My initial advice is take back of, remove battery, wrap in paper towel and put in a bowl of uncooked rice, this will suck all the moisture out, you need to leave it there for 48 hours, and in the meantime pray like hell!

Hi. So i have had a broken G1 just sitting on my dresser and was wondering if it can be repaired. Here's the thing. The reason it is not working anymore is because I dropped it on the floor of my flooded basement. Mind you, it does turn on, but the screen stays black. You do notice that the screen is on because it turns slightly gray. There have been instances where I have not touched it in months (just happened today) and it would fully work, but then after a couple of hours playing around with it the screen goes gray. So do any of you think that this can be repaired (at no cost). haha. I have a working g1 but it'd be nice to have 2! Thanks in advance.

It sounds like some things got damaged inside the phone, there really isn't a free way because you'll probably need to replace some parts. But there's someone in the forum that sells them pretty cheaply (don't remember their name)
I thought so. But just thought I'd ask the pros. Haha. Like I said, I already have one, so it's not that serious to try to fix it. Maybe I can sell it for cheap. At least I'll get something out of it. But thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.
I've got a similar issue, don't know if anyone can help but...Came out of work one day turned on my phone and started having issues with the widgets and a few apps on my phone (A2SD). Got home tried rebooting and recovering from a nand backup but didn't help, re flashed which didn't help, rebooted 1 more time to find that my phone would boot past 2 splash screens and then just stop at a black, backlit screen. I have it under warranty, no water damage, it was dropped aaaages ago but worked fine and this problem happened like 3 months after I dropped it so...Any ideas anyone?
It might be the flex cable inside the G1, the same thing happened to my sisters, she dropped it and you could only see the backlight light up. By the way, the Flex cable is a Pain in the ass to replace... well at least it was for me.. Good Luck
But wouldnt that mean none of the screen would work?
after water damage
My G1 fell in the bath tub while showering my kids. I quickly took the battery out, blow dry it and let dry for a month. Now, it turns on but each time i hit any button it gives a power off option.
I have taken it apart and cleaned the keyboard with alcohol. but still same problem.
Did i forgot to clean something or i need to replace a part?
please help!!

the problem is not the phone drop into the water, the problem start when u turn the phone on after u take it out from the water, so still wet and if u turn it on u gonna damage the circuits, so what i do its let the cell phone get dry not with a dryer ok, just leave the cell phone on a place is warm enough for like a day or 2 if u can and later try to turn it on maybe u get lucky and nothing get damage just get the steam it screen well thats my theory it works for me most of the time

put in in a bowl of rice to remove the moisture. its probably a short thats causing the keys to be recognized as the power button. check for anything that could be responsible for the short

The rice absorbs moisture. You may remember seeing rice in salt shakers to prevent the salt becoming damp and blocking the shaker

Yeah it might be too late for the rice thing but I suspect the wifi module probably got fried. Usually one would take the battery out and stick it in a rice bowl/bag for a few days.
Just last week a friend dropped her iPhone in the toilet at my house.
Put it in a zip lock bag of rice. Working fine the next day.

I'll still be working on stuff for mini... just won't be able to test till i repair it later on
hopefully a xperia neo, failing that a galaxy s nothing too fancy or expensive
hah, you forgot your sdcard inside, 2GB Sandisk Saw it in the last picture
Thanks for the photos! now i acctually see the phone has no cooling except that metal shield under the battery... not good stuff when OCed :/
Edit: i disassembled a K850 once just for quriosity - damn that thing is packed up tight, so difficult to get appart. Looks like our Mini dissasembly is pretty straight forward. At least it looks like so
Ouch! I have an idea, you know how they fixing ps3 with yellow light of death? Try heating up main board with hair dryer, maybe its just broken soldering ? It happens a lot I fixed ps3 that way, and my old Nokia that just died (ps3 "just died" too, in a middle of a game...)
Look for tutorials about ps3 on YouTube, it will give you idea about how to do it
Hair dryer won't do a thing, as it won't melt the soldering on the board... he should use an industrial one that blows air that 500 degrees Celsius hot . But that will do more harm than use, he could **** up his entire phone by doing that.
Its not loose connections, its the actual digitizer, so thanks for the tip but it won't work
Yeah its fairly easy to take apart, 4 screws and the back comes off

Yeah, I thought it won't work either, but somehow hair dryer did the trick with my ps3
You got lucky then, and who knows for how long will that fix work... if its out of warranty then i understand you
@domcale: it's 2 months since fix now, but it's annoying because cooling fans start to work 3-4 minutes after I switch it on, so I'm mentally prepared for the moment it will die
hey,
I dropped my Samsung galaxy S Advance into my soup...(don't ask how..)
I dryed it with a paper but then i noticed that my sound stopped working and sometimes the screen responds really slow or not at all.
then i started using a hair dryer after i removed my SIM-card, sdcard and battery but it's still the same.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Put it in a bag of rice over night. The rice should absorb any remaining liquid. That or Put it in abag along with some of those little packets of beans you get with new shoes.

You must to put it in rice immediately, do not try it to use it, it was recommended to removed the battery immediately.
I'm saved 2 phone with that solution, Nokia X2 and Nokia E51.
I put it in a bag of rice immediately, now waiting for the results.
Thanks for the fast replies guys!:highfive:

glad for you!
this is also a proof that our phone is well built. One night i lost my phone. 5 hours later i found out that it's missing, so came back looking for it. Found it in mud underneath the snow (it was snowing that night), could find it just because it was still ringing!. I immediately took the battery out, and when i came home i disassambled the phone to let it dry. 48 hours later i assembled it and it was working properly, but the job was not over cuz some vehicle obviously run over it while it was on the ground, so gorilla glass shattered. After replacing gg it's perfect again!

you were lucky that you are not rust, hence the rice does not save you.
---------- Post added at 09:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ----------
rice aside, if the terminal is oxidized by water necessary to clean the damaged electronic connections with isopropyl alcohol before drying.
If you hace oxidation problems, maybe you can try the specific products to remove oxidation.
hey guys
i have got a problem with my phones's speaker... the first time i went to the pool with the phone i used just 10 seconds under the water to capture movie, after i got the phone out i couldnt hear anything after while like 3 or 4 hrs it became normal (tried sucking it -.- ) but the quality became shi*ty then after one week the phone got heated like it was burning after playing some games so i decided to put it under water for a second i also covered the speaker with my thumb but i guess it didnt work and again water went inside and now after two days the speakers quality is as bad as possible i cant understand anything from songs and its so low...
I just wanted to ask did u get the any problems like this ?
how can i solve it ? should i use the warranty to change the speakers? its a waterproof phone right they have to change it right?
So when u sucked it, that's when you couldn't understand the music? If so, you may possibly damaged the speaker.
Maybe try blowing it instead this time and maybe dry with a hair dryer??
Hope you get it sorted

im not sure if that was sarcastic or not... but anyway, i tried them before and they made to become louder but the quality is still bad

do not blow dry it with anything, it will damage the phone, especially the melting the glue.
just let it sit and it will dry itself.

IP57 = can be immersed in water up to 1m for 30 minutes without harmful quality of water ingress occurring.

If quality is bad, as opposed to just volume, you may have punctured the speaker membrane by sucking on it. If that's the case, you're screwed. Don't put it in water again until you know otherwise.
Also, I'd be careful putting it in water when it's hot, I've heard people have had the glass shatter by warming/cooling it too quickly, it's no different to any other glass, after all.
