[Q] Backed up modem - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im going to try using custom roms again but I want to make sure i still have the same modem/baseband. I backed up my modem using the zip on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27640614&postcount=102 but I don't know what to do with it. Do I just flash the zip?
Here is the backup it gave me http://www.mediafire.com/?c95cf7kqdzu66ay

If that doesn't work is there a way to extract my modem?

Your first question is answered at the begining of the post where you got the flashable zip to EXTRACT YOUR MODEM (so I guess this also answers your second question)
Next time just read.

Nevermind

KP6 Modem
Hi folks,
originally i wanted to post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289830
but I don't have the permissions yet, as I was only reading for the last months.
So please move my post there.
Anyway, Modem KP6 for Galaxy Ace can be found here:
Modem_S5830_KP6.zip
Couldn't upload it directly, as it's bigger than 8MB.
Thanks!

Problem with return

I'm having to return my Galaxy S for a replacement, however before i realised there was a hardware issue, i flashed it.
Since i'm in Australia, on Optus, there isn't a leaked DTJF3 image. So i can't just flash back to the original.
Is there a way using busybox, or an update.zip (I create and sign update.zips, Have done a little) to update the model numbers to at least look like i haven't been messing with it. Best to be safe rather than have them not honor the warranty because of a flashed update.
I ask in here as this is where the people with an intimate knowledge of the underlying code hang out.

Australian Stock Rom (Dump) : ............
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT A DEVELOPER, PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS FILE.
http://rapidshare.com/files/406741229/dump.tar !!!!
not my work but taken from this forum, so mayb try a search before posting
So I guess the first silly question would be.....
how to separate out the CSC, Phone & PDA tar files from the Dump?
Or is there a way to use Odin to flash the dump.tar?
(just thought I'd ask the question before the OP does )

Ok, so i was just looking at Odin, and there is a place where you can upload the dump.tar file. Is it really that simple - select the dump.tar downloaded from this thread, keep all other PDA/CSC/Modem spots empty, maybe select re-partition then flash??

Hey mate, caught in a similar situation here. The dump is not available now, do you mind uploading to another location? I know many other users waiting for this as well.
All the best with your flashing.
In the end until there is a leaked copy of the rom,we won't be able to flash it.we can customize with update.zip however we can't turn the dump into a rom.
The dump will contain the optus parts of the rom.but not the rom itself. I just figured someone may be able to help me fool the about screen into showing the wrong rom version.
At some point nandroid might get running, then we can do some interesting stuff until then, we just wait.
That's how I understand it

During inspection of your handset, the firmware check is done by the supplied tools to Optus, this will have no effect even if you change the About section on the Android OS, voiding your warranty further. I would rather advise you to wait for a month or so until 2.2 update comes up on Optus, then you can update the firmware via recovery.

the dump has a different format, it doesnt have a radio and csc file ( though you dont need it ) but you still need samsung.pit file i.e the bootloader file .. but be careful while doing that.

same here looking for SC-I800 tar file to flash my tab back .....
Did either of you ever locate a factory image for an SCH-I800? I am looking for one also.
me too having the same problem :'(
is there any way to flash the stock rom?
I found a walkthrough here on XDA that gives a walk thru to download the Stock rooted images of EC02, and the VOODOO zImage for VZW SCH-I800.
Hopefully this may help you guys out.

I just used the process from the external guide to sucessfully reflash to stock and then add Custom recovery to my tab after an "incident" cause me to lose all gapps on the tab.
Let me know how it goes.
Edit: I realize this is in the wrong section but I figured they would recheck their thread for an answer so I posted a possible solution for them here anyway rather than make a new thread in the proper section.
Edit2: I found the same guide on XDA so edited my post to make that the main referral link, here is the external one for sake of file mirroring:

You are wrong here, this is i9000-section.

[Q] Few questions about ODIN and other

Hi all,
I am noob here and wanted to ask few questions that will help me get all this worked out... and yes, I did search before creating this thread and still didn't find any answers...
odin:
1. what is the main difference between all the odin versions?
2. why would someone delete his efs folder?
3. what is flash lock and why do we need it?
4. is the efs clear option simply deletes the efs folder (like manually deleting it)?
5. what is the dump file and why do we need it?
6. what is the phone bootloader update? is it only for when using bootloaders?
7. what is the f. reset time and why do we need it?
other:
1. what exactly is a csc file? I didn't quite understand it from the guide...
2. can I use a csc file from froyo on gb?
3. can I use a csc file from some rom on a different rom? (same as question 1?)
4. is a zImage ONLY a kernel file? or can it contain other stuff?
Sorry about all the questions... but they are really important for me...
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Hi,
I'm also interesting regarding csc. hope that we'll get answers
Try looking in dev for ezbase, and with that comes ezodin that is far less intimidating
Insanity cm 012/glitch
I know ezbase but I still need to know what I asked...
Thank you though
Thread is now on page 3... please help
trying my best to answer
the answer might be wrong, but to my knowledge it should be correct

odin:
1. what is the main difference between all the odin versions?
not so sure, but the difference is not much/impt afaik.
2. why would someone delete his efs folder?
DONT delete efs folder it contain essential and impt information about your phone such as imei. it is also recommended to backup a copy of your efs folder to your computer before any flashing
3. what is flash lock and why do we need it?
no idea
4. is the efs clear option simply deletes the efs folder (like manually deleting it)?
not sure, but you shouldnt be deleting your efs folder as explained
5. what is the dump file and why do we need it?
you dont need it, if im not wrong should be a copy of the rom used by developers
6. what is the phone bootloader update? is it only for when using bootloaders?
it is for updating froyo bootloaders to gingerbread bootloaders, used only when you upgrade from a froyo rom to gingerbread rom
7. what is the f. reset time and why do we need it?
other:
1. what exactly is a csc file? I didn't quite understand it from the guide...
contains information and apps about your carrier. it is the carrier customization to the rom. i think it also contain the apns needed from the carrier.
2. can I use a csc file from froyo on gb?
yes
3. can I use a csc file from some rom on a different rom? (same as question 1?)
yes
4. is a zImage ONLY a kernel file? or can it contain other stuff?
kernel only

Stock roms without bootloader? Is it possible?

Hey guys. I just came from Galaxy 3 to Galaxy S - i really like it Now I searched forum but couldnt find answer. Anyways on G3 some people made stock roms without bootloader so it would be 100% safe to flash with no risk of bootloop. Now i wanted to ask can we do that with our phone too. I downloaded some firmware from samsung updats and when i unpacked it there were Sbl and boot file, and somewhere i read that these are boot files. So short question, can i delete these files and make .tar with rest files and to flash?
Also if its possible, do I lose anything if i remove bootloaders? Thanks for answer!

[Q] I have a little doubt

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to find any specific answer in forums and guides.
I have a SGS GT-i9000t with CM10. I want to flash the stock rom on it, with odin v1.85 (to get the efs folder back, got problems with the imei), so I downloaded the rom from sammmobile. There's only one file, a .tar, I know you just have to put it on PDA, but my question is this:
do I need the pit file?
(I know in most cases is not necessary, but I'm coming from CM10 and I found some guides that said CM ****s up the partitions and whatnot)
