go to peter alfonso's website and download the sbf file and if you are running windows download the drivers off of motorola's website and download rsdlite but if you are mac os x or linux get sbf_flash

new droids

are all currently sold droids from verizon in the us able to gain root I didnt see anything saying no or yes want to know before I pick one up
Short answer: yes, but it's slightly more of a hassle than it used to be
Long answer: Currently shipping Droids come with 2.1 preinstalled, so you can't root using the same method to root 2.0.1. The only way to root these devices is to use RSD Lite to either flash back to 2.0.1 or to flash a new recovery. With the former, you can just root using the same methods others had before; with the latter, you can just install a ROM that's already rooted. Flashing with RSD Lite can be dangerous, since it's the tool VZW and Motorola techs use to repair phones, and you actually can brick your phone if something goes wrong in the process.
I flashed directly from 2.1 OTA to 2.1 rooted using RSDlite, it worked very well.
Now using CyanogenMod w/ bekit 800LV 5-slot kernel, couldn't be happier.

Rom Manager for Milestone?

So I rooted my old milestone today with intentions of installing a custom rom. After not being able to install rom manager I searched for other options. I tried adb and droid explorer but nothing is working.. I attempted installing a vulnerable img with rsd lite until I discovered it was for a853 milestones not a854. Anyways, does anyone have any idea how to get rom manager or at least clockwork recovery on the milestone? Its not on the market and wont install using the apk so I'm stumped. If not, does anyone have any other ideas of how to get a custom rom on here? I have the android sdk and adb installed, busybox installed, droid explorer installed, but I cant figure this out. Thanks in advance..

A853=MILESTONE & A855 =DROID now how can A854 be the same?
Do you want me to take some pictures? I'm not retarded. Its a Canadian CDMA version of the Droid and they call it the Milestone. If you don't know what I'm talking about then GTFO.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912490 here's a basic guide i found on the web to root and install roms on your phone
A855 = Droid - CDMA (custom kernel bootable)
A853 = Milestone - GSM (no custom kernel bootable due to signature check)
A854 = later, non-Verizon Droid that is (unfortunately) also called Milestone - CDMA (custom kernel bootable)
If you have an A854, follow the guides for Droid, not for Milestone.
Btw., if you really have an A854 that is GSM, then you're really special and alone on the planet .
Meant CDMA sorry.
I've looked at a few Droid guides but just can't get a custom recovery to flash.

[Q] .906 already on replacement Droid 3, okay with ICS?

The screen backlight on my D3 took a crap so I called it in and got a replacement. To my surprise, they gave me a brand new one instead of a refurbished or "reconditioned" phone. To my *even greater* surprise, the .906 update was already installed. My question is this: do safestrap and AOSP ICS or AOKP ICS support the .906 update? Also, what do I do if something happens? I am not aware of any available SBF for the .906 system. What needs to happen for the fastboot files to be made available? Any answers are much appreciated.
Hello I don't know about ICS but I've allready updated my droid 3 too with .906 and then I install safestrap and voila I've been back to Maverick ROM(my back up)
I guess safestrap has boot my droid 3 to my back up partition. I will try installing ics on this safe system.
You have to root with the D4 root tool I believe. Other than that, IIRC, it's no different.

Bricked Droid Bionic!! RSD Lite wont work

Hello all, I'm not new to rooting and flashing roms but am new to the Droid Bionic. I've been doing hours of research and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem yet although it is probably here somewhere. I have a Droid Bionic and have been on Gingerbread for some time. Im not sure of the official update im on but I decided Id like to try an ics leak. The one i tried had two files: one was called SpearmintGum_targa-Release-1.2, and the other was called speargapps-ics-20120304-signed. Now i had a friend help me out and we did it together but we both failed to read the instructions saying not to reboot before installation of the 2nd package. So now i have my Droid Bionic stuck in a bootloop and nothing ive tried works. Ive tried RSD Lite to go back to stock .902 and it didnt work. I tried rebooting into stock recovery and i just dont know what to do! If there is already an answer to my question Id really appreciate to be pointed in the right direction to the thread. If anyone knows what i can do to fix id really appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Need to find out what version you're on. Settings, scroll to bottom, about phone, and get it. Also, if you're not on a later build, no reason to fxz to 902 when 905 is out. Also need RSD 5.7 and latest moto drivers. Let me know when you get all that. I'll walk you through it.

he said he gets boot loops, i'm guessing he can't get into settings, about, etc
Did you use as or BS to install? You should be able to pull battery if on BS, wipe all and restore nandroids. Otherwise post above has a valid point.

Try this:
First download an ics leak for bionic. Then RSD to .905 gingerbread. Put the ics leak on your phone and boot into stock recovery. Install the leak from there and see if your phone boots up. Wait at least 10 minutes before seeing if it failed or not.
For the record you were trying to flash a ics rom not a ics leak
All ics leaks just require to flash 1 file in stock recovery
You can try to use this script to fxz back to 905 and then try a ics leak

AND MAKE SURE YOU READ THE OP AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
good luck

Returning a XT1096 (Verizon) Moto X 2014 Back to Stock?

Hey Guys,
I am helping a friend install CM13 on his XT1096 since Motorola is letting VZW users unlock their boot loaders.
Just in case anything goes wrong (this is his first time doing stuff like this), I want to make sure he can get his phone back to stock somehow. For example, with a Nexus, I just flash all the factory images, bootloaders, and radios one by one and the phones brand new again. I am having a hard time finding any info on how to do this for the Verizon Moto X 2014?
So my question is: If his phone boot loops or soft bricks, are there factory images or any way to return his phone to stock in an official capacity (factory images)?
Using this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-return-to-stock-official-status-t3274121
And the XT1096 Image Here - http://www.filefactory.com/folder/dd05c058d3ff8dbe/?sort=created&order=DESC&show=25&page=4
Its same like nexus, but rather then pushing commands one by one you better download rsd lite latest version and after switching into fast boot mode open rsd lite and you will see device connected, locate the flashfile.xml from moto x zip and flash it. Its easier.. And almost every xt1096 files are available.
