I downloaded the CM7 source today to give porting a go spent 4 hours or so writing scripts etc for the p970 thought I could use a bunch of the libs from other phones etc like the galaxy S for the power VR libs and stuff like that...
first just wondering why no one has thought of this before guessing its not doable before i go any further any rom devs given this a go?
it's not so easy
port cm7 to p970 is a huge work
and maybe few mount later ,LG release official 2.3 update,CM7 may release a version for us,i guess

well, it's hard but not imposible.
there is no official gingerbread release for huawei ideos x5 but they have four different custom gingerbread rom(inculding cm7 and miui)
our devices need more developer love

you're right. not only more developers but also users, users give devs power
Yeah i figured it'd be a lot of work i haven't got time atm to do much but hopefully during the next holidays i'll have a better look.
Well, Google has announced an incremental update to Ice Cream Sandwich, called Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and it's Phone and tablet UI like ICS.
Little info here.
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html
So, it's using ICS and Honeycomb driver model, but there are other things like the so-called "LAG free" that seems to be a real change inside android, but I think devs will get a workaround. So, is possible to port this new update?

Maybe, hope that ...
Right now we still haven't stable Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS),
But I think if we -hope soon, then we could have a stable Cyanogenmod 10 (Jelly Bean) .. What ????!!!! Cyanogenmod 10 !! looks good
Thanks for news
Best Regards
Seems it's not a bug update..close to ics, so just might happen.
Don't forget about hardware limitation.
We won't get all the features from Jelly Bean. Even ICS, we won't.
I think CM9 is already a magical ROM coming for us.
To have a Jelly Bean, it's quadratic magic! lol.
Let's hope we have CM9 without bugs and then AOKP too.
For now, it's more logical.
We have not got ICS till yet and you are talking about jelly bean
Still a long way to go

Like I knew somebody is going to ask is somebody going to port JB to our device... it does not give us THAT much improvements to spend time on development.
And, what everybody said above, even ICS is not usable (no camera, lack of RAM, lots of bugs). Luckily, i'm happy with my Gingerbread CM7.2, and i'm just watching the situation closely
ICS CM9 Camera?
Can someone tell me whether Camera is working on the most recent CM9 ROM (GalaxyICS) for Galaxy mini.
I heard that Camera is somewhat working and we may have a working Camera in the next release. Is this true, someone give some info on this, please.

Currently it's not working !
But we may have working camera in few releases

We already have a working camera in the new upcoming cm 9
Then there will be bug updates though fm radio has a long way to go but stock ics can still get a radio so we can hope cm 10 or jelly bean to start by next year minimum, and cheers.

Don't get over-excited guys, ics barely works on gmini right now due to low ram *edit* low EVERYTHING, and I assume that jellybean will simply be more resource-demanding, so just pull your horses until we get properly working ics m'kay? To be honest, I don't believe that we will ever get cm9/ics as stable as cm7, simply due to hardware limitations of galaxy mini.
Next year this phone will be the worstest of the worst... cmon, 600MHz processor in 2013?
Forget about Jelly Bean, we still have bugs in ****ing gingerbread (camera orientation), ICS is not stable enough too...
it is possible to make a buggy android 4.1 port from gnexus ...
but i dont think that that will be cool xD

Galaxy Nexus is ARMv7. Just wait for the source.
Question first...Why port something we know won't ever be able to run stable on our device because we don't have drivers which is kept close sourced?
And also that drivers just can't be compiled as with happened to the Adreno200 drivers for ICS to armv6.
You need to rewrite the whole code, possibly even write new code to drivers for our device. And I doubt the people who make these drivers and publish these sort of stuff want to spend any extra work on trying to make it work on our devices.
We'll be stuck with Gingerbread guys. End of story.
No, JB is a "small" update. Drives from ICS will work fine on JB. So, it may even be a little faster. Anyway, I will try to build it when source comes out.
sry not the kernel, it needs to be modded -.-

The worst is the HTC Dream.
AOKP feels smoother than GB...

Lol, show me one advanced user that still has HTC Dream as his main phone? After all it has 528 MHz CPU (slow POS just like our mini), and has been released 2 years (or more?) earlier than Galaxy mini - how can you compare that?
And.. why would one buy an HTC - they are so ****ing complicate to flash - HBOOT, fastboot, bootloader downgrade, firmware downgrade, using the command prompt in windows - nothing here on Samsung
Are there any developers willing to try to create a ROM based on Jelly bean yet? I would be interested if there were.
Mod edit : not development moved to Q & A
Need a JB kernel to make a real JB ROM...locked bootloader, silly goose.

Didn't stop people from making ICS roms. Now that we have a supported ICS kernel with full hardware acceleration I can't imagine Jelly Bean being that difficult to implement since it's a fairly minor update. It may be difficult getting all the "project butter" optimizations working without the JB kernel though.
Defy with locked bootloader and even old GB kernel has JB port now. From Eclair,Froyo,Gingerbread,ICS till JB. They have a much supported developers.

From what I have read, dhacker29 is working on a build of 4.1 for the Razr and once its done he will port it to the Bionic since hardware wise they are very similar. Considering the changes from 4.0 to 4.1 are mostly small, I doubt we will need a new kernel like we did when going from 2.3 to 4.0. Still I expect we will see an official 4.1 release later this year from Motorola.
So I don't know much about Android development but since JB is supposedly pretty close to ICS, now that ICS is officially out, does this mean a JB with a working camera is possible? Or am I a dumbass?

I think people who assume and who dont actually ask questions are dumb... never think that of some1 who openly asks
Anything is possible, but doubt it cause as far as I know, simply adding drivers from ICS to a JB build isn't all that easy. Could be very wrong though
Hi All,
Still sense rom with Jelly Bean not released right? Is it not possible at all? I know if it was possible devs would have made it.. but still.. many HTC handsets got JB update,.. why not any port to our phone..
I am on MiUi JB rom and certainly miss sense as its still on ICS..

I'd suggest you do a snooping around in the Development Forums first, but because there are a lot of ROMs in which it was discussed, Ill just tell you here.
To put it simply, it is possible but quite difficult. It is possible to have Jellybean Sense running on our device but A LOT of kernel work has to be done. JellyBean kernels require something call Ion. Some devices support it natively (like the newer ones) while others like our device, does not support it natively, and as a result, there are some conflicts, the most common and widely known is probably the camera breaking. Some libs and modules need to be fixed/replaced in order for the Jellybean ROM to work.
But patience, if a dev has the time, maybe he/she will work on a Jellybean Sense kernel for us.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. So the Kernel is the issue here for the JB sense ROM development. I will just have to wait for the kernel to be developed..
and yeah snooping around the Dev forum, I am a mad flasher.. I have flashed all the firmware that are currently released for HTC on the dev forum and have played around with all dude
Was patiently waiting for a JB sense.. Guess I have to wait more..
Thanks a lot for the detailed explaination..
Brilliant explanation by 072665995, but dont get your hopes up guys

Agreed, brilliant explanation.
Yeah seriously!! Sense is so awesome that release of new version of JellyBean just makes its so expected to have a sense version of it. Bad that we face an issue in achieving that..
