Hello, i (think) i want to root my Lg Optimus Black,
but before making all kinds of decisions i have a few questions;
Will rooting my phone remove the warranty? because i can not afford it to drop my phone, and have to pay the full 200 euro's for it..
if it does remove my warranty, can i switch back, and remove everything so LG will still repair my phone?
I once upgraded my 2.2 froyo to 2.3 gingerbread with the LG site,
is it posible to upgrade my phone to the 'normal' android version? because i hate
the LG Interface.. and if i can, will this also remove my warranty?
If i am going to root, i will be using several forum posts found on XDA.
if i follow these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23790405&postcount=171
and then these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473592
will i have a stable LG optimus black, with another interface.
If rooting, or installing the default Android 2.3 is not safe to use, is there any way to Remove the horrible LG interface (The lockscreen, dialscreen, statusbar, Music app, etc. ?
if you modify the software you will loose your waranty. And you can ALWAYS go back to stock in one way or another.

1.- You can always unroot to SmartFlash and get back your warranty..
2.- if you have much problems with rooting, back to 2.2 and root, then install the Roms that you prefer!!, is more easy than injecting Recovery!!

Hello, i want to root my Optimus black.
in the system specs, it says V20o.
So i went to click on the V20o link, there i got a few steps.
at the first step you need to download a file, not only it says v20b in there, it is also from a v20B thread. so is this the right file? and the download link doesnt work...
For 20o follow this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23788913&postcount=170
Download of 20o root is possible if you remove the html in the browser.
I did al the steps, but exedently clicked Clockwork mod away, so now i havent done steps 14,15 and 16! Can someone please tell me what to do! how can i get my recoberyscreen back?
Simply start with step 5 again and follow the instruction!
Done that a few times myself.

Hello! I need some help, I've been searching for a couple days about how to root my lg optimus black p970 V20a. I found your noob threat and I see the link for V20a but when I click there it sends me to a link with Root (Superuser) on firmware V20B (CIS). Does this means V20b can be use for V20a's? or is it a typo and if it easy can you please where to find the V20a.
Much appreciate!! Thanks!!
You can root it on your own (check the 3rd post of my noob how to) or ask someone, to provide it to you... I dont have time, but the how to should be self explaining You only need the LgExtract tool (posted at the end of the thread) Smartflash + Windows enabler and Superuser.zip And your pretty much done Or keep on searching for Root v20a Optimus Black

Well, I've been at the Big-N00b topic. This is what I read:
The UNROOT
If you wanna unroot your device, why so ever, the easiest way is to use Unlock Root (Link above) open it, connect your phone via USB, enable Debugging Mode and click unroot. If you wanna unroot it, e.g. to be able to send it back to LG on warranty, better use the method below, to unbrick your device with R&D tool.
Because like this, you will get back an unrooted device, which has also been hardresetted. So LG will hardly/never get a clue, that it has ever been rooted.
Dont forget to format your SD card as well

I've tried the Unlock Root but the only thing I got was: failed to get shell root.
Anyone have an idea how to unroot it now?
Thanks.
Use the post below, as stated in my thread. It says UNBRICKING.
Flash a new software (the older the better) e.g. v10a to your phone, reboot it 2 times, then update it to the version availiable for you via B2C
Read it all dude

I've read it all, but I wanted to unroot it without having to do that much. What do you mean by B2C? LG PC Suite? Anyway, thanks for helping.
Seems like you didnt read carefully...
B2C is one of the first lines in that guide... You should really start reading carefully.
It is the Lg Update Tool.
Flashing with smartflash takes pretty exactly 5 Minutes, updating with B2C about 10-15 minutes and your all done. If you dont wanna, you dont need to, but you were asking for a solution. So take it or leave it.

So, I got one more question. Right now I'm on stock 2.3.3. If LG releases ICS and I upgrade it with LG PC Suite will I be unrooted aswell?
Of course it will... That's what was the problem with rooting Gingerbread in the beginning was. Cause as soon as you updated a rooted version of froyo, it was rooted no longer...
So will it be with ICS as well

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392
. And search before you post

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len
No one's replying to my thread anymore and a post was deleted last week for some reason.. Anyway, I got my phone rooted too, same method, but had no network access, 3g or phone service, did you overcome that at all?

