[Q] Help regarding flashing hd7 - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im a newbie in the world of Windows phone...
Can anyone help in giving a tutorial regarding how to flash my HTC HD7 with custome ROM's..
What are the requirements required..And the specifications..
Plz help me...

First you have to downgrade your spl to at 3.xxx or below. Then flash rspl or hspl to your device, then you can flash a custom rom! Just follow shadows tutorial here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
If you enter into bootloader and post your information back from the screen, can help walk you through it! To enter bootloader, phone off, hold down the volume button and power the phone back on while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into bootloader mode a tri colored sreen.
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!

Ok with spl 5.xxx you have to use the goldcard method. Unless you have a backup through Zune... Meaning, did you upgrade the hd7 through Zune from pre mango to mago version?

I had updated today...its now windows 7.5

What is goldcard u mentioned...is this a different method other than u mentioned before...
And one more thing do u get balance notification after call or txt msg..,because im not able to get it...

Goldcard is one of the only methods of downgrading your spl from 5.xxx without having a backup. Goldcard, you need to make a Y cable out of USB cables and have a sd card reader to complete the process!
Not sure what you mean by balance notification?
Oh do you mean like phone credit balance? Are you on a pay as you go plan? Im on contract with month to month billing and get notification when my bill is due and can view my usage through my carrier account!

No I don't get notifications... I'm pretty sure it has to do with the update and I don't think there is a way to turn it back on either!

That's good... We can do the spl downgrade without the Goldcard method then. So when your ready just let me know, I'll walk you through the process and we will have you running a custom rom in no time!

what i sent was after my full update to 7.5...
And you quoted as i requires gold card method...Now how you ae saying it does not require goldcard.... Cann you explain in brief please...

Typically with a spl of 5.xxx or higher you would have to use the Goldcard method. But if you have a pre mango backup you can restore your phone through Zune, connect device to Zune - phone - settings - restore. It will restore your device to before the update, then re update the phone again through Zune like your upgrading to mango again. But this time once the Mango update happens (the phone will reboots twice after the update is applied, once for changing the spl and once for loading Mango) The spl is changed to 4.xxx that's when you stop the update and unplug the phone, you have to do this before the last update is applied which is the 7740/HTC Firmware Update, if you apply that too, it will change your spl to 5.xxx again, so you have to stop after the Mango update and then you can follow shadows tutorial for spl 4.xxx downgrade. Plus it will show you in the update box on the computer what update step it is on, so it's really easy to do! This is the same process that I used to downgrade my spl from 5.xxx to 4.xxx, then I finished using shadows tutorial to do the rest! The whole process took about and hour to fully complete and to have Deepshining rom installed on my device!

Why im not able to jail break my phone..When i run jail breaker, it say's phone is not connect through USB or Zune is not open..Though phone is cnnected through USB and Zune is open..
Should the phone be unlocked for it...Or it will work without unlock...

Make sure your phone is plugged into the computer when trying to get the restore point. Should be select, phone - settings - update (Zune should check for an update and say, no updates availabe) and then there should be a restore button towards the bottom of the update box. If it's not there then you must not have a pre mango backup for it and you will have to use the Goldcard method to do it which is pretty easy once you have the Y cable put together and a sd card reader! Here's a pretty detailed tutorial for the Goldcard method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152

Then there is no backup i feel, because no restore button is displayed....
I wanted to know without unlocking the phone like mine..Can we do jailbreak....

Hi,hope this is the right place to ask this. I bought this HD7 last week from Ebay and it's current specs are;
Software: Windows 7.5
OS: 7.10.8107.79
Bootloader: 5.11.XXX
Zune is saying there's an update available, haven't updated yet though.
So my question is,I want to install the Deepshining rom,do I do the following;
Flash the NoDo rom as listed in the Q&A section of the Deepshining thread, via bootloader,to downgrade SPL.
Flash RSPL via bootloader, then immediately flash Deepshining rom.
Is it that easy,or am I missing something (or everything !) Have flashed loads of roms on phones in the past with no bother, but this seems dodgy to me as I keep seeing the word 'brick' and that scares me a bit.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Wish it was that easy...lol! Sounds like you understand for the most part, but with the bootloader of 5.xxx there are really only two options for being able to flash a custom rom.
1. A pre-Mango backup/restore point on your p/c. Which since you just got the device won't be a possibility for you.
2. The goldcard/Y cable method. Which is really easy and inexpensive! You can build you own cable or purchase one.
Check out Shadows tutorial, he explains the whole process and steps to flash a custom rom.

