I've been using a fabric sleeve, left over from an old XV6800, with my Droid 2. Kept the phone looking like new. I've picked up a D4 to replace it but it doesn't quite fit in the old sleeve.
I'm wondering, does anyone make a similar sleeve that would fit the D4? This is not a bag and I don't want that sort. It's a fabric sleeve, with a stitched seam around it and an open pocket into which the phone slides. No velcro, clasps, drawstrings or any other kind of closure.
I generally prefer not to put cases on a phone, and usually don't even bother with a screen protector. I hate holsters (more than one phone got dropped when the holster caught on something). So being able to sleeve it and put that into my pocket has worked well for me. The D4 being a big bigger is still reasonable for my pockets (barely).
I just need to find a similarly protective sleeve that'll fit the Droid 4. Any suggestions?
Bump. All those reads and no ideas?
What other phones are closest in size to the D4? Might be able to find something that way.

Well, I have no experience with what you're describing. Maybe if you post a picture or a link?

This thread shows that the D4 is extremely close in size to the Droid X, so that might be a historical baseline.
Fits perfectly:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/280630654361?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_5264wt_905
Don't use it though. I've wrapped mine in Best Skins Ever. I use the Mofi for my camera.
I'm still using the "fabric" sleeve that was meant for a Droid Pro. Its black, and has MOT's, VZW's, and Google's logos on it. It has a draw string to close the open end too, but I never use it.
I used the sleeve on my Droid 3, and now I am using it on my Droid 4. Fits either perfectly.
I got the sleeve for free from a Motorola rep, when they were at my local Verizon store. They had a whole box of them, they were giving away (one per person).

I'd prefer to get one without a drawstring or other closing feature. Here's a picture of the one that came with my ancient XV6800:
It's sort of an ultrasuede kind of material. It's held up quite well for being more than 5 years old. I can use it with the D4 now but the phone sticks out about 1/2". The nice part is I can slide the phone in/out of the sleeve while it's in my pocket. The point here is it protect the phone without interfering with regular use. All 3 phones I've used with this still look brand new, no scratches or wear anywhere on them. This without having to add a screen protector or attached case.

The one I use, has a built-in screen wiper (made of some really soft material). It wipes the screen each time you pull the phone in or out.
Don't laugh... Find a local Quilting shop. My mother is a quilter and just about every store I've ever taken her to has had several different sized sleeves "similar" to what you are looking for. I believe they were pattern sleeves or something like that.

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has come across a protective case for the XDA. The sort of thing I want is rubber not leather............
any ideas
Thanks
I saw some in an outdoor shop and will probably get myself one as soon as I can find the time to go there again.
They were meant to be used for digital cameras or portable audio players I think. They were at least rainproof, (one even claimed to be submergible!) I think they would provide the shelter required for carrying the device around in everyday use. The only problem is that you'll have to get the XDA out of the case to actually use it.
Martin
Thanks
Hi Martin, thanks for the reply.
I have found a case similar to what you have described at www.ruggedpeak.com. they seam a little expensive bur probably cheaper than a new XDA !!
XDA Hard Case
O2 sell a hard case for the XDA - It's a metal case lined with foam, that clips over the XDA and makes it pretty much shock proof - I have one, and it's GREAT!

I think this page might help, there is a phone number there for you to cal, lifetime warranty as well I think.