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

SU660 internal mounting not working
OK. Sooo i'm stupid... evidently. I got this SU660 on ebay, didn't know it was Korean. So in attempt to kinda update it from 2.2.2, and get rid of the Korean software that doesn't translate into english at all, I inadvertently screwed something up with nvflash cleaner 0.1. 0.2 and 0.3 wouldn't see the port for the phone. Now, for some reason, I can't get the phone to mount the internal memory (/emme? /system) So now it just loads up to CWM but I can't do anything to try to get the OS back on there!
I'm going crazy here. I have no idea what I missed in the process that screwed me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Any ideas? I have the source download from LG's site for Gingerbread which i'd prefer over Froyo and downloaded ICS just in case I wanted to get adventurous...I've had enough adventure. i just want this working. I've gotta have it up and running by Saturday Otherwise, I'll have to go buy another Droid to get me by until i can get this one working. I'd even pay someone to get the stinking thing working LOL. I've never had a problem with roms on samsungs and motorolas. Evidently LG is a bit different
*Update*
OK I found one download with nvflash that was listed for an SU660 but ended up being for the P990 LOL. outside the touchscreen not working, It booted up to the OS so thats a start. so with that... just have to find the Froyo OS or Gingerbread I can get working on here

Unlock Root works, see if you have all the drivers installed and the usb debugging mode is on. Try another computer, I have rooted mine by it within 10 seconds only
You can also use "adb root" method with the Su660 ICS
It means that you don't have to use any rooting tool to get root permission for su660 ICS
Code:
adb root
adb push su /system/bin
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
^try that by wkpark

Just follow this thread to update to the official ICS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889328), though Korean apps still remain. But you can actually freeze them so they would not appear on your phone drawer (Either try Link2SD or Titanium Backup Pro for freezing).

almost custom rom are included root and you shouldn't need root your phone to install custom rom, but if you still want do it, down load this and flash using cwm:

How could you lose applications? It is just a rooting software. Be sure you are on ICS too since it is for ICS/JB devices.
Recovery Mode
HI I got this phone, and recently i updated to I C S 4.0.4 , and already rooted,
now i need recovery mode for backup the current rom, and i need to install custom rom.
any idea?
Hi guys
I recently brought a 2nd hand LG black.
This rom is totally stock, to be precise, it is a Hong Kong version v20
Since I want to improve the battery life and have a more defined rom.
I would like to root and install CWM for my LG black.
Up to now, I have downloaded a few kdz from the subforum.
I have little experience before with LG phone, Last one i played around was LG P500. I remember last time i could easily root the phone by super1click, and then install rom manager from play store.
And from there (play store) i install CWM recovery.
I would like to find the confirmation from you guys that
Can i go for the same path again, super1click>rom manager>CWM recovery??
Thx in advance!!

I realised the way you suggest to install CWM as exactly as mine.
But you only suggest to use SOC to root for 2.2 devices
Is there any reasons I should not root a 2.3 by SOC?
Actually SOC is always the most comfortable way to root for me
Hope you can share some

Read post 3 about how to do it yourself and follow the youtube video guide mentioned there. It's really easy and safe.
To me:
Easiest
- Smartflashtool flash v10a
- Use mass storage for phone
- Download Gingerbreak.apk
- Transfer to phone mass storage
- Install app
- Root
- Open Play Store
- Download ROM Manager
-Flash CWM
Voila
Easiest but slowest

Hmm, complicated. Why not:
- Smartflashtool flash v20n that has CWM inside. This is the procedure.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23788913&postcount=170.You only need the V20n,0,s (any of them) in fls/bin format.
- Flash Superuser.zip in CWM
- Done.
thx everyone

Yes, you can. It is also useful for warranty (as root is voiding your warranty).

Hi everyone!
First of all, sorry if this as been asked, tonight my Google skills didn't help me find an answer.
A friend of mine owns a LG Optimus 2X (P990) bought from Fido in Canada. Currently she's on Gingerbread and would like to update to ICS (which is the latest stock rom available from what I read)
She wouldn't get the software update OTA so she tried downloading the LG Updater software from LG directly. The software detects the phone and says an update is available.
At some point, a popup appear suggesting to make a backup. So far, everything is fine. Once the backup is done and she click the "Start upgrade" button, she gets this error message : "An Unsupported operation has been attempted"
Anyone ever seen this before? Is there a way to upgrade her phone without using the LG software?
Since it's not my own phone, I would prefer not rooting it.
If rooting is really the only solution? What would be a good guide to read to do the update? (I did read a few sticky posts... 1 is the all in one tool kit... it explains each feature, but is not really a guide and I still have some questions unanswered after reading it. The other guide I read, the download links are broken)
Thank you

i want ICS too on my phone, and use LG tool several times but unsuccessfully, it is like that not working or i dont know...
you can use AIO tool, it is too easy to work with it, just follow instruction and install correct bootloader and thats it.

Use option #4 to repartition the device for ICS and then option #7 to flash the ICS stock rom?

Thank you, I'll give it a try tonight
Alright, that didn't help at all.
First of all, I wanted to flash a stock ROM... the guide tells us to install CWM and we got stuck at the part where we have to flash the ROM because it would seem CWM won't take the KDZ (or bin/fls) files.
Now we can go to the SW Upgrade mode without the battery, but the smartflash utility time out after 3 minutes and end on an error.
We can also go to CWM with the battery... but with no apparent way to flash a stock rom.
We're stuck at the moment.
Edit : So in the end we flashed only the BIN file instead of both BIN and FLS. No more errors and the phone rebooted correctly under ICS! Yay!

It's fixed! We didn't flash the FLS file (which would be the baseband?) but the phone still booted properly and connected properly to the cell phone provider.
