but sure quite a number of problem of people experienced such problem!
I hope SE not to put a death ear on this issue.
It is really annoying as I quite often used the handfree.
hello everyone
the same problem on my russian x1 handsfree. Have tried to fix it with some patches - no results. Then I've bought Nokia Xpress music handsfree, and it works perfectly (and radio works too).
update
VERY SAD, but it doesn't fix the problem. bad quality of X1 jack - thats the problem. Xpress key doesn't answer the incoming call periodically too, but handsfree itself working good all the time

The first time i got to know the headphone dosen;t work in answering call, I really feel astonished. It is such a basic function of phone, how can the genius of SE dose not test it. Do them think we will buy another handfree???
Really disappointed of SE.....

Hi I'm Chris from Sri lanka,
Yes, I have the same issue! The handsfree seems to work when I remove it and re insert the jack during an incoming call, but not initially! It is very temeperamental and annoying. I also have a problem when I get an another call when I'm already on a call while using the handsfree. The current call goes to speaker phone and the party cannot hear wht I'm saying through my handsfree!
So I am forced to remove the handsfree and talk during such instances! Crazy this, especially since answering phone calls is one of the core functions of a cell phone! what's the point in having all the frills when answering a call is so tedious!
This is very disppointing, especially with such a high price tag to boot!
same case here. im really disappointed...
i guess that if i can when asus glaxy came out i will change mi xperia for that one... this phone is really "buggy"...
Same probleme here unfortunately.. I tried to remove all
additional programs related to dialing and volume,
switched to the new ROM, but no changes. Button on headset
does not work and microphone neither.
I also have same issue, both HK new stock ROM & cook rom also.
i'm form India, had purchased Xperia X1i and using Airtel network. when i connect my hands free and attend one call the moment second call come, automatically my loud speaker gets activated.
is any facing the same problem in Indai or any where else? will any one help me this.
is there any solutions?

Samething here, and the above works for me too (Remove and re insert), but SE really need to fix this for us.
I believe it's a hardware problem, bad 3.5mm jack!
My right earphone's volume has fallen to one tenth. I have it for less than a month. Good listening but bad manufacturing quality.
Personally I don't think it's bad hardware, I think it's bad firmware/rom.
Currently, with GENERIC UK ROM R2AA010, three presses of headset button dials last number, long press disconnects. Not tried incoming call yet.
I really need to be able to customize this buttons function, especially to activate Voice Command, so that I can make calls, play music etc, without the need for touching the phone. Only then, will I be able to make a button for the handlebars on my motorbike.
Want to use a fully wired system to save on battery power, rather than bluetooth. Also, in all the years of using bluetooth, I have yet to find a combination of handset and headset that work seamlessly.
So far, not impressed with the lack of functionality of this headset, but can see why it works like this. Essentially SE should have included Voice Command, then this hardware/software combination would have been shipped working effectively. I think it is merely a cost saving exercise and SE need to provide a patch and fix in their next rom release.
Short version: Having a problem with I897 using the stock earbuds where I can hear fine but the mic and pause button are not working.
Details: I have two I897's and two stock earbuds (w/ mic and pause button). One I897 is rooted with stock ROM and some AT&T bloatware removed and both earbuds have GOOD audio but NO mic or pause function. The other I897 is pure stock and both earbuds work fine.
On the "faulty" I897, I have restored to factory default (using SGS tools). Prior to reloading the data (via Titanium Backup) the earbuds have the SAME problem.
My gut says the phone doesn't have a hardware problem. I am not sure what software settings would cause this. Perhaps one of the bloatware prog's that I axed controlled that??
Any useful tips, pointers, or advice are GREATLY appreciated.
DaveCT
UPDATE: I did the Odin 1-click with no change. I also upgraded to 2.2 thinking that may restore/repair something. No joy. Maybe it IS a hardware issue.
Perhaps I should utilize that expensive "insurance" plan bought with the phone.
I'd still like to hear from anyone with advice or suggestions.
Thanks,
DaveCT
If indeed it is an issue with the phone itself, call at&t warranty department and get a replacement. No charge unless you want expedited shipping and they will sometimes waive that as well.
Worked with AT&T on the phone and they had me do a "Master reset" (is that the same as the SGS Tools reset?). Same problem. Luckily I had a local warranty location and got a new phone today. No more problems and kept the same headset.
Thanks for input.
DaveCT
Another update:
Not 100% convinced the wired mic and pause button just STOPPED working, I decided to try an experiment.
With my replacement phone, I used paid Titanium Backup to erase bloatware 1 by 1, checking the wired mic and pause button after deleting each app. I had no problem until the default mms / messaging / com.android.messaging app. I had already installed Handcent and considered it better than the default. Upon deleting the default app, the exact same problem occurred: no wired mic or pause button.
Not realizing TB doesn't backup system apps, I couldn't restore the default messaging app. I searched high and low for a copy of the original file and couldn't find it. Finally, after a TB backup, I uninstalled Handcent, reinstalled it and the problem is cured.
That begs the question: If that was my problem all along, why didn't any of the reset / "Master Reset" / Odin resets cure it?
Hopefully anyone with problems like this will benefit from my trial & error.
Regards,
DaveCT
You probably know this, but the stock ear buds don't have a microphone. Not sure if a seemingly inoperable microphone is part of your issue, but your title says "mic" so I thought I'd throw this out there.

