[Q] Samsung Captivate unlock not working? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having some serious issues with my phone. I downloaded an unlock app and it said that the phone was unlocked but when I put in my new SIM it keeps giving me a SIM not provisioned MM#2 pop up. I changed the APN settings for what straight talk requires and the settings are saved but it still isnt working. Do I need to unfreeze the phone and how do I tell if it is? What do I have to do to get this thing to work? :crying:

Did you root your phone first? If not, this will help. Read the full post before you do anything.

Also, try this app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731931
Even though it says SGS 1/2/3, if you select the GT-i9000 as your phone and give it your nvdata.bin file it will give you a code that will work. At least it did on my Captivate.

I honestly do not know if you need the SIM card or not to access the market which will allow you to get the "Galaxy S Unlock" app. I have tried the "Galaxy S Unlock" app before but I could never get it working (with stock FW and Stock FW + Root). Im pretty sure that you cannot use that app once you update from Stock FW to Stock FW + JH7 (the original "GPS fix" back in Sept). However, the way I got my unlock code was the following steps:
1) Go back to complete stock FW using the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
2) Root the device using the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304&highlight=click+root
3) Get your unlock code using the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761751
This may be the long method but this is the only way I have ever gotten my unlock code. But then again, once I got my unlock code, I never tried to get it again. The above steps that I took did not require a AT&T sim card at all.
I hope that helps.
Hey! Even i got this phone from United States to India and now even i m in a fix that how do i unlock. please tell me did u manage to unlock the phone?

[Q] No SIM card in phone

OK guys... I usually lurk, but find myself now needing help.
In an attempt to help my friend, I was going to root his phone and install a custom ROM. The phone is a 1010 build and I forgot to remove the SIM when performing one-click-root.
Now the phone will not recognize the SIM card. I don't think the SIM is bad because it won't recognize mine either and my card works in my phone.
I followed the instructions for 1010 builds back to JH2 and the SIM is still not recognized. The phone came with JH7 installed, but I figured that the SIM would be recognized after booting into JH2.
Can anyone offer assistance?
Thanks.
EDIT: His SIM works in my phone. Just thought you might ask.
Bump please

I had this happen in my old Tilt lol. Try backing up the sim from your phone and if not, you have to get a new sim.

The SIM card still works... just not in this phone. It works in my captivate. I think I am in trouble here. <slaps self> That's what I get for rooting company phones. :\
If anyone knows something that I can try to get this phone to recognize the SIM... please chime in. Right now I am back to JH7 rooted.
verify that you have the right modem in it and check the APN settings
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: I897UCJH7
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
How do I check the APN settings?
Sorry... can't verify APN settings if SIM is not detected. Looks like I'm hosed. Thanks for the replies.
APN shouldn't affect recognizing the SIM. Are other SIMs working with this phone? You may want to try either a master clear, or downloading the ODIN version of 2.2 stock to see whether they will recognize SIMs before returning the phone.
Try a rom! Or kb1 or ji6 try flashing like everything to it, hopefully that'll do something also go to settings>privacy>factory data reset and make sue you backup first

Yes i know. My sim card still worked in my captivate just not my tilt, all you need to do is go to at&t and tell them your sim card isnt working. They should be able to transfer your contact and get you a new one. But this just a last resort, try these guys suggestions

You can get apn settings by pitying your friends sim in your phone

even new apn settings wont load if its not detecting the old sim. i ran into this but didnt fix it. got replaced. different situation....
i had this after a noobish bad flash where i odin'd to phone instead of pda.
i lied my ass off and got the phone replaced that night, as i NEEDED the phone THAT NIGHT no time to play and fix myself. that was by bad! now i flash at night only when i wont need my phone for hours.
you dont need to take out your sim to root. i never have. i use oneclickroot 1.7.
so im not sure what you did to screw it up.
but if someone elses SIM works in your phone then that means the phone is fine. AND if your SIM doesnt work then it means your SIM doesnt work!

[Q] CSC showing "Unknown" - will this prevent roaming/other SIM cards?

