Just purchased Touchstone charger and my touchpad says charging but not charging. - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The battery icon shows it's charging and in battery settings it also says charging but the actual percentage does not go up. It actually loses charge. Currently using CM9 nightlies. Btw I also tried it in Web OS...same result.
Anyone know why?

Could it be hardware problem?
As a last resort, uninstall Android (Acmeunistaller), then dr back to stock WebOS, and if your TP is still under warranty, call HP.
Could be the problem is the touchstone itself. If you can charge ok with the wall charger, then the chances are that the touchstone is to blame.

O you have the touchpad in an HP case? With the case on the touchpad placement on the touchstone is critical. Even without a case, you might have to move the touchpad around a bit to hit the "sweet spot" where it will charge properly.

I have been using a TouchStone since December. I have also had the HP case since then. I never have issues. The placement area is no stricter for me with the case vs no case.
I have never seen it register it was charging without actually charging. It worked for me on CM7, webOS and CM9. If you don't get the placement right, it won't say its charging, at least not for me.
One thing you may want to check is the USB power adapter you are using. The included adapter has a 2000 mA output. I have seen my TouchPad "charge" while losing battery when plugged into a computer or cigarette lighter and only getting 500 mA, CM9 won't show an error, but webOS does. It pops up that you aren't using the right charger or something.
Sent from my Galaxy S II

I take it out of the case to charge. I have noticed there is a sweet spot. I am running CM9 and there is a lightning bolt inside battery icon showing its charging plus in battery settings says its charging. But still not gaining charge. The clock display does pop up when on the touchstone. I don't know if touchstone is faulty(was new in sealed box) or if there is a setting or a bug I am missing on the touchpad?

"It just works"
There is no setting or tricks. My toddler has it down, you just put it on there, and it charges. HP made a point to mention the official HP case is designed to not interfere with the TS, and mine works fine. That is the reason I didn't buy a different case.
I would try to return/exchange the TouchStone if you can. If a new one doesn't work, then its the part inside your TouchPad, that is unlikely, but in that case contact HP. They don't advance replace anymore, you would have to send it in for repair.
Sent from my Galaxy S II

Mine, inside the case, has never given me any problems. It is typically charging off a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop and doesn't have issues. *Occasionally* it will constantly do the perkup perkup perkup docking sound (like it's stuck consantly docking). I just take it off the charger and put it back. I keep it on full time and it doesn't lose charge and will gain charge if below 100% I just got my father one and I'll know fairly soon if he will be able to keep it plugged in and on with a touchstone and not lose charge.

Not all cases are created equal. The distance the TP is from the TS is important. Thus a thin case might not cause problems where a thicker one would. Personally, I'm not very comfortable with a thin case. My old fingers tend to get clumsy.

It may be that if the battery is very low, the TS is not able to run the TP and charge the battery at the same time. Have you tried turning the TP off and then putting on the TP? If you do, it should turn the TP on. When it does, use the volume control to choose the "Shutdown" option on the boot menu. Let it charge for a few hours and check if TP took the charge.

[Q] Screen problem

The touch control on my nook is out of control. It came so sudden, nothing seems to trigger it. Is it a hardware problem or software problem? I don't want to return it as I'm in Korea now...
CWR flashed NF 0.6.7, just bought a day ago.
This happens when my NC is plugged in with the charger that came with it. I'm trying to get a replacement from B&N. Works fine with the charger that came with my Droid and Droid X. Being an Android smartphone user prior to the NC, I know that lots of people had this problem on their Android smartphones when they used cheap, generic third-party microUSB cables.
Or clean your screen. Lots of people are reporting funky screen behavior due to dirty screens.
Unplug it and turn down the brightness amf see how it goes.

cleaning the screen seems helps, but it is so annoying if happens on the street... I can't always bring my microfiber cloth with me.
Why are you playing with this in the street?
Are you using a screen protector? If not it.should help.

if you use a non B&N charger, the NC won't register that it's charging, but it actually is. you can watch the battery percentage go up as time passes. it just charges more slowly.
What eyecrispy said.
I don't know how much juice the backflip's charger carries. My Droid and DX chargers carry lots of juice; lesser chargers can't keep up with their usage. Also, I've heard that the NC's OEM charger has two extra pins that let it fast charge. So, another cable may charge more slowly in comparison. I think the extra pins are also what causes the issue that eyecrispy described with the NC showing that it's charging only with the OEM charger. By the way, I think that only happens with the stock Nook software (rooted or not). With Nookie Froyo on internal memory, it shows charging with both the OEM and my DX's chargers.
I've noticed that battery meter being all over the place on this thing. Sometimes it doesn't reach 100% (stays at 99%). Sometimes after I've had it plugged in for a while the battery meter looks like it hasn't gained any additional charge, but a minute later it updates.

