Odin stock has kernel brick issue? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I just got a Note and I'm trying to sort through all of this kernel brick stuff. If I Odin flash one of the stock ICS images will I have an issue? If so, what do I need to do to fix it?
Sorry for possible repeated question but I didn't see this answered and can't tell what's current and what's old.

I bought my note today.. Opened the box, connected to pc in Odin mode, flashed a stock gb rom rooted, then installed mobile Odin and flashed a kernel with cwm, downloaded cm9 and now I'm rocking safe ics with no brick bug and no yellow triangle count down..
Go here follow all that.. And live your life with no worries avoiding this way all the troubles
Btw.. After I flashed cm9 I had to boot into ics and then reboot into recovery mode again to be able to flash gapps...

I bought the phone used and the guy had already loaded CM9. Android OS is sucking up 30% of my battery when I don't touch the phone most of the day. So I wanted to try a stock load to see if it got better battery life.
If I flash a stock ICS will I need to worry about the brick issue?

yes stock is not safe. on any n7000 devices. i advise flashing Stock ICS then rebooting the phone into download mode then FLASH Speedmod Kernel use PCODIN (THAT IS A SAFE KERNEL) then you can flash whatever rom you like a very stock but fast rom that i use is CLEANNOTE 2.20 , after your done flashing the rom yes you will have the yellow triangle and the binary count. but you can use an app that i posted in the APPS section called " TRIANGLE AWAY " from chainfire and that will get rid of all that stuff. the Device lasts for a very long time on that kernel. i enjoy speedmod's kernel i personally use his 3-3 version because i have no need to update it.

Awesome, thanks for the reply.

I PC ODIN flashed a stock image (N7000XXLQ2_N7000XEULP4_XEU) and rebooted, and it just sat on the boot screen. I rebooted into download and flashed speedmod kernel, and now it's still just sitting on the boot screen with a Yellow Triangle.
What should I do to recover?
Edit: never mind, data wipe fixed it

Had successfully flashed with original firmware 2.3.3 DXJV9 and did the factory reset. However all my sms has gone .
Btw, what is the best root kernel for this firmware?
I'm pretty sure JVO and JV9 are the same in kernel aspects so you should be able to use CF Root 3.2 JVO. The reason for these boot loops might have been because of the rom you were using, if it was a stock one it's no wonder it went into boot loops as Juwe's rom is deodexed so the addon would definitely not work. If it was a deodexed I'm not sure how it could have happened. But really the addon was made for Juwe's rom so unless you were running it it wasn't really the addons fault. Tips for the future: Make a backup in CWM, saves a lot of hassle with odin and saves your stuff. Have a CWM flashable rom on your SD card which saves you needing odin to recover. Hope this helps

After booting back into recovery CWM started counting up numbers without stopping

I've got my phone rooted and is current running 4.0.3 Hong Kong firmware. I intended to flash rocket rom v7 so I first installed abyss kernel 4.2 so as to do a full wipe. However, after I rebooted to recovery it started counting up numbers with no sign of stopping.
I pulled out the battery and tried to restart my phone but it hangs at the logo screen.
Now my phone can still enter CWM and download mode which means my phone is not bricked yet, hopefully.
Can I flash stock ICS rom using PC Odin so as to bring my phone back to normal?
Please help me out, thx
BTW can someone provide me the download link of galaxy note 4.0.3 Hong Kong firmware? The download link provided by Dr Ketan seems to be invalid.

After restarting your phone its stock on samsung logo because you have abyss gb kernel in ics rom so it will not bootup. Dont worry just flash a safe ics kernel youll be find no need to flash the whole rom.
same here

Sent from my Desire HD using XDA
ok so i've let it count up to above 62000, pulled out the battery and luckly my SGN is still working
The counting happened to me when I flashed abyss kernel over stock 4.0.3 to get ready for cm9.
At first I didn't know what to do so I left the counting on. After few minutes I took out the battery n tried to boot to see if it's bricked. It stuck on logo so I booted to recover and flashed the abyss kernel again but this time I pressed on the Back key and it showed the recovery menu again.
After few minutes of sweats n built up courage I flashed cm9 over it.
And it was successful and booted into cm9.
So I think after flashing abyss kernel n press either the menu or back key will reboot into recovery and able to flash anything afterward.

