Finally broke my streak 7 - Dell Streak 7

I cracked the screen, the reason I posted this is to see if anyone wants some of the stuff I have for it for free, I'd rather give it away to someone that might use it rather than throwing it away, it's not much stuff, 3 silicone covers, a folio type cover that doubles as a stand, the data cable, and even the broken unit, someone might be able to use it for parts, pm if you want the stuff

Is only the screen damaged? I have a previously donated one that had an intact screen but a damaged mobo.
I would use it to play around with the ICS beta if I had a 2nd, but at this point I dont think I'd have much to contribute on the S7 (besides documentation)
I would likely use it to update my disassembly guide to include taking apart the LCD, i didnt want to risk further damage to my good lcd as I only had one.

just bougt one

What happened to yours? Probably the same wear as some where the small L shaped latches finally break away? Would be helpful to have an extra back cover handy. Does yours at least stay shut so the phone stays on?
Fortunately it stays, but it is not easy to change battery!!

Someone posted on this site that its $30 from dell.com but would be nice locating a better deal elsewhere.
Gotcha!
For those who havent found a replacement yet, I've found a few on ebay from Honk Kong for £17.99, free P&P... Search 'battery door cover fix dell streak'. Obviously, unless someones managed to find a better deal..
There are covers listed on eBay, but you might want to check out this replacement battery. It isn't much more than the cover by itself and you get a new battery.

Back Cover White Replacement?

Does anyone know where I could get a white back cover like the ones they had on the I/O Nexus 7 Devices? Off eBay or Amazon or wherever.
I'm looking for a replacement of the entire back cover, not something to go over it.
Thanks!
Doubt you'll see many third party rear covers, since the stock cover has all the wireless antennas mounted to it.

Nothing is attached to the back cover and it's not particularly complex. I popped mine off with a credit card - it's just a plastic cover, nothing special. Still, I suspect that the market for replacements would be pretty small, but who knows?

You didn't look very hard... it has at least the NFC antenna in it and if I recall other antenna connections as well. Look for the connectors that connect it to the back of the device.
Good lord, I'm a dumbass. You're right. But it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to duplicate the antenna placements. I suspect, though, that there just wouldn't be enough demand.
It's like anything else, replacement parts are a narrow and usually expensive market. A replacement cover with the antennas would probably run double the coat of a regular replacement back. And that's once dealers get a demand big enough to warrant making them at all. -Ara

Hehe well it was worth a shot
I'd love to get it to match my white HTC One X on AT&T but I guess not
thanks anyway!
One option would be to "Paint" the cover. With the correct paint types, it should be easy to do... I've no clue what those proper paint types would be, but it would need to be something that covers well, stays on and doesn't impair the use of all the antennas.
My daughter who makes toys might know. I'll ask her tonight.
Use a vinyl paint such as duplicolor or sem. That's how I painted my gnex and how I plan on painting the n7

When I had my Xperia X1, I bought entire replacement housings for $30 on ebay, buttons and metal bits included lol. Cant the actual antenna itself be removed from the back cover and mounted on a new cover?
I dont see why this would be such an impossible idea.
Interesting, in removed my back cover a few times to pull the battery. Didn't see any connections. Guess I didn't look hard enough. What kind of connections? Metal pins I'm assuming

WARNING! Case Damaged Nexus - YooMee Black Leather Folio

I bought the YooMee Black Leather Folio from Amazon. The bottom "clasp" scratched my Nexus by the headphone jack on the silver bezel.
I attached a picture, but the focus on my E4GT's camera is wonky. (I hate refurbished devices.)
I sent a message to the seller, but I don't expect much other than a refund.
I have Moko version of that case and my N7 is fine.

My phone is at the Sprint store because the camera isn't focusing. I posted the blurry picture I have, and I'll post more later.
The damage is a small scratch on the silver bezel, near the screen extending from just before the headphone jack.
It was caused by removing the device from the case. The "clasp" on the bottom, near the middle, scratched it as I removed it. It looks like the poor stitching and glue was the cause.
I also received a response from someone at YooMee. Once they reply to my response, I'll post what they have said. It's not encouraging.
can you post a picture of your case where the clasp is? were there anything hard that was exposed that scratched your n7 or did the case damaged your n7 thru the pleather?

I don't doubt it for a minute. The first case I got was so tight it wouldn't close. They were great about exchanging it and the second one I received, the side stitching was uneven,so it was real tight at the bottom right corner and just right on the top right. I took it off and considered my $8 a donation; didn't feel like another exchange. I was very surprised because the Kindle Fire case (same design) I got from them was perfect. It looks like they rushed the Nexus case and quality control is lacking. Knowing I had a problem the first time, I expected them to make sure the replacement was perfect. Guess I expected too much.

Really? I think you can ask them again. The folks at YooMee were really great about sending in several replacements to me because the first two had defective magnets and then they sent a third to me again. Honestly, great service that was crazy quick. They might have looked past the quality control for the first batch but the new case they sent over fits like a glove.
Mattheyu - I can't see the pic too well. Is that a scratch or a dent? Looks more like it was dented?? I probably wouldn't blame the case for it. I say that the build quality of the Nexus tablet itself is lacking. I own both Nexus 7 & Kindle Fire HD and I can see how that could possibly happen to my 7 but I just can't see that happening to my Kindle Fire HD tablet at all.

