Milestone Not Charging! - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I had Recently received my desktop pc from the repair shop and i plugged it in and wanted to transfer some files..
When i did so my phone's display went off!
I immediately unplugged my phone from the computer and it appeared to be working fine. Afterwards i plugged my phone into the wall charger but there was no light and it did not charge! But once i switched off the phone with the charger plugged in the light next to the port turned on! But it did not charge! I kept it like this for an hour or so but it did not charge! But if i unplug it and put it back in when it is off... It switches on but does not charge! Right now the battery is completely drained and is not accepting any charge..
I believe this is because of some current overload in the front ports of the desktop. I tried to plug in my PSP to it through the same ports and it too shut down but is still functioning...
I am running Ultimate ICS 1.0

If you dare to you could try supplying the voltage directly to the battery contacts.
Grab an old USB Cable - get rid of the plug that doesn't fit in your charger and stuff the red (+) and black (-) wire in between the battery and the connector.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

[Q] Charging issues

Something is wrong with my Nexus One.
There is no way it will charge if the phone is left on. It will only charge if:
-I turn the phone off.
-If I have left the charger plugged in then I must remove it and plug it back in. If I turn the phone off and plug it in to the charger that was already plugged in then it will not charged. The charger must be removed from the wall and then re-plugged back in.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Have you tried a different charger? How about plugging it into your computer?
When it started with my first charger I went and bought another. Same thing.

CSquid cable

There is a very nice cable out there called a CSquid. They make one for the Streak.
I took an external battery pack which has 2 USB charging ports and plugs straight into the wall on my trip to Vegas. It worked nicely when I tested it at the house prior to the trip. I used it with my Streak on the plane while the wife and I watched a movie. It came in damn handy charging both the wifes phone and mine at the sametime while drinkin way to much playin video poker at the bar.
Then I let the battery on my tablet die. I mean completely discharged dead. So I just plugged it in to the battery backup, plugged the backup into the wall outlet and NOTHING. No charge indicator, no lights on the softkeys, nothing. Tested the USB port with my phone, all was good.
So I ended up buying a USB wall/Vehicle charger at the gift shop of Harrah's for twice what it was worth. Plugged in and the Streak started charging, same stock cable I used with the battery backup charger. After that I was able to use my Streak with the battery backup on the plane ride back home with no problems.
Which lead me to the CSquid cable. It's designed to function off of low powered USB ports. Some device out there, ours included, the Galaxy Tab and the iPads as well, will not charge from a depleted battery state off of some USB ports. This includes PC's if they enter into a low power state. Some ports on laptops for example, my HP has 2 ports that are fully powerd and 2 that are not. A keyboard or a mouse works fine, but try a 3G modem and it detects it, but won't function. Flip the same modem to a port on the other side and it works like magic. What I'm saying is this problem is device specific.
So I recreated the scenario and tested same.
I ran a movie on my Streak until it shut itself off. I tried powering up and it wouldn't go. I plugged my battery backup into the wall, grabbed the stock Streak cable and cabled them up. No charge indicator on the Streak. The battery was dead, dead. Reconnected it twice and the same result.
I then repeated the process with the CSquid cable. I immediately recieved a charge light. This was a good sign. I tried to power it up and it wouldn't go. So I went out to the garage and had a smoke. Came back in about 10 mins later, hit the power button and the Streak booted up. All was right with the world.
If you're in the market for another cable you want this one.
I ordered the cable off Amazon for $20 and some change for delivery. It showed up USPS in 3 days.
This is their site: agreenc.com
Oddly they don't list the Streak on their site, at least yet. But this cable does exist for the Streak.
Like I said I got mine off Amazon. Just search them for Dell Streak CSquid and it'll pop right up
Dear elodahl,
I'm not sure whether I understood you totally correct but you seem to have the problem when you try to charge your streak from you battery backup when this last one is plugged into the wall, am I correct? Was the battery backup discharged and hence you plugged it into the wall? If so, it could be possible that the energy taken from the wall is completely dedicated to charge the battery of your backup device and it is not drained outside to charge the streak. This could explain why after the cigarette the streak started to charge: the internal battery of the backup thing was charged enough to start draining energy to the streak.
Could be this correct?
On the other hand, do you know if this cable has the "on the go" pin enabled? I mean, using a female-female usb adaptor, have you ever tried to plug an external usb device or keyboard to the streak through it? At the moment and to my knowledge, non of the existing cables for the streak can do something like that, one has to open the cable and soldier together a couple of pins to make this possible.
Many thanks
I haven't tried using the cable with a gender bender and use it as a pass though. I don't have a need so I never screwed with it.
This isn't a problem to be solved. This is a solution to a problem that exists.
The battery backup was fully charged. The Streak was fully discharged, which is a big part of it. If you end up with the Streak fully discharged you can't get it to power up off of say a battery backup or (some/most) PC USB ports. You won't even get the red LED charging indicator to light. Again this is with a fully discharged battery on the Streak.
Basiclly what the cable does when you flip the switch on it from it's standard data cable position over to the power postion is send voltage down an additional pin. Voltage on this pin makes your USB power source appear as a AC power source. This allows the system to boot, and charge, even with the same exact USB power source that did not work prior to you sliding the switch on the cable.
This is similar to what Motorola did a few years ago with their USB charges. I carried Motorola Q for a couple years which is were I ran into the issue. Yes The device had a mini-USB connection. Yes it could charge off of that connection. But it could only charge if you used Motorola's mini-USB charger. Only a select few 3rd party mini-usb chargers would work, most wouldn't. On the other hand if you could charge a Motorola off of a charger that charger would charge any other mini-usb device known to man.
I found the pinouts for Motorola's charges on some site which showed that they were using the "spare" pin. There is a open pin in the USB spec. which an OEM can use to do whatever they like.
You can charge a Streak off of any USB power source unless you completely discharge it. If you completely discharge it you need an AC power source, or something that looks like an AC power source to the Streak. Which is were this cable comes in.

