I have 2.0.6 GB ROOTED
And I checked software updates in settings to find A new firmware Android 4.0 about (337) M.B
The question is if i accept downloading this update via wireless .. will I preserve the Rooting option in new ICS ???
Or better to download the Firmware (621) MB from hotfile & Flash it through [mobile odin] ?! although im still aware to do something wrong to end stupidly in breaking the device =/
All i want to keep the Root as I overclock the phone to 1.6 Ghz ...
sry about the nuby question but im afraid to brick the phone +/
Thx in Advance >>>
Emmmm.... if you need the rooted phone, you need to flash custom ROM through CWM. If you'll download new ROM via Wi-Fi, you don't get root.
Just flash 4.0.x through CWM. If you haven't CWM, flash GB with custom kernel with CWM through Odin.
You can get the bricked phone only if you'll make wipe through CWM builded on the stock Samsung ROM.

You have no idea ? I'm not surprised !
Look around you and SEARCH for the things you want.Check out dr.ketan's thread for rooting and follow individual rom guides (in their respective threads) for installing ROMs.Don't just sign up and say you don't know anything and want to be spoon-fed.
Also, read the hardbrick warning posted by the devs in the dev section
Okay, first of all, small Q&A:
QA:
1) What is CWM? CWM is advanced recovery program. It's built-in in kernel. You can enter in CWM by pressing in powerd off phone home+vol.up+power.
Wht is kernel? Kernel is the core component of the phone ROM. You can flash it separate from other parts of ROM.
2) You can also flash separately the Modem (phone), CSC and UMS parts. Remember, some kernels do not support some ROMs, for example: If you'll flash the Cyanogen Mod, and then some Franco kernel, your phone will cannot start properly. Ofc. you can use CWM in this case.
3) This is scary to flash my phone? No, if you read all instructions, you can "breack it" in the only one case: you'll wipe it from the CWM builded in official samsuung 4.0 - 4.0.3 RoM.
4) What is "wipe/format user data"? This is the way to clear your personal data, and the other trash in your system. You need to wipe before installing new ROM.
5) What happens if i flash new ROM without it? Nothing critical, but some of your apps can work incorrect this way.
6) How to flash kernel from CWM? Download the kernel in *.zip file, copy it to the SD-card, restart in CWM, install zip file. If you have *tar rom-file, use the PC-Odin.
7) What is Odin? Odin is leaked samsung app for win32 for flash samsung devices by USB
8) What is mobile odin? It's better than odin for bigbro? This is the superapp made by one of the xda-dev (chainfire, if i don't mistaken). But u need the root priveledges to use it.
You need to find PC-Odin 1.85 or 1.87, and the rooted ROM with CWM in *.tar format. Close all kies services with "task manager".
Connect your phone in download mode (home+vol. down+power and when is powerd on and ask you about flashing, press "vol. up"), launch Odin. You will see yellow quadrant in odin. Then you need to click on "PDA", then selecting the downloaded ROM file, and do not forget the "pda" checkbox. Do not touch the other checkboxes, then Start.
Wait before it's flashed.
This is the basic guide, ofc.

Hi guys,
i just got a Galaxy S (international, germany) and wanted to flash Clockwork Mod so i can flash a custom rom (miui). I got it with version 2.2 so i rooted it with z4root 1.3 and then tried RomManager to get CWM on it. But it did always reboot into Samsung stock recovery mode. So i tried this Odin3 1.7 and flashed a Kernel and got into a bootloop (First this one, then i used the one promoted in this video (YouTube Video, description XDA Thread with promoted Kernel. Phone now stuck at booting (isn`t even bootlooping, just stuck at the GALAXY S GT etc. logo. I still can reach the Download Mode.
Can anyone please help how to get at least the phone working again I`m really desperatly.
Greetings from Germany & Merry Christmas
Alch
Install a new Rom with odin will make your phone boot again.
2.2 is probably too old now.