Wireless Charging with the EXTENDED Battery - Solved

If you're impatient like me, here's a DIY $13 mod I did to make the extended battery wireless charging enabled. Presumably works on all charging mats as the whole idea behind Qi is a universal standard.
http://uselesspuzzles.blogspot.com/2011/09/droid-bionic-optimizations-extended-bat.html
Photos and videos at the bottom of the post.
Here's the main video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR7egtQl-Zg
I moved the coil a little bit so the connection was more secure after the video. Works without issue.
I bought like 5 touchstones so I can have one in my home office, office office, bedroom, living room, etc.
Do you know if the touchstone works with the VZW inductive charging back for the standard battery?

honestly i havent really read into the different technologies used... so no idea
my guess is if it did work it would probably not be as good an experience as the magnets are probably not placed in the same alignment (so the phone won't know exactly where to attach giving a sub-optimal placement)
Wow
Looks pretty nice, I happened to have the soldering supplies and wire might do this myself. How is the charging time as I can't find the output for the touchstones anywhere. Would you still recommend it after having it for a while now?
nah don't do it
it has to be perfectly aligned to charge properly- from what i've read the real bionic backplate works even through cases-
i'd say wait for a better version that is less finicky
or make one with the bionic reg. battery wireless charging door like i plan to

I'd like that. I tried my bionic with the inductive charging door on the touchstone, and I couldn't get it to work, so this mod would be great. I hate the LG charging mat for the bionic
Do you know if this was a tight squeeze in the extended battery door? Also, does this mean you cannot take the door off anymore?
Hey guys, i know older post...has anyone done this with the reg battery?
If so, what kind of chargign times are u getting? ALso, are u usign the Palm mat or some other mat.
My intention is to use this with teh standard battery, and battery cover, so i can still use gel case

I did this using the stock charging cover for the bionic.
It works perfect but you need a Qi compatible pad. After searching I found one on ebay for 35 bucks. The only problem is it makes removing the battery difficult. My next project is to see if I can make the mod so it works just like the production cover.

Nope. Stock samsung charger and stock samsung cable. I'm. Glad I charge it at night. If I had to use it while charging, I'd blow my temper very quickly. It's exasperating, the touch.
This happens to me too and I've seen other reports for it.
I'm pretty sure this has to do with the charger. Doesn't matter if it's original Samsung or not - some chargers just cause this. It happens with my stock charger - when charging from it, often the screen doesn't react at all to touch, and when it does, it's quite poor - when dragging something on the screen, the phone would think I am pressing/releasing the finger all the time. Sometimes the accuracy is way off - for example, I want to press "L" on the (QWERTY) keyboard, and will get "X" or "R" instead (letters which are nowhere near it). When I use my girlfriends LG charger, everything works almost perfect (there are still some problems but those are barely noticable). When charging via USB, this doesn't seem to happen.
So, unless you're willing to take the charger to warranty (where they might demand your phone aswell), I've found the following solutions workarounds:
1. Charge using USB. Sure, it takes much longer, but as far as I know, charging a battery slower can only be good for the battery. Won't really do if you want to game while charging, since many games will draw more power than you will get from USB.
2. Use the S-Pen. This is what I do when I need to use my phone while charging. The S-Pen doesn't ever seem to be affected by this.
3. Buy a new charger - unless you're worried it might cause your battery to explode or something, you can buy a cheap no-name charger, since even the Samsung official ones don't seem to be immune to this problem. Just make sure you are able to test it before buying, since it is a hit-or-miss thing, regardless of the brand.
I don't think it's exactly due to the charger per se, but the amount of voltage coming through it.
I used to live in an area with really bad, unstable power that had less than the standard 220V coming out of the outlet.
Whilst charging my Galaxy S the screen was incredibly unresponsive when on the charger (even if it was at 100%). As soon as I removed it from the charger, it was fine.
Using the same charger now I'm closer to town with "normal" stable power, it works fine on the charger.
I had the same problem charging the phone on my old Asus T91 netbook. It didn't put out much power via the USB ports (If I used an external DVD drive I had to use one of those cables that lets you plug into 2 USB ports for the extra power).
But the phone works fine plugged into my full powered laptop.
Maybe try a different outlet and see if that helps.
Rich
Used to happen on my evo also. Hasn't happened to me on this phone though

[Q] When phone is off charging battery has question mark

I've had this phone for about two weeks now (I bought it used). When I got the phone the battery lasted pretty much all day for about 4-5 days. Then I pretty much started having charging issues. When the phone would fully die it would lock up. Sometimes when the phone had 80% battery it would lock up and stay that way for about 30-60 seconds. It would then reboot possibly lock up on boot for another 30-60 seconds, then if it did come on the battery would have an explanation mark telling you it needed to be charged. Now sometimes when you go to charge the phone it would turn on but have a question mark inside of the battery instead of where the colors are while it's charging and off.
I tried to purchase a battery locally and replace it. This battery does the same thing. The phone will boot for a bit, charge, then shut off. When I go into fastboot mode it says 'battery low'. When I got the phone and started having problems it was still stock everything, no root. Now I am running Youngunn's HoloBlur performance edition and the battery I tried to replace it with is an EB40.
The questions I really have are this.
1- When a battery is bad does it cause the '?' mark
2- Does the EB40 have to be calibrated some how, or does the ROM just pretty much know what's up
I don't really want to drop another $50 into a battery if that doesn't the issue. However in my past experience and knowledge of electronics and phones it seems to be the battery.
Thanks in advance!