Back up in CMW stuck at "bb"

Hi guys,
Last week I rooted my phone and flashed the Rocketrom v10 flashing the Abysskernel first, just to be 100% sure there couldn't happen anything, and then flashed the rom. Everything works with fine with it and I'm very happy that I begin to understand how flashing and so is on a Samsung device (with the emmc brickbug and stuff).
Now: I want to flash the CM10 ROM but I prefer to do a backup of this rom before I flash any rom again. I tried once and got into clockworkmod recovery (via Volume up, power and menu button pressed all at once) and tried backing up my rom there. That didn't seem to be a problem untill the whole progress bar had reached to almost 100% and there was written "bb" and got stuck on that screen for ages..
What could that be?
I thought I could try to make a backup using ROMmanager but there they ask me to flash clockworkmod recovery, and I don't know if that's a good idea, because the rom already has a CWM recovery in itself?
thank you very much!
If you are interested inflashing CM10,here is the detailed guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801686
when you were doing the back up you were probably on Notecore kernel right ?
Yes, thats right. Is that the problem? Because I thought it was a safe kernel from what I can back up and wipe without problem..?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
That kernel seems to be laggy on cwn... Try speedmod k3 13.. Has fast cwm... Or hydracore which has the latest.
Also make sure u have enof space in ur storage

I have not been able to get the rom manager to work on my n7000:
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
So I could download hydracore or another safe kernel and immediate after that make a backup in cwm. Afterwards I'd have to do a fullwipe and after that I could flash for instance the paranoid android ROM? I dont need to installs another kernel to do these things right...just a safe kernel like hydracore?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I have a problem.
I tried flashing the hydracorekernel and it worked, than I tried backing upthe rom but it warned me I hadn't anough space, probably, and it continued the action and got stuck on system backup at "email.apk". So i pulled the battery to get the phone rebootedand free the sdcard space. But there it wentwrong: on the recovery CMW recovery that came with the hydracore kernel nothing happened when clicking 'reboot system now' to reboot the phone. It just showed me a screen with the rommanager logo and the version number of the cmw recovery, all the option (like choose zip from sd) dissapeared when clicking reboot but the phone didnt reboot.
What should I do now?
i dont have a backup on my phone yet, because I flashed hydracore to be able to backup my phone... I have these zipfiles onmy sdcard:
- abyskernel (I had it to be able to flash rocketrom)
- rocketrom zip
- paranoid android zip
- googleapps zip
- hydracore kernel zip
What should I do know?! My phone wontboot anymore, just because I wanted to back my rom up (and therefore flashed hydracore correctly)
as a rule you should never ever try flashing a kernel using CWM... that would tantamount bricking your phone.
If you can boot up still in Download Mode, You may need to downgrade back to stock GB first. Once your phone is in stock GB. Flash AbyssNote kernel to root your phone. By the way Abyss kernel is ONLY USE ON STOCK GB and NOT on any ICS ROM.
Once you have your phone rooted and in stock GB... follow the instructions on flashing back your RocketRom kernel (from the instructions in flashing on RocketRom's thread)
P.S. Not that I am against Hydra/NoteCore... but I am more confident in flashing SpeedMod on any custom ICS ROM. Not that it matters to you though, but I'm just saying it.

like I've said.. you can try whichever kernel you like.. but my personal preference is SpeedMod...I have nothing against HydraCore itself as I have tried it myself... and Yes SpeedMod doesn't have those 'magical elves and wizardry' that Hydra delivers... but what it can deliver is stability and peace of mind (at least on my part). You can gain confidence on a kernel when there's less (to none) issues it can bring.
Hmmm agree

If you are using the OC kernel maybe that is causing some issues. As you are in a safe kernel, you can try to flash the standard version of Notecore in CWM recovery.

Since you cannot even boot in cwm recovery so flashing kernel through cwm seems impossible, try flashing STD kernel using PC odin (if you can handle yellow triangle and all) OR simply flash rooted GB again.

Looks like not a kernel issue.
On safe kernel wipe cache and dalvik cache.try that.

[Q][Brickbug(?)] Galaxy note stuck at brick animation despite new rom/kernel.

Hi. Would be great if anyone could help as I bricked[?] my phone earlier today.
So here's what happened.
I was on SweetRomV1 JB previously and wanted to flash back to ICS RRv12.
So I stupidly flashed Abyss Kernel from my recovery forgetting that it doesn't support JB rom.
So the CWM started refreshing itself, stopping me from surfing the menu up and down.
I pulled out the battery, place it back in. The phone started up, but the screen was empty/blank/black.
Searched on the net then I realized Abyss Kernel doesn't support JB.
So under some forumer advice, I flashed a Stock ICS Rom using PC odin.
This time, I can access recovery with no problem. However I'm still stuck, the phone is not rebooting.
I'm stuck at the Samsung logo.
So I decided to flash a new kernel using PC odin and a new rom.
I flashed SpeedMod K3-15 using Pc odin and in recovery, I flashed the RRv12 rom.
Now it's still loading the boot animation.
I'm really at a loss now. Can anyone help?
I can access download mode and recovery. But I can't place files into my ext_sd because I can't boot up my phone.
Can anyone help me to get my phone working again?
Thanks in advance.
Flash stock gb via pc odin and work from there. The problem is you flashed incompatible kernels. The flash back to original should be fine.

I did it last night. I'm able to boot up now and I'm in RRv12 now. However, what just happened was, I changed to a fresh battery to charge it.
When I boot up, it shows that battery is disconnected. So I did a power off, and pulled out the battery. Used the method online, dropped the battery from around 2 feet high.
When I place the battery in again, I'm stuck AGAIN at the boot animation.
Any help?