Hi people Ive found a cheap and very strong case for our device.
See this link here http://www.outdoortrends.de/index.html?d_DE_39622_700_Deuter_Handytasche_Phone_Case_M6646.htm
Ive used the s model(antanna hanging out) for 1 year but its a tight fit thus heavy pulling of the zip every time to close it and it has survived a year of this treatment and still not a tear and only some paint came off the zipper.
They now have the M model which fits the Xda perfectly totally enclosing it. It offers no protection but the thing I like about this case is I can wear it horizontally on my belt with the screen facing inward and thats very comfortable.
If you see it in an outdoor store give it a try its cheap enought
Hey guys...i bought a similar case on ebay... Similar to This. The concept was great, it is lined with a nice padded feltish. materal but the closing latch did a huge number on my phone. Luckily (Ironicly) my screen $hit the bed, and T-Mo is replacing the phone for me.. My words of advice, find out what their return policy is on the merchandise and if you don't like it see if you could exchange it for something different. I didn't do that and I am stuck with my case
I would be willing to sell it for $25 (buyer pays shipping) to someone that deoesn't have paint on their XDA. I didn't like it because I like my stuff always looking new. anyone interested PM me.
is that the case which doesnt have button holes and covers the whole phone with the airel sticking out the hole at the top.
i had one of these on my 1st xda and ti made a horrible mark near my ariel and the catch scuffed up all the side and it kept popping open and all.
the PROPORTA one is a hell of a lot better that kept my 64mb XDA mint as and still looks mint today not a scrach on it just fingerprtints all over the screen and sides lol.
get the proporta one much better then that other metal case.
gaz
I totaly agree the Proporta case is a little gem they on eBay I expect thats where I picked mine up from
Anyone bought one? i figured $6 a piece...y not
Sent from my wifes shift because its way better than my hero.
I got mine today. Bought it from a seller off ebay. I can't post links yet else I would show you which one. Sorry.
It makes the phone kinda thick and its definitely not rubberized just cheap flimsy plastic. The front cover on mine does not stay on. looks like it was miss manufactured and is missing a tab. Contacted the seller and he's sending me a new front cover. Hopefully this one is better. The back piece stays on pretty solid. In fact I'm scared to take it off. Feels like I might break the tabs on it if I do. Makes it hard to slide the keyboard out lots of resistance but my phones slide is pretty resistive to began with.
I bought one on ebay as well. Maybe it's just my luck, mine works fine, both the front and back cover stays on. I am not sure what the previous poster means by it's not rubberized, mine pretty much feels like the back of the shift but a bit more smooth/less rubbery, if that makes sense.
It does make the shift thicker, but to me it makes sense because it protects the camera lense & screen when you put the phone flat on a surface. But it does make the power button harder to press when I wasn't used to the case. FYI it's about 2mm thinner than the Seidio case, according to my measurement against the measurement someone posted for the Seidio case.
The only thing I don't like about it is that there is a slight bow on the right side of the front cover. You can't tell by looking but it doesn't stay against the side of the screen and there's a slight give when you press on it.
Wife and I got ours, no problems what so ever, sweetg colors too! Def is rubberized

How does this feel in your hands. On my shift, when I am messaging for awhile with my hardware keyboard, the hard edge on the back of the screen starts to dig into my hand, and I often will hit the power button. Has anyone who has gotten one of these rubberized cases noticed this before (or after) they got this case? Can anyone take a few picture of these with the keyboard open please?
thanks!
I just got this case because my prior case (the one in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926269) was a bit bulkier than I wanted. However, that just means that now the whole issue of hitting the volume key is back.
Oh well. I'll keep this one for a bit to see if I get used to it or if need to switch back to my other one. FYI for everyone, I got the black version and this has a few bits of plastic pieces that got baked onto the back during the manufacturing process. Not a big enough deal for me to exchange an $8 case over, but just so you're aware there might be some minor quality issues.
What bag are you using to carry yours around town? I have a laptop messenger style bag but its too big. Post pics or links. thanks
My NC's actually in a (hand-made) padded fabric sleeve, so I can toss it in any bag with no worries. The messenger bag I use is a little bigger than a drawing pad, so it might be close to what you're looking for. Sadly, it appears Yak Pak doesn't make it any more, but the Fiona Crossbody looks like it's a similar size (10"x11").
looking to get something too.

Case Logic PDVS 4 holds the reader plus accessories, with a seperate neoprene sleeve for the NC.
Amazon.com had a decent selection of accessories for the NC, including cases. I haven't selected on yet but I need to.
I never thought of trying a portable DVD player case but the length and width are similar and it leaves room for other things. Good idea.

Simple Overload
I have a hemp messenger bag, its made by the shoe co. SIMPLE. Pretty nice light weight and has lots of compartments, one being padded since its next to the laptop compartment, it is split into two compartments that perfectly sized to fit the NC. I see by searching its called "Overload". It also has a inlet for headphones that can string from your device out the side of the bag, in case your biking somewhere or walking and don't want to carry it openly. I use this for my ipod sometimes.

Not sure if that's something you want but I got a neat case from eBay:
Faux Leather Case
It seems sturdy and fits perfectly. Comes with free screen protector. Only SD card is not accessible when in the case.
Timbuk2 iPad bag is nice and something I'm going to upgrade to. But at the moment, just using a Targus netbook bag. I like it cause it's compact, lots of pockets and well padded, but don't expect to fit anything bigger than a spiral notebook in there in addition to your Nook.
I use a Ben Sherman bag I got for cheap at Marshalls. Its originally made for an ipad, but the NC with a case fits perfect in there.
I use a norwood air-tex bag I got on ebay. Its the same one I linked but mine doesn't have any logo on it. I love this bag the shoulder strap is very comfortable. I carry my netbook, nook(in its case), backup battery, external hard drive, charging cables for my nook and netbook, usb cables, sdcards, flash drives etc. and I have plenty of space left for anything else I might want to carry. I could also fit two text books with all of this if I wanted to. Its prefect for what I wanted. If you can find one for sale I suggest you buy it.

Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack
the Belkin Kindle bag for around $7 on Ebay.
On Amazon right now you can find the Poetic Dura Book leather case with auto-sleep/wake function for $9.99. That is a $20 - $30 dollar savings. I have an Amazon Prime account, which means I bought it yesterday at 4:00PM & received it today at 2pm for an additional $2.99 for next day air saver shipping via UPS.
You can find the deal here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAKLMUC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
There is no picture on the page, but I can confirm receiving the DuraBook, which is nice as it doubles as a removable device sleeve & has a handstrap on the back of the insert for easy reading in portrait. It attaches via Velcro, which allows for the device to sit in the stand/cover portion of the case in either landscape or portrait.
This has all of the camera & speaker cutouts with open access to the buttons, pogo pins & ports. It is a GREAT case & would be worth 30.00 in my opinion, which it normally retails for (the Note 10.1 DuraBook is 25.00 on sale right now) so it is an amazing deal for $9.99 USD. Prime Members get free second day shipping as it is Prime eligible, don't wait only 11 left!
BTW, I am in no way affiliated with Poetic. I am not receiving anything from them, nor have I ever reviewed or been asked to review any of their products.
As the Amazon page lacks pics, I will up a few for you to check out.

Hi, thanks for showing the case, it looks really good!
Just one concern, is the case material strong enough to hold the tablet in portrait mode when you are working on it, say typing or tapping on the tablet?
Some of the rotating cases (for ipads) that I've used in the past wobble quite a bit when in portrait (and to some extent in landscape mode as well) when you press on the tablet.
Thanks!
Really wish those straps inside the case were blue instead of red :/
Seems like they went out of their way to make this thing ugly. Good deal though.

Leather...?
Not a bad case for the money,,,I just wish they knew the difference between Leather and Pleather. Don' call it leather when it's clearly NOT!!!
Can someone enlighten me as to what the point of the strap at the bottom of the case is? Mine has a piece of velcro on the one side but not the other, and since there is no cloth on the inside of the case I had to use some Velcro circle stickies I had laying around in order to get it to stay shut...maybe I missed something?
Pictures of what I am referring to are attached.

Mine, fits like this. It's as snug as a bug in the case and no more pressure or pushing is going to make it any better. The buckle just doesn't clasp correctly
I have that case, and it only happens for me when the lower corners are not fully seated (depressed) in their holders. I know you said it is snug as a bug, and if that is the case, yours is definitely made different as mine clasps as in the first photo.
Thanks.. It's clearly defective.
I opened the case up and just put the N10 on it so there is 0% chance of anything keeping it from closing how it was intended.
It clearly is made wrong. There is no way that is clasping no matter what. Pisses me off. $15 product and they know most people won't go through the trouble of going somewhere to ship it back, paying for shipping (and then waiting for them to credit you back) and hope they get it right the second time.. It still holds, especially with the little elastic strap but I'd prefer that extra little security.. Oh well..
I have no luck with cases. My Moko case for the N7 had the magnet improperly placed and the smart cover feature never worked. (it did work though I tested it with a magnet)
Looks like that clasp isn't bent enough. The rigid material underneath is probably plastic whereas metal could perhaps be bent a little more to adjust the fit. Bummer.
I massaged down strip of foam that runs on that edge there and it's sliding over better. Not like in their photo but it's more than it originally was.. It's usable and think once the foam softens up a bit more it'll be even better.
It stays shut and is protected ... Others have complained about the same thing in reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6X3ZM6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I see the complaints you're talking about. I'd send a picture of mine, but it's at home. I have to sort of flex the cover down while pulling up a bit on the hook to get it closed. The fit is rather tight, so I am trying to lessen the wear of repeated use. When closed the lid dips down just slightly at the hook. It would be a hassle to return. Maybe they would acknowledge a quality control problem and send a free replacement under the 3-year warranty? You're certainly not alone as Amazon attests.
I'm sorry to hear that. Mine fits perfectly. Smart Cover works pretty well to although I'm not used to it yet. My only complain is that while playing with it, the device gets hotter than usual.
I remember that in the beginning the inner tabs were very tight so I bent them to be able to remove the device more easily. I know it's difficult with that tab particularly. You can try using a heater if it's in fact plastic.
Silly question, did you move the elastic band so it's on the outside when closing the case?
Just ordered my Nexus 10 this morning and seriously considering this case...Should I do it? How reliable is their warranty if the case starts peeling or something? Should I worrya bout the tablet getting scratched while putting it on or getting it in kickstand mode so I can type on it in class?
Thanks!
In my modest opinion, the case is awesome. I own mine for about two months now. To be honest, I don't care about the warranty for a 15$ thing except if you have to return it because it's clearly defective.
I like the case, but I found another one in Amazon that I might like better. If I find it again I'll tell you.

I'd say do it. I wasn't going to use a case at all, but I realized I needed one for travel. I really liked that this one didn't have a bezel. I thought I'd use it just for travel, but I've never taken it off.
I mean, I mainly use the nexus without it, especially for gaming. But exactly, I need it for carrying it in the backpack. And the stand functionality is awesome fit browsing. This is the third case I have of this type. I use another one with my note 2 and with the transformer before if this tablet.
