It may be a stupid question, but still ...
Did you installed SRS WOW HD?
I lost sound when I installed this program.
Uninstalled it, rebooted, everything back to normal.

errrm, no, I have had the radio for a long time, and I reflashed the stock rom with default radio to check..
I flashed the new radio AFTER I got the problem, I have used same radio for 4-5 months with no issues at all.

No, if you read my post you would see that I have done hard-reset and flashed new rom (stock) after I started to have this problem, and I still have it
Sameproblem
Hi, I've got the same problem here.
I flash to NoThrills Dutch (WM6.1) about a month ago..
Everything worked fine.
No problems at all
At one moment (yesterday) my phone rang. I pressed the green butten. The call was accepted but no sound. I hungup. Called the person back, no sound.
After that happend all sound was lost (speaker, windows media, coreplayer, etc, etc)
Then I performed a softreset. sound was working again. I called someone. Everything was ok. Then I hungup. and the sound was gone again.
So I performed a Hard reset.
Sound was OK till I accepted a call.. and the problem started all over again.
Then I performed a Radio ROM flash. I've tried the following versions:
KAIS_Radinly_1.27.12.11_CustomRUU
KAIS_Radinly_1.64.08.21_CustomRUU < This was my default radio after nothrills update.
POLAR_Radinly_1.58.21.23_CustomRUU.
This didn't solve the problem.
Any suggestions?
Keep in mind that before the problem occured I didn't perform any (rom)updates nor have I installed any software lately.
I perform a softreset every 2 days normally.

I also have the same problem and have been experiencing it on a number of rom/radio combinations. I have now flashed back to stock bootloader/rom/radio to see if it happens again - it did happen when I was just on stock rom/radion but using hard-spl.
There seems to be a few people now with this problem Unfortunately nobody of any particular knowledge to help fix it. Lots of people are making noises about incompatible radios but I know for a fact that I have been using compatible radios and still getting the problem. If it does it again now it will go back to HTC, but at a bit of a loss as to what is going on.
Yep, happened again.... hard resetting now again to see if happens on 'bare' device!

Yesterday I've flashed the nothrills rom twice. First time no luck. the second time everything functioned OK...
I hope it will stay working this time. If not it's back to HTC with the phone..
I am having the same issue starting 2-3 weeks ago. I am also having trouble with all phone functionality in general. The SMS, Phone call, internet. They all work intermittently. Sometimes it work but most of time it doesn't work. Now I am so frustrated that I am planning to take the phone back to vodafone to see whether they can replace mine.
Who here has had the issue that is using MSVC or S2U2, or both?
Hey everyone, watch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392606
for a similar discussion.
I think it's going to end up being S2U2.
H
It happened to me on the ATT Death Beta and I do not use S2U2...
Reverted back to L26 V4 Vanilla and all is well again...
I've tried most every ROM available on XDA with most every radio in the last 6 weeks (I used the compatible ones). I even went back to AT&T 6.0 ROM/radio. No luck. Unfortunately I probably can't return it to HTC as I bought my Tilt on ebay and unlocked it to use with T-Mobile... I don't use S2U2 and actually have very vague idea what it is.
I am seeing this on my stock AT&T ROM and Radio, but I am hard spl'd. This also popped up on me about 2 - 3 weeks ago and I can't shake it no matter what ROM I try, even stock.
It seems today I am good but I am not running anything on here - no HTC Home, no MS VC, no S2U2.
I am going to put MS VC on first and go ahead through the weekend to see what makes me break.
Not good news that people WITHOUT S2U2 are seeing this exact problem. I was hoping that was it.
Just to confirm, we have users that:
1.) Do NOT use S2U2
2.) Do NOT use MS VC
3.) DO have the problem where the phone will suddenly stop making sounds. Calling people, they cannot hear you, you cannot hear them. Only a soft reset helps and only then for a short while.
Can someone confirm they meet all of these criteria? If not, do we have people that hit 2 out of 3?