Did you try to flash your original ROM specified for your device?? I only used my original TMOUS CID .531 ROMS to go back lower bootloader.
I think you must have done soomething wrong, don't get confused when you see on your decive that the firmware is exapmle 2250.21.40502.401(my current one) doesn't mean I have to flash another .401 based CID ROM to lower bootloader, you must ALWAYS use the one specified for your device or else you will end up with the problem you have now or as they say DO NOT RSPL/HSPL your device when on BL 4.xxx it has been warned like a million times already.
I suggest you find someone near you who has your same phone and ask them to restore a backup of his phone and from his computer via zune! A member of an Italian forum has solved that!
first thank u guys for ur helps >>> now iam trying to download the original rom >> and my braother have the same mobile iwill try to restore his backup>>> iwill try

Can u enter USB host mode?
Press camera+volume down+power on to enter the bootloader in host mode.
If u can. May be gold card method will work.
same BootLoader screen
I don' know exactly but restoring a backup from an other phone via Zune should not work. By the way, did Zune also save SPL & Radio or only OS?
I thoin as long as you do not see Serial or USB at the bottom of you bootloader, the device isnt recodniced by the PC for flashing.
The only methode wich could work is flashing without USB connectein to the PC (Goldcard)
until now I didn't read a post from someone who tried it with a half bricked device, so its only a possibility for you, but the only possibility I can think of.
If you don't know what goldcard means, search the forum.
it's an external connected SD card for flashing via SD (no connection to pc needed)
The last escape of you situation would be to JTAG you device, but I'm not familiar with JTAG so its really the last thing you should test if you do not want to send it back to your local HTC partner.
In this case, when SPL is deleted,pc dnt recognised the phone in bootloader, but backup via Zune is possible in normal standby mode,so the pc can recognised the phone without problems!

Wow,
if I press "volume Down" and switch on the device, it doesn't start to the bootloader. It's just a plain startup.
Do I have half-bricked too, or what is my problem?
I get this since the downgrade to a pre-Mango-Radio exited with an error.

can you tell us steps with details
If you could write us a step by step that would be fantastic!!! =-D
SPL only semi-fixed
Are you sure it's fixed? Because when I updated to Mango, I also got an update on my bootloader (from 4.5 -> 5.0). It added a few extra lines to my SPL screen but did not fix it. Computer still does not detect the phone.
I tried this again hoping for a better fix, installed an old backup to my phone (7392) and ran the mango update process again in Zune. At 7392 (NoDo) my bootloader was still at 5.0, and broken. After mango was installed it went back to 4.5 with only the one line on the red part (see pic 1) and after that zune offered my the update again for the bootloader and put it back to 5.0. With writings in both red and green part, but no serial or usb text in the white part (see pic 2) and no connectivity to my pc.
It had me thinking that downgrading the spl from 5.0 -> 4.5 should be possible with this methood, I cant verify that because of my broken SPL. But I've read here that it's not supposed to be possible? And also that the SPL should be repairable if the update to 5.0 can do this semi-fix. If only Microsoft would send the compleat SPL instead of just updating it.
Might you be able to write a guide for us?

Problem installing HTC HD7 HSPL / RSPL

Hello to all ..
My problem is that here ..
In a few words I wanted to install in my HTC 7392 with node HD7 SPL Bootloader 4.5 and unlocked the rom modified mango ..
but before you do anything, I had to install HSPL / RSPL in my HTC HD7 ..
I downloaded the "DFT_XSPL_WP7FG1"
I followed a guide ..
MAH reached the point of selecting the SPL, the list of the program reached only up to 3.4 ..
so my HD7 being with SPL 4.5 you could not do so I tried to install the 3.4 "I did na bull****" ..
so going forward I get an error in the program where it was impossible to go on ..
So I unplugged the HD7 and I tried to do it again ..
MAH OSPL when I open "volume down and power button" not come out as written, but all I get only one written with the words "SS-BC PD29100 (4k) ..
What has happened? knows someone explain why?
I already tried to do the backup but nothing = (..
What does the spl screen say when your in bootloader?
Sounds like you have the 4.xx version.. If that's the case you need to flash an official nodo rom first. The hspl doesn't support spl's 4.xx yet.

if your Bootloader does indeed only have one thing written on it...
then you have half-bricked your device.
according to cotulla, here, it is impossible to recover such devices.
though...
according to dj.95, here, you can recover your device using the goldcard method.
good luck.

you didnt read the instructions that are in giant bold letters all over those threads...you had spl 4.5 and tried to install the hspl. youve unfortunately half bricked your phone and currently it looks like it may NOT be fixable at all. try the gold card method listed above, i havent done it or read the thread but briefly but it looks like it may be a work around. unfortunately tho youre phone is BBQ'd.

