I updated the ROM to the most recent ICS leak and inserted my SIM card. When in either GSM or Global mode, the phone will respond with "This SIM card is from an unknown source." Is there any way to fix this? I'm on AT&T in the US.

This phone will not work on US GSM frequencies, only abroad.

I thought it was compatible with US GSM frequencies since its a quad-band radio. This website refers to the Radiocomm hack to use AT&T (see Android Community's article "Motorola Droid 4, Razr, and Bionic modded for AT&T and T-Mobile") and the resource on Droid-Forums implies that the Radiocomm hack isn't even necessary after upgrading to ICS ("Finally! GSM Droid 4 Works!"). Is there something I'm missing?
edit: I can't post links, so woops! You'll have to search for those things instead I guess.

I know what you talk about.
GSM is unlocked in ICS for abroad GSM carriers, but it's not working for US GSM. For US GSM you still need to go and use radiocomm patch.

I used Radiocomm to check my NV value and it matches what the patch would be setting. I'm still not able to use my AT&T SIM. Has anyone encountered this before?

Verizon is obviously blocking access to US GSM networks. This has been reported previously on the ICS leaks. You are out of luck for now unless someone figures out how to patch this.
But I got the same message with my australian sim...
I rooted, installed safestrap and then CM9 with the setting "telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice" set to "0" in the build.prop. After that I had much better GSM-reception and the message didn't show up anymore.
In build.prop there is the following string: ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc. Could that be the limiting factor? Maybe try change to 0?
That only affects sending of SMSs. If you're not in the US, and not using Verizon's SIM, yes you should set it to 0.
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk
I haven't had any luck from modifying the build.prop file. Running logcat -b radio shows me that CDMA stuff is going on when I'm in CDMA mode (whodathunkit) and GSM is happening when I'm in GSM mode. Is there a guide on how to interface with the radio directly (or, well, through linux or adb) so that I can figure out what the radio is picking up? It might not be seeing the AT&T signal at all. If only I could see what AT+COPS=? returns.
Could someone post their build.prop for the latest leak? Mine was accidentally saved while deleting some line. I don't want to reboot the device for fear of some kind of mishap. If you like outside the US and have your GSM edits included, that would be greatly appreciated

Hi mate. Find"build prop editor" in play store, install and run the app and search for the string you want to change. Rest is easy.

Just got my Droid 4 and try to use it with GSM in Germany. I'm on the .212 leak.
However, I have no HSPA/UMTS reception. Not even EDGE. Only GPRS works.
I tried out everything, set it to WCDMA preferred, tried all the build.prop tweaks, nothing helped.
Tried out a different SIM, and I'm sure my APN is set up correctly.
It is not related to my region, my Droid 3 works perfectly here.
I think I have a hardware reception issue, but still hope it is just a configuration.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

I'm not fully sure if the Droid4 has world bands in place. In the "Set GSM/UMTS band" I see only USA Band listed.
Also, do you have your APN setup correctly? Make sure the APN authentication is set properly, that's one of the bigger bugs out there with the new builds. Also, have you tried using a custom ROM?
The Droid 4 for sure has the proper bands for UMTS/HSDPA in Europe. Has to be an APN thing. Hopefully somebody else can shed some light on this, as I am planning to use my Droid 4 in Germany as well in the coming months. I know there is someone from Holland on this forum that has no problem using his Droid 4 there (he is also on one of the latest ICS leaks).
Does the foreign SIM card initiate some type of APN configuration when inserted?
As I said I'm really sure APN is correct, I doublecheckt it a couple of times. I'm also sure it is not an APN problem because data IS working, but only with GPRS. Could try a different ROM, but I doubt it will help, I had this issue both with stock Gingerbread and leaked ICS.
Were you able to get this figured out?
i have also problem to get data, it connects to network but there is no data. :// have tried everything with apn and network settting but no chance..
p.s.: i am on .212 leak
So did something maybe change from ICS build 211 to build 212? Did you guys have any problems on the previous leaks?
i dont know if it works actually with 211.. does anyone know if i downgrade to .211 leak from 212

Sure. Over at droidforums, there is a tutorial on how to do it. You have to fastboot GB 19 first, then use the unstick tool with the 211 Kernel, followed by flashing of the 211 ICS leak. I have been doing this every single time going from one leak to the next.

Downgrading within the ICS leaks works the same way as upgrading as long as you have the proper leak and kernel.
Do any of you Canadian forum members have difficulty with Data on the latest ICS leaks?
i can confirm that data on .213 leak doesnt work also in germany. i will try .211 later...
could someone send me the build.prop(.211) for compare before i downgrade..

