I am in a fringe 4g area where I don't have a really good signal, so I want to force to 3g but the option for preferred networks is grayed out. Anyone else have this problem?

I was able to install LTE onOff from the market, but I should be able to do it in the system settings.
Go to the Dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* and then go to Phone Information. In the lower half of that screen you'll get every network option you could ask for. Go "CDMA Only" for 2G data only and choose "CDMA Auto (PRL)" for 3G
Thanks for that, buy we used to be able to switch between 3g/cdma and LTE in the settings menu. I am just trying to figure out if it is an unfinished part of the leak or something permanent of ics.

On the thunderbolt the lte onoff app you are able to select "lte only" setting. Is there any way to provision this? The reason I ask is because on the thunderbolt The 4g is always on even in the "cdma/lte auto" setting in my area. However on the bionic, it's very intermittent. It chooses to jump to 3g randomly.
I do notice that on the market app lte onoff app it says thunderbolt only. Is there any other ways to achieve this?
Thank you so much for any help.
I'm looking for a method that will allow me to manually select what sort of mobile internet to use (LTE, HSPA+, EDGE).
This is for two reasons mainly:
1)Better battery life on 3G vs LTE
2)With a data cap I'd rather have lower speeds where I can control data usage better
3)All 4.2 ROMS do not show the mobile signal strength indicator on LTE but does show up for HSPA+ etc
I have tried several methods shown in various forums but to no avail. Also even unselecting 'automatic' and manually registering 3G under 'network operators' does not seem to fix this.
I am using T-Mobile in an LTE area.
Thanks

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and you can choose network options.... If you are on stock att or bell it will not work and you should download an app called network which also does the same...

thanks will try it out.
Also, *#*#4636#*#* works on Mexican Retail (confirmed). And this fixes the problem for network signal indicator (not for LTE though)

I have tried but everytime I click on lte or any other network it automatically flips right back to WCDMA.
I would like my phone to be connected to 3g all the time in order to save battery... Is there any way to do this? Changing to gsm, CDMA in network settings still gives me hspa.
Thnx

HSPA is still 3G. If you want you can select to use GSM only and you will only get EDGE connectivity.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, and there's a dropdown which by default says WCDMA preferred. Switch that to whatever else you need. Also, remember that this setting does not stick after reboot so you need to reset it to your preference each time after you reboot your phone.
Misread, sorry.
Anyone else have this happen? Data is working fine while it says gsm, is it really picking up gsm or is it a incorrect label.

No that's the icon Sprint uses if you use the phone outside US. If you want 3G/H icons go to /system/customize/AAC/default.xml and find this line
sku_id 10 and change it to 42

I've gotten GSM to display if I go to the "Testing" menu and select "LTE, CDMA" but only sometimes. Once I am ready to quit messing around with what I CAN figure out why it does that or what benefit that possibly has I just deselect another option then deselect "LTE, CDMA" and all is well.
My phone is stuck in 2g. Everytime I switch to 3g or 4g my signal will die. Does anyone know what is the fix for this?

add correct APN settings for your carrier in Settings -> Mobile data -> Access point names -> menu -> New APN
I did that but still no signal in 3g and 4g.

Go to dialer, type *#*#4636#*#*, go to set preferred network type and make sure you select an option that includes CDMA, LTE and Evdo
