Google's Play Movies & TV app help - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Themes and Apps

I need your help with this app, well mostly the content. So now google play offers movie purchaces but in order to play them back you need to install Google's Play Movie & TV app, basically a video player. The app works well and all but i am wondering if there is a way to play the content on the tabs stock video player. I want to take advantage of the 5.1 sound. Once you purchace the movie you are able to download it but i can not seem to find it anywhere on tab and it is not on the download folder. I used root explorer but no where to be found. I also tried launching the stock video player but it only sees the sample video that came with the tab. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Hi,
I might be wrong but doesnt that just steam the video when it tells you it is being downloaded, this could be the only way you would watch it but not find it after that in the file system.
Have you checked the players file system?
Not to promote piracy but would it not be easier to download it over torrent and watch it with your original player...

I have looked for the players file system but i can't find it either.
Tried to use torrents but they are a bit annoying to use so i would just rather pay for the movie, i dont mind really.

I don't think he means streaming. He is renting them from Netflix, converting them on a PC, and then transferring them to the tablet. I don't know of a reliable way to watch streaming movies from places like Netflix but I have heard Netflix is working on it. I can stream things from my PC using an app called upnplay, and some people use Orb, or others. But they pretty much all are using the movies on your PC.

Streaming for movies is a no go. We are waiting to see if netflix releases an app.
Tv.com and hulu work for light/casual tv viewing purposes.
okay maybe im not being clear...
1. is it possible to rent or buy itunes movies on g tablet?
2. is it possible to rent or buy block buster movies on g tablet?
3. is it possible to save movies on the g tablet through an external disk drive(like movies i own?)
thanks

Wow.. You didn't get that from the discussion above
1. No
2. No. Unless you mean to have them sent to your house.
3. Yes. will need to convert them to a format playable by the tablet. Can copy them to an external sdcard, or to the internal sdcard, USB thumbdrive, or even an external hard drive.
As said above the way most do it is to convert a DVD, or your movie file and then copy it on to your tablet. I'm sure there are companies out there looking at ways to do what you ask but not yet. Android is like the wild west of operating systems in a lot of companies minds. Because it is open source they act like everyone will steal everything they put out. Unlike the Ipad that is locked tighter than a drum..

1 & 2, If you can watch on a browser in you computer then you can watch them on G-Tab with a browser. Currently there is no iTunes App of Netflix App for G-Tab.
3. Yes you can watch your movies, but there are some format restrictions, search this forum for the tools and format which can be used.
mediainfo software on you PC will give you info of your movies.
Okay... so can I download iTunes movie to my PC and convert that? I hate not understanding this stuff...aaaaargh
I'm downloading a movie now to PC...will try to save to SD card...
will I need to purchase a media player app for tablet

I think anything you try to do with Itunes is going to cause you problems. The movie will likely have DRM. That is copy protection. I don't know how to convert that, it likely will not play on your tablet because you don't have a player from Apple to decode it on the tablet.
Only thing right now I know of that works reliably is to use a DVD, or a movie file without DRM and convert it. I know there are ways to watch from sites like Hulu, or TV.com but I don't find them to be really reliable yet. Usable, yes. Reliable with no issues, no.
I know it is not what you wanted to hear but this stuff is all brand new and will get better. Just not yet..

Yes, I have a 69 Charger. Have had it since 1992.
Anyway, if you are trying to play the itunes movie that's likely the DRM keeping it from playing. Rockplayer is my favorite player. Some people have success with MKV, others don't. I haven't messed with it enough to know. I just convert everything to MP4 in Handbrake and it plays good enough for me.
Videos from iTunes won't play even if converted in handbrake. You have to use something like tunebite which is supposedly a legal way around drm if you bought the file.
There are tons of sites dedicated to file conversion from any source to playback on portable devices/memory cards. I highly suggest googling for them to find more detailed information and people who are more specialized.
I4iphones
i use i4iphones i used it on my jailbroken ipodtouch in app form and as long as the movies have a megaupload box you can download or stream them on the g tablet
Seems like an expensive way to do it.
Renting an individual movie via blockbuster/itunes=3.99 a movie. (or at least thats what blockbuster charges when i use my samsung blu-ray players app).
Netflix 1 at a time. unlimited netflix viewing at home plus 1 movie at a time for $9.99 a month unlimited.
I can get 2 a week for that, pop them in my pc, Encode them and send to the tablet via usb cable. Figure, just over $1 each for each movie at that rate, (not counting the net flix streams i get to my blu ray player and iphone).