Half bricked possibilities
Hi friends. Do you really know anybody, if goldcard, Zune HTC update, JTAG or something another can solve hb problem? I am also in the "warnings late reading ignorants" club from last weak. But, I got a reply from a single "Half Bricked repairing" service near of Central Europe (GSM-TechNix.de): "Dear Sir, HTC 7 Pro is no Supported by JTAG! Sorry we can not help for this Phone." I have a little idea - to replace only internal information about bootloader version (I have no info on tricolore, but 3.2.2250.0 in Settings/about), connect to Zune and replace HTC update, if it is depend by this number. Is it possible? I have unlocked phone with pre-nodo (older backup has deleted by Zune), then HTC debug application or some homebrew features for values writing can work.
(From another forums:
_________
"Just updated my half bricked phone(bootloader problem) via Zune with HTC update for Windows Phone and the bootloader hasn't been fixed, so our only chance is with XTC Clip or DFT to come with a solution
Actually I got the same problem using an HTC Trophy A1 Version."
________
"For now your/our phone(s) are half-bricked. But as soon as a new update is available - including a new Radio Version everything will work fine again. Had the same problem when debranding my phone. After updating to 7932 via Zune everything was fine again - until I applied the leaked Mango Update.
So again - be patient "
________
"If your device is halfbricked you can use the goldcard method to recover your phone. If it's full bricked you need to make a jTag."
________
"Goldcard cannot repair halbricked WP7 phone."

). Thanks for replies, sorry for my english. M.

[TUT] How-to: downgrade SPL, flash XSPL, flash Custom ROMs & Radios

- see Zubair Kirmani's thread, here.
b. for Europe devices,
- see ansar.ath.gr's thread, here.
c. for everybody else,
- try Y-Cable method here
- or Goldcard method here.
if Bootloader version is 4.xx
download non-Test NoDo or Pre-NoDo Radio specific to your device, here.
extract the contents of the 7-zip.
turn off device. then while pressing the volume down button, boot your device.
device should be in Multi-Colored screen, which says 'Serial' in the white section.

thanks alot man this really helped me out!
I just got my phone and it has these:
OS: 7.0.7392.0
Radio software: 5.65.09.25a_22.45.50.21U
Bootloader: 3.1.2250.0
(btw its from T-mobile)
So I should be following the instructions to install RSPL and It lookss easy.
but what about my OS? can I leave the OS as it is and install one of these custom roms:
DFT's Freedom.
dotcompt's DeepShining.
itje's Touch-It.
Or do I need to update to Stock mango first?
Finally, what are radios for and should I flash a new one? if so what should I flash.
sorry about all these questions but its my first time having a WP and I dont want it to break from day one

yep, with Bootloader version 3.1 start with RSPL.
when you flash a Custom ROM, it will be replace your current OS and Radio, if included with Custom ROM.
Radios give you your signal... so, a different Radio could help give you a strong signal in places.
everything went great.

RSPL is a temporary SPL, which allows the install of an Unsigned.nbh, then returns to OSPL afterwards. aka after a reset.
HSPL is a permanent SPL, which allows the install of an Unsigned.nbh, but doesn't change to OSPL until you flash it back.

I followed these steps myself. It took a total of 20 minutes to RSPL, HSPL and install and a custom rom (DeepShining Mango). Every great guide for noobies. Although, I must point out that you do not have WMDC stated in the guide. I got a little side tracked by that.

Flashing Custom Rom - How to do?

Hi, i am quite new and i dont know how to flash custom roms. i also have some questions:
1) Do i loose all data and apps when i flash a custom rom?
2) I read, that i need to install "DFT HSPL RSPL WP7F3" first, but i also read on this page ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647 ) that i shoud not install it:
"WARNING TO ALL:
Do NOT use RSPL / HSPL with Mozart 4.XX and other RUU ROMS with MANGO.
All WP7F devices affected: MOZART, GOLD, SCHUBERT, MONDRIAN, SPARK!
It will damage your device. Not a joke."
So what to do now?
3) The custom rom of my choise would be "Nextgen+ ROM 3.1". After installing it, will i be able to receive the latest MS WP7 updates the normal way?
4) is there a not "enhanced" version of the latest Tango update? I would prefer that kind of version more then a custom one with functions/changes/bugs i do not like! If yes, where to find?
5) Is there any good how-to-do page to explain the flashing of custom roms?
THANKS

Thanks, as i wrote, the bootloader shows the info i added in my last post.
i tried to open the tool to install rspl/hspl, but that programm doesnt load. i use windows 7, but everytime i open the program there is an error. i tried the program on a win XP pc and there it is working, but also after installing ZUNE i do not have a usb driver... so where do i get a usb driver?
okay so far: i can boot an old version of the OS! right now i am running an update and hope, that the SPL-Version is working for the RSPL/HSPL cracking!
The biggest problem right now is the version of my bootloader, which is SPL-1.57
This bootloader is not supporter by the RSPL/HSPL. How can i install a new bootloader, which is compatible.
When i choose a bootloader close to the 1.57 version, e.g. 1.56 or 1.60 the installation on the pc finishs, but the device is not booting and therefore the SPL is still standing there...
Could it be, that the installation needs some time? more then 5 minutes on the device, cause it looks like that my phone is freezed after it (when i remove the usb-cable, the screen still shows the usb connection...)
What is a radio?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD7/Radios
What version should i install? Is the radio = bootloader?
More and more problems.
the OS i now have installed has just english US keyboard... the update to Mango is not working too!
**** i just want to get back to the old version...
i am from germany, had a 5.X bootloader and latest mango update!
Please, can anyone help me to get back to that state?!?

