Why dont you guys put your apps in the market?

Is there a reason? I've used several nice apps from here, but just curious why you dont give them more exposure.

A lot of them are on the market, they are just posted here too.

It costs money to get on the market. Xda is free. Would you rather get something for free here, or pay for it on the market?

I think I remember reading in another thread that there was a fee you have to pay before putting apps on the market. I assume it doesn't matter if the app is free or not.

Thats true.
Its like 20$+ to be a developer for Android.
The devs may not be sure if they'll get that 20$+ back after putting it on the market and it doesn't sell as much... so they post it here

As a Dev $25 doesnt really matter to potentially get more exposure so I don't understand why other devs don't put their good apps on the market many of them are useful even for people other than power users

is $99 not $25 and not all devs are from market enabled countries

The only reason I can see besides the $25 or $99 fee is the ratings.
Once an app is posted to the market you have somewhere around 9.2 million Americans with access to your app. If your app has bugs or is not perfect from the start you start getting 1 star ratings. These ratings will slowly knock your app away from any sort of recognition.
Developers on XDA post there app here in order to receive constructive criticism, instead of a market comment like "App has Force Close Errors 1 star." Instead on XDA the developers can get and give ideas to other. Then when they seem like the app is fully tested they can choose to post it to the market.

The Android Market fee is a ONE-TIME $25. iOS is yearly.

Xda is a test bed for good ideas. Said good ideas get made into an app that gets throughly tested ppl with different phone models then the dev. Then the app can go to market.

My apps are in the Android Market.

Mine is on the Market and has a thread on here, although I haven't attached the free APK to the thread.
And yeah, although the UI isn't great (I have plans for it) and I don't advertise a lot, I still managed to earn a little over $200 so far, making back well over the $25 I spent to be able to sell my app. It's worth it.

The above is a very good reason for posting your app elsewhere before publishing on the market. Most of the market reviews I've had regarding a problem didn't include any useful information on how to replicate the issue. For example, you'll typically get comments like "Freezes!" or "Force closes!" with no indication where in the app these problems occur. Likewise, identifying and fixing device specific issues is particularly difficult if you only rely on market reviews.

I'm not sure this is a big deterrent. It's a $25 one-time fee to publish as many apps as you want and you wouldn't need many sales or ad clicks to cover this cost.

agree....you will get more useful info alot faster on XDA regarding fuctionality and bug reports.

Alot of people just develop apps as a hobby with no intention of selling them. So why pay the $25?

and sometines you get banned without explanation so its a good place to upload you apk's google ban without send a warning maybe an icon, maybe something you did wrong and you couldnt fix they just ban and close you play store forever (and the next account you can made)

I put my Apps both on here and on the App Store.
I don't make any money from my apps, but I love Android because it's only a one time fee of $25 to publish apps to Android.
I was going to start with iOS but that's $100 yearly. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

Yup, Google Play is only a 1 time fee of $25. I dont think devs should be afraid of low ratings. You can't satisfy everyone. I get requests daily about what I should include in the app. There a lot of ideas and for a 99 cent app, I'm just not sure its worth it to build all these ideas into the app. The ones I do pay attention to are the ones where they say something doesn't work or it crashes when this or that happens.

I don't normally do this, and I usually hang out in the Evo forums, but this seemed like the most appropriate place. The hangout I usually frequent is hosting a contest where you post a photo to their wall, and the photo with the most likes gets a pair of tickets to Lollapalooza next month. Anyone knows of any good job openings in Miami, FL? I've got 4 years LP experience

Just got laid off a week ago and I already feel myself drowning in debt. Truth be told, I do not want to work loss prevention anymore, I'm actually looking into making a career out of selling phones (maybe district manager or something better in the future). Even though I have no experience, I think i know more than most of the people trying to sell you phones at any store because of my time spent on various forums but unfortunately it does not count and can't be put on my resume. So my point is, even if it isn't related to anything that I've mentioned and you live in my area and can help me, please let me know. I have 2 kids and many bills...

Today is the worst day of my life .
I was playing on my university ground playing cricket . I had tight pant so i decided to keep my O2X on my friends Bag . after 2 hours of playing when i come back to take my O2X, it wasn't here! i searched everywhere , every people for my phone but i didn't find it . it was stolen.:crying: This happened before 2 hours of my posting . I am in very frustration right now , it was my favorite phone . I can't hold my tears right now.:crying:
now i don't have optimus 2x , so i don't belong here guys.i am leaving this community . Being sympathetic does not necessarily mean crying. That poor chap lost his phone and is short of money to buy a new one. May you share the same sorrow. May be then you would come to terms with the feeling of loss and the grief associated with it. Might be a petty thing for many of us, but for me, I could just say, don't worry mate, God has better things in store for you.

Well not when it's running CM7. It's accurate but not consistent.

Another good reason to start crying like that on a forum like this...apparently.

Man, that sucks big time OP. I know how you feel... way back in high school I was in a similar situation twice. I had a feature phone with a colour screen and no camera or other fancy stuff, but at the time it felt so cool to just talk and text from a little handheld gadget. Then one day at the library, I stupidly left it on the table I was sitting at before going to the washroom - of course it was never seen again when I got back. Plus my parents bought it for me which made me feel really angry at myself.
I immediately received a hand-me-down from my dad (this one was a little fancier, Nokia with a VGA camera) and within a few months, it ended up in the washing machine! From that point on I became super careful.
Hope you manage to acquire another phone sometime, ideally a non-LG And let this be a lesson to always keep your phone in your pocket at all times! And if the situation doesn't permit it, lock the phone securely in a locker or car glove compartment or something, or just ask a trustworthy friend to hold it for you.

I think this is their master plan. Their making it so hard to root that at&t and samsung are just making us get worn out waiting for root. Eventually people won't care anymore and just put up with all their bloat and tactics turning us into sheep like the apple people are. I am even getting wore out checking 7 times a day in these threads only to hear of all the ways that don't work to root. There is a 12K bounty to be paid. U think that someone would spend every second trying to root to get 12K. Something is up with this. Maybe they were contacted and paid more not to do this. If there is a way they can PM me it and I will post it and give them the bounty so they don't get in trouble.

Kid?...Ok..explain why root on every other S5 was achieved before they even got released. I've been flashing since the old HTC 8125. I go out..I have a life..don't come in my thread acting like a jerk. I'm stating a point. Respect it or don't come in with rude comments. These threads that always ask why "someone else' hasn't done anything are very sad. You complain about reading threads 7 times a day about what can't be done and then you make one yourself? And I've seen your other posts... trolling. So I'm sure your reply will be no less to anyone that doesn't 100% agree with you.
So what exactly, do you want to achieve with this thread? And before telling me to move on, you might want to take your own advice because if you have nothing of value to add, you are worse than any of the people you complain about.

Just stating an opinion in a forum...pretty common actually and what I achieved is to get this attention and for you it obviously worked. No hard feelings....just don't be so harsh on people's opinions. And as far as me making one that's not my gig. That's why there are so many different careers out there..it makes the world go round. Some people work at Big Lots and some are Doctors or in marking. The more exposure to root complaints the better. Take care and have a good weekend.
