Focus S unlock not working - Samsung Focus S

After updating to 8773.98 the website windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreaker does not work anymore. after hitting the button to unlock and restarting the phone, the side loaded apps previously installed before the update do not work anymore: This application has been revoked by Microsoft.
Any ideas on this issue and how to fix it?

Its the tango update that breaks dev and interop unlock, the samsung update then stops you from being able to unlock it
if you have a backup of your phone before you flashed the LE2 samsung update then you will need to revert to that,
apply the unlock,
then apply the tango unlock update to make sure it doesnt relock again,
Now if ive got this straight, you then backup at this point,
apply samsung update
then you can enjoy the benifits of the update as well as keeping dev and interop unlock. when you need to update again you will need to revert to your previous backup BEFORE you did the samsung LE2 update.
Its strongly worth while you copying the backup files to a seperate folder so you can keep track of backups you make,

RE:
Sorry, I do not have a backup.
Any other solutions?
If there is any update on previous tools that could work now with already updated focus S devices please list the idea here. Thanks.

Did you use zune to update or cab sender?
zune makes a backup, settings>update>restore
cab sender you would have had to make a backup
if you don't have a backup then you are out of luck. there is no way at the moment to restore interop unlock and dev unlock would need to be via an app hub account.
in short, the tool needed to unlock the device is no longer functional after the Samsung LE2 update, if you did backup the device you could restore it, but if you didn't your out of luck!

thereby also occur in samsung focus s, well just have zune back me up before I returned, then I use seveneighter became well again, of course locked the device again, here's my OS version 7.10.8858.136 the top right after I seveneighter updates, I'm disappointed I did mind the interop unlock tricks, work over again focus s unlocked running 7.8

We should be anyway but if you are still using older versions then updating rather than removing and re installing fixes the problem on some of the older versions
Sent from my Arc using xda app-developers app

though I repent my update to 7.8 speed battery drain even on standby.mode maybe because of HAVING tweaks on 7.8 im so disappointed i think 7.5 is better than 7.8 inshort 7.8 kills my battery without using wifi or internet, what is the purpose of eco apps?killing un needed processes?or killing battery?anyway thanks for the apps i think the main issue here is my battery not the apps or being updated to 7.8,but since my phone running 7.5 battery was good,i don't know what really kills my battery

[Root] Z4Root

We've heard that you can root the LG Optimus 2X with Z4Root. Is it permanent or temporary?
No supporting evidence just yet, but rooting this phone should be a piece of cake.
I used Z4root on two samples of the 2X, no issues what so ever. These were however pre-release roms, but I couldn't imagine any differences from the final release.
And yes, it's permanent. I had some app testing to do and tried Z4root just for fun and it worked like a charm.
//Dave
Cool. I have already ordered one. Is the root reversible? E.g. can one root an unroot as if nothing happened?
I'm holding the 2x in my hand right now and unrooted it. (didn't try adb on it for confirmation but tried clocksync, which refused access (superuser has disappeared as well). Rerooting at the moment.
Once again this is a pre relase rom so I can't guarantee that the final ROM will have the same functionality.

Thanks. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
Good news dave. My understanding is that the main issues with the Optimus 2x so far have been regarding the massive amount of bloat apps as well as some instability in day to day operations (browser and messaging seems to crash from time to time).
Are you experiencing these? Would you be able to remove some of the bloat apps and see if it breaks anything in the LG rom?
UHOH!

I'll take a look at it, I've got an early version of the 2x which I'll try to push the new system dump to. I've rooted it and while using adb shell it looks like I've bricked it! uhoh!
Bricking a pre-production version of the best phone on the planet isn't quite what I wanted to do! I'm stuck in a boot loop and I manage to get a limited connection when booting it into the bootloader. However, probably because of pre-production status, the bootloader will let me go up and down using the volume keys, but it won't let me select any of the options!
When in the bootloader, I do have some type of recognized connection via the PC. DDMS recognizes the phone, ADB doesn't let me access it.
I'll chill on doing anything to the "good" phone for now (hope you understand)... but if I get the bricked one started, I'm back in the game .
Feel free giving me tips or trix to get it up and running.