Update: After reading a few threads on this site and others I've heard them all talking about using the OEM charger. I was using the USB brick I use for my Samsung tablet 5v 2a. I've just found a moto charger at my house which is 5v 550ma and the charging meter is now going up.
Thank you for searching guy.

You're welcome man!
I took the battery that I purchased back and ordered a new one off Amazon. I put my old battery back in the phone and left it alone. After the phone charged for two hours it said it was at 25%. I booted the phone up got about five mins of use out of it and it locked again and wouldn't turn back on. When the phone isnt on and just charging, does it use the ROM to display the battery charging meter?
Here's another update.. I got the new battery in and put it in the phone. I tried to power it up just to see if it had a charge and it displayed the unlocked bootloader logo and shut back off. I then tried to plug it into, still nothing. I eventually got the green light on the top to show up. At first it was blinking, then it went solid with a very small blink. After that, still nothing.
I have tried using a 5v 500ma, 5v 1a, and 5v 2a charger and still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have never used the original Moto USB charger. I usually use anything that was convenient and that includes my, laptop, desktop, HTC, LG, and Samsung USB chargers.
Same here. With any of my devices for that matter. Usually the phone can dumb it down or just not charge.

And sometimes that's fine but If it won't charge first thing to try is the factory charger to rule that out.

After going up to the ATT store and getting them to try multiple adapters it still isn't working. I have noticed that when you plug it into the computer it recognizes the phone.. To what extent I have no idea (since I only plugged it in for a minute at the store). There are also times when you plug it in and the green light will be flashing, and other times the light will be solid.
Like I said this is straight puzzling. The phone worked fine for a few days with no issues. It seems like it got wet but there's no way it could have.

This is a hoax. Battery calibration is not real (Words from a google/android employee). All these apps do is maybe clean up the battery statistics so android builds new ones (which it does by itself in the long run anyways). This process has nothing to do with the actual battery/hardware.
That's all they're meant to do. Wipe the stats so it will get a correct reading.
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX
Did you solved it?
I had the same issue ..couldnt fine a workaround uptill now
*facepalm
Solution:
1.Take out your battery.
2.See those contacts between the terminals? Yes, they're the battery sensors. If they're not in contact with the base plates on the phone board, do something about it. I don't know what, you decide.
3.get some naked wire and create your own screw washers, for the terminals. Screw them under the screw, between the battery board and base screw holes.
4.Tighten properly.
Done.
Now, try again till the charger accepts that your battery is existent.
You are welcome.

Phone Doesn't Charge As Quickly

I'm using the stock 3.0 use cable that came with it, but within the past week or so, my charging times has doubled. Has anyone else had this issue with their phone (Note 3, AT&T, rooted but stock rom)?
Sent from where the wind begins....
You say you're using the stock cable, are you using the stock charger also? It's 2 amps which is higher then most other chargers.
Yes, the charger and cable are both the original ones that came with the phone.
Sent from where the wind begins....
I don't know why it's taking longer, but you could buy one of those USB current meters on ebay for about $4 shipped from China, and actually measure the charge rate of your USB cable. You'll be surprised how some cables are inferior than the other even though they work fine for data.
Also, I don't think the included USB 3.0 cable provides faster charge time. I just use USB 2.0 cable and wireless Qi charging at home. If I use a good USB 2.0 cable, I get up to 1.5A charge rate. When I use a Samsung genuine but thin USB 2.0 cable, charge rate goes up to 1A. Since our battery is 3000mAh, it'll take little more than 3 hours with the thin cable. I usually charge whenever and as often so I don't know how long it really takes.
I think it may be a hardware issue, as I noticed last night that after 3 hours, my phone was actually losing juice while plugged in to the charger. I also noticed that while lying in the table, the screen was going on & off on its own. When I played around with the cable where it plugs into the phone, it would vibrate intermittently. So I'm now guessing it's a problem with the port on the phone.

Try a different cable first. It is cheaper. My son's note 2 was doing exactly the same thing. Cable looked fine but swapping to a new cable solved the problem.

Battery drain isn't the problem though, it's the phone not charging. A good example is 2 nights ago. The phone was at 76% when I plugged it in and went to bed. It vibrated, the charging icon came on, and the led was red¦ everything showing the phone was charging. But when I got up the next morning, the battery had actually lost 8% juice.
What I found I have to do is put a rubber band around the phone and charging cable so that it's pulling the cable up harder into the charging port. So that means that it's either a cable issue, or the port.
