Hi guys,
I've been having some issues while trying to update my gt-i9000m from gingerbread 2.3.3 to ICS.
I have rooted my phone successfully, at least I think I have as I was able to install super user/busy box/ROM Manager.
Whenever I attempt to enter CWM via the app I am still sent to the default Android system recovery <3e> screen and I receive an error saying E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid argument) E: signature verification failed and am unable to continue with flashing ICS onto my phone. If I attempt to CM9 from there I also receive a signature verification error.
I suspect this may have something to do with Super User failing to retain updates to the SU binaries. When running the update I am told that the update is successful and when I check I see that the latest version of the binary had in fact been pushed to my phone after restarting my phone these updates seemed to have disappeared.
Does anybody have an suggestions as to how I could continue with this update? I am using a rooted UGKG3 kernel to attempt the above.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information...
You can try using finding a jw4/5/6 official firmware on xda and flashing it, probably ramad's thread. After letting it boot up, then try midnight gingerbread kernel via odin. From midnight's recovery, then try flashing the cwm flashable ics rom. Make sure to back up efs, sd card, and app data via titanium backup or something. Sorry, can't find links for you, on phone.

What kernel did you use to install recovery?
I remember reading back when, don't bother with ROM manager for anything. Getting into the right(?) recovery and having to change zip names....
And presumably you've seen this thread:

First. I think you need flash clockworkmod recovery, it help you flash a Custom rom

There is no error message it just show ! in triangle
You have to wait for 6-7 minutes to complete the process. Be sure liquid is fully charged and debug usb is activated.
Keep in mind you cannot update liquid with liquid e roms.

Thanks for you reply, I just want to add that I am trying to upgrade it through application being on SD card and by pressing camara button + down vol then power button, My Acer had Liquid Galaxy 2.1 , kernel Version 2.6.29-phh
You can't install in recovery mode cause it's not a zip file, it's a bin file. You need acer download tool, then youhave to put the recovery back gain.

Any solution for this? I have fido liquid e but malez is conflicting and gives assertion error

delete the update.zip file or remove it from your SD Card and run the Acer DownloadTool again. AcerTool flashes a .bin file if you are using it correctly.
Just upgraded my Liquid E to 2.2. I followed the instructions in the PDF and it worked fine. I would try copying the files to the SD card again.
I'm totally lost on this. I have 2.1 stock with Malez recovery installed on it. No matter what I do, I just cannot get it to work?
Is there a step by step instruction on how to "flash" a bin file and then upgrade it for Fido phone? I have Acer Liquid E Fido. I have been working on it for 2 days now and cannot get it to work.
edit: finally got it to work by installing another (10 different) version first and reinstalling a one that doesn't have the assert

Sorry, but you can not install the acer rom. Because you are not using original rogers eclair, or you've flashed Malez recovery.
There is a couple ways you could get around this.
1. There is a Modified rom based on the official acer release at Modaco.com. It doesn't make any assert checks.
2. If you have the original rogers eclair kickin around you could flash it onto your device. You might need to flash a 2.1 eclair bin(leak) first depending on what you're running now. Once this is done you'll be able to use the acer official, and pass all assert checks.
Spice MI 300 :- Want to update from 2.1 to 2.2
Hi every one
i have a spice android phone MI-300 and want to update the 2.1 version to 2.2 manually could anyone of you guide me how to do it on my own as I dont think the company is upcoming with and 2.2 upgrade.
Please help
Abhishek
The simplest way of doing it would be flashing the latest malez recovery. Then using acer download and flashing the proper generic 1.0 rom. After then you should have went to acer website and downloaded a european (generic 2.2 rom) followed directions and did the proper upgrade. You can also apply the patch after (under patches tab)
Worked like a charm for me back in the day.
I have been trying to root my phone and seem to be having problems. I have searched and found some people having the same problems but could not find an answer.
I tried using AIO Captivate Toolbox 3.0 and when it reboots in recovery and I click on reinstall packages I get this error..
signature verification failed. Installation aborted
I tried super on click and it says its rooted and there is an superuser icon on my phone but when it asks to test to see if its rooted and asks me to check my phone, nothing happens. I then install rom manager and thats installs fine and I can install Clockwork Recovery but when I get it to boot in recovery it just brings me back to the recovery 3e and I will try to reinstall packages again and it gives me this error..
e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
So I dont know what Im doing wrong. I had a Sony xperia x10 and im use to flashing and installing roms on that. This phone is much different lol