Movies on galaxy tab

I am relatively new to android from a blackberry. I have a verizon galaxy tab and I have downloaded ttorrent in the market and when I download movies (so far I have tried avi and mp4 format) and try to view them they do not play with the media player and I do not get an error message it just goes to a black media player screen and doesnt play. I have tried implayer and arcmedia media players in the market and when I try to play the files it plays but with no sound and says I need to download coral player at real.coralplayer.com which apparently is a media player for a comp. Am I doing something wrong or does anyone have any advice on what media player to use. Or if anyone has any recommenda rt ions on apps that allow you to download movies and watch (preferably free). Thanks

Generally i dont encourage piracy so i will assume that you legally own these movies (read forum rules). Bottomline you cant watch this movie until you convert them into friendly format for the galaxy tab.
Follow this guide: http://www.thetechjournal.com/how-to/convert-and-watch-movies-on-samsung-galaxy-tabhow-to.xhtml
It should play just fine, no need off a other player, the stock one is as good and even better then the one's you find at market.
Just be shore that it not have DTS,DD audio, because Galaxy tab can't handle that audio.

Unless the Verizon one is crippled, those files should play just fine as the tab supports DivX, mp3, h264 and AAC among the other things. Could be an audio issue, but honestly i have trouble imagining an avi with an audio stream that's more than stereo. Then again, i've seen some of the weirdest stuff, like an h264 video inside an avi...

I used this workflow to convert some of the Blu-ray rips we have on our HTPC, as well as converting a few SD movies, worked perfectly for my tab. Movies play in stock apps.

From a quick Google, if you are being asked to download CoralPlayer, then the movies you are downloading are not actually usable, and you are being scammed.
What application allows us to download paid movies similar to iTunes? I have an iPad but prefer to use my Tab for watching flicks instead?
Thanks for the info. After further te st ting the only movies that seem to play for me.so far are mp4 movies. I have been using t torrent to dl movies. Anyone else have any other recommended apps through market.

Here are top 5 Android movie APPs for movie lovers. You can use some of these APP to download or watch movies on Galaxy tab conveniently: " Netflix (free, streaming: US only)", "IMDb Movies & TV (free)", "VLC Direct Pro ($2.86)", "Movie Collection (free, ad-less version for $2.99)" and "GetGlue (free)". In addition, you also can rip DVD TO GALAXY TAB, but you need to consider the issue of legality. Good Luck !
Mobo player is great.
It now has support for subtitles within MKV containers without having to extract them. subtitles are great for foreign movies or for the hearing impaired and anime.
It also supports selecting audio track from within the container file. ie, Eng, JP audio track selection. I see a bright future for this app.

Amazon Cloud Drive and videos

I am very please (like several other users) with the new Amazon cloud drive. I even purchased an album so I can get 20GB free for one year! So I uploaded some episodes of my favorite TV show (Futurama) in HD which worked flawlessly. I can watch them in the browser from my PC or select individual files to download them again. Now, when I try to check the box for the file on my Xoom (either in Dolphin HD or stock browser) nothing happens. Same when I click on the link that on my PC plays the video.
This for me defeats the main purpose, i.e. to centrally upload videos so I can watch them when on the road or on vacation, without using the precious space on my Xoom. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? The playback issue might be related to the plugin that the browser needs to play the file but what about the check box?
Thanks for your suggestions!
I don't see the offer for a 20 Gb upgrade w/album purchase. Is it automatic? And also, is it just for the first year?
TIA
for 1 year after you purchase any album from their website.
also its more like a 15gig upgrade since you go from 5-->20
its automatic although when you want to buy an album you should see some promo regarding it on the page