Upgrade to Gingerbread Stock using Odin. Turn on Repartition and follow the instructions to flash.
Download a Custom Kernel for the Gingerbread firmware that you flashed. Every Kernel except the stock comes with CWM Recovery.
Copy the MIUI zip file to sdcard and flash it with recovery. It should boot right up.
If you are still having bootloops, try doing a factory reset and then boot MIUI.
Don't try things that you aren't experienced with.
Anyway, download odin 1.85, flash stock Froyo, launch Kies, update to official Gingerbread, launch Odin, flash Semaphore Kernel and GG.
Merry Christmas!
How can i flash Stock Froyo/Gingerbread trough Odin? Can`t find anything usefull @ google
btw i can reach Recovery Mode (CWM / Speedmonk something)
(Kinda experienced by flashing around with my N1 for around 2 years now, but never heard about this Odin Program)
thanks for help anyway

I am not going to help you with this one. You need to get comfortable with the forum and its contents first. Read all the guides and stickies before proceeding with Firmware flashing. There are many different types of firmwares with Bootloaders which are often dangerous to flash and few without bootloaders. Hence, first go through the guides and go with the flashing only when you are confident that you are doing everything in right order.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379853
Just do what dhiru1602 says. after you flashed it with the latest Gingerbread ,
flash the cf-root kernel with odin . than download the latest galaxian/semaphore kernel, copy it to your internal sd-card and flash it with the app SGS Kernel Flasher . you can find that app on the market. good luck mate !
Thanks guys, u really saved christmas for me Just booted up the latest Miui Rom!
Happy Holidays

Hey guys.
Just bought a brand new SGS on Portugal Vodafone last week. On first day, and after read some hours here in the foruns i already rooted it and unlocked it ^^
Now a question arrises, debrand the bastard!!! i hate the Vodafone animation on the start after the first boot logo that says Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000, hate the vodafone bloatware that fuls the screens, and sincerely dont like the lots of Samgung App that sneeks around every corner of the phone.
Already flashed and debranded other phones so im not really a BIG noob on the thing, but im a really NOOB on Samsung phones. To be honest im scared with all the procedures that exists... Already backed up EFS folder for starting. attached you can find 2 screenshots i taked of the version and about screens
I can enter recovery and download modes and already noticed i cant install Clockwork Recovery ( is it the best here for the SGS, or stock one is suficient? ) because im at 3e version of android recovery and not 2e. id love to try the ROM MANAGER app...
So as im at 2.3.3 i guess i'll wait for a custom ICS, but i really would like to get ride of this bloatware, stock or custom ( i like cyanogen roms )... is there a soul that is willing to help me?
thanks in advance
Nuno
Hey,
seems you want try ICS rom. Okay here ya go:
1. First you want rooted ROM with CWM installed. Easiest way to do this is flashing a "base
ROM" like this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ficeto.u/files/JVU/JVU-RE.zip/download
(Thanks Darky and Ficeto, http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-jvu-re-gt-i9000.6558/)
2. Extract the files, you should have: Odin 1.3, .pit file and PDA.tar
3. Now open Odin, set .pit file
-tick repartition
-set PDA.tar into "PDA"
-put your phone to "Download Mode"
-make sure all is okay and your phone is detected by Odin (if isnt't, you have to install SGS drivers to your PC)
-click start
4. When flashed, wait until your phone reboots. (nice sound fx, eh?)
5. Now your phone is rooted and has CWM recovery.
6. Now download Teamhacksung's CM9 ICS .zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593
-download also Google apps
7. Put your phone to PC and copy these files to your phone internal sdcard.
8. Go to recovery and wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition
-then install .zip from sdcard
-choose your zip
-flash
-when flashed, flash Google apps
-wipe data&cache again, or calendar sync wont work
9. If it goes to bootloop (wont pass samsung galaxy bootlogo) flash again.
If Google sync won't work, you have to install Google apps fixer from CM9 thread.