Do you have a preproduction model like Dave or a sales sample?
On mine Z4root simply quits...after saying "Aquiring root shell" ... will try an other version, hope that will work...
Do you have a temporary root? After z4root locks? I tried with a later rom and got the same issue. However after accessing it with ADB shell it clearly has root "#" is showing and I have permissions I otherwise wouldn't have. However it seems like the root is temporary. Weird thing... I'll continue hunting for alternative solutions.
BTW, my other X2 may rest in peace. After a friend helping me out we managed to get the phone into fastboot, the kernel must have been intact, the system was completely wiped. Pushed the system through ADB and rebooted. Now we can't get it into fastboot at all... RIP ;(

Wow, sorry to hear your loss...sad story.
Anyway, I heard that it is possible to root 2.2.1 devices with Super One Click, but I can't get my Optimus 2x connected to adb, somehow Windows 7 doesn't wanna install the downloaded Google USB Drivers...
The reason Z4root doesn't work on firmwares 2.2< is that the exploit it uses to gain root rights has been fixed in those newer versions

After update OTA to version LS670ZVC, machine is unable to be rooted at this time. I am sure someone is working on it.
I returned this previously rooted phone Saturday feb 12 for replacement due to HW fault. Got new phone home and saw the phone was auto-updating to the LS670ZVC version. Which kept me from using Zroot as I did in the past. Drat! Tried many tricks found on other android forums to try and root.
The skinny of it is, if this update was applied OTA, we are SOL for now. If you updated using LG software via computer, you can root it still. If you haven't updated from version 9, don't do it until an exploit is released.
I have another thread going on this same issue. I have tried using superoneclick. Even though everything looked ok it didn't make a difference. Did a root checker it said busybox was ok and I know that SU is ok. Just looks like they "fixed" the exploit for now...

Mmmm, sad about the old one, however I got my second device so I'll unroot my it and then try the SuperOneClick option.. I'll let you know. Once again this is a sample but the rom is dated from 2010-12-14 so it must be quite close to production ROMs.

HTC One boom sound after root

Hello all...
I have a rogers htc one.. I unlocked the boot loaded n then rooted it.. However after the root I've notice that the volume on the speakers and if I were to plug in earphones (tried different ones) is not what it used to be before rooting.
If volume is set half way it is not as loud as it used to be..
I've tried the stock music play... Then I installed other players and still the same issue..
Maybe I've gotten used to the boom sound that I find it normal that it doesn't seem xtra ordinary anymore?
Has anyone had this issue?
Also doing the root.. I've notice that I don't have access to the calculator app in the app drawer.. Even though the I have access to the calculator widget...
Any help would be great and I thank you all in advance...

You probably updated the phone in the meantime to the latest OTA, because HTC decided to lower speakers volume in last update, to prevent them from being damaged, but they said also that tuning the right volume is still a work in progress and it will change in upcoming updates

Install it normally if you are still on stock, even if you are rooted I think you can still install official otas (someone correct me if I'm wrong please), but I'm not sure so search before doing anything, and for the updates, I believe there was many updates since the version shipped with the device, so maybe you've already done one of those updates and now it's simply showing a new one?
what's your current software version?

[Q] Bloatware Apps keep reappearing after crash

Hey guys,
I have been trying to uninstall all the bloatware from my HTC Butterfly S after unlocking the bootloader and rooting it. However, sometimes randomly while uninstalling the bloatware (like the Korean keyboard) with titanium backup, the device will crash and restart itself, and previously uninstalled apps would appear back again.
For example, i uninstalled 7digital, Google Korean Keyboard, HTC Sense Wechat (in that order) then the device would crash while uninstalling HTC Sense Wechat. After it booted up again, i found that my default keyboard would change back to HTC's own keyboard and that 7digital, Google Korean Keyboard and Wechat would all be found installed again.
Anyone else experiencing the same problems?
Edit : okay so restarting the phone without it crashing does the same things too..all the bloat apps came back :/
Edit2 : oh ya im using stock rom by the way.
I also tried to uninstall HTC Sense Webchat and had the same issues. I think this program is somehow connected either with Blinkfeed or integrated in the system, so you can't delete it from rom.
I unninstaled all the bloatware from my HTC One X once I rooted it. But then, I could not install OTA updates anymore. I had to get an old backup from my Nandroid, restore all the bloat just to be able to install the update. Was really annoying.
Now, I moved to one Butterfly S. This time, I plan to root and freeze all the bloat with Titanium Backup. Once and update is released, I can just go there and undo the freeze.
Did you tried freezing the apps you don´t want? Maybe it can prevent the crashing.

The system partition seems to be write-protected somehow. Any changes you make from within a running system are lost on reboot, even though you remount /system as read-write. In order to circumvent this, you can write down a list of APKs you want to remove, reboot into recovery and do it from there – in that case the changes are permanent.

