[Q] How does a module work? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it all. I'm thinking we could use x8 undervolt modules.
Undervolt came in x8 before they even started custom kernels!

If you remember correctly someone did post the UV modules , just that no one bothered to touch them .
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

You are wrong. Madman_amit developed an undervolt kernel for the ace. He posted it in our group for testing. But undervolting did not yield the expected battery backup. So the project was ditched.
For anyone who wants to try i can post it or request amit to do the same.

i had created and i still am using my own custom kernel just haven't posted it on xda and project is not dead at all.. its just that time do not permit me to push development at fast rate as what dragonn is doing.. i do have changed lot of things in my kernel and as stated above uv didn't worked as expected and at time of an0nym0us_ was actively making kernel we did some testing but doesn't look promissing..and to tell you many of the kernel currently in dev section are undervolted (even coolya's official one) but they do not say specifically...
my current custom kernel have several patches from allover but not significant enough to release

Overclocking our kernel

Now that we have the source code, I have been poking around the source and I think I have found the frequency table, which includes the voltages. If anyone here has experience with the Linux kernel or any experience making overclocked boot images please help us build an overclocked boot image join us on irc.freenode.net #openzio or post here.
Please keep this thread clean... it is dedicated to building an overclocked kernel.

I been waiting for someone to say this all day. I am having problems entering in the chat room, doesn't want to load on any of my browsers.
Good news cricket Zio owners, not only do we now have our first rom thanks to spz0, but in openzio development we are working hard on getting a kernel working and booting... especially Adrynalyne (I think that's right) if all goes as planned and nothing is broken we will be releasing this for all to enjoy, maybe spz0 will put it in the next rom release.

Good news. The Zio M6000 has been overclocked! We have been working hard testing the limits and running stress tests. A little more tweaking and we should have a stable release by the end of the month.

Several of us have been testing and have yet to have an Issue. You should pop by #openzio and voice issues so we can work on them .......
Personally ive run the Openzio Rom with OC included(729 Mhz run as a constant) as well as the "ExtremeZio OC Kernel at 748 Mhz. Granted 748 isnt anywhere near stable, but ive had Zero issues running at 729mhz ...... maybe you have some software conflicts?
Anyway drop by and let Spz0 know what issues youre having so he can resolve them m8
I am running the second test kernel on the list, with only 729 above 600 with no performance tweaks and only swap enabled. I started from scratch with the optimized kernel 650-748 and found it to be much less stable then the unoptimized 729 only kernel.
It seems to me that some of the optimizations are running over settings I normally have control of.
Do i have to change my phone's rom to oc? can i just open rw access and change out the kernel? I'm fairly new to all of this, and I've had nothing but bad luck lol (bricked my galaxy s)

Kernels are flashed through CWM as zip files. There is only one way to get overclocking on the Zio unless you can find the list of kernels made by Adrynalyne. And I HIGHLY DOUBT you can. So the only real option is to get OpenZio on your phone. And that takes a lot of work and know how. If you want to pursue that, start in the Easy Clockwork Mod Recovery thread in the Zio development section.

A developer is looking for beta testers for his custom kernel, he is quite well known in the DHD section
I am looking forward to it IMO kernels are as/more important than roms when it comes to performance, from my experience with the nexus 7

Ok back to my main point, I'm currently using ICS Sense G11 v2.0.1 kernel and my ROM is ARHD 3.01. My question is, how to overclock my IncS? I've tried using SetCPU, but my phone freezed after I choose one of the available governer there. Also, if possible, please suggest me the best overclock setting. Thanks.

Try the app incredicontrol or Trickster Mod
Just don't OC too much because that can cause reboots and freezes

Okay, try to go as low with the minimum as stable
With max freq I don't go over 1.2 GHz, some use up to 1.5 but that guzzles battery
For gov I use intellidemand or lionheart depending on the kernel
Sent from my HTC Incredible S
I use SetCPU with max: 1,4. Everything above freezes my device and screws battery life. gov: ondemand or lionheart
My sweet spot for oc is 1.2 max, with ondemand/lionheart gov. I don't see any need to go beyond that as all apps and games run well and smooth with that setting. However i've try max of up to 1.5 without any freezing or crash problem.
Also using oc daemon to set oc values, this eliminate lag (sleep - wake), experienced when im using oc apps such as setcpu (thanks markj for the guide)
Sent from my Incredible S using xda app-developers app
I'm running 1.5 GHz with no problems. I even got it up to 1.7 but I put it down to 1.5. If you can, after you OC, you can try run the stress test in setcpu for a bit...

Including custom Kernel on Stock rom?

Hi guys,
This is my first post on XDA and hoping some help soon.
So, I own a s5830i with XXLK2.
I'm rooted and have tried many custom roms but haven't been much happy with them.
Going brief I like to stay with stock rom only, but in that some highly desired kernel features like swap, cpu governors underclock/overclock frequencies etc. Are missing. I assume these features are useful for REALLY noticeably increasing performance.
My biggest aim being saving as much battery life as possible so I need underclocking and cpu governors.
So Can anyone tell me how to get custom kernel(the only I knw is rafael baugis kernel) working with my STOCK ROM. Any nice and short tutorial will be a great help.
Also, does undercloclocking, unervolting increase performance? Any experience?
How about using swap to increase ram size, will it really increase multitasking?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

And can you please help me out with the module selection? What are they?
Sorry* for my noobie questions, but evryone was a noob in beginning

Where can I download new governors?

Hi.
I use JellyBam in my N7000 wich come with basic governors. I would like use smartass or interactive governors... but,
where I can get it?
Its works in two core processor?
Its is dependent of kernel? Mine is CM10.1 compatible for JellyBan.
Sorry for my english... I am noob yet... and, yes, I do 3 hours of search (with made me confuse).
Thank you in advance.]
I'm not the smartest one on here but I think it's part of the kernel.

You're completely right. Governers are baked into the kernel. You can't just download them.
@op give it some time, job is still young. Once Sammy release kernel sources I'm sure kernel devs will start implementing stuff like that. Also, questions go in the q&a section.

The guy who took over gavins work has managed to get it working on jb. It works but is say it's not ready to be used as a daily driver. You can oc, change governors etc, but it seems laggy & buggy-the homme button won't work for me, had to use back
If you want to try it its under "hydracore"

[Q] can you port a kernel?

so i have a samsung vibrant and i do ports from the i 9000 to the vibrant. mymost recent port was built on the mackay kernel. therefore when i created this rom it is extremely laggy since i have it running semaphore. vibrant has no mackay kernel. therefore is it possible to port kernels as i dont know how to build a kernel from source.
if by port u mean like those rom porting method ie copy pasting binaries, no, u cant. u still need to recompile kernel from source.
kernel binary is specific to which device it compiled for, not cross compatible to other device even if the other device is identical.
assuming the sgs and vibrant got similar specs which would make the "port" easier, u need to grab the sgs kernel source u meant to "port", make required changes to it then compile.
thats kernel port, need to recompile from source one way or another.
yeah ive got a LOT of reading to do like for example: learning how to compile, learning what i need in general to create the kernel. thanks man

You should by start by building a simple kernel from proper sources imho
So if there is no actual open source for jellybean for my phone do I download a kernel that's already been built in my phones section and use use that as a base?

You can't use an existing kernel as "base", you have to getthe aource
Well I got some research to do then because Samsung dropped the vibrant a while ago