hi stephanwiw
by what you have writen , you have downgraded your phone hspl bootloader to less then 3.xx . thats good
now flash/install cotulla custom hspl number 3 http://htcfanboys.com/download/cotulla/?action=view&file=2942
once you have done that, check bootloader screen again , should say cotulla
download custom rom, enter bootloader again and flash
radio comes with rom, so before you start to play with radio install, try phone first , see how it works then.....

Thanks for the help, but i choosed another way.
Finally i managed to install a clean "normal" rom from Mango. Installed all old apps again and i am happy to have a working phone again The complicated process of hacking my device is over!
But one last question is interesting for me: Is there any Tango Rom out for the HTC HD7 without any custom changes? Can it be installed without an hacked phone? Would i lost all my data again, or would it be a real update?
Thanks!

similar problem!
hey guys! i'm new to the hd7 scene but i've done a lot of flashing previously. i've got a similar problem as stephanwiw. my SPL is the same (1.57.2250.0) and when i try to RSPL, the device just stays on the tricolour screen and doesn't restart. if i pull out the battery and go back into tricolour screen, it just says i still have OSPL of 1.57. i have windows 7 (64 bit) and i have WMDC installed.
does anyone know what the issue is here?
all help is appreciated
EDIT: just updating for anyone else who has a similar problem because i found a very simple solution
i was only choosing the closest SPL to mine which was 1.56. but then i chose one which was larger than the SPL that i had and that was 1.60. and that's all i needed. it actually makes sense in retrospect as to downgrade any SPL you need to flash an official ROM, so i guess this was a stupid mistake.

Hi guys
I have a htc hd7 and I tried to downgrade it to pre mango by using ROM by ansar. when it reached a 100% there was an error message saying 270 image is corrupted.
After several attempts my started working with this rom and the tricolor screen now says:
PD29100 MFG SS-BC (4K)
SPL-1.57.2250.0(113571)
MicroP(LED) 0x07
TOUCH S1(v1.8,#1624)
When I try to install RSPL my phone is recognised but it doesn't restart at the end of the process and RSPL isn't istalled. I tried all the versions 1.56, 1.60, 1.61, 1.64, 1.68, 1.69 but still I can't install RSPL
Can please someone help?
Thanks
hi jtsek
RSPL is not permenant, and only used once, so after every flash you have to flash again
HSPL will stay on your phone always,
but remenber if phone needs repair/warranty then before you send it, you have to flash stock rom again to get rid of HSPL because void warranty

Chevron Unlock will look work with pre-Mango. you will need to use Goldcard method to downgrade. I suggest just flashing a Custom ROM, you will get more features besides adding a few apps. see tutorial I wrote, link in my signature.

What errors or problems did you have when trying the goldcard method?
Since you have an HTC Asia WWE operator device, the SLSPL method by Ansar will not work for you.
The only other way for you to downgrade 5.xxx would be the Zubair - Pre-Mango Zune restore point method. Requires you to have a Pre-Mango restore point through Zune, meaning that you have updated the device from a Pre-Mango state to Mango and still have the computer that you did it on. If you use this method make sure to read the directions carefully... The devices SPL will not be downgraded when you revert back to Pre-Mango state, it changes the SPL when you re-update the device through Zune again and the key part is that the device will reboot twice during the update once to change the SPL to 4.xxx and once to actually install Mango and at this point you have to stop the update process and unplug the device before it installs the 3 update which is the HTC firmware update and if that update is installed the devices SPL will be upgraded to 5.xxx again and you will be stuck in the same position.

Ahh , since my devide is having a semi bricked this method wont work on mine , when i go to the bootloader it does not show the "serial/USB" in the bottom. means its semi bricked
Usually if the device hangs in "USB host mode" its due too -
1. The SD card reader... Try a different card reader. This is the most common problem and if your card reader uses a USB cable (like a printer style USB cable) try a different cable.
2. Make sure the only file on the SD card is the SCHUIMG.nbh ( has to be capitalized when renaming the ruu_signed.nbh)
3. The camera button can get stuck pushed in and prevent the device from flashig
4. Try switching around the Y cable connections.
5. If you make the Y cable to long in length it can cause a problem with trying to read the file.
Also when the device gets stuck in "Enter USB host mode or Loading" you have to pull the battery and re-enter USB host mode to try and start the flash process again.
Try these and let me know how it goes.
