Hello all, two questions. First, how do I get rid of a theme I no longer want installed? Second, what is the process for wiping cache and data without a factory reset? Much obliged.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA
In order to do both you will need cwm installed on your phone. In order to change roms you flash the zip file of the rom that you want to use by selecting the 'install zip from sd card' option in cwm. Obviously this means that you need to have the rom zip file already downloaded and on your sd card. Don't forget that most f the roms out there for the revo are for a specific version of the Verizon software on your phone. (ex. A phone running zv8 will likely not run a rom based on zv6/zV7 etc.)
Also, to wipe the cache you can also boot into cwm and select the wipe cache option. To wipe dalvik cache go to the advanced option and you will find it under there.
Thanks for sharing

I was wondering how to perform a wipe as well. Thanks Smiller5331!
So I'm running BO, I flashed dread ginger and no longer want it. I booted into cwm wiped both but still icons are left as well as the boot animation. Do I need to just attach to the PC and remove zip from sd card?

To remove unwanted theme you have to re flash BO.
Boot into recovery.
Do backup.
Wipe data, delvac, cache
Flash ROM.
Go to advance restore. Pick your latest backup. Select restore then restore data.
This will bring you back to how phone was before but without theme.
I use this method every time I flash a ROM or change something. Don't have to reload apps or anything.

Another question, when you say to wipe data my only option does a factory reset. Does that not wipe cwm? How do you install your backup. Do you have to reinstall just cwm from the market, boot into recovery and then install the backup?

You do ALL these steps in cwm. Do not use factory reset from the phones menus!

It doesn't do a factory reset, it just clears everything prior to flashing a ROM. You must flash ROM before rebooting. Just follow the instructions. I have done it dozens of times.

If you want to remove a theme, there is a stock theme in the themes area. High limit made it. It will put you back to basic BO.
the only way to truly get back to a fresh out of the box feel I'd to flash a tot. It will replace everything except data. Then just go to settings, privacy, fact data wipe. Or shut down the phone, and turn it back on while holding the power and Vol down buttons. Then use the power button to confirm twice. That should do it.
Enjoy

A fact reset is just that. Android stores user data separate from the system. So a reset puts the ROM back to its most basic form with out any user data. It's all the same for Android itself. If your on VZW ROM (ie v4, v7, v8, v9) then it will do
a typical fact reset. If on BO, then it will reset BO.

By doing an advanced restore of only the data that you saved during the full backup.
1 Boot into CWM
2 Do full backup
3 Wipe data, delvac, and cache
4 Re flash the ROM
5 Do advanced restore of your data only
6 Restart
Your phone should look just as it did before re flash less theme, all apps remain.
As I said before, l've done this many times without issues.

Mine are saved to the _ExternalSD/clockworkmod/backup folder.
You can copy the backup using RomToolbox or ES File Explorer.

I would say a nandroid backup after full wipe, stock rooted.

Thanks. I think it would only wipe your data/factory reset in recovery. Are you using clockwork? Should leave sdcard alone. You could use titanium backup to save everything prior to wiping. If you unsure don't reset just on my account.

If it's the same version that you already have, then there's no point...
If it's a newer version, then go for it...

Flashed it without the GAPPS and upon rebooting they weren't there. I just downloaded them from the link, flashed, and now I'm setting them up. I guess it deletes all of your login info. No biggie, easy stuff.
Sorry, if you're doing a full wipe, then you will need to reflash the gapps. I seldom wipe on the nightlies...

Oh no I didn't wipe, that's why I thought it was strange. No biggie.

its a RM shortcoming.. you have to select gapps at that prompt or reboot into recover and manually flash just the ROM.. otherwise your gapps dont survive

I was looking at the Cyanogen site, and few people have been commenting on some of the latest nightlies removing the gapps (presumably overwriting the whole system folder).

any help would be appreciated [email protected]
probably a corrupt sd partition.
cwm is known top do that..
try formatting your sd card after saving the content to your pc first.
after format move stuffs back
I would go ask this question in the mytouch 4G section you will probably get better answers.
Well I have had the Revolution for about a week now. I have rooted it and downloaded the CWM. Also have read that CWM for revo will soon work with ROM Manager. Any new news on this. I want to change ROMS and Im not sure how else to do so.