Hi all!
I just bought this wonderful phone.
But I have a huge problem. As soon as I have spooken on the phone i need to restart it if I want any type of sound on it again.
First night it worked ok, I set an alarm and so I could wake up and get to work.
But I woke up, feeling the phone vibrating endless.
I saw that a co-worker tried to call me and I answered but didn't hear anything.
I did a reboot of the phone and called him up.
Phone details:
ROM-version: 1.37.413.3 SVE
ROM-date: 06/19/08
Radioversion: 1.00.25.03
Protocol: 52.26a.25.09H
Should I return the phone for exchange or is this something that could be fixed with an update?
I tried to browse throuh this part of the forum but I didn't find anything that was like my problem. Execpt for the vibrating error. (I have turned vibrating off now).
problem is still here.. anyone?
I had the same after playing a mp3 on maximum volume with mediaplayer.
I had to do a soft reset to get any sound again.
Now, with the volume a very little bit below the maximum, it's fine again.

Still have the same problem.
Am I alone with this? Should I return it to the store that I bought it from?
Two questions:
Do you have the stock ROM?
Does the problem persist after a hard reset?
Yess I got the same problem here.
From the beginning.
As i got the phone out of the box it worked fine.
But over time It mutes it self and nou sound comes from it.
when I restart.
Its A go ant it works fine. I make one out going phone call.
Still fine.
I get an other one to call me, and the phone mutes ,.,. I answer the phone and it vibrates just once and stuts off the screen.
silence. but i am connected.
when i end the call. there is nothing that will play or make a sound.
after a restart everything works fine again,.,. for a while.
Ive tried.
Alll the different radio versions available on here
A dozen of roms, elite 1,2,3 and lots of others. the problem seems not to dissapear
Can anyone help me out here.
Is an hardware problem, I think.
I got the same problem with one of mine Touch XL.
I used my warranty and HTC sent me another.
Bummer,.,.
But thank you for replie !!
I will contact my provider asap.
Still on it.
downgraded the ratio to the 03 version.
Still no luck.
When I have the official ROM everything was fine. Then I flash my device with russian ROM from football (4pda.ru) and then I noticed that sound sometimes completely disappears (external speaker, internal speaker). Only reboot turned sound back and I got this bug every day 4-5 a day I need to reboot my device. Then I flash my mobile with Jugglah's ROM (4pda.ru) and the problem didn't gone away? Please could anyone help me in resolving this issue without flashing with official ROM (it's too slow-laggy to use).

I'm having the same no-sound-at-all issue sometimes. But this happens occasionaly when I disconnect the Bluetooth connection. After a reboot the sound is back... Anybody have the same problem?
I didn't use bluetooth or wifi at all...
still actual!
i have the same problem evan without using bluetooth on a origanal vodafone ger rom
I had the same problem using Vodafone GER ROM
then BEPE 99d different Radio
now Duttys V1.9 again with different Radio
still know luck
I thing its getting less but it is still very irritating
I slowly believe that it's a hardware problem.
can anyone confirm this???
thanks
lucky
hope this can point to a solution
I have the same problem using original ROM on my Touch Pro (having some tweaking apps installed)
I can kind of "reproduce" the "dieing of sound", think it's because of the volume setting whitin the touch 3D interface...
have Resco installed and it comes wit a regeditor
when the sound died I did go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Profiles
there are two settings (Default) (value not set)
and ActiveProfile.
What I discovered was that when sound dies the setting of ActiveProfile REMAINS on "Silent" (kind of LAG in the sys/TF3D volumesetting??)
putting my sound settings in TF3D volume on silent and edited the reg key to "Normal", then raising the volume and I got the sound back.
I hope you out here can test and confirm this, because is's just shooting with blanks now.
I think though that this is worth saying.
so are you guys hard resetting after all these flashes? i bet one will fix it.