I don't have a make or model other than they are "SAMSUNG" branded but mine definitely has a mic. The little box that holds the pause button doubles as the mic. I have used voice recorder app to verify this.
Thanks,
DaveCT
Interesting. The headset that came packaged with my new Captivate is stereo only, with a pause/play toggle.
If these are different (and I'm sure Samsung makes many), that may account for your issues.
One other thought- when you get or make a call with the headset, you hear sound through the headset, but the microphone on the phone itself is broadcasting your voice. Are you positive that in your test your voice went through the microphone on the headset and not the microphone on the phone?

Yes... mine definitely had a mic as well. Had it in my mouth a few times while recording :x
When I first got the new HU it worked fine (actually surprising clear given comments about mics here), but now bluetooth calling doesn't seem to go through the speakers although people on the other end of the line do hear me? Bluetooth streaming of music is fine though which confuses me. Also the sound isn't coming out of the phone itself and the Bluetooth options on the phone have send media and phone checked. So it is like the audio receiving of the call isn't reaching the speakers.
So I am guessing that it seems like something on the software or settings side has got a bit wrong rather than hardware (all I've done there is cut some rear speaker wires to add a hi lo convertor and add power to antenna). Main things I've done on software side since getting this are install add the Xposed Framework, Carservice (uninstalled) , Package Explorer, MTC Keys (disabled) , Xposed MTC (now uninstalled), but I have uninstalled most of this so don't understand how this could be impacting it..
Anyone had anything similar and might know what has caused the bluetooth phone to stop working?
Mine has suddenly decided to stop connecting to Bluetooth at all 90% of the time.
The Bluetooth in these radios is total and utter garbage... that's all I can say.
Went in the car today and everything worked fine!! Very confusing. I'm wondering if it was carservice or one of the other apps after all?
Not sure if it counts but there is a software fix for bluetooth in the Bluetooth mod .. Under hardware mods..
There might be a connection between the Bluetooth stack and other software coming in..
All I know is that this slight change of drivers for us has saved us from doing hardware mods and for now its working perfectly for a number of us..
Check it out if you get problems as a slight chance via settings may fix some of these problems for you.. Worth a try

Cheers- I'll keep this in mind if it happens again - it definitely seemed like a software issue.
All of a sudden, my microphone does not work in a call. Regardless of if I originate the call or answer a call, the other party can not hear me. Works fine through speaker phone or Bluetooth. I've searched as much as I can online for a fix, but no results. So far I have done the following:
-Installed a third party phone app
-Tried safe mode
-Tried to repair in the Xperia Companion app on my PC (actually made things worse - couldn't make or receive calls)
-Full restore to factory defaults (fixed the call issues, but not the mic issue)
The tests in the support app fails to hear a frequency change.
Since the microphone works in speak phone, I assume this is still a software issue and not a hardware issue (unless the speakerphone uses a different mic).
I'm stuck and could use some advice.
Thanks
I have the same problem for several months
I have the impression that I had this problem since I put underwater
the only solution I found is to put in loudspeaker or use headphones