To flash a ROM in CWM:
1. Download ROM and move to your SD card
2. Reboot into by either downloading an app or by powering down the phone and then pressing Power and Volume down until you are prompted to wipe phone data. Press power button twice and you will boot into CWM.
3. In CWM make a backup (inside backup and restore menu)
4. After the back up wipe user data, cache, and dalvik (dalvik located in advanced menu)
5. Go to flash a zip --> choose zip --> choose the zip --> Select yes
6. After it flashes go back and wip data, cache, and dalvik again
7. Reboot
8. profit

Full instructions, from receiving the phone for the first time to Gingervolt:
1. BEFORE ROOTING, install any OTA updates. (Settings> About phone> Software Update)
2. Root. I used the latest SuperOneClick, with psneuter. (Zergrush doesn't seem to work after updating) Ignore the warning that says psneuter doesn't usually work on devices on 2.3.3+.
3. Use RevoToolkit to install CWM. DO NOT use ROM Manager, as it will leave you unable to leave recovery.
4. Get everything ready for flashing:
4a. Get Gingervolt and put it in your SD card.
4b. Make sure that the device has 4G enabled. (Settings> Wireless & Networks> Mobile networks> System select> Network mode: LTE/CDMA)
5. Reboot into recovery. RevoToolkit has a button for it. You can also hold Power and Volume Down buttons while the device starts up.
6. In CWM recovery, make a backup. (backup and restore> Backup)
7. Wipe user data. (Wipe data/Factory reset)
8. Install Gingervolt. (Install zip from sdcard)
9. Reboot
10. Complete initial setup.
11. ???
12. PROFIT
Enjoy!

Is there an sd card in your phone? Dumb question I know but I have to ask.
lol yea there is an sd card. don't think there's anything wrong with it and it's not an issue of not enough space on the card cause i still have like 14gb of room left on it.
What are you doing with that anyways I have never heard of anyone using it?

I'm stuck in a CWM Recovery boot loop.
- ran Mt's Root&RecoveryAIO - Root and CWM Recovery
- backed up my phone with CWM Recovery
- put GingerVolt on my SDcard
- did a factory reset
- after reboot phone loaded directly into CWM Recovery
- Installed GingerVolt from SD (zip) restarted and I was back in CWM Recovery. Restarted again. Back in...
- Restored backup didn't work either
I cannot access my phone via usb. It Blue screens my PC or shows up as a internet connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks I appreciate your help I did use that zip. Definitely a noob though, I couldn't find anything related to that script in any of my searches.
It's buried somewhere in the development section I just keep it in my dropbox so I don't have to search for such a common problem.
I tested something to try and fix the factory reset from the settings menu but it didn't work so for now that's the only fix.

This worked out perfectly for me, thank you. I just have one question for you. Does this take me back to pure stock straight out of the box? I only ask because I noticed SuperUser is still on my phone. I would like to take my phone back to "straight out of the box" if possible. Is there such a thing after a phone has been rooted?
Scratch that, it still has root. I will just stick with root for now.
Follow this exactly to get your phone back to stock. If it fails around 10% then get a different USB cable.

How? It´s first time i will install a ROM i have root and clockworkmod. And i need to wipe data factory reset. That will not erase everithing on the phone?. If i wipe data how i will install the ROM. Please just do a quick tutorial.
Thanx
Since you are rooted already, copy the ROM to your SD Card go into recovery mode and wipe data wipe partition go into advance mode wipe dalvik cache then come back select install from SD Card the install. You will only loose your apps but your files and media remains. Remember the first you flash it won't be successful cos of changes in partition but don't worry remove battery, go into recovery and flash again and you will be successful.

Factory reset only resets phone settings, it doesn't actually wipe the SD card clean of all files, so feel free to reboot into your current ROM and then transfer the Zip file, then reboot, wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache and Factory Reset
OR, try a different PC or different USB port to mount from within Clockworkmod. Mount USB should work OK.
Thx all. Now i free to test. Close thread please!