phone is dead and wont charge...

For some reason after a couple days of using the iphone wall plug to charge my phone, my phone will no longer charge any more.
When charging with the iphone wall plug it would take forever to charge and im wondering if this may have damaged the battery.
a couple of nights ago when i had my phone on the iphone charger over night I woke up to my phone still being on 20%, the same as when i plugged it in.
since then the battery has been acting very weird and i can't even get it to charge over 20%
right now the orange light does not even blink when i plug in my phone and i have not been able to turn it on since yesterday morning
i have the phone under warranty but i have viper rom running on my phone\\\\How can I get my phone back under warranty if it wont turn on?
Dont have a PC, just my macbook

I don't get it correctly.. did you also try some different connection cables? And with iPhone charger what do you exactly mean... can you send a photo?
If you send it in they'll most likely throw it away and give you a new phone if they are not able to turn it on. Replacing the battery costs way too much for them. But this information describes just a probability.. and that's useless..
He used the wall plug that came with his iPhone. Its also rated at 5V 1000mA output.
It should work just fine.
What i would reccomend is using a different data cable and wall plug. If you dont have one try to borrow one or go into a store.
Its possible that the data cable and / or the wall plug your using is bad.
Those are easy to rule out. If you do get different cable and wall plug and still have a problem then you have ruled out those and its your phone.
Till you do this it is a phone, cable, or wall plug issue.

[Q] HTC One Will Not Charge

My HTC One had a full discharge a couple days ago. When I got home to plug it in, it showed a blinking red LED and the battery charging animation, but didn't charge at all over a full day. I tried rebooting while still plugged in to the wall charger, which took me to the OS. From the OS I could do anything -- text, call, use Chrome, etc -- but the battery symbol had an exclamation point and the LED was still blinking red. As soon as I took it off the charger, it turned off.
I have tried Power + Volume Down, Power + Volume Up + Volume Down, and the bright light methods.
I was able to restore the phone to a previous backup from TWRP while plugged in, but the problem continues.
Any suggestions?

Try connecting the phone to your computer's USB port. If it charges there, then your charger is bad. You can check to see if is charging by going to Settings -> Power on the phone. If you are using the cable from your charger to connect to the computer and it isn't charging then try another cable. It that works, it may just be the cable that is bad and the rest of the charger is OK.

I have tried multiple cables, including the HTC stock cable and charger. When I plugged the phone into my computer, it did not show the blinking red LED and did not power up. The phone was basically unresponsive. I assume this is from lower amperage from the laptop's USB ports, but could be wrong. The laptop was also plugged into its charger at the time.

The battery is severely discharged. Since, it will not charge via the charger or the computer it looks to be a phone hardware issue. You probably need to take it back to your dealer for servicing. Before you do that, give the connection to the laptop one more go except leave it on the for about an hour or two undisturbed. When batteries are severely discharged, it takes a while for it to recharge enough to give any indication of life.
I ended up sending the phone to HTC. I had modified the kernel and OS, but figured it was worth a shot since the phone was dead and it was still under warranty.
They told me it was out of warranty due to liquid damage. I have no idea how it may have been liquid damaged, but oh well. I wasn't going to pay the $200 to replace the motherboard so I asked them to send the phone back to me.
I received the phone last week and plugged it in. I wanted to make sure I could repeat the symptoms and that HTC hadn't further messed up the phone before I took it to a local repair shop. But what happened when I plugged it in? It came to life and began charging as normal. Either a generous HTC tech fixed my phone for free or the phone needed some interior jostling to get circuits back to normal.
Whatever the situation, my phone has been good as new with all the data just as I left it. For a full week, I've had no problems charging.

[Q] USB Not Working..fried?

So I got home today and plugged in my phone to my wall charger and noticed no charging light or no indication on the screen the phone was charging. I tried plugging it into my computer and got the same thing, no response from it. I tried it in my car charger and the same thing. Now I know it was working earlier today because it had it plugged into my car charger and it was charging.
I did smell like a burnt smell after I pulled the usb cable out from the phone. Could it usb connector be fried? Anyone else have this problem?
I'm not sure if AT&T will cover it. Now I can't get it back to stock because I don't have the files on my phone and soon I'll have no battery left.
