Use an app or Use ADB
Hello mvoid533,
Let me help you. Currently, you cannot boot to clockworkmod recovery by pressing any key unless you install eRecovery by huexxx. Read more here.
The easiest way is to boot up normally. Go to Play Store and download an app call "Quick Boot". Run the app and tap on "Recovery".
OR, you can download terminal emulator from the app store. Run the app and type these commands.
su
reboot recovery
Take note, press enter after su and allow Root Access. Press enter after reboot recovery and you phone will boot to clockworkmod Recovery.
So there you go, 3 steps. You choose
Thank u
I'll try it

So my vol. down button has broken on my captivate. In stock recovery it wont allow you to cycle through the menu by hitting volume up(the volume button that works). In order to root typically you have to scroll down one selection and select re-install packages to install SU, but seeing as how my volume down button is broken I cant do that. . . So are there any other ways to get root so I can flash back to cm7? Or even a method of simply replacing stock recovery since CWM recovery allows you to cycle through the menu by hitting volume up? As of now I'm a slave to stock, and it's no fun
I am not 100% sure... But can't you use the adb console and do what you need?

Thank you for confirming this for me. I was away from the computer and haven't had to use ADB in a while.
For anyone who is wondering. I found a way to root without the use of the volume buttons. By using a very convenient application. Here is a link to the site on how to do it.

Are you soft bricked/bootloop or ?? If you are you can try to iniate download through ADB (I've not done it since my first root so search for more info) or get a jig on ebay (or make one).
Try recovery first though bud, because if you can enter recovery then surely you must be doing something wrong to enter download. If need be, a jig from eBay (£9.99) or ADB which comes with the Android SDK

in the adb shell, you can use:
reboot recovery
push enter, that s all !
So my volume+ up button recently broke and I can't get into the recovery to flash roms now. In cyanogen mod I could just hold power, choose reboot, then choose recovery and it would do it automatically. Then I flashed miui and it doesn't automatically go into recovery so now I'm stuck. What way can I get it to automatically load the update.zip? I can use 'adb reboot recovery' but it wont make it load the update.zip it just sits at the triangle with exclamation mark.
This should do the trick:
Code:
mkdir /cache/recovery
echo '--update_package=SDCARD:update.zip' > /cache/recovery/command

That gets the phone to recovery, not to load the update.zip.

Anyone know how to get into recovery mode, seems there's no way to get in there. Tried vol-up Home & power button but nothing works.

Can you explain more details.
No adb-windows.exe this directory.
And what we do?
Read the build file damn.. we have full access to recovery .. on a powered on phone... forget the recovery ..
# Enable RecoverySystem to emit "factory-reset" reset string
# instead of "recovery" when doing a factory reset. This is

If you do the adb reboot recovery just once you should be able to boot into recovery by holding Power + Menu buttons.
Are you sure?
Well I'm not a 100% if that's what you mean.

Another method
1. Up the new rom that is rooted by odin. That's mean your phone has rooted
2. You install quick boot app from the market play. Then open quick boot and hit recovery

yeah, it also works with rom toolbox (-> rebooter -> reboot in recovery) and rom manager (-> reboot in recovery).

You need ROOT
Hi!
I download CWM Touch recovery from this link "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826378"
and after i download and install this app i open it and press "Install recovery"
After i successfully installed the recovery (i get message "success OK")
then i press "boot recovery" my mobile has reboot and not at all to turn on
i try to remove battery and try again with taping on screen or pressing volume buttons but nothing
Can someone help me with that?
You did unlock boot loader, didn't you? If not that's the cause of your phone not being able to boot anymore.
Try to connect your phone to your PC and flash the original firmware with LG Flash Tool.