Hi everyone,
I have a Rogers (Canada) Galaxy Captivate. I flashed to Serendipity VII, and my CSC is now showing "Unknown", and /system/csc is missing.
I roam with the phone a lot, and I use other countries' SIMs when I can. Will this prevent me from connecting to other networks, should I get this resolved before I do anything further? I tried flashing a CSC-Multi from JVS and it did nothing - just reset all my apps. /system/csc still missing.
Thanks,
-pN
Nope. Csc is basically irrelevant. You'll need your phone unlocked to use another providers sim tho if your phone is branded. Look up the efs nvdata hex edit method for the best way to manually unlock your phone if you haven't already.

ok - thx. as for the unlock... here's a weird one. I did it using the 1-click unlocked and tested it with the two local providers (Rogers and Fido). that worked. I then took it to India and tried to put a vodafone / airtel sim - and it wouldn't even find mobile networks! flashed to another modem (JVS), didn't help.
poked around and I think the imei got trashed as it was showing the default junked imei. I restored the efs and re-unlocked, this time using the galaxy unlocked from the marketplace. curious to see if this was the reason why airtel/vodafone were rejecting my phone...

[Q] Current way to SIM unlock Bell i9000m 2.3.3

Hi
What is the best way to unlock a Bell i9000M running 2.3.3 UGKG3?
I just bought simunlcoker from the market.. worked like a charm... I'll get you the exact app in a bit my phone is currently off and charging.
if this can be done by a simple app I would prefer a free one however
or instructions on how do to it from the command line
there is a free version of the app and it use to unlock sim in 2.1, I had to buy it after that....
Lookup in market SGS Unlock, by Dagentooboy
pro is 5.00 and I can confirm in maybe 20 mins if it still works.

Just put in a Rogers SIM card and my phone is still unlocked...
Tried SGS Unlock Tool. Both methods didn't work.
Then I tried Galaxy S Unlock. The second method worked, I think, but I need to confirm with a SIM card.
Root was needed.
sometimes you need to put in the new SIM card, boot the phone (get a sim lock error) then run the APP , reboot phone and should work.
Confirmed: Galaxy S Unlock works. It's free. And you don't need a SIM card to run it.

I can also confirm, use the Galaxy S Unlock app from the Android App store (now renamed the Play Store). The FAQ talks about needing Busybox installed, but I didn't install it and it worked flawlessly for me. Mind you, my phone is rooted with SuperUser, so who knows maybe that's why it worked.
For those thinking of unlocking their phone DON'T CONTACT BELL FOR AN UNLOCK CODE. They will push a $75 fee for a code that doesn't work (here try mine and see 09182086).
I wasted over 6 hours with Bell customer service to no avail. The app developed by Helroz is free, but I'll be giving him a donation because his app WORKS!!! It took less then a min for me to unlock my phone with his app, LESS THEN A MIN!!! Can you tell I'm happy!!
Here's another unlock code given to me by Bell but equally didn't work but I like to share so 62189513. And if my sharing means Bell doesn't screw others out of $75 bucks then it will certainly put a smile on my face.
Enjoy folks, and remember spread the love to other Bell customers with Galaxy S phones. Bell will never get another penny from me.

[Q] cannot use *#7465625# after CM9 mod

I just upgrade my Captivate to CM9 ICS from GB. When I enter *#7465625# to check the lock status. Nothing happens. I remember it worked fine when I did this prior to the upgrade. Is it nornal? or did I break anything?
Thanks.

You didn't break anything . Pretty much all the special codes I've ever used stops working on ICS and JB. That being said I'm guessing you're wanting to check your GPS lock status. Download GPS Test from the play store and that should show you everything you'll ever want to know about your lock status.
I might not be very clear in my question, Sorry.
I actually want to vertify if my phone is locked or unlocked after the upgrade; like using *#06# to review the IMEI.

I wasn't able to find a good solution for this either (did an unlock a couple weeks ago). I had to just try it with a SIM card from a phone on another network.
Once unlocked ---- Always unlocked.
And the reason those USSD Codes won't work...basically from what lil I know...is because they are either Samsung ussd codes or Carrier Specific Codes and therefore you need to be on a Stock Firmware for them to work (like m1batt1 was pointing out). --- Although some may by chance work.
There is a flashable zip that will restore the *#*#2263#*#* code on the Cappy which let's you change modem frequencies but I don't think it restores that code. Browse through the Slim threads. I'm on my phone and cannot link the zip.