I had the same issue and I found this solution. Worked like a charm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Download the 3e_recovery_installer.zip file only and unzip.
Put your unit in Debugging mode and connect to the USB cable on your PC
Run the Install.bat file from DOS prompt and wait.
A temporary root will be performed (Doesn't matter if you're rooted or not, I was already rooted and had no issues)
Once completed, reboot into CWR. You will probably get the standard recovery screen. Select Reinstall Package and let it go. Select Reboot. (If the machine boots to the OS, go back to Rom Manager and reboot to CWR again to test.)
If the E3 Recovery screen comes up again, select Reinstall Package again. (Yes, you have to do it twice!)
As soon as it's done the CWR screen will pop up. From here on out, it should work as normal when selected from the Rom Manager app.
Hope that helps,
Now if someone would just post the Captivate AT&T default Notification sounds for me, I'd be a happy camper! I miss my old sounds!

It won't work for me, I'm on stock 2.2 (already rooted) and when Itry it I get:

Any idea how to make it work??

Hi guys,
I am getting an error as you were getting when trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S.
I am currently running on stock Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Baseband version : I9000DDJV5
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and installed ROM Manager on it. Then, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery using it. Now, I am trying to flash Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my device and have downloaded it and kept it in the root directory of the SDcard. Now, whether I go to recovery mode manually or using ROM Manager, I am getting the error as below:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid Argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Also, I get only four options in the recovery mode, viz, reboot, apply update from SDcard, wipe data, wipe cache partition.
I get the same error when I try to Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager.
I searched through threads and found that some people have had similar errors but there is no solution I could find which worked for me.
I have tried clearing my download cache. Also, the download is not corrupt as I am getting the same error when trying to create a back up..
Is there any way I can correct this? Or is there any other work around for flashing like using Odin? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I can get into download mode..but how to proceed after that?
I am currently running on my stock rom JV9.. so, you mean to say that I should first upgrade to JVU using download mode and then proceed to upgrading it further?
Can you please also tell how to upgrade to JVU using download mode?
Thanks
SIMPLE WAY TO ROOT AND FLASH LATEST ICS
1. Flash by Odin (download Odin) Semaphore 1.2.0 kernel (as PDA, UNtick repartition, UNtick reboot).
2. Take out battery.
3. Go into recovery (vol up + home + power, release power after few secs)
4. In recovery mount internal SD (sdcard) and plug phone to PC. Delete all files from internal SD (if you don't have any important files). Copy latest CM9 and gapps to internal SD. Unmount internal SD.
5. In "mounts" menu use every (excluding internal and external SD card!!!) "format" option.
6. Go to flash ZIP menu and choose CM9 ZIP, then gapps.
7. Turn off recovery (phone).
8. Turn on phone and wait to boot.
Hope I helped.
Re:
Hi,
Problem here is that you didn't flash ClockworkMod recovery. If you only have four options it means you just have Recovery 3e - which is stock on most devices sold with GingerBread. I assume you are new to this so ClockworkMod recovery might be a little tricky to use.
I suggest you go to http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v11-0-black-edition-android-4-0-4-ics.7941/ and follow the guide there.
I'm not saying that Darky has the best ROM there is but it does have a nice complete guide for flashing from stock.
Good luck

Hey.. I had flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager..It is also showing that my current recovery is : ClockworkMode 2.5.1.2
But you are right that when I boot into recovery mode, it shows Android System Recovery <3e> written at the top and gives only four options..
I went to the DarkyRom guide you mentioned..Here is the written guide
1-If you're coming from a Froyo (Android 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) ROM, follow these steps;
Have your phone rooted with CWM
Make a NANDROID backup & Titanium backup & backup anything you need or find important on a PC
Now, I don't understant what does the first step means exactly? How to go about rooting with CWM and make a NANDROID backup without ROM Manager?
Please help..Thanks
For an update..I found a guide to flash leaked version of 2.3.6 XWJW1 using Odin.. and I have been able to apply that successfully on my phone..I have rooted my phone again using Odin this time.. But now too, if I am trying to backup using ROM Manager, it is giving me the same error.. Is there a way or a guide that tells how to upgrade to cyanogenmod 9 or 7.2 using Odin..instead of doing it through the recovery mode..?
No. CM7 or CM9 you can only flash from custom recovery (CWM).
And one important thing: do NOT use ROM Manager, don't ask why
Just use my tutorial. But be aware that you have to delete anything from phone.

Only ICS roms will do such as cm9.