It was all automatic, yes. The good thing is that if you do not actively renew they won't charge you automatically at the end of the first year but cut you back to 5GB (as of now).
But does anyone have an answer to my question!!??
It appears to use something our browsers don't support. Which is odd, only thing I can guess is that it uses a quicktime plugin. That or they are acting like netflix and hulu and don't want us Android users watching Video.
I will say that while I like CloudPlayer, I hate it's Shuffle option. It's not random at all. If you close the app and go back in it starts from the begining even though shuffle is on, and then takes you through the same "Shuffle" of music. Only way I have found to truly shuffle is to pick the first song in your list and turn the shuffle on and off several times. then it resorts.
Amazon doesn't link their video library to the cloud player either. I've been able to play videos off of the browser app in the Xoom but would much rather have a dedicated app.

if amazon had a dedicated streaming video player i would so ditch netflix in a heartbeat
I don't have it in front of me at the moment but I believe it was Amazon Video Library running in Miren Browser. The videos were not the greatest quality, pretty much all I have on Amazon is NickJr stuff for my daughter.
Just wanted top follow up on this. I'm having no problem at all with amazon video library stuff, Nick Jr., in Dolphin, although I do get a warning. Wasn't as lucky trying to play Prime videos, froze up right away.

You can easily convert any YouTube Video to YouTube to mp3 format with the help of online converters. But, how to do it without any third-party software? As you know, all the third-party software developers are trying to make money from their software. They want you to install their software and use it for a long time. They don’t want you to easily convert your YouTube Video to mp3 format. So, to save your time and money here is a trick that will help you convert any YouTube Video to mp3 format without installing any third-party software. There are several websites that help you to convert YouTube videos to mp3 format without any third-party software. All you have to do is follow some easy steps.
I would suggest By Click Downloader - it's one of the best converters, in my opinion. Also, I recommend checking this article about the best youtube to mp3 converters for additional options to compare.
Hi there! If you're looking for an Android app to convert YouTube into MP3s, I'd like to suggest checking out a website called CrazyConverter.com.

The website will handle the conversion process for you and provide you with a downloadable MP3 file. It's a convenient option for converting your favorite YouTube into MP3s. Give it a try and see if it meets your requirements. Happy converting!

It's true that Chrome's built-in player only plays mp4 video files.
What you should do for other file types is install VLC, along with the VLC browser plugins. The VLC plugin for Mozilla/Chrome will play most video file types, but there are some issues:
1. You may have to disable other conflicting plugins like Quicktime, because it's darn near impossible to tell Chrome which plugin has priority to play a particular MIME type or file type. Type about: plugins into the Chrome address bar to access the plugins list.
2. Chrome insists on downloading avi files instead of playing them, so you have to trick it: rename the avi file as mpeg and let the VLC plugin automatically determine the correct file type from the header. You can rename it back to avi after you play it in Chrome.
3. There doesn't seem to be any way to select the correct audio track in files with multiple audio tracks, and it always seems to default to the wrong one in mkv files.

I do not see how to use the VLC Plugin for Chrome. I unisntalled VLC and installed 2.1.0 and then after I did that I see no option for VLC Plugins in Chrome or a way to export videos from VLC to Chrome. Can you please explain how this plugin works with regards to using it with chromecast?
When you install VLC, you have the option to also install the browser plugins. Chrome shares the Mozilla plugin. After installation, you will find the VLC plugin in the list of Chrome plugins (enter About: plugins on the address bar). It's enabled by default, and you can expand the details to see what MIME types it supports. However you may see other plugins in the list which are also enabled and also support the same MIME types (e.g., Quicktime), and there's no way to control which one has precedence other than to disable one of them.