It's a scratch. If it was a dent, I wouldn't have called it a scratch. I noticed the scratch almost immediately after removing the case, and, at that point, I had yet to even use the headphone jack.
The sleep/wake feature no longer works either. There isn't a single edge without the stitching coming loose. When I wrote my initial e-mail, they tried to quote a company policy to cover their own ass. As soon as I pointed out that it was never displayed and I never agreed to it, they started trying to make me happy.
Screw YooMee and their ****ty products and lackluster customer support.

Man this is what I am afraid of when buying these cases with the grips, that is why I am close to buying the Poetic Slimbook (comes with a handstrap and I do some major eReading) and a 3 year warranty is nice.
I use a case on my phone and have noticed scratches from small specs of dirt. I think I'm going to go naked with my Nexus 7, probably just a screen protector. Sometimes playing your odds is a better bet.
Maybe you could protect the bezels finish with some clear tape before putting on the case.

Well, no need to get upset. I'm just saying my experience was more than pleasant. If scratches bug, it's because there's a silver bezel. The Fire is my own personal preference in build quality. I also have the Nexus 7 and scratches can easily happen. It could've even happened before you slid your case out since those cases only protect the corners and not the sides. At least YooMee is trying to make you happy and not ignoring your emails like some other companies I've dealt with. Again, just commenting on my own experience. I'm not looking to offend.

A week between responses is pretty close to ignoring. Their resolution is to refund the purchase price, send me a sleeve of some sort from a "sister company", and send a prepaid USPS label to return the old case. Initially they proposed just a refund, then a refund, replacement case, and I keep the defective case, then they wanted me to return the case from my own pocket.
Here is my first e-mail:
The case I purchased, YooMee Black Google Nexus 7 Inch Android Tablet Leather Case Cover Folio with Multi-Angle Stand, Stylus Holder Strap and Hand Strap order number ################, has scratched my brand new Google Nexus 7 tablet.
I am extremely upset about this, especially considering that a product that I purchased to protect my device has damaged it. My phone's camera is not focusing properly, but I have attached a photo showing where the damage is. It is by the headphone jack where the case clips on to the device.
I am contacting you to see if you will make an effort to correct this before I escalate the issue.
Thank you,
This was their initial response:
Dear ,
I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened. Unfortunately, the tablet should slide into the clips of the case and cannot cause this type of damage if it is done correctly. Any other methods or misuse of trying to clip the case onto the tablet is inaccurate and does not fall under our company's warranty policy. Additionally, from the blurred picture, it looks like the dented area is directly above the headphone jack, however, the placement of the clips when done accurately is not where the dented area is in the picture.
I have pasted part of our company's warranty that applies to this situation for your reference:
Exclusions and Limitations
YooMee's limited warranty applies only to the Product. The warranty does not apply to any non-YooMee branded product, even if packaged or sold with the Product. The warranty excludes without limitation any scratching or surface damage to any non-YooMee product, even if packaged or sold with the Product. This warranty applies only to the normal use of the Product, normal wear and tear excepted, in accordance with written use instructions, if any, provided with the Product (either in pictures, writing or through customer support emails or a hyperlink to such instructions). This warranty does not apply to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, or modification of the Product.
Damages Limitation
To the maximum extent permitted by law, YooMee is not responsible for direct, or for special, incidental or consequential damages resulting from any breach of warranty or condition, or under any other legal theory, including without limitation any costs of replacing personal property, or costs of recovering or reproducing any program or data stored in a device used with or carried in the YooMee product.
Once again, I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to your tablet. Please feel free to contact me again if there are any additional questions or concerns.
Best,
As far as I'm concerned, they attempted to use disclaimers as a "scare" tactic to deter me from pursuing the issue.
My reply:
Dear ,
This type of damage was directly cause by sliding the tablet out of the case. The "middle" clasp on the bottom scratched the area above my headphone jack while removing the tablet from the case.
Those disclaimers may be your companies policy, but I am unable to locate them anywhere on Amazon's site, nor were they displayed to me during the checkout process. Therefore, I do not believe that I agreed to them nor would I be bound by them.
Regardless of YooMee's policies and their application to my situation, I was providing YooMee the opportunity to reply and attempt to reconcile the situation before I leave negative feedback on the product, YooMee as a seller, and request a refund through Amazon. Any further action beyond that has yet to be decided.
I look forward to your response. Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Only then did they attempt to make amends. I was not pleased.

[Q] GALAXY NOTE 2 Metal back cover?

