Hi, after some frustrated searches I am stuck with the following situation.
A laggy i9000 with the following rom I9000XXJPM.
Since I am a Mac OS user, I cannot use ODIN (have XP on my bootcamp, but does not see my phone). Yet, I would love to replace the current recovery 3e with 2e so I can install unsigned updates. That way, I can flash new roms through "Rom manager", and even install Voodoo.
Can anyone tell me how?
Help is much appreciated.
I've never used it personally but you can look at Heimdall.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
"What is Heimdall?
Heimdall is a cross-platform open-source tool suite used to flash ROMs onto Samsung Galaxy S devices.
How does it work?
Heimdall uses the same protocol as Odin to interact with a device in download mode. USB communication in Heimdall is handled by the popular open-source USB library, libusb-1.0."
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
I have to give this a try
I only have access to linux computers.
Can I flash a new ROM without winblows?
You do not need windows. Search heimdall, as an odin replacement
Would anyone be kind enough to tell me how I can flash CM7 with Odin? I tried installing Heimdall, and I cannot get past error 12, and also error 3, so IDK what is up with that. Odin works, and I've used it to flash the overcome rom before. But I don't know in what order to flash the files, or if I need to reboot and flash more files, etc.
My tab is on ... GT-P1000, firmware 2.3.3, baseband P1000XXJPZ,
Kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2, build number GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
Please. Thank you.
Why not just flash via cwr

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried that, and it did not work for me.
S, have you rooted the tab and installed CWM or just flashed the rooted kernel with CWM already cooked in?
Its no good just flashing to gingerbread.
Also, with Heimdall, you need to flash the drivers 1st. Its called Zadig.exe in the drivers folder. It won't work otherwise ( this will take a little while, it even says so).
If you want to go back to Samsung drivers afterwards, just put the tab into download mode again (after flash is complete) and rollback the drivers. This has worked multiple times on my PC using Windows 7 64 bit...
hey guys,
so i flashed this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804226 to downgrade from 3e to 2e after using the heimdall one click back to stock 2.1, but now i cant seem to get write permission when i connect my phone to usb, and after i rooted the device, installed rom manager, and tried to install CWM, it says its installed, but when i try to reboot into recovery, it still only goes back to 2e.. does anyone have any idea what to do..
thanks for your help
also i need to do this through heimdall, as odin does not seem to detect the phone anymore..

You probly need to reinstall closed-source and proprietary Odin drivers if you've got open-source Heimdall drivers on your computer
to install recovery, hit the reinstall pacakges button twice in recovery.
Thanks Adam.. You always seem to have all the right answers. As for the drivers then, are you saying I just need to re install the regular Samsung drivers for the phone to replace theheimdall one?
Yes, that is what he is saying. Those drivers conflict. But don't just reinstall the Samsung divers over the heimdall one, uninstall it first.
Hi all,
I use Mac and Linux and I need to restore stock rom on my Ace S5830i (just to be clear, I can enter download mode, but not recovery mode)
I'm a newbie with this sort of issue, so, sorry in advance for my dumbness
Can I use Heimdall with my S5830i? I read a paste thread where they said it was not compatible. Is is today with the new version?
Thank you very much!

No! Heimdall is only for Samsung Galaxy S devices. I tried many times to install onepackage roms on my s5830i with Heimdall on Linux Ubuntu 12.10 x86 without successfully

If you want to try install rom with odin in VirtualBox with windows xp or 7 it's not possible . . . I tried it many times . . . Phone work only in USB Mass Storage mode but not in download mode.