Hi Everyone,
I've searched through the i9000 section and have not found a solution to my problem.
I have a problem with my rear speaker on my i9000 after flashing to the stock XXJVU 2.3.6 rom using Odin. I have sound through the headphones, and the front speaker but no sound through the rear speaker (i.e. I cannot hear the phone ring).
Prior to the flash I was running a cooked rom (from Rom Kitchen) JS8 (2.2.1) with the speedmod k13c kernel with the lagfix enabled. This was working fine and the speaker was working correctly prior to the flash.
Before I flashed I attempted to disable the lagfix through CWM, however, towards the end of the lagfix the phone got stuck during the testing proportion after converting everything back to RFS. When disabling the lagfix I had forgotten if the /system was converted to ext4, and I did not convert that back to RFS (to my mistake the /system was most likely still ext4), but converted the rest back to RFS.
After a long time I took out the battery and restarted the phone. The phone booted into the rom fine, however, all the settings had been reset (just like when you factory reset the phone). I assume the reason was that it did not restore the backup of my settings when it got stuck during the disabling of the lagfix. I do not remember if I had sound when I booted back into the rom.
I then turned off my phone and flashed the XXJVU stock rom via Odin (pda/modem/csc/pit with re-partition selected), and then cleared all the caches and factory reset before and after installing the Semaphore 2.5.0 kernel. Both of the flashing processes completed without any error. When I did boot into the new rom I realised that I no longer had any sound, however everything else seems to be operating fine.
List of things I have tried to fix this issue:
Factory reset (both through the menus and *2767*3855#)
Wiped and factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache many times
Tested the speaker through *#0673# (Audio Test Mode) and get no sound
Tested the speaker through *#0283# (Audio Loopback Control) and get no sound
Taking the back cover off the phone and pressing the speaker module whilst playing music to see if it was a loose connection
Flashed the firmware back to two stock roms from my carrier (2.2 and 2.3.3 version from Optus) still no sound (everything else worked fine)
Flashed the XWJW1 stock firmware and still no sound
Tried inserting and removing headphone plug into the jack multiple times. In case there was an issue with the phone thinking there were headphones still plugged in.
Turned on "logger" in Semaphore kernel and using alogcat to see if there were any errors related to the rear speaker (nothing I could see)
I am now thinking it could be a hardware issue, however, it just seems too coincidental that the rear speaker breaks whilst I am flashing a new rom on the phone. Might have to open it up and have a look at the speaker module more closely.
Any ideas anyone?
For those who find it tldr
Summary:
Disabled lagfix on 2.2 rom process got stuck and battery had to be removed
Flashed new rom as phone still booted to XXJVU and noticed there was no sound in rear speaker
Tried many things to try to get phone sound working again but have run out of ideas
Thanks everyone!
Outcome:
I have bought a new speaker module and installed it and it WORKS!
Buy a new phone, bro

Revert back with my Nandroid Backup to 2.8, that i done before flashing ,but still the same, Before everythings worked fine.
I also suspect Free Spirit Fm and the options in audio --> Method --> Galaxy S ALSA/ICS (DANGER) , but this option always wored fine since some month.

Yes it is a very odd problem.
I have yet to open up the phone and check the connection of the rear speaker module. Everything is working fine except the rear speaker.
At least I now know I'm not the only person with this issue. What else have you tried to fix your problem? Tried some of the fixes that I have tried?
this is actually what I've done
revert back to Nandroid backup
Delete cache of some apps like Dsp manager and Spirit FM as i suspect it to broke my Rear Speakers (but maybe nothings releated)
Factory Reset and Wipe Everythings
Change Kernel to Glich V14
Now i also open up the phone and check the connection, everythings seem to be good
I'm now going to buy a new Rear Speaker and try to change it, maybe it's just a coincidence , But very strange .....
Yes, I find it hard to believe that my rear speaker stops working at the exact time that I'm flashing a new rom. I was going to buy a new speaker, but decided that I'll wait until I open it up and have a proper look. Just trying to find some motivation to go and do this, it has been about two weeks of trying and I've almost given up.

Wow awesome!
How is the quality of the speaker compared to the original? I'm debating if I pay more to buy a genuine rear speaker or just get a generic one.
How difficult was it to open up the phone and replace the speaker?
same issue but slightly different
Hey guys, I have the same issue with my i9000 after a fresh wipe and flashing the latest CM9 nightly build as of april 2nd ( update-cm-9-20120402-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd-signed.zip ) and the rear speaker doesn't work for ringing or music playback, but I noticed it works for putting calls on speakerphone -- is this just me? Should I replace the speaker?

If the speaker is working in some cases then you won't be in the same situation as us. Ours didn't work at all, no matter what situation.
Have you tried flashing it back to a stock rom?
edit: stupid question but you have checked the "Sound" settings > "Volume" > "Media volume" and "Incoming call volume"?
Same problem I got today when woke up in the morning, I wonder why didn't alarm ring today. Then I tried flashing ROMs etc etc. watching videos on the youtube, did google and find this post.
I think I will have to buy new speaker.
Any idea?