Hope I helped, ask if you didn't understand something=)
You are doing this at your own risk

Done, wonderfull explanation, all runned ok fine. im at 2.3.6 now on darky's ROM. I'll make a full backup with CWM Recovery to the SD so i can back always back to this step
Deep Breath, and here we go again, lets go eat an Ice Cream Sandwich
Very glad to hear all went okay!
Teamhacksung has released new CM9 build today, try it
Also, Codename Android has quite stable ICS build, and I think it's the most stable ICS build so far.
Welcome to ICS, it tastes good!
Hello Im sorry to bother but I would really appreciate with all my hearth you could take a min to help, I got this amazing phone yesterday, of course is the gt-n7000 unlocked international version, well i have no effin clue on what to do to start learning on how to change the gingerbread to the ICS, tried to check if i could do it trough kies and gave me an error just to even hook it up, gave me MTP driver not found, please tell me how to install the new ics please
should i try with kies or a custom ROM like cm9?
so sorry im a noob
Im new too ! Had mine about 3 days now, I flashed ICS via ODIN, Then flash CF kernel booted into recovery and flashed my ROM, (CleaNote)
pretty straight forward really, Dont be confused by all the BrickBug threads (DO take them seriously tho!!!) Just avoid making a full wipe along the process.
CleaNote ROM flashes SpeedMod kernel which is safe, But flashing ICS via ODIN wipes the device anyway so no need to worry
Which ROM would you like ? Stock Samsung ICS or AOSP / CM9 based ROM ?? If you want CM9 you can use ParanoidAndroid..
If you are on GB at the moment, Just root and get CWM then flash Abyss kernel in recovery, Then reboot recovery, then flash the paranoid android ROM
(Double check just incase Im also new to the Note and still learning daily)
Don't worry bro.. you have a soft brick and you can fix it by following next steps..
1) Go to dr.ketan thread "[STOCK ROMS] N7000 All stock ROMs + install + Root guide All at 1place,Latest ICS LQ3" and download the followings:
- PC Odin
- Drivers "for Win 32 bits or Win 64 bit"
2) Download ICS ROM for the region that you are belong to in the same thread..
3) Go to dr.ketan explanation on how to flash and root in the following post.
IF YOU STICK TO THIS PROCEDURE TO THE WARD, YOU WILL INSTALL STOCK ICS ALONG WITH ROOT PERMISSION :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Install KIES to your PC and follow the instructions in the samsung user manual and web site. If it doesn't work, come back and give a shout. Personally, I wouldn't be in any hurry at all to install ICS. Gingerbread is nice and stable, and I'm guessing you would prefer to spend your time using the device rather than fixing it.

What are you talking about? How on earth is he soft bricked when he hasn't even flashed anything? Ignore this idiots statement.
If you purely want stock ics then:
If kies is having trouble connecting its usually due to out of date drivers. Make sure you have the latest version. If you do, uninstall kies and Samsung drivers from PC, reboot, reinstall latest kies. Use original USB cable plugged into back USB port on PC (one straight off motherboard). Hopefully that will pick up your device now, if still not detected, try all USB ports one at a time.
Easier method, read dr.ketans sticky in development section which lists all stock roms, select the one you want for your location and flash with PC Odin.
Sent from my Paranoid Android GT-N7000. It doesn't get much better than this!
hello,
i bought a fresh n7000 with stock ics firmware on it. i wanted to go to paranoid android.
1. i rooted the stock ics
2. found out that i need gingerbread to flash custom firmware
3. installed sdk, driver on ubuntu
4. installed heimdall, as its the odin for linux
5. downloaded N7000XXKJ4 from samfirmware.com
6. extracted it to have the single images to flash with heimdall 1.3.1
7. booted in download mode, attached the phone to usb and hitted detect device in heimdall
8. device was found
9. started flashing, first without repartition
boot.img as BOOT
param.lfs as PARAM
factoryfs.img as FACTORYFS
cache.img as CACHE
zImage as KERNEL
Sbl.bin as SBL1
hidden.img as HIDDEN
modem.bin as MODEM
10. flashing went all thru, the phones screen showed the progress also
11. phone did a reboot, after all flashing was done
12. stuck at bootscreen
13. found in the web that its normal and i should do a factory reset in the recovery (its not cwm)
14. stuck at bootscreen
15. repeated step 9. with pit file and repartition
16. same bootscreen
i know the phone is not dead, just not booting, but i have absolutely no chance to find out what to flash exactly and how to do it.