Hi,
I flashed my droid 3 with the current CM10.1 ROM and it's working... Except for the SIM card.
It's plain not recognizing the sim. No calls, no SMS, no data.
I couldn't find anywhere how to fix nor even how to debug it.
I'm pretty new to android flashing but have extensive experience as Linux sysadmin (15+ years), so any hint about how to debug it would be very welcomed.
Any hints?
( Ahh, I'm in Brazil, using GSM)
Thanks in advance,
Leon
Hi,
Try to find the library libmoto_ril.so from the stock rom at /system/lib, and replace it. You should get signal, but until now, I'm not aware of anyone that made 3g work on JB Roms with GSM networks.
Also replace the line:
ro.telephony.default_network=3
On the default build.prop it is 7 (for CDMA).
Hope this helps.

CDMA network is not working
Hi guys,
I recently purchased unlocked Motorola Droid 3 Verizon. But on this phone CDMA sim does not work, GSM working correctly. I need solution....
Hello dear friends, Ive been wondering if it's possible that I flash a XT1053 (also D.E.) firmware onto my XT1060 Verizon D.E. and it would become a XT1053 handset for use on GSM networks? Sorry in advance if my question is too silly, but I have searched much for a week now without no any clear answer. Thank you very much too pay attention to my question?
You probably can, but you would get no service since the Verizon Version es CDMA and the XT1053 Version is GSM. But I think I heard that if you edit the Build.prop lines you can probably get service. Also this shouldn't go in the Development Forum, you should move this to the Q&A Forum.

You can definitely flash foreign builds onto the XT1060 Dev Edition. I was in fact running the German build of 4.4.2 on my XT1060 because there is no bloat to mess with. I've switched to the T-Mo 4.4.2 build now so I can use faux kernel but thats beside the point. I have no problem using these builds on Verizon's network as long as I have LTE/CDMA selected as the network mode (instead of LTE/GSM).
BUT
You can only flash system, boot, and motoboot to my knowledge. I haven't flashed any of the others because I haven't wanted to take the chance and have to spend time fixing it if something goes wrong. If you know how to use fastboot to flash specific files then you're golden.
If you want to use your XT1060 on GSM networks, then flashing system, boot, and motoboot from a T-Mo or foreign build will help you in that department. The VZW firmware doesn't have a lot of options for GSM networks (network modes, APN settings etc.) but the GSM builds do.

Thank you guys!
These info are surely helpful to me. As for my case, I'm going to receive a Verizon Moto X Xt1060 from my brother, but my network in here (outside of US) is GSM. Though my brother told me Verizon Moto X is a dual network handset and it supports GSM carriers, but through searching I read that it's right that it is able to work on GSM networks but not fully, especially 4G LTE and some other value-added services. Well, the only two things I need to be clear is whether XT1060 works perfectly in voice calls, 4G LTE, sms, mms... and other GSM stuff. A friend told me that by flashing a XT1053 firmware which is original GSM, my phone would become full GSM handset, no longer Verizon or any CDMA at all.
Well, anyone else please confirm this for me? Any dear friend have been using XT1060 with identical issue as my case? Many thanks again.
can someone make a guide for flashing foreign builds on different variants will be highly appreciated :good:

You can check the bands and frequencies for SPRINT here:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_(m8)_cdma-6233.php
For the sim unlock it is up to "firewater" compatibility, since you need to S-OFF your device first.
Regarding compatibility with firewater, your question should be: How can I make sure that my device will be supported by firewater?
The answer: You cant! Its just a matter of luck for the moment.
There are alot of people who successfully S-OFF their devices with firewater, and there are also unlucky persons like me, who cant (i got 2 devices that i cannot S-OFF).
There is also a bounty thread for people which cannot S-OFF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733870
If SIM unlocking is your concern, I suggest you to buy it unlocked (yeah i know the price is higher).
For the time being there is no provider offering SIM Unlock for Sprint. Believe me, since I have a SPRINT standard M8 device which i cant SIM unlock for the moment.

Try the following on you responsibility
- You should know your SPC, you can read it with CDMA Workshop or CDMA DFS Tool.
- Install QSPT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2263391)
- enable diag mode ##3424#
- open QPST configuration, from port tab add your device diagnostics port.
- from start clients tab choose service programming then ok & click on read from phone.
- on system tab choose automatic for roam preferences.
- on UMTS System tab choose any for pref service domain & any band (last bottom right) for proffered band.
- click write to phone, then your device should work on GSM mode with modified HTCOMADM_SPCS.apk.

How about reboot phone don't touch anything in mobile network options and go directly to phone info with the 4 digit code *#*#4636#*#* go phone information and change the preferred network type just don't touch anything in the mobile network settings and see if that works.