G'day,
Have you tried the methods I tried in my first post?
Factory reset (both through the menus and *2767*3855#)
Wiped and factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache many times
Tested the speaker through *#0673# (Audio Test Mode) and get no sound
Tested the speaker through *#0283# (Audio Loopback Control) and get no sound

Flashed the stock firmware.
Tried inserting and removing headphone plug into the jack multiple times. In case there was an issue with the phone thinking there were headphones still plugged in.
I'm still waiting for my replacement speaker in the post. I will update if this fixes the issue.
Good luck!
Do you get ANY sound from the rear-speaker? I have a similar issue (loss of audio after flashing new ROM) but it is the handset speaker. After some troubleshooting, I found that there it was still working but was ULTRA low volume. With a number of tweaks, you can just hear calls if the other person is yelling. With headphones/rear-speaker, very thing is fine.
My next troubleshooting step is to find a way to repartition the phone and reflash a stock ROM. That's about all I have left as I have tried all other options.
Zimzum
Just an update people.
Just installed the replacement speaker module... and it..... WORKS!!
flash an official ROM using Odin
I need some help here. My i9000 seems to work through the rear speaker ONLY??? During hands free calls the thing is MUCH louder when turned around and listening from the rear. All ringing, alarms, etc. seem to emanate from the rear speaker. Is it difficult to replace the front speaker? I have cm9 Nightlies flashed (up to date). It's been like this for a few months already.
I bought my Incredible S from Virgin Mobile Canada last summer (I live in Turkey). I've got a weird problem for about a week: there is no sound! When I play videos on Youtube, when I play games, when I plugged in the headphones, when the phone is supposed to ring (there is only vibration)... there is no sound when the phone is turning on, as well.
It happened suddenly and it didn't fall down on the ground recently.
Another weird thing is: when I accept a call / or call someone, the speaker is automatically on and I have to turn it off. The speaker is working well on phone calls by the way.
I checked almost everything in the settings, and everything seems normal. I don't think it's about the hardware but I want to ask you about this problem.
Software Info: [I haven't rooted or done anything to my phone, I use it as its first day settings (yeah, even the Android version, don't ask why, I can't receive any updates for one year for some reason and it's killing me!)]

I got rid of automatically turning on problem of speaker. I managed to hear the sound in the opening scene as well (after I took the battery off - 1 minute wait - and place it again).
But I have still no sound. Is there a possiblity of blown speaker? How can I test if it is blown or not? If it is blown, would the headphones still be working?

Blown speakers shouldn't have any affect on your headphone jack.

Did you check all volumes i.e; Ringer, Notification, Media, Voice, System.

Factory reset can't solve the situation. Any other suggestions? It's really annoying! Still no voice! But there is voice when the phone is turning on... And no voice with the headphones as well. I don't think it's a blown speaker situation... What can I do? It's really urgent!

Thank you for the info. I've just made a factory reset, but nothing has change (plus I lost my SMS archive, since I forgot to backup them! :crying

might be a faulty motherboard. instead of a factory reset, try flashing a custom rom like ice cold ?

Do you think this will work? I can try it in 4-5 days, I guess I have no time to try it right now; since I have to pack for travelling and travel abroad.

id try it. its weird but there might be a software glitch or something. so if you try a different rom with fresh files it could work ?
Can it be something about ''Radio'' ? I don't know anything about it but it sounds like it is something that controls the audio?

Hi,
Any progress of your sound problem ?
I have an exact problem. Phone speaker suddenly stop working. No ring tone (can't hear incoming call), can't play music, can't hear from headset. But the power up sounds ok , when the HTC logo came up. Tried restart and all sort of setting to no avail. However, I can hear the speaker rings when I call someone and speak to hear them normally.
Very frustrating. Have not done factory reset yet ... that will be the last resource ...

I cant remember exactly but it repaired itself somehow... I remember that I applied a factory reset (I havent changed any other settings) and like 1 week later or something, yep, it was back suddenly! So strange! I wish you a good luck about it!