hm could i now just flash the abyss kernel and cwm recovery.bin or so and install a custom rom?
if you are now on GB then flash a kernel, either in CWM or odin and do a full factory reset along with all caches and dalvik cache.
i wouldnt recommend flashing a custom ROM until the stock rom is booting, you dont want to be covering up any underlying errors.
Also, Why did you re-partition ? Did you re-partition using a 3 file firmware (PDA, CSC, Phone) or just a single firmware - PDA ??
hm i dont know on what i am, because it doesnt boot.
i thought i eventually had to repartition because i changed from 4.0 to 2.3.5 ... i used the n7000 16gb pit file.
Well what did ODIN say ? Did it complete or did it get stuck and fail ?
You can flash a kernel in ODIN which should allow you to enter CWM and do a wipe, However you might get issues if you flash a GB kernel over ICS Firmware and vice versa
heimdall ran complete through, said its all fine and the phone rebooted at the end of flashing as it should be. seems all perfect.
the issues i get can not be worse?! if i would now flash a gb kernel, even if there is ics under the hood, the phone would also just not boot?!
I dont know really, Ive never tried, nor do i intend to lol.
But i imagine GB is now on your phone considering it all passed without fail So i guess you should try to flash a kernel and then do a full wipe and see if it boots then
chances are there are some ICS files left on the system preventing it from booting.
and following the guides on xda im not allowed to flash the other kernel with heimdall/odin.
i should use the cf-kernel for my firmware and flash it with the bat-script, is this correct?
Just flash this in ODIN and you will be fine
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/GingerBread-speedmod-kernel-n7000-k2-12-Odin.tar
boot into recovery, do a factory reset, then clear cache partition, then go to advanced and clear dalvik cache, then reboot
then report back
ok. now i have the yellow triangle. i wanted to avoid this.
BUT it looks very promising. clockword mod is starting. did the wipes. and when i reboot it boots directly in cwm. i think this is good atm.
i have to leave at work now. tomorrow morning i can flash a rom with cwm right? and if i flash an ics rom, then i have to flash a ics kernel, too?!
Dont worry about the triangle, Use this app to remove it https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/eu.chainfire.triangleaway-47fe5bbd55070e4eddce741c0ef13110.apk
Like i said above, Make sure the phone boots before flashing any other ROMs. If you want to upgrade to ICS you will need to flash ICS in ODIN, Unless you want to use a CM9 / AOSP based ROM like Paranoid Android, In this case you will stay on GB, Just full wipe and flash ROM in CWM
EDIT: I mis read your post, Your phone is not booting, But only booting into CWM, In this case, try a custom ROM, Nothing to extreme just a simple GB ROM and see if it boots properly then
thanks so much!
flashed checkrom notehd via cwm. boots clean and nicely up.
i flashed/rooted some phones before htc hero, hd2, zte blade. but none of them, even the hd2 with its windows conversion was as unclear as the n7000. i think because in former times the developers wherent as many as actual, and there were much less guides/tuts/howtos which made an user less unsecure.
nevertheless, your support is gorgeous: friendly, fast and ultracompetent.

First of all, HI guys and sorry for my irregular english.
I read since a long time XDA Forums to prepare me in flash and root methods for my galaxy note.
At now, i'm using this stock rom:
[ICS][4.0.3][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5
+
CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.6-CWM5.tar + SuperSU
but i came from a stock rom: N7000UBKK2 with default kernel KK1 from Samsung and Movistar. and i have only a nandroid backup of my default Samsung/Movistar rom.