I have certain doubts as to whether an OTA will work on any rooted Butterfly S if one gets released eventually. Butterfly S suffers from the same problem as One, i.e. certain apps come preinstalled in /data (see this thread for a list of those that were in /data/preload on mine) and the OTA update script checks their integrity as well, but they are wiped in the process of unlocking the bootloader.
Now, obviously, I made a backup of those apps, but that may not be enough, it's perfectly possible there were other things in /data as well and there's not really a way to find out unless HTC releases a RUU, in which case we can look into its contents.

No, that's most certainly not what I'm saying. All I'm saying is that if you unlock your bootloader, any OTA upgrades might not work because some files from the original ROM are lost in the process. This is just unfounded speculation based on the fact that this was true for the One and the Butterfly S shows the same symptoms. Nevertheless, we have yet to see whether this is true or not since HTC haven't released any OTAs for the Butterfly S yet.
If you don't need root or custom recovery, feel free not to unlock your bootloader and stick to the vanilla stock ROM. Some of us need root, which means we did unlock our bootloader and are willing to bear the consequences.
I don't see any reason why not having a S-OFF exploit would mean that it's not worth unlocking. Just unlocking the bootloader via HTCdev is perfectly sufficient to install a custom recovery or ROM, from what I gather around the interwebs, custom kernels should be all right as well. If you want to argue that you need a custom splash screen then I'm willing to argue that you don't.
Anyway, this entire discussion is way off-topic already so I'll stop here.
This is an interesting discussion, although i'm away from my turf, as i got an HTC One - on second thought, it isn't so different from the Butterfly S. I was looking for a way to get rid of the bloatware and keep stock Sense UI. The problem, as has been discussed in the replies above - there is a "bug" when unlocking the bootloader from htcdev that causes some data to be wiped out. From what i've read all several similar cases, you will not be able to update via OTA. Basically, if you want to go back to stock with OTA support, you'll need to download a stock rom matching your device's region and restore that onto your device. I personally don't think it's worth it, as HTC will be releasing 4.3 soon (by the end of this month, according to leaks).
However, i was hoping to find an app (much like what already exists for the Galaxy S4) that would easily disable or block bloatware apps, without uninstalling them (that wouldn't be possible without rooting anyway). I'm really hoping that such an app exists for the One or Butterfly S, as i've been able to manually disable apps running in memory through Settings > Apps > All and i've noticed significant improvements, especially in the AnTuTu benchmarks. An automated way of doing that would have been really awesome.

Unable to install new update from Sony

I have an update trying to install itself, but it fails in all ways, even when trying from the PC software. It doesn't say why it fails, but it may be because I'm unlocked or rooted. Also I can't seem to block checking for updates, it comes back time and time again, and has during the last two weeks. Is there a way to kill this stuff?

Thanks! I see. I can understand the rooted part, but unlocked? That's just dumb, to stop upgrades from an unlocked phone. So I used Titanium Backup to freeze it, and we'll see if that helps.

Update from 6.5

When I first got this Blu R1 HD Prime version I was able to remove the ads and such by using the SP tool and directions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/development/blu-r1-hd-remove-amazon-ads-ota-updates-t3427303. It is currently on 6.5. I have never updated it since then because I did not want to deal with ads again. Now I am having issues with it not wanting to connect to any mobile data (wifi is fine though and the sim card works in another phone) I figured an update might not hurt things. So with all that said, what is the best way to get the phone updated without bringing the ads back and not losing any data/apps?

Not knowing what is causing the data connection problems, it is not positive making update will help, but worth a shot.
I have posted updates that can be installed without being forced back into the ads system.
Will need to install TWRP recovery to install them.
Rooting the system is not needed to remove ads with twrp installed, if you do not want to have room rooted.
Since you are on 6.5 and not 6.6 you can use spft to flash recovery, or you can also use the dirty-cow method "tool" to unlock bootloader and then install recovery with fastboot(built into the tool )
If you don't have recovery then my opinion is use this to get recovery installed
https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/unlock-tool-t3561333
Then use twrp to install one of these ROMs (recommend v21)

could just be an APN setting needs set to your carrier number/ settings.
Rebooting about a dozen times seems to have fixed it. I double checked the APN and everything but nothing worked. It just started working again. However I do still want to update it just to make sure it has more recent bug fixes. Thanks all.