I have rolled back to 2.3.6 now but still it is not in service and not showing any baseband either.. Please advice what should I do!! Thanks for the help
You probably have damaged IMEI. If your IMEI in phone status starts with 000... you have damaged IMEI. Now you have to flash stock ROM by Odin with repartition (or 1st with Clear EFS option, 2nd without this option), backup EFS (Google!), use my guide again, and after that restore EFS.
After restarting phone, you'll get right IMEI and you should have network signal.
Hope I helped.
BTW, there's no explanation for damaging IMEI.
Hi, sorry if i'm not posting in the correct section it's just that i can't find a section for the galaxy ace gt-5839i so this was the closest thing. The other day i rooted the gt-5839i and then decided i would be an idiot and atempted to install cwm4 and now the phone is stuck on the screen that displays the model number. I can boot into recovery but doing a data reset/wipe or wiping the cache or trying to install a new rom is not working at all, all it says is E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument) so i'm guessing i probably need to reflash an appropriate stock recovery (2.3.6) to fix this it's just that i can't find one and don't know which i should try if anyone could help me out on this one i would be extremely greatful as at the moment the phone useless, thanks.
first, download your stock firmware from samfirmware.com
then download odin, and learn how to use that

Hi folks,
I've done some searching and I *think* I've tried most stuff, but I'm guessing (and hoping) I've missed something and someone can help!
Euro P1000, previously running stock UK / Euro Gingerbread. Recently rooted using (if I recall), SuperOneClick.... didn't seem to finish correctly, but trying other stuff after appeared to show it rooted.
Tried to flash an ICS ROM this week, and managed to install GB Stock Safe v5, (and / or Overcome_7_Seriesv4.1.0_wipe) and it booted and went through setup process and ran fine. I then tried to flash MiUi ICS and I've not had a successful boot since.
I can get into recover, but with the following errors:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
But it appears to let me reflash Overcome, for instance, and it seems to complete, but I still get the same result: Boots to the b&w Samsung Galaxy Tab screen and stays there for evermore.
I can get into download mode, but Odin doesn't see it.
I have a card reader and can put stuff onto the microSD, and CWM appears to let me flash it, despite the mount errors.
Help anyone?
Bit more info... a Heimdall restock seems to run ok, showing "100% Param Upload Successful" etc., but reboots into CWM Recovery, still with the mount errors. If I try to re-partition the SD Card (internal, I presume), it appears to complete with no errors, but I still only get the B&W galaxy tab boot screen. However, after partitioning (says "Done!"), I still get the same errors. Screwed flash chips?
That's right, you lot stay quiet and I'll sort it out myself.
Well, after what seems to be doing the same thing, yet again (namely CWM, wiping everything in sight, and flashing overcome_7_Series_4.1.0_wipe, it's alive, with seemingly no issues.
So, was my problem related in any way to MiUi ROM? Should I be looking at something else?
BTW, this is a mate's tab (yes, I was sweating!!). Mine has CM9 RC1 on it, seems ok-ish, what's the latest and greatest version of this? And what did I do wrong and how do I not do it next time?
Will so many questions cost me?
I have simple questions for you.
When you flash miui, which one, us it an ICS miui by ronak.super, and mtd base ROM?
If so, did it flash completely? You need to flash twice any ICS tom from GB.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it was the ronak.super one.
Sorry, I'm either too noob or have forgotten all steps due to panic to remember the process in detail. Guessing the step before flashing Miui was GB_Stock_Safe_v5 or Overcome_7_Series_4.1.0, honestly don't recall what I did when. Fairly sure it was GB_stock_safe_v5, since the guide says to restock first.
BTW, what happened to Team Overcome?
Seems to be gone for good?
The right step is GB stock safe then overcome 4.0 kernel tar using Odin.
Then flash miui twice. Then gapps and reboot.
The fact that you still can flash overcome 4.1rom after failed miui, somehow your partition didn't get converted to mtd at all.
If that has happened, you would need restock to go back to overcome.
Cm9.1 has a stable released now if you want that.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
So, I have the tab back to overcome v4.0.0 #40 (stock safe?) and I'm thinking I'll flash Cyanogenmod 9.1. Do I need to do anything else in between, or can I just dowloaf and flash? Is it mtd, and if so, will it sort itself out or do I need to do something to convert?
Thanks again for your help.

Should be only cm9.1 ROM for p1 and gapps, nothing else.
Conversion is done by the updater.
remember to flash cm9.1 twice.

That sounds ominous, richuu, failure to mount /cache can mean the internal storage chip is going bad. Didi you solve it? Is it all right?