I have another gingerbread samsung stock rom, for emergency cases:
N7000UBKK8_N7000WEKK1_N7000PETKK1_HOME.tar.md5
But my point is:
I wish test some roms, before to decide which one use in dual boot system:
- Stock 4.0.4 (LRG or you suggest me LRK or another more recent ?)
- AOKP
- Criskelo
- Chrack
- Paranoid
- Cyanogen 9
And i have ready to use: Odin 1.87, Odin Mobile, SuperSU (if is necesary), Abyss 4.2 (CW/Red) for recovery, Abyss 4.2 CW for odin and CF-Root for LRG (if is necesary i can find one for LRK or another recent)
But i'm confused about how exactly do that. Yes i know there are many... MANY topics about that but, I only need a bit of help guys to understand the exactly process and avoid EMMC BUG...
If i understant correctly, i must follow this method, please correct me if i'm grong:
01 - Check if i'm root and settings are in depuration + unkown sources
02 - Because i'm using an ICS Kernel i need first downgrade to Abyss for continue
03 - Reboot in Recovery and flash Abyss4.2 CW/Red, after "reboot recovery" and make wipes
Which one should i use for this CW or Red Version?
...
But after this i have problems, because i have ever red: before flash a custom rom you need a same base. Then ok i think for use for example CM9, or Paranoid, or Criskelo, I need a 4.0.4 rom then i have a:
[ICS][4.0.4][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_N7000XXLRB_HOME.tar.md5
Ready to flash but...
If a this moment following the previous steps, i'm in recovery of Abyss CW/Red:
Should i reboot using this Abyss kernel in download mode to flash a stock LRG ?
...
Or in another reality, is not needed flash Abyss to flash a stock rom using Odin ?
I wish first test the Stock 4.0.4 before any other custom to make a base point of comparison
...
And after, using 4.0.4 LRG + CF-Root, is safe use install from zip file in recovery to flash any other rom like CM9 for example ? or i need use abyss recovery (before flash it using CR-Root recovery) to flash any other rom (ICS) ?
Again i hope you can help me with these questions, and really sorry is the text is so long but i prefeer to know rightly how to procced before brick my phone, because i still waiting for a JIG (you know, for emergency...)
Tnks to all.
First of All You need to know that there is no need for the same base to flash the ROM.
Second thing You have to use Abyss Redpill 4.2 Original Logo Recovery(It uses GB Kernel) If you are not going to downgrade to GB and want to flash on top of your current ROM
Third Whenever you want to flash CM9/AOKP/AOSP first downgrade to GB(Pre rooted Rom) OR GB then Root it and then flash the rom by going it to CWM recovery.
Fourth thing is Never flash Abyss using PC Odin.
Proper Way to Flash CM9/AOSP/AOKP for a clean install (You will lose data)
Download a prerooted GB Rom from here ===> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Reboot your phone is Download Mode. (Vol Down+Home+Power)
Open Pc Odin on your Pc/Laptop
Connect your phone to PC via USB Cable
A Small Box in Left Upper turns Yellow. It means your phone is recognized by Odin
Now Select GB File under PDA Tab (Do not change any settings)
Start Flash
YOU WILL HAVE A GB ROM ON YOUR PHONE WITH ROOT
Now Go to Recovery
Install Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Flash Gapps
Do All 3 Wipes (Cache/Dalvik/Data)
Reboot System.
you might wanna root first and backup efs before jumping to any rom that is different csc then you previous one.

Tnks to all, at now i'm testing some roms and kernels, looking for a "perfect" mate for my paranoid android (tableted rom), and in my tests i still looking for a decent kernel because (may this is my imagination but...) CF-Root LRG kernel in LRK Rom (Chrack's Rom) consume excessively batery but i will test in an ordinary day because may is not problem from rom, this should be a problem from kernel...
I read before: SpeedMod kernel was developed just for this situation: low batery comsumption + high perfomance...