Hey guys, anyone know if, for the Galaxy Note 2, a metal back cover instead of the original plastic one is available to purchase from anywhere?
I want to my note 2 to have a metal back and a case is just not cutting it due to the added bulkiness, it would be much easier if instead of the detachable plastic cover, a metal cover is attached instead.
Now i know that the original plastic cover has an NFC antenna within it so im not sure if this is why im unable to find one online.
Any ideas?
The phone has been out for 3 days....give it some time.
Thanks for the reply, very useful
Keep checking ebay. I'm sure some Chinese ones will be popping up here real soon.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Wouldn't it cause interference problems? I'm no expert here...so probably wrong; but I assume samsung uses crap plastic because it would block the signals, or at least cause problems.
It would indeed. Unless they embedded some antennae into it and had a way to connect it to the main device antennae (all of them), it'll just reduce signal strength.
A metal back cover would stop NFC working and probably interfere with general signal too.
A rubber or textured back would be a nice option

I'd definitely like that. I'd also like to see a manufacturer (whether Samsung or 3rd party) come out with a replacement cover that also has an integrated kickstand.
I think others have used Plasti-Dip to coat battery covers in order to give a more 'rubberized' feel. I know I'm going to be looking at something like that when I can finally get one out of Verizon.

Alot of people are replying that a different case would intefer with th NFC.
As stated originally, I am aware of this, so when I ask of any alternatives, I ask with the NFC issue dealt with.
IMO, A plastic back is not worthy of my note 2 :good:

ANY metal case WILL kill your signal UNLESS it's also designed to function as an antenna; which isn't going to happen. So you can either get used to the plastic back, deal with losing some functionality, or get a different phone.

I'm guessing you didn't read what I wrote despite you quoting it lol. If you read, I asked, with the nfc issue sorted. So in simpler words for you, a case supporting nfc.
Instead you just told me something I already know..
If you don't know of any, then next time you don't need to reply, as rather than answering my question all you just did is try to sound knowledgeable. Well done.
Anyway, asking questions on xda seems to get a lot of hate. Just read 2 other threads and it was filled with blunt, unhelpful replies.

I think he was referring more to the fact that you will lose your GSM radio signal with a metal back cover, he was not referring to the NFC.
Personally I think the plastic/polycarbonate material they use for the note 2 is of high quality and keeps the phone light yet strong and keeps radio performance at it's best...
Perhaps the note 2 isn't for you if you feel the quality is that bad?
If he was referring to the gsm, then my bad.
The note 2 is perfect, I had the Dell streak before the note series etc as I'm in love 5" phabs,
I just wondered if alternatives were available, the current back looks good but I'm just a fan of metal covers.
So don't get it wrong as I'm not slating the current back.
So anyway, if it's not available then never mind, curiosity was just asking.
There is another thread on here in this section which mentions some soon to be released alternative back covers for the GN2. They look metallic but not sure if they are actually metal... there is a lovelly carbon fiber effect one too
Great, just found it,
I think I'll stick with the original for now as original is always best looking, but I hope after a while a decent amount of accessories get produced as these days if it's not Iphone it gets slept on.

DIY Solution (with photo) for the official ASUS Travel Cover

Yep, I was silly enough to buy the official cover. Half my fault, half the guy at the store not telling me the right information. He said it should have magnets to stay shut and wake the device, obviously it doesn't. I do like the material, and how easy it is to insert and remove the Nexus 7 itself for longer periods of use. Plus it feels decent with it on, still tough and relatively thin and portable, which is a big reason why I moved to the Nexus 7.
I'd looked at things like the Poetic Portfolio, which has had a lot of problems, and similar cases on ebay, but seeing as I've already bought the official cover I thought I'd do something about it.
So here it is, a simple rubber band. Keeps the lid closed while I'm not using it, and it maintains the low profile of the device without needing one of the thicker book covers! For the price of the cover, yeah I would have loved some magnets in there too, but some stores here in Australia already have aisles full of iPad mini cases and a total of THREE Nexus 7 cases.
I'm looking at upgrading my rubber band to a larger material elastic band that doesn't require as much stretching, but we'll see. At least I'll have some flexibility, what colours go well with grey??
Photo: http://imgur.com/l5KTg.jpg
Edit: Bought some black elastic and made it more like a proper book cover, just stitched a line of it into a circle. The band, when flattened, is about 3/4 of the height of the tablet so it stretches out enough to stay on and keep the lid closed well.

weird! salesman told me the same thing, that the cover has a magnet which is able to turn the screen on and off, and i bought it!. i am not sure who is giving wrong information to all the salesmen. i haven't opened the box so thinking if i should just return it. i like it though, and the bigger problem is that i don't like any other cases available at the moment. hmm..
don't care much about the missing "active" feature of the case but the front flap just haging off kinda sounds silly. how bad it is really? i don't want to use this rubber band workaround, although it does look cool, but i know i'm gonna lose it sooner or later. maybe I need to search for more DIY solutions.

I feel like I've looked through every solution. I've persisted with this case because it feels like it will last and it is the kind of size I want. It doesn't have a stand or anything, but I don't feel like I need one right now. If I do, there are a million options for tablet stands.
I'm about to update the OP with a new photo. I've bought some elastic and stitched it together to make a better solution than the rubber band.
I have also done something similar. I stuck a low power magnet inside with a sticker to hold it in place. As for the rubber band, I decided to put some industrial strength Velcro on the side.
